i know it's colbert's schtik, but it would have been kind of nice to hear james actually speak.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:14 AM

It was a good interview, especially when my girl was giving my a VDay beej at the same time. Any one else get some last night? (and this morning for that matter...)

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:14 AM

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:20 AM

Never change, James & co. Welove you just the way you are.

9:22 - Stop trying to project your shortcomings with women (or men) on others, and stop being so bitter about it.

I never thought I'd ever see a Talking Heads of our generation, but LCD has proved to me in the past week they truly are that special.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:30 AM

OK. One more post about this horribly overrated and trite band (which will be totally forgotten and leave no impact whatsoever within no more than five years after he finally does retire, thank the lord) and I'm going to leave and find some other blog that has every imaginable detail on every single band and every single show that takes place, or is even just contemplated to do so, in this city. Harumpf!

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:30 AM

they're called "periods" 9:30, try using them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:32 AM

Sounds like you're having one yourself, 9:32.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:35 AM

talking heads of our generation? wow. teh stupid, it hurts.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:40 AM

he falls way short in comparison to david byrne. shut your mouth 9:30

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:42 AM

Funny you bring up Talking Heads and LCD. This post said the same thing: http://thenewgay.net/2010/11/new-gay-icons-%E2%80%94%C2%A0lcd-soundsystems-nancy-whang.html

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:43 AM

"teh stupid, it hurts."

oh the irony

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:45 AM

I didnt know this guy had a career in the first place, let alone one you can retire from.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:47 AM

i wuv bunnies

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:49 AM

What a Dick Wad 9:30 is! I hate him!

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:52 AM

Yeah 9:47, because people who don't have careers can sell albums that debut in the Billboard Top 200, sell out MSG (scalpers or not, they still did), have been billed at the top of nearly ever major music festival in the world and are constantly critically acclaimed.

I'm pretty sure 95% of the dispariging comments written about LCD are from musician wannabes who probably couldn't get a gig at the Cake Shop even if they were bottoming for the owner and the other 5% are guys like 9:14pm but with the last part of his comment being a total lie.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:53 AM

Where are the Talking Heads comparisons coming from? I don't hear it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:53 AM

it's not so much a musical comparison as much as it is a dance band from NYC that actually writes good music with a large crossover audience. i think that's about it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:55 AM

Do a Google search of "LCD Soundsystem Talking Heads" and you'll see where others have compared the two, from Stereogum to Scaruffi to the AV Club to Pitchfork to the Telegraph UK.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:57 AM

People still thinking that scalpers bought most of MSG obviously don't know about the music business.

Promoters, venue, and friends of the band are the ones to blame.

aka Bowery Presents, MSG entertainment, DFA and etc

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 9:58 AM

yeah, friggin' DFA people wanting to see their flagship band's final show. how dare they...

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:00 AM

Or, simply listen to the song "Us vs. Them" off Sound of SIlver. Especially the second half of the song.

Posted by Scott | February 15, 2011 10:02 AM

There is revolution going on in the Middle East and all you people care about is some LSD Drugsystem? WHERE'S THE HUMANITY?

Posted by Handy Pampers | February 15, 2011 10:10 AM

What does the Middle East have to do with me?

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:10 AM

I wish Colbert would have just let him speak. I feel like James never got to complete a thought.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:12 AM

I just heard LCD is playing Madison Square Garden! Does anyone know if tickets are still available at Ticketmaster outlets?

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:22 AM

nice! nick and alex from holy ghost are playing on stage with lcd on that colbert video!

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:26 AM

talking heads was one of the great bands in history. lcd soundsystem is at best a fun contemporary band. if you think people will be talking of lcd soundsystem in 30 years the way talking heads are revered today, you are clearly lacking any historical perspective.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:31 AM

This ain't no disco!

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:32 AM

I brought a pal to the webster hall show who had no idea of LCD, I just knew he'd love it. He did love them but at one point he turned to me while dancing and said, "this shit is like the talking heads".

I don't want to get into the silly argument but I thought I'd throw that it there since I never thought of the comparison until he said that.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:37 AM

I wish Colbert's final question had been: "Where are the other 8,000 tickets?"

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:39 AM

"at one point he turned to me while dancing and said, "this shit is like the talking heads"

god just picturing this moment gave me major douche chills. and i love LCD

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:46 AM

Actually, I think people leave disparaging comments because the lyrics are awful and the music is so derivative. I already own David Bowie's "Heroes", so why would I go buy his disco version of that? He even uses the same e-bow line. Lame. A lot of terrible music by terrible artists appear in the Billboard Top 200 and sell out MSG (like Arcade Fire), so that's a pretty weak argument, 9:53am. LCD made, what, three, four full length records? This is ridiculous. FINAL SHOW! Great. GO AWAY.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:47 AM

It's still a bigger career than you'll ever have, 10:47.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:54 AM

@10:47

Get back at me when BrooklynVegan comment boards are blowing up with 100+ posts about stuff going on with your life, and then I'll take you seriously.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 10:56 AM

if the number of comments on a bv message board determines your value as a human being, or of your band, then you are seriously in need of re-evaluation. some of the best bands around barely get five comments on here. good taste among brooklyn hipsters is sorely lacking. which is a good thing. most of the good shows in this city are not attended by morons in stupid outfits. bv does cover the good shows, and you get the idea that the people associated with this blog get it, and i give them credit for the breadth of their coverage.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 11:21 AM

10:47 and 11:21 speak the truth

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 11:27 AM

yeah 11:21 go get em!!!

I've been to plenty of amazing shows this year that didn't even have a humus bar.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 11:32 AM

oh sorry 11:21, we wouldn't want to un-obscure your obscure bands with coverage and comments about them. if that happened, what would be next -- an ALBUM OF THE YEAR GRAMMY?!

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 11:34 AM

if the amount of comments on bv constitutes greatness then all time top 5 list is

1. Hummus
2. Daft Punk
3. MEH inc.
4. Hipster hot boxing
5. Pabst Blue Ribbon

Those are your idols not James Murphy.

Tickets to this Colbert taping for sold for $4,999.99

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 11:45 AM

"I wish Colbert would have just let him speak. I feel like James never got to complete a thought."

Which is why I could only watch the first three episodes of this show before stopping. Grew tired of Colbert's lame annoying schtick very quickly.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 11:51 AM

the song they played spoke for itself.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 12:43 PM

Who?

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 12:54 PM

"Grew tired of Colbert's lame annoying schtick"? Guess you don't understand political satire... Some people will never get it...

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 1:02 PM

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM TICKETS ARE BACK ON SALE THROUGH TICKETMASTER, HOLY SHIT! GET AT THEM! SECTION 300s THOUGH...

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 1:09 PM

"Guess you don't understand political satire... Some people will never get it... "

Boy, where have I heard this type of response before?

Of course I "get it". It's just that it's lame and annoying. I simply don't like it. Can you not handle that?

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 1:21 PM

1:09 you filthy liar

You are a real dick

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 1:23 PM

tickets aren't any more on sale than james murphy enjoying a massive bowl of hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 1:40 PM

hahahaha @ 1:09...i pulled the same shit/comment the other day...

but i still had to check ticketmaster now, just to be sure!

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 1:41 PM

April 1 tickets go on sale 3/18

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 1:57 PM

How about not listening to ANYBODY who comments here and Google for yourselves to find out about tickets.

But at least we know who has such a void in their lives that they post nonsense to amuse themselves. Dudes, you'd have time better spent jacking off or something.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 2:09 PM

i jack off while reading these comments. two birds with one stone, no void in my life at all, thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 5:06 PM

As funny as Colbert can be especially in the past with Strangers with Candy, his show can be a bit too much ego and him cutting people off when it should be a bit more controlled as I hope hes still mocking O'Reilly.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 5:18 PM

lame. what in insult to musicians everywhere. so the old guy down the pub should have hung up his fiddle years ago because it is embarrassing?

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 5:31 PM

talking heads = good/great/classic

lcd soundsystem = who even cares

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 6:24 PM

5:06: Yet you responded to what I said. Maybe it hit a little close to home?

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2011 6:58 PM
