have scalpers gotten all the tickets yet?

Mumford & Sons to open?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:46 PM

Who??

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:46 PM

Is it safe to assume Fri ATP show will be same length as Mon ATP and the rest of the Wordless shows?

Like Mangum and all, but I only need to commit to one I think and I'm pretty locked in for ATP Fri night.

Posted by BLG | February 16, 2011 1:47 PM

Who cares about this guy? Posts on him are getting as stale as all the LCD posts.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:47 PM

No joke he should do like 15 dates at town hall at least. If not it's going to be impossible to get tickets. And that's a conservative estimate. He could easily sell out 30-40 nights there. This is going to be a disaster with the scalpers etc.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:48 PM

sweet! Hopefully I can get tix so I can scalp them for crazy $$$$!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:49 PM

he could probably sell out ten straight nights at msg.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:50 PM

Town Hall capacity - 1,495

15 shows sold out would be 22,425 people
30 shows sold out would be 44,850 people
40 shows sold out would be 59,800 people

Just in....Mangum will also be playing the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ the weekend after.

Seriously, are you guys fucking stupid?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:51 PM

Cool, now Portishead needs to play a NYC show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:51 PM

i've been around a long time and i'm familiar with a wide-array of music crossing many genres.

NEVER heard of this guy and neutral milk hotel.

i downloaded and listened to a few tracks from 'aeroplane' but i guess i don't get it.

sounds like a syd barrett-like story. i guess every generation needs one.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:53 PM

why do you guys care so much about a guy that came out with a decent album 13 years ago?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:56 PM

why do you care so much to tell us that we shouldn't care ?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:59 PM

Jersey City Loews! It's about time they started to have gigs there again! Todd from Maxwell's runs gigs there. Would be nice to see a warm-up in Hoboken!

"i've been around a long time and i'm familiar with a wide-array of music crossing many genres."

whenever people start their comments with a lone like this you know just know pearls of wisdom will follow..

you sound like every dumb reviewer on amazon & Itunes.. get over yourself..

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:01 PM

jeff gonna get paid bitches!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:04 PM

If LCD can sell out MSG instantly mangum could easily sell 40k+ tix at small venues in NYC. Many people would go multiple nights. Anyone under 30 probably has never seen him and there are definitely tens of thousands of people in that age group alone in the mid-Atlantic who are obsessed with aeroplane.

1:53 is an old man who hates Barrett-era Floyd.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:06 PM

@1:46

uh...

lots of people.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:06 PM

I would buy tickets to this show just to scalp them to the pussies that cry at his shows.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:07 PM

OMG OMG OMG

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:08 PM

going to the oct. 29 show from Texas for sure. it's worth it. any word on if these are the final tour dates or are there more to be announced?

Posted by anon | February 16, 2011 2:10 PM

I'm going to guess the Cambridge show will be at Harvard's Sanders Theatre where Joanna Newsom played last year.

There's also a chance it could be the Somerville Theatre or Brattle Theatre, but both of their capacities is below 1500.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:13 PM

I want to get tickets to this, but can we all promise we won't sing along at the top of our lungs or cry? Thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:14 PM

I'm coming out of the closet today to my friends (fam already knows.) Anyone have any tips? I think they will be cool with it but it's a big step for me especially since I've had two serious girlfriends.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:19 PM

חומוס

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:20 PM

The Cambridge date has gotta be Sanders Theatre. It's part of the same theatre collective as Jordan Hall.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:25 PM

I have a hunch he'll add another NYC date or two

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:25 PM

1:53 is an old man who hates Barrett-era Floyd.

i'm 1:53 and, ironically, i worship at the altar of barrett and think everything floyd did after he left was shit. and their 2 most popular post-barrett releases (dark side of the moon and wish you were here) were all about him. barret WAS pink floyd and they just (not so neutrally) milked him for their own shallow success.

and anon 2:01? i was just being honest. you are the one who needs to "get over yourself."

i should've also made clear that this magnum guy couldn't hold a candle to syd.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:25 PM

BV is the best, tells me what tickets I should buy to scalp....Thanks BV!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:25 PM

حمّص

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:30 PM

who thehell is this guy?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:33 PM

1:53 (2:25), I am new to this thread and while I respect your love for Barrett, I think your opinion is rubbish! While I too love early-Floyd, calling albums like Meddle and Animals "sh!t" is 100% absurd...that is not my opinion, that is FACT!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:33 PM

i should've also made clear that this magnum guy couldn't hold a candle to syd

you said it all by spelling his name wrong.. I dont Jeff thinks for a second he is better or compares himself to Syd Barret.. thats your trip..
but this whole "I've been around , etc" is just proclaiming too much and it always backfires.. because theres always something anyone can miss out on.. myself included...

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:36 PM

Skip Spence > Syd Barrett

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:39 PM

Skip Spence > Syd Barrett

Moron > you

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:39 PM

WTF this week has been like one big nonstop ejaculate in my pants between the LCD tickets, Arcade Fire winning the Grammy, Radiohead's new album and now THIS! I've been walking around with a musical hardon popping 8" out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:41 PM

hard on is releasing an 8"?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:42 PM

These comparisons are stupid. Mangum simply has been away from the music world for a long time, he is not schizophrenic like Barrett, Spence or Erickson.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:45 PM

Totally off topic but the last time I saw Neutral Milk Hotel, there was this amazingly annoying couple who were not only talking during the whole show but were talking about TMI info. The guy kept asking her "Do you like my seven and a half inches? Do you like my seven and a half inches? Is it the biggest you've ever had?" Yeah bro you're cool

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:46 PM

i was just gonna say, barrett is spelled with 2 t's, but i guess i spelled mangum wrong. sorry.

no disrespect, just complete unfamiliarity. and when i'm unfamiliar w/an artist who sounds interesting, i usually seek them out. like i said, what i heard just didn't do it for me.

but it's happened before. i became quite interested in jandek, but after seeing him in nyc several years ago, i was not impressed.

understand, though, that being around and managing to remain relevant count for something, it's not something that backfires. that only happens when one lives in the past.

i can still love barrett-era floyd (as well as his solo stuff) AND dig the thermals, panda bear and best coast.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:47 PM

Is it just me or is the above post starting to be funny. The first time, not so much. But as it appears post after post, it's starting to wear me down.

Posted by Dan | February 16, 2011 2:50 PM

and anon 2:33 - it's ALL opinion.

after listening to 15 minute-long floyd songs (i.e. - like on 'animals'), i finally woke up from the coma they induced.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:50 PM

this thread is now closed.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:50 PM

Is it?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:56 PM

yes.

STUPID F--KING NITWIT!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:57 PM

there are a lot of noobs coming out of the woodwork this week, i've noticed. syd barett? really?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:57 PM

if you're gonna invoke his name as sarcasm, anon 2:57, at least SPELL HIS FUCKING NAME CORRECTLY. it's BARRETT.

not sure what a 'noob' is, but they're an evolution cycle above most of the ignoramuses on this thread

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 3:05 PM

This guy is milking it like Pavement....

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 3:19 PM

anyone else thinking he's going to lose it and cancel all these shows?

I hope not. Definitely want to make it to Loew's Theatre.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 3:36 PM

Hummus > all other food sources.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 3:47 PM

I've been around a long time and listen to lots of wide arrays of varying genres of music. no chance this show is going to be more better than the Keith Urban Carrie Underwood show at MSG in 2008.

skip spence > most music. amen. dude is eating hummus off a 45 in heaven

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 4:23 PM

I don't regret getting tickets to the Monday Asbury Park show, I would have no chance at getting loge seats at the Town Hall show (though they do have a ridiculously fabulous loge).

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 5:00 PM

Barrett-era Floyd was the biggest I've ever had

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 7:58 PM

A lot of this shit just seems immature... can we post our ages alongside our comments to help justify this nonsense.

I'm 22. Usually like to keep my musical commentary positive and relevant, but find some of these posts funny as hell... especially the recurring "annoying couple" joke. I imagine a lot of this bullshit has to be coming from 16-18 yr olds? right?... idk, I can't imagine any adults would want to indulge in such irreverent bullshitting about something that we're all here to discuss-- music...right??

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 8:31 PM

Owl City > Mangum

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 10:05 PM

hummus?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 11:36 PM

he should get the full band back together. not that i'm complaining. it would be sweet though to have some full band NMH shows. the drumming on that record is amazing also.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 11:52 PM

I'm as old as dirt
syd awesome
PF-after syd still awesome-7/4/77 MSG
Roky-awesome
NMH-brilliant
Jeff Mangum back playing live not to be missed.

Jeff Man goo

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 11:14 AM

I agree with 11:52, but I think he's just warming up to see whether he's ready or not to come back to the music world (and not just guest drumming on an OTC album)

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 2:38 PM

It is not a disaster because of the scalpers. It is the "fans."

If the poseurs would simply stay home, instead of buying from scalpers and scalping agencies, then the scalpers would have nobody to sell to.

Easy - if you do not get a ticket through Ticketmaster or Ticketweb, then DO NOT CONSIDER GOING TO THE SHOW. Really, you can do this.

None of these bands will miss you if you are not in attendence. Stay at home, read a book. Listen to a CD.

Poseurs are a scalpers best friend.

HA HA hope you scalping morons get left holding the bag on the town hall show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2011 2:20 PM

Really? Owl city? Yucky. All his songs sound the same and his lyrics don't mean shit.
Awful stuff.

Huge Mangum fan. Excited to go.

Posted by Anonymous | April 17, 2011 12:46 PM

I just found out about these shows and I can't believe the tickets already went on sale. Not surprised they sold out so quickly. They're going for $700 apiece on various sites now. This is easily the best tour I will ever miss out on.
