After a presale that sold out instantly (people waiting on line for hours in the freezing cold outside Mercury Lounge included), LCD Soundsystem just sold out their final show at Madison Square Garden in an instant (give or take a few seconds of processing time). Promoter Bowery Presents' website also crashed, presumably from all the people trying to figure out what to do, when tickets went on sale at 11am (see screenshot above). Congrats James.

now Bowery is going to announce the other LCD shows that happen BEFORE the last show

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:25 AM

Poor Bao!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:25 AM

no way did that sell out, something creepier is goin down

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:25 AM

you dummies

it didn't sell out in 15 seconds

There were no tickets.

Posted by sarah | February 11, 2011 11:26 AM

this didn't sell out, you dopes. basically no one got tix (except for the presale). scalpers got them all. search twitter. total scam.

Posted by gerrold | February 11, 2011 11:26 AM

I ruined the world.

Posted by The Internet | February 11, 2011 11:26 AM

seriously, did anyone else have trouble even getting the on sale page to refresh or show up initially until 11:03 or later? scalpers and their programs to hold and hoard tix..

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:26 AM

Murphy looks very bummy in that pic.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:26 AM

He looks like Bill Der Beaver from Zoobiliee Zoo

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:27 AM

Hopefully no one is going to buy from StubHub. They seem to have most of the tickets and I don't think that demand is really anywhere near as high as they think.

Posted by Brian | February 11, 2011 11:27 AM

Have you confirmed this or are you assuming based on the fact that the screen came up like that?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:27 AM

@11:26 i didnt even have an onsale option till 11:05 what the fuck is that?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:28 AM

Bieber tickets didn't even sell out that fast...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:28 AM

I was on at exactly 11, looking for 1 ticket, any section, any price and was repeatedly told that there was no tickets available. After wasting a half hour on this I gave up. So did anyone actually get a ticket today or are they all gonna end up on stubhub? FUCK YOU TICKETMASTER!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:28 AM

james murphy you're a beast

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:29 AM

I wonder what the DFA camp has to say about all this...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:30 AM

If James and Co. is so worried about people scalping, then maybe they should do more than 1 show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:30 AM

I WAS ON AT 11 AM
DROPDOWN MENUS
POPPED UP.

WITHIN THAT MINUTE
I REQUESTED 1 TICKET
AND GOT WAS PROCESSED
THROUGH THE reCAPTCHA
PORTION

15,000 TICKETS SOLD OUT
IN LESS THAN ONE MINUTE?

NO, NO TICKETS WERE RELEASED.

THIS SOME BULLLLLLLSHIT

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:30 AM

JUST DONT BUY FROM SCALPERS NOW. i've made the mistake of doing that with arcade fire (neon bible tour) and radiohead (2006 theatre tour).. if you wait till the week of you will be able to get a ticket for around face (i got arcade fire tix this summer for below face week of).

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:30 AM

There's absolutely no way this thing sold out in an instant.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:31 AM

hahahaha for people saying bulk of tickets will be available today....looks like someone was snoozing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:31 AM

SCALPER BOTS FTW. JAMES MURPHY DO IT FOR THE FANS. ADD 2 SHOWS

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:32 AM

@11:28 yeah, WTF. not sure what's up. i've never seen anything like this, i didn't get an on sale option til 11:03 and then not once did i even get "in" on any tix, not even crappy seats. maybe they didn't release tix and the band is looking into ways of getting them to real people (fingers crossed that this is true). hopeful and doubtful

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:32 AM

I WAS THERE

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:32 AM

To all the bitter haters who said this would not sell out: You were WRONG!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:32 AM

Go on stubhub and all the tickets are in bulk. One person is selling 50 GA tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:32 AM

Google twitter feed says they're all on StubHub. This is the biggest final show failure ever.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:33 AM

i'd sworn-off bitching about ticketmaster because it's a losing battle, but THIS? This was som bullshit

and 11:24--obviously quite a lot of people

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:33 AM

Bullcrap.

Look for another show to be added.

Look for 15 more years of "last shows" from LCD.

Mark my words.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:33 AM

What are the odds of tix for a 4/1 show being quitely released (like Cut Copy a couple weeks ago)??

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:34 AM

There's 900 tickets available on Stubhub. There's never that many available right away on there.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:35 AM

it's not bitter hate, it's desperate hope.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:35 AM

This post gets almost everything wrong.

1. Pre-sale did NOT sell out instantly - tickets were still coming up 15-20 minutes after onsale time.
2. This did not sell out at 11 - the page didn't even show dropdown menus until 11:05.
3. It seems as if nobody got tickets.

Honestly are we supposed to believe that the actual onsale sold out 100x quicker than the presale? C'mon, BV, the story here isn't how quickly this sold out. The story is that something really screwy is going on.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:36 AM

lol at this selling out instantly

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:36 AM

why'd they bother with the charade? way to take something people were psyched about and turn into corporate shit.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:37 AM

If this is the way LCD will go out, consider his legacy tarnished.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:37 AM

lol there are GA pit tix for 40,000 on stubhub. they should really add another show right now to fuck over the scalpers. msg and ticketmaster definitely collude with the scalpers so that probably wont happen.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:37 AM

MSG is not booked April 1 or April 6.

If there is no 2nd show added, Murphy is a fool.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:37 AM

Just talked to someone at ticketmaster and they said that the show is in fact sold out. Although they were receiving multiply calls that people couldn't get into their system until 11:05 or later. Also I was in on the automated phone system on time and it crashed and sent me to another rep who by then just said it was sold out. Then I talked to a supervisor who pretty much said "well what do you want me to do about it?" But stubhub and ticketsnow have tickets

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:38 AM

"To all the bitter haters who said this would not sell out: You were WRONG!"

No you are WRONG dummy. This was not a legit selling out . When the promoters give in bulk to scalpers pre sale. And when the scalpers grab the last remaining ones with their programs that is not a legit selling out

So shut the fuck up you know nothing idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:38 AM

no dropdowns for me on phone til 1104
or on mac til 1107

but sold out on both when it did finally decide to pop up

shady shit

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:39 AM

I got a ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:39 AM

@11:36 drops downs were up at 11, at least for me. But no, no tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:39 AM

people who say that this problem will be solved by LCD doing more than 1 show are dummies.

MSG holds 20,000. The problem isn't that theres more than 20,000 fans trying to go. The problem is that bots/scalpers get all of the tickets. How is adding a second show a good solution? The same thing will happen. Just stop supporting the scalpers and the prices will go down.

Posted by sarah | February 11, 2011 11:39 AM

Think about how many people would be pissed if another show is added after April 2nd. That would be hilarious.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:41 AM

Jim Murphy is in bed with Jim Dolan right now, laughing

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:41 AM

"MSG is not booked April 1 or April 6.

If there is no 2nd show added, Murphy is a fool."

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:37 AM

It's their FINAL show. you're a fool.

Posted by sarah | February 11, 2011 11:41 AM

SO ONLY
GOLDCARD
TRUSTFUNDBABYFUCKS
GOT TICKETS?

I DON'T EVEN HAVE A CREDIT CARD
BITCH

I AM TOO YOUNG TO MAKE THAT MISTAKE

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:41 AM

This is why Thom Yorke > James Murphy...Thom would never let this happen.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:42 AM

Michael Moore isn't doing any more shows?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:42 AM

so the scalpers got all the tix and lcd is gonna play to an empty msg unless people are dumb enough to buy the scalped tix.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:42 AM

Fuck the last show. I say LCD just call it quits instead. This shit sucks

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:42 AM

this is soo fucked up i cant even deal with the disapointment

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:42 AM

This problem will be solved by LCD doing more than 1 show. And I'm no dummy.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:42 AM

Why is BV approving of my comments?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:43 AM

Yeah people once again. STOP BITCHING AND MOANING AND RELAX. Don't pay these scalpers now. If you do then they, Bowery Presents evil whores and even Murphy and co for allowing this to happen WIN.

Just breathe and wait till the week of the show. Scalpers will have bucketloads of tickets and start freaking. Prices go down. You will get in for face or less than face.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:43 AM

Has anyone really not seen them play before? The easiest band to see play every year.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:44 AM

I got a drop down at 11 on the dot, but still no tix

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:44 AM

who cares? i've seen this band like 10 times at far better venues.

they are good but not amazing
please

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:44 AM

I personally don't want a 2nd show added. What point would it serve since this one here was supposed to be the "last" show? I'm already pissed how this one played out, so I wouldn't want to support all this b.s. any further.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:45 AM

guys, despite what you've been lead to believe, it doesn't matter. this is not our generation's Stop Making Sense. that would require groundbreaking, timeless music.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:45 AM

oddly, there's nothing in the wheelchair sections either. i really think there was a ginormous screwup here.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:45 AM

THIS WAS SCALPERBOTTED! JAMES MURPHY PLEASE JUST PLAY A BEAUTIFUL OUTDOOR SHOW IN THE SUMMER THAT 90,000 of my closest friends can attend so we can all have a place to stand. Why not use Governors Island? This sale was a hack under the table job through and through. Between the presales being run off by Pitchfork and bribe headmaster and this mess, LCD is alienating major fans to get their hype.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:45 AM

Read LCD's Twitter. Obviously something shady went down if literally no fans got tix it seems.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:45 AM

btw, does anyone really believe this is LCD's "last show ever"?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:45 AM

scalpers would be stupid to buy more tix if they add another show.

seriously don't scalp to this. just sets a precedent for scalpers to fuck everyone over in future shows. lcd are a very good band but they're not fucking radiohead and they will reunite in a couple years. the money is too good to turn down and it's not like some acrimonious split. they played mid size clubs on the sounds of silver tour even when they were 'indie big.' if you haven't seen them by now i doubt you're a big enough fan to drop exorbitant money to see them at this show from far away. is it really worth it to drop so much $$ in this shitty economy to see them play dance music in an arena?

i'll get my tix for face value week of on craigslist or i'll stay home thank you.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:46 AM

Someone on the LCD forum said only 1,100 tickets were availble for sale online today.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:47 AM

hey BK Vegan, not sure what this post is about, but James Murphy himself on twitter is freaking out because he can't find anyone there who got tickets. soooo....not so much a congratulations as a clustefuck.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:47 AM

last LCD show will be attended by a bunch of clueless bankers who can afford stub hub

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:47 AM

"This is why Thom Yorke > James Murphy...Thom would never let this happen."

Seconded. For sure.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:48 AM

last show will be attended by 500 fans on the floor and 15,000 cardboard cutouts of daft punk

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:49 AM

i'm sure a lot of these people, including myself, have seen lcd before. i want to go to the last lcd party, it's okay if you don't.

i stood in the cold, i got no luck with today's sale either and that's okay. like some others have said, just relax and ticket prices will magically be stabilized and appear all over the next. it's more than a month away.

"This is why Thom Yorke > James Murphy...Thom would never let this happen."

^ you're right--like i said before, they should have just released the floor tickets through the dfa or lcd websites at really random times throughout the night.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:50 AM

FUCK MSG! Let's have an outdoor rager that we can ALL ATTEND! Where did they have All Points West, Liberty Park or whatever, do it there. DO IT FOR EVERYONE JAMES! FOR YOU! FOR US! So we can be together..

Posted by Justin | February 11, 2011 11:50 AM

At EXACTLY 11:00 am I logged onto ticketmaster but at that exact moment when I was about to click "approve" I noticed a small tub of hummus sitting nearby... So I took an extra 6 seconds to dip a single baby carrot and when I returned to the computer it seemed it was sold out, and although I was disappointed, there was a party going on in my mouth.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:50 AM

LCDSS are not very smart. They should have sold MSG tickets first, then announce 3 weeks later that it would be their last. Not the other way around.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:51 AM

james should go with his significant other to a festive dinner at five leaves to celebrate selling out msg.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:51 AM

if they were serious they would do a guestlist, no physcial tickets. i dont care if its msg, fuck the scalpers

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:51 AM

scalper bots in st. petersburg russia

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:51 AM

if scampers are using bots to game ticketmaster, why can't we the fans do the same? who wants to start an open source ticketmaster bot system that does the same thing as the scalpers?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:52 AM

Can someone tweet the outdoor show idea to James Murphy, I'm at stupid work and I'm too mad to personally address him!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:52 AM

An ugly, ugly way to go out.

Posted by J | February 11, 2011 11:52 AM

THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE PAPERLESS TICKETS FOR PIT at the very least

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:52 AM

it was a big mistake having this show at MSG in the first place. when you get involved with venues like that, this shit is bound to happen. should've been 5 nights at terminal 5 or similar.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:53 AM

Ticketmaster website did not even permit me to select anthing for 3 minutes. Seems like the site was intentionally rigged. Something was definately not right.

Posted by Beto | February 11, 2011 11:55 AM

Didn't this happen in New Jersey for a Bruce Springsteen concert (all tickets going straight to stubhub) and the government got involved?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:55 AM

i too have seen them before, and while i admit theyre not the greatest band ever or anything like that, i still wanted to go to the last show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:56 AM

i doubt it's his decision to add a second show. and he can't play elsewhere without getting sued. also can't pull this show. he's fucked more than us.

Posted by jae | February 11, 2011 11:56 AM

calling it now - they are def going to do a "secret" show / special appearance at brooklyn bowl sometime before MSG.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:56 AM

Make this right James

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:56 AM

I wonder if Kim Kardashian will get on stage to dance.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:57 AM

cry me a fucking river.

everyone I know got tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:57 AM

same progression of events as above - no screen until 11:06. then after repeated retries using different combinations, trying both chrome & firefox, at about 11:16 i finally got a chance for 300-level seating. tossed them back b/c i had gotten a 200-level tks @ the presale. i was bummed at the time (wed), but i guess i did pretty well. of course they'll add another show. @ which time i'll drive myself crazy trying for loge/100-level. (don't like the floor)
good luck, y'all.

Posted by maxene mulford | February 11, 2011 11:57 AM

why not just do like 10 shows at terminal 5 or something? if they're really breaking up are they really so busy that they couldnt do an epic run to end it kind of like what NIN did?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:57 AM

11:50... Same thing happened to me!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:57 AM

Hopefully James does the right thing here

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:58 AM

Let MSG have the last LCD show, I'll gladly see James Murphy solo band playing the hits due to contractual obligations with MSG after the "final show".

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:58 AM

doubt it's his decision to add a second show. and he can't play elsewhere without getting sued. also can't pull this show. he's fucked more than us.

Posted by jae | February 11, 2011 11:56 AM

Not really, said this is his LAST show, he can play every night until then and not worry about getting sued.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:58 AM

@11:55

This exact thing happened for Springsteen, and the government did get involved, but if I remember correctly, some sort of high ranking government official found out when HE was squeezed out of tickets too. Sadly, I don't think Chuck Schumer or Marty Markowitz were planning on attending this soiree. We are shit out of luck.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:58 AM

lol meltdowns!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:58 AM

What a colossal trainwreck this turned out to be.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:58 AM

Letters to Schumer?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:59 AM

Thank God my buddy Michael Bloomberg got me a ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:00 PM

no i mean when you sign a contract to do a show there are stipulations you won't play another show a month nearby for a month or so before or after.

Posted by jae | February 11, 2011 12:01 PM

I don't really know any reason why they couldn't add a show just because he had said this would be their last ever. You think they're not allowed to change their mind? Or to "get back together"? I do believe it was their intent to not play again, but I don't think there's any legal reason they couldn't add another if they wanted to.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:02 PM

not always the case

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:02 PM

I was able to get dropdowns at 11:00am on the dot on one browser, but not on another. Still didn't get tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:02 PM

WHERE IS CHUCK SCHUMER???!!/1??!??!!!/?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:03 PM

btw number of tix on stubhub is going down. i wonder if they're being bought or if sellers are pulling temporarily because of outrage?

Posted by jae | February 11, 2011 12:03 PM

I snagged 4 section 12 floor seats at 11.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:03 PM

"Let MSG have the last LCD show, I'll gladly see James Murphy solo band playing the hits due to contractual obligations with MSG after the "final show"."

this is a great idea. 'james murphy band'/'james murphy experience'/'james murphy massacre' should do a run of shows at a smaller venue and go out right.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:04 PM

I landed one at 11:05 on TM online. Sect 40. There were tickets.

Posted by PhillyPiper | February 11, 2011 12:04 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:04 PM

Fat boy's chuckling all the way to the bank.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:04 PM

jae, i think people are grabbing the *decently* (ie less than $100) priced tix on stubhub

Posted by lauren | February 11, 2011 12:05 PM

people on twitter are suggesting a free central park show. that would be epic.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:07 PM

^oh shit!! you must know all about booking and shit

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:08 PM

"people on twitter are suggesting a free central park show. that would be epic."

that would be a disaster and worse of a clusterfuck than this msg sale

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:08 PM

Free show in Central Park? Epic clusterfuck.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:09 PM

@PhillyPiper, clearly your full of shit because you put in a name. You're a fucking scalper trying to make it look like scalpers didn't buy all of the tickets, fuck you and every one who looks like you, you piece of shit.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:10 PM

@ 11:36 the drop down was up for me at 10:59

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:11 PM

radiohead stinks, ticketmaster stinks

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:13 PM

This is Murphy and his mgmt's fault. They created this demand, hyped the hell out of the show, made it their last with no other US dates, and under-priced the tickets considering the demand. They created scalper Christmas. They put every warm body and bot on it. Got to Mercury lounge at 5:30AM and out of the twenty people in front of me at least 10 were scalpers.

Posted by RS | February 11, 2011 12:14 PM

has anyone considered that only unhappy people who didn't get tickets go online to post comments?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:17 PM

The problem wasn't in the promotion or pricing, it's in the oversight. You have to be hands-on when you've created a big demand and decisively limited the supply by decreeing its finality. Trent Reznor seems like some sort of fan-friendly god, right now.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:19 PM

@PhillyPiper, clearly your full of shit because you put in a name. You're a fucking scalper trying to make it look like scalpers didn't buy all of the tickets, fuck you and every one who looks like you, you piece of shit.

thats my handle on a Phish board.. Sorry you didnt get tickets and you are upset about it phanner.

Posted by Phillypiper | February 11, 2011 12:19 PM

This band is terrible. Hopefully this will be the end of an era of crappy hipster music.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:21 PM

So glad I waited in line at 7:30am yesterday morning to get 2 GA tickets. And yes, I went to my office job afterwards. Hardcore Fan FTW.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:22 PM

Phish fan? You have just stuck with scalper, dude.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:23 PM

That would have been 2 days ago, 12:22. Unless you're reliving some sort of acid flashback.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:23 PM

I know they were scalpers because they parked their van in front of the venue with a bunch of other scalpers, put their stuff out in line, waited in their cars for an hour and screamed at anyone that showed up that the spots in front of them were taken. They were in their 40's and 50's, all knew each other, had people come visit them from the back of the line every ten minutes who were also clearly scalpers. They also talked about other shows they were going to wait on line for. They were white trash and when someone facetiously asked them what their favorite LCD Soundsystem record was they laughed in their face.

Posted by RS | February 11, 2011 12:24 PM

new show added for Friday, April 1. tickets on sale at 2:00pm.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:25 PM

To anyone who actually believes the person on stubhub actually has 50 pit tickets is fucking retarded. The ONLY way to purchase GA tix was to stand in line at Merc Lounge for hours, and even then the purchasing limit was TWO TICKETS.

And to anyone saying stubhub has all the tickets, you are also a moron. MSG holds 20,000 people. Now go on stub hub and tell me how many tickets are for sell. It's under 1,000.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:25 PM

just got tickets for Reggie Watts @ mhow. After all that time spent on ticketmaster this morning, actually getting tickets to a show i want to see feels so rewarding!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:25 PM

I was going to yield and buy 4 tix from some scalper on ebay at $811 for the 4 (sec 232 row A).

As I was checking out, I received a message that the price of the tickets was increased by the seller by $400. Then, before I could even react, the tix were sold.

I can't believe I got screwed by TM and a scalper in the same morning. At least, I was at the MHofW and T5 shows last year. I can wait for the reunion show in 5 years.

Posted by Dan | February 11, 2011 12:27 PM

12:25 - How do you enjoy the work environment at StubHub?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:28 PM

I was at Mercury at 5am and waited for five hours in the freezing to get these tickets.

@12:24 I know exactly who you are talking about. They were complete assholes. I thought they were homeless.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:29 PM

you got tickets to reggie watts because no one wants to see reggie watts.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:29 PM

Really, RS @ 12:24? That's all you've got? I don't know, sounds like that could go either way....

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:30 PM

Yeah, a couple days ago I posted a pic from the Voice of a few of them. It doesn't take a genius to see that the 65 year old guy in the Yankees hat isn't an LCD diehard.

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/LCD%20line%203.JPG

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:31 PM

LOL soldout yet no one got tickets lol

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:32 PM

I WASN'T THERE

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:32 PM

@12:25 where is this 2nd show info i call bullshit

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:32 PM

Wow!!!! Aziz was right!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:32 PM

I've seen them on every tour and there have been some great shows. Nothing life-changing though. For those of you thinking this is going to be some kind of momentous occasion you just can't miss out on, you're in for some disappointment. It's MSG after all. Might I add there are lots of other great options for April 2nd: Caribou is DJing Mister Saturday Night and BOAT is playing the Rock Shop. If you're dead set on seeing LCD, I hear that webcasts are pretty decent these days. You won't get to say you were there, but no one cares anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:32 PM

Over 400 tix on stubhub gone in less than an hour...wow..

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:32 PM

Seriously Anonymous? I don't know if you're just trolling or what. It was plain as day. Everyone I was standing with was ready to throttle them. They were like a band of f*cking gypsies.

Posted by RS | February 11, 2011 12:34 PM

this show has turned everyone into Greenberg

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:35 PM

If they add a second show, then the show they promoted and created this big deal over will no longer be the final show, which is kind of the point.

I say move it to July, have it in a huge outdoor space.

Posted by Pat | February 11, 2011 12:37 PM

12:25 - it appears MSG/Ticketmaster is now sending people to comment on here?

This was fraud.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:38 PM

I say we find whoever that old man scalper in that pic is and ruin his life, 4Chan style!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:38 PM

I plan on having a great time anyway but it's going to be a bummer seeing all of those empty seats at MSG and knowing how many fans are out there without tickets who would love to be inside getting down. I've seen this happen before for big MSG shows and you show and there are over a thousand empty seats at least.

Posted by RS | February 11, 2011 12:38 PM

"move it to July"

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:38 PM

"this is a great idea. 'james murphy band'/'james murphy experience'/'james murphy massacre' should do a run of shows at a smaller venue and go out right."

I AGREE WITH MY GREAT IDEA! LCD Experience! A Central Park show would be terrible and end by 9pm. I just want to dance with them all night, why the hell can't we do this somewhere?!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:38 PM

It's too late to add another show/move this one. Too many fans have paid scalpers hundreds/thousands of $ for their tickets and wouldn't get reimbursed, plus bought plane tickets, hotels, etc. To cancel/move/add another show would be to screw these people over.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:39 PM

Sarcasm, RS. May all scalpers (and there's no doubt those pustulant vermin were scalpers) die a slow and painful death by every STD known to man, and quickly. (That part was not sarcasm).

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:39 PM

If they add ANY show, especially after, JM & Crew will upset the fans (myself included) who waited outside in the pre-dawn freezing cold for this show. Some of his truest fans.

Something has to happen. James Murphy the politician will decide the LCD Soundsystem legacy.

Posted by goloxc | February 11, 2011 12:40 PM

If I see that old guy on the streets of NYC, he better take his false teeth out of his mouth because I will beat him to a pulp until he hands me over one of his LCD tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:40 PM

Scalpers are a symptom, not a cause. Call it street socialism.

Posted by tired, poor, huddled MEHsses | February 11, 2011 12:41 PM

Guys, I don't work for TM/StubHub. I'm not saying ppl didnt get scammed. I'm just saying if StubHub got all the tickets, there would be much more then the 600 something that are on there now.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:41 PM

POOP

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:42 PM

Why can't he add a show the night before on 4/1? Then he can (a) appease more fans and (b) not screw over anyone who bought tix on the assumption that the 4/2 show is the last?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:44 PM

I want to know why some people were able to get to the ticket-select screen at 11am sharp, and others couldn't get in until 11:05.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:44 PM

im telling u it wasnt the scalpers on this one most scalpers dont even know who lcd soundsystem are i called three brokers nobody ever heard of them im tellin you ticketmaster is holding back like 10000 seats no jokes

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:44 PM

@12:41 they dont have to put em up all at once you know

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:44 PM

Ahh my bad. I would have assumed sarcasm if you weren't anonymous but with all the scalper/ticketmaster trolls posting on all of the boards it was hard to parse it out.

Posted by RS | February 11, 2011 12:45 PM

phish fans are laughing at you all... welcome to our world. do not buy from scalpers.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:45 PM

You guys are hilarious. Yes, scalpers were part of the rush for tickets. As always. Yes, people who have tickets are going to sell them for as much of a markup as they can. As always. Yes, it sucks that the show sold out so fast that many devoted fans couldn't get tickets. As always.

I don't like the occasional bad effects of free markets any more than y'all do, but it's pretty weak to demand that someone fix your sad. Take it like champs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:46 PM

Ha. If he added a 2/1 show, poor cut copy will have zero attendance both nights.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:46 PM

12.41 is right. All the seats on sub hub are from the pre sale or the amex allocation. I don't think ticketmaster sold any of the regular seats yet. And the guy with 50 pit up there doesn't actually have the tickets...he's just hoping some fool will buy them then he can buy them from someone else cheaper

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:47 PM

Oops. *4/1. stuck in february.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:47 PM

@12:41 a bit insecure there....
liar

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:47 PM

actually scalpers are capitalists trying to break a socialist system

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:47 PM

Yeah, yall are right. I work for stubhub. They are paying me $10 per post. It's a great job.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:49 PM

Yeah, I don't know. There's just way too many people who couldn't get any tickets at all for a show in a 20,000 capacity venue, five minutes after they went on sale.

That just seems impossible. Something's up.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:50 PM

"If they add ANY show, especially after, JM & Crew will upset the fans (myself included) who waited outside in the pre-dawn freezing cold for this show. Some of his truest fans."

Hey jerkface, I waited in the freezing cold over night for a Nintendo Wii, do you hear me complaining that the games suck? Get over it and get a real job.

Yeah, something doesn't smell right. Probably my balls, but also something else.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:51 PM

Scalpers absolutely knew about this show. It is one of the most artificially hyped shows in recent memory. Most of the people that want to go to this show, myself included, are pretty casual fans. They didn't sell out T5 shows until right before. There is no way in hell they legitimately sold out MSG in 3 fucking seconds.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:52 PM

I don't get it - is this the same band that played NY (T5, etc) like 10 times last year. The same band that I bought a ticket day of show for $20?

Don't understand the frenzy here.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:53 PM

@ 12:39 "May all scalpers (and there's no doubt those pustulant vermin were scalpers)..."

Pustulant means "Causing the formation of puss filled pimples or blisters"

Are you trying to say these scalpers gave you pimples? Are you allergic to scalpers, and it causes you breakouts? I'm confused...

Posted by Scott | February 11, 2011 12:53 PM

From LCD's Twitter: "1 thought: if everyone breathes a sec, maybe it'll calm down, and shitbags will lower the $ on stubhub etc. i think hype is making it worse."

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:54 PM

If people want to stop whining about this one show they didn't get tickets to and actually do something about the LiveNation/Ticketmaster monopoly, they should look into pressuring friendly legislators to take a look at this under anti-trust statutes. Sen. Al Franken would be a good person to start with.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:54 PM

LOL @ James Murphy telling everyone to stop hyping his show so much.

OMG OMG HOLY SHIT I just tried a few timesfor the fuck of it, put in the AMEX platinum code and 2 GA Tickets miraculously showed up. NOT EVEN JOKING.
I don't even care about this show I just wanted to try and see what happened.

Christmas has come early!!! Now the question is do i see em on stubhub or craigslist?? Which one do you guys think will net me more cash?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:55 PM

Sounds like for some reason the only people getting tix are getting them through the AMEX code.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:56 PM

I hear they are adding temporary seats at the top of the garden for this event. Will pass on anything I can find.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:56 PM

I saw LCD Soundsystem basically for free at a huge festival and it was so dull I left after 3 songs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 12:56 PM

Maybe they'll do like the Super Bowl and charge people to watch it on a giant screen outside MSG.

18005253355

probably won't matter though if they check for an actual gold/plat amex

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:02 PM

I saw them in jersey. amazing show. such a great band. But he's right. all the hype is making it worse. if everyone just calmed the f u c k down and waited, and didn't pay outrageous amounts, prices will come down.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:03 PM

I've heard that they are in talks to move the show to New Meadowlands Stadium.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:05 PM

@1:03 its not that prices need to come down, its that someone should explain why some of us didnt get drop downs till 11:07, seems like thousands of tickets werent even put up for sale, and why ticketmaster was so fucking wonked to begin with

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:05 PM

Yeah, nothing like encouraging your fans to play the scalpers games and wait for them to decide to charge us less. Fuck this guy, seriously.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:06 PM

Fuck James Murphy and this over hyped shit show. I am gonna make some serious money off this bitch.

Ok you freaking out hipsters. I don't want to give stubhub/ebay any of my cash so here we go. Special just for you. I got 2 GA pit tickets to sell. This show won't be good but you idiots will be talking about it for years later to the other morons like it was some big deal. Anywhere else in at MSG will be horrible to see it. Just suck it up and spend that dough to be in the PIT. Email me at RichardHead69@yahoo.com(acct made just for this sale)and the highest offer gets em. Don't try and low ball. You know what these are worth. Happy Bidding!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:07 PM

James Murphy is mad as hell and telling fans not to buy scalped tickets now:

http://www.nme.com/news/lcd-soundsystem--2/54940

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:07 PM

@ 12:53. My bad. While scalpers who caused the formation of pustules would actually contribute more to society than the existing batch, perhaps "pustular" was what I meant.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:09 PM

New Meadowlands Festival? LCD? Arcade Fire? They can make this happen, they don't even need to pay people to come up with the idea, I just did because i'm brilliant. It can be like that time they had to move that festival that was gonnna be in Riverhead except this time no one will piss Beck off and it won't suck anymore than it already does.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:09 PM

New Murphy tweet shows he's really grasping at straws now. Scalpers aren't going to lower prices, man!:

1 thought: if everyone breathes a sec, maybe it'll calm down, and shitbags will lower the $ on stubhub etc. i think hype is making it worse. less than 5 seconds ago via web

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:10 PM

HAHA you guys are crazy look at stubhub there are about 30 whole sections that dont have seats in them that means ticketmaster didnt release a boatload of seats there will be plenty of seats available after they release thousands of seats later on stop bitchin and dont buy until week of show

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:12 PM

I know people are pissed and for good reason, and maybe Murphy didn't think this through, only charging $50 and then hyping the show. But I feel kinda bad for the guy. He's never played a venue this big, and from what is on his twitter feed, he seems incredibly pissed and is trying to do to his best to work things out.

I think he just wanted to play a huge venue and make prices affordable so lots of his fans could come.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:12 PM

aziz ansari's tweets are funny but it's kind of insulting to our intelligence that he acts like he has to pay for tickets to this show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:14 PM

@ 1:09

No worries, I enjoyed imagining you fleeing a pack of scalpers who were trying to rub up on you causing breakouts. You were shouting "NOooooo!!! The prom is tomorrow!!!!"

Aziz earned it, you are anonymous. You should feel like this now- http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lgfqntT3zT1qzmdtdo1_400.gif

Posted by Justin | February 11, 2011 1:16 PM

There are no more "I got tickets" posts here, than there are every time there is a secret show for some low level indie band. There is no way in hell all tickets were released.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:16 PM

@1:12 you idiot. They aren't going to open up those tickets. This isn't a f*cking concert-in-the-round.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:17 PM

If you look at the way the tickets are disbursed across the seatmap on StubHub, it looks like they set up MSG so that no one would be sitting behind the stage (they do this for bands they don't think will sell out - it was the same setup for Phoenix). Thing is, they can choose to release those tickets at any time, so really, the only way to get at them will be to endless click on the TM page until the turds there decide to release. Oh, and you'll be sure to pay full ticket surcharges for the "convenience".

Posted by grumpynewyorker | February 11, 2011 1:19 PM

I had no idea that the Love Chickpea Dip Soundsystem was this huge!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:20 PM

Oh, it's a basic fact that prices will come down. They always, always do. There are some people out there who are desperate, stupid, and (at least relatively) rich who will pay the top price because they HAVE to see the show (and they are desperate, stupid, etc.). So, the scalpers start with high prices and see if anyone bites. If/when people stop biting, they lower the prices a bit for the people who are slightly less desperate/stupid/rich. This continues. At the end, when they still have some tickets left, they will sell them for cost. But for now, if someone is willing to spend $200, $300, or $10,000, that's the price the scalpers will charge, until they can't.

Also, the assclown with the 50 tickets on stubhub was probably the shitheads in line at Mercury - all of those trolls in line got paid a few bucks to stand there, get their allotment, and turn the tickets over to their employer, who then put them up on stubhub.

Note: not in any way defending the scumbugs, just explaining how they work.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:20 PM

Aziz's tweets were actually painfully unfunny. But at least he masked them by saying they were supposed to be unfunny, I guess.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:20 PM

"pustular" is just a variant of "pustulant" dumb ass. You mean scalpers are a PESTILENCE. They are pests.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:21 PM

all our trials and tribulations

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:27 PM

why are we all just shitting on each other instead of empathizing?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:28 PM

"But he's right. all the hype is making it worse. if everyone just calmed the f u c k down and waited, and didn't pay outrageous amounts, prices will come down."

That's not really the issue. The issue is that this show shouldn't have sold out so quickly in the first place and there's definitely something fishy going on. We should be able to get these tickets from primary channels, not some fucking scalper

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:28 PM

A bonaroo anouncement would decimate the scaping market. Come on LCD...make that shit happen!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:29 PM

"Also, the assclown with the 50 tickets on stubhub was probably the shitheads in line at Mercury - all of those trolls in line got paid a few bucks to stand there, get their allotment, and turn the tickets over to their employer, who then put them up on stubhub."

Further, scalpers will price tix at unreasonably high levels, such as $10,000 with no intention of selling them at that price. It does, however, bring the average price of all tix for that event up. So some dumb fool comes along and sees tix are selling for an average of, say $250, and feels like he's getting a deal if he only pays $150. BUT the average price has been artificially inflated, so it's no deal at all.

Posted by Scott | February 11, 2011 1:31 PM

The hummus is so thick I had to pour lots of extra virgin olive oil all over that shit in order to get it scooped onto my pita triangle.

the fuck's wrong with this world?

If LCD Soundsystem is dance music, why is James Murphy so fat?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:40 PM

it will be interesting to see how this all develops. this shit was rigged for sure, but just how much "justice" gets served remains to be seen. i am not expecting much on that front. waiting patiently will probably benefit some folks, but i personally am not willing to take that risk.

in the interest of full disclosure, as soon as i realized the on-sale wasn't happening, i bought a pair of 300 level, row A tix for 125 a piece. not my preference, but i don't feel sodomized. shit, i paid 200 a ticket face value to see prince, and i expect this show to provide as much or more enjoyment than the prince show.

the whole situation is very un-dude, but sometimes you must abide. good luck, folks.

I heard that anybody who ever downloaded an album for free didn't get tickets. So congrats: you've been outed.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:40 PM

NO! NO FREE SHOWS! ARE YOU CRAZY? play fucking bowery ballroom and do what NIN did!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:41 PM

Dear 4chan/Anonymous

Take down StubHub & Ticketmaster plz

:)

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:41 PM

hey 138, work all next week without getting paid. make it happen.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:43 PM

Clearly nobody is working today

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:46 PM

James has definitely lost control of the situation (if ever had any control at all) - his last tweet is basically "I hope the scalpers lower their prices, for your sake." Thanks buddy.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:47 PM

white people problems.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:49 PM

i work at a bank and this is what i'm overhearing. "you ever hear of a band called lcd soundsytem?" "no." "apparently they sold out msg in 5 minutes."
SO DEPRESSING

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:50 PM

Dear 4Chan/Anonymous,

Please find this scalper, give us his personal information and let us destroy him:

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:50 PM

Well, now you've pushed your luck a little too far, "dumb ass." Pustular means "Of, relating to, or consisting of pustules." Clearly, scalpers are a pestilence, but my statement, which I'll stand by, is that scalpers relate to, and consist of, pustules.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:51 PM

I popped some of my backne and a GA LCD Soundsystem ticket oozed out

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:53 PM

"Dear 4chan/Anonymous

this

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:53 PM

i think 12:44 may be right. Some tix just weren't released, whether by design or not.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:55 PM

I'm one of the people who passed on the 300 section seats I was offered during the presale and I definitely dont feel stupid about it. For $60 those seats suck balls. I figured I'd try to get GA this morning, and if I couldnt get that, I'd pass on the show altogether. I got through at exactly 11am (with drop down menus), requested 1 ticket (any price, any section), typed in the recaptcha bullshit, and was immediatly told there were no tickets available. I tried again and again for about half hour with the same result every time. I figured I'd at least get offered a shitty seat. Once I saw the BV tweet that the show was sold out, I gave up, mostly because I'm at work and had already wasted enough time on this bullshit. Paying more than face value for this show IS something I would feel stupid about, though.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:56 PM

All you guys saying you waited in the "freezing" cold are pussies. It barely gets chilly in NYC.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:58 PM

@ 1:07 PM LOL!! who the FUCK uses YAHOO? do you also live in north dakota and sit at truckstops waiting to suck dick before going home to your wife? haha what are you on YAHOO trolling the m4m chat rooms for cock? that was the funniest post in this shit! you sir are the funniest commenter! you win!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:58 PM

Having no soul makes the cold feel worse

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:59 PM

Scalpers are definitely a pestilence and "pustualr", but if 'pustulant/pustular' is what you meant, then why did you correct yourself and say 'oh i meant this. my bad' when they just meant the same thing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:00 PM

1:56, i'm in the same boat as you, except i'm not prepared to miss this show. if folks don't have them yet (from the merc box office), they aren't getting pit tix. i though that was pretty obvious to everyone. you keep being a righteous dude though, and pass on this epic event b/c 300 section seats "suck balls."

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:03 PM

Obviously you guys don't use Ticketmaster much..
Bought around ~30 concert/event tickets from TM during 2010
Most important thing is when theres a pre-sale ALL TICKETS ARE UP FOR SALE

Its not like they put 25% of the tickets online and if it sells out thats it for the pre-sale
Ticketmaster puts everything up, and you guys that "threw back" 300's thinking you'd get better seats during regular sale are all wrong

Biggest example I can give was the us open in Queens,
they had some long (2-week?) pre-sale for amex only
So obviously the second regular ticket sales go live none of the last 4-5 days of games are available, 0 tickets out of 8 events
they just sold everything to amex holders, saved nothing for the regular folk

Should of sold all tickets locally, would of been a much funnier clusterfuck

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:03 PM

@2:03 you have no idea what yr talking about. very cool that you cite queen as a good reference/comparison point. this is totally just like that one time you saw queen. moron.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:06 PM

LCD Soundsystem > White Stripes

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:06 PM

1:58 notice is taken that you are a king among men who can withstand superhuman extremes. Sadly however, one cannot get around the truth that when it is below 32, it is 'freezing'. It was below 32 Wednesday. Thus, shut the fuck up.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:07 PM

I don't understand how a band that has never received any radio play (except maybe on college/internet radio) can sell out the Garden this quickly. MHofW or something comparable in size is understandable, but MSG?

Posted by Dan | February 11, 2011 2:07 PM

ticketmaster has nyc music fans in an evil, fascist headlock. oh how i hate them. let me count the ways! come on james. you have the opportunity to go out like a REAL rockstar here and try to effect some epic change to this horrible and unjust atrocity of a system. do it for YOURSELF. power to the people!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:07 PM

"it was a big mistake having this show at MSG in the first place. when you get involved with venues like that, this shit is bound to happen. should've been 5 nights at terminal 5 or similar.
Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:53 AM"

isnt that what they did in 2010? 4 shows?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:07 PM

Obviously 2:03 uses Ticketmaster for scalping purposes, otherwise he would know that talking about tickets to the US Open on a BrooklynVegan comment section would make that pretty obvious.

Presales don't put up all the tickets, by the way.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:07 PM

2:03 also used the word "folk" to reference people. I think the old scalper guy from that villagevoice pic of the Mercury line has just discovered the BV comment board...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:10 PM

@2:07 no im just a guy with a dream of watching the us open finals
isnt it the ultimate vegan fantasy (via vampire weekend paddle tennis)?

hell ill even do semi-finals
no way was i paying stubhub prices

also scalpers probably buy 30 tickets a month, not a year

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:12 PM

i got a ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:12 PM

Welp... At least I managed to get Coachella tickets...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:13 PM

Has anyone actually considered that the band is the shady player?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:14 PM

if this shit is so "sold out" how come bowery presents hasnt updated? it still says buy tix on their website. ughhh this is the worst ticket buying nonsense that i can remember.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:15 PM

@2:03 I certainly will keep on being a "righteous dude" as you put it. I've seen this band before and know they are decent but not worth getting ripped off by scalpers to see. For the price I would've paid for the crappy 300 section seats, I can go see at least 2 other shows at venues where I can get as close to stage as I damn well please.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:19 PM

No shit. LCD said that will be their LAST show. It's not their ONLY show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:23 PM

psshh this is child's play comparing to phish on-sales

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:25 PM

I read a news story elsewhere that said some Yahoo! scalper group organized to buy up all the tickets because of Murphy's angry comments earlier this week directed at them. So to 1:58 who made fun of Yahoo!, turns out its still as relevant as ever on days like today and your friend 1:07 was probably part of this entire scalper buy-out organization.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:25 PM

For those of you who think LCD is the fastest to sell out MSG, you never tried getting tickets for a NYE Phish show. That's one for the books year after year.

Posted by anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:27 PM

LOl to the people saying play 2 shows. You go to the second last one, I'll go to the last.

Posted by cory | February 11, 2011 2:27 PM

2:25 I hope your mother gets raped by a gaggle of silver-backed gorillas while you're engulfed in flames. Comment fucker

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:29 PM

the only difference is phish fucking sucks

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:31 PM

lol at the silverback gorilla comment. awesome.

Posted by Dian Fossey | February 11, 2011 2:34 PM

is 1:58 serious?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:37 PM

The difference about Phish is that they understand how the process works and make most of their tickets available to fans via a lottery system

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:37 PM

1:58-What the fuck are YOU talking about? Yahoo mail is far from outdated idiot. I also have gmail, is that still cool to you idiot? Probably a moron who thinks sitting in the 300's is actually a good seat.

2:03 pm-another clueless know nothing. Pit tickets were not just sold at Merc box office. They sold about 250 at Merc. You know how many people fit in that pit? Betcha don't stupid but it is far more.

The other 2:03-just like your budyy above with the mis info. Presales most definately hold back many tickets. Fucking shit for brains.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:41 PM

seems like even a lottery would eventually get filled with scalpers..
only thing left to do is just hope no one buys, everyone come to msg day of concert

last years "omg Pavement are reuniting" concert in central park sold out immediately
scalpers were hanging out outside the venue selling for face value after the hype faded

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:41 PM

To the Stubhub rep that keeps posting here -

This is not an example of a free marketplace. This is an example of collusion between Ticketmaster/Stubhub and MSG to hoard tickets to artificially inflate prices. It's illegal and you guys should be thrown in jail the second this is finally proven.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:41 PM

Evidently YOU care, anonymous, because not only did you take the time to read the responses but to comment on them.

Posted by sarah | February 11, 2011 2:44 PM

Actually, they sold more than 250 tix at Merc Lounge. You obviously weren't in line to see how many people actually bought tickets, neither did you read that the online presale nor TM sold GA.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:47 PM

you know everyone made fun of Pearl Jam when they called out ticketmaster in the 90s. who's laughing now?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:47 PM

This thread by the way is hilarious. Reading the children losing their minds over this is priceless. In a world gone mad this is just what we need to feel better.

Unless you are in the pit(and even then it's not great) you are not in a good seat. The sound sucks at that fucking cavern and if you say otherwise you have not got a fucking ounce of a clue as to what good sound is. And for the 200's and 300's lol the people watching the video at home will have better views and sound.

For those that saw the Bowery show or the Music Hall show last year and even the Angel Orensantz show know that the band can play 10 hours on April 2 at that shithole and it won't be better than what you saw earlier

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:48 PM

james murphy is super shady - not ticketmaster

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:48 PM

the Angel O show was money!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:51 PM

the 300th commenter wins a pair of pit tickets!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:52 PM

hahahha this was funny!
ok for real, when do tickets ACTUALLY go on sale?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:54 PM

2:47 I actually was on line at Merc. I got GA there. I was the guy that posted the other day about how i cut in line at 9:15 and was able to score. Basically the first 125-150 people or so got tickets.
Oh and i was able to get GA today as well.

So ummm fuck you?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:54 PM

@2:52 Best comment ever!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:57 PM

Totally off topic but the last time I was at an LCD Soundsystem show, there was this amazingly annoying couple who were not only talking during the whole show but were talking about TMI info. The guy kept asking her "Do you like my seven and a half inches? Do you like my seven and a half inches? Is it the biggest you've ever had?" Yeah bro you're cool.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:59 PM

i almost bought tickets on stubhub until i realized i could buy an 8ball and microwave a speak-n-spell to get the same experience.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:59 PM

i wish LCD Soundsystem tickets got effed up EVERY friday, so I would always have entertaining material to read until the weekend started.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:00 PM

@2:13 HAHAHAHA me too!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:03 PM

@259...AHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHA

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:04 PM

As a ticket broker nothing is more satisfying than this.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:04 PM

You are all morons. Lcd underpriced the show and held the inventory to put on stubhub. Wake up. It is so obvious.

MUSIC FANS: IF WE ALL AGREE NOT TO PAY MORE THAN FACE VALUE ON STUBHUB, WE WIN! or at least they don't.

Posted by Music Fan | February 11, 2011 3:05 PM

JUST GOT ONE! 400 LEVEL TIC, BUT AT FACE

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:05 PM

This is happening. And its awful.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:09 PM

2:47--what are talking about? no one made fun of them. everyone knew they were right even then.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:11 PM

Easy solution: add another show the next day, price tickets at market value (I'm guessing that's about 250 for pit tickets).

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:16 PM

1:21/2:00, why are you dead set on correcting people that you don't even know? I'm pretty sure everyone understood the original puss post. Why are you so angry?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:18 PM

MUSIC FANS: IF WE ALL AGREE NOT TO PAY MORE THAN FACE VALUE ON STUBHUB, WE WIN! or at least they don't.

good luck getting everyone to agree

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:19 PM

My fellow hipster brethren, Here here! Lets assemble, organize and rebel, like our brothers in Egypt! United we can topple the evil Ticketmaster/Stubhub regime! If for only a moment we could stop arguing about hummus recipes, I'm sure we can be victorious!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:19 PM

this band isn't even any good. what is wrong with you people?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:25 PM

@316, are you retarded? $250 market value for a SECOND MSG show? The market value for the pit tix as is probably isn't even that much save a couple rich dbags.

This is the most artificially hyped show in recent memory.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:31 PM

bp takes $ from ticket resellers to funnel them large quantities of tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:35 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:41 PM

if they really wanted to combat scalpers to just this one event, require a name when purchasing, and a photo ID upon entering.

was that so hard?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:42 PM

no farting in the pit?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:50 PM

@ 2:41 sweet epic meltdown bro! how old are you? 48? haha go suck a bag of herpetic cocks..yahoo...pffffffffft...i bet your farts smell like cum! oh man what a joke...melt DOWN! yahoo mail? are you fucking serious? and yes gmail is the way to go pops...suck it! wham.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:52 PM

Let's argue about email clients!! WE'RE SO COOOL!!

Seriously, you two are the biggest dbags in this thread.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:53 PM

3:42, this is MSG not Bowery. Is every person checking tickets supposed to have a master list of however many thousands of people bought tickets? There are about 20 will call windows at MSG. So, yes, it would be difficult.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:54 PM

people only fart in the pit at arcade fire, duh

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:54 PM

LCD Soundsystem sucks. Boy there are a lot of stupid people out there willing to throw away their $.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:54 PM

why would you need a master list, show them the ticket with your name on it and photo ID, and let them in

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:55 PM

1:57 is a doosh lying about having tickets 3:53..that is all..and yes, yahoo is a joke.

this will be out on DVD anyway, so just wait and relax

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 3:57 PM

Schumer just announced that he will hold a Congressional Hearing on this matter next week.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:09 PM

The craigslist thing posted at 4:13 is b/s. Something went wrong, but I just can't see it being Murphy orchestrating a scam.

Posted by Dan | February 11, 2011 4:19 PM

i don't know about you guys, but i use hipstermail.com

Posted by russ | February 11, 2011 4:20 PM

the 350th commenter wins 2 pairs of pit tickets PLUS a lietime supply of hummus (a special limited edition flavor customized by James Murphy himself) and pita triangles (with all of the LCD SS members' faces baked into them)!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:21 PM

@4:13 brilliant analysis

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:30 PM

I'm torn between whether it was the case 4:13 suggests, or (more likely), that Scalpers had some sort of inside track (presumably, some sort of captcha-completing browser plug-in).

The latter is most-definitely a criminal act, considering that not only is such technology "forbidden", by TM, but turning a blind-eye enables them to profit twice off the same ticket (due to their relationship with StubHub). Either way, this is a singular instance of tickets being this scarce. There's no way that mere demand made every ticket disappear into the vapor this quickly.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:32 PM

Apologies, 3:55. I have never seen someone's name on a ticketmaster ticket before, and did not know it was possible. Maybe. Although, what would you do about someone who bought multiple tickets? They could just walk in with the people they sold their tickets to, which is generally what happens at the Bowery and MHOW shows that limit ticket purchases to 2 and check ID's off of a master list at the one point of entry.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:35 PM

MUBARAK WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:36 PM

LSD Mound-system: I guarantee this will not be their last show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:37 PM

maybe now james can buy a new shirt (from banana republic, probably)

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:38 PM

Does anyone not seem to realize that they're probably a decent size guest list for this shit?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:40 PM

4:13 is ignoring the fact that the scalpers "on the ground" are not the same people purchasing/"securing" the tickets in the first place.

The only way this is some sort of plot by the band is if all these tickets somehow reappear the night before the show as a massive april fool's joke.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:41 PM

"i almost bought tickets on stubhub until i realized i could buy an 8ball and microwave a speak-n-spell to get the same experience.
Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 2:59 PM"

Funniest comment I've read in years, my family just asked what's wrong with me. Also they just bought hummus. I wish I was making this us.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:42 PM

4:32 - why would the scalpers choose lcd soundsystem and not bieber or gaga or something to use such technology?

why was it that nobody got stuck in virtual waiting rooms? usually when there is a ton of demand that is exactly what happens. clearly there was not internet traffic commensurate with the speed at which the show sold out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:43 PM

4:40 - yes. I mean, Punches have to get in somehow, right?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:43 PM

I rate this 9.2 out of 10 on the clusterfuck scale

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:43 PM

4:35, I don't think that the big scalper problem is people selling portions of tickets that they plan to attend (it's a minor portion, but negligible). In fact, it would probably be a win-win, because scalpers would need to enter a show that they had no interest in (thus exposing them to the people that hate them, and reduce their profit margin by a large percentage). Additionally, their immediate exit would keep places like T5 from getting as over-sold, since any scalper that had a hot enough ticket to justify burning one, would be one less body in that fucking toilet.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:43 PM

The idea that James Murphy using this show as an attempt to make big bucks on scaling sites is a little like the Obama election episode of South Park.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:44 PM

LOL at scalpers not being organized. That shits an industry at this point. Hell, Stubhub probably invests in the bots/call centers the scalpers use. They make 25% of all sales for being a shopping cart.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:45 PM

The sale page didnt show up for me til 11:05.. kept on trying and got 2 single seats on the floor (behind GA) at 11;14 and 11;22

Posted by Lucky | February 11, 2011 4:45 PM

Wow 4:13 is making too much sense. The presale did happen too, but can that have caused this much disparity? I don't buy the scaplper angle either since it seems that the 'premium' seats are in too high of a supply.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:45 PM

wavves > lcd

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:46 PM

You dumb fucks. Ticketmaster doesn't own stubhub. Stubhub is owned by ebay. Think about that before raging against the machine maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.

In b4 some fag accuses me of being a tm/sh employee.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:47 PM

Anyone disbelieving the scalping cause doesn't know the ticketing industry.

Scalpers dont buy shit seats, they buy premium seats. Too much risk without reward investing in the nosebleeds after the 15% commission plus labor costs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:48 PM

4:43, was wondering that too. Is it possible that TM's "shields were down" since this isn't a Gaga or Bieber concert?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:48 PM

4:13 is finally making his/her math degree from vassar pay off!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:48 PM

This is 4:13. I'm not singling James Murphy out as a person, as he likely didn't orchestrate this type of thing on his own. I'm sure it was more his management. It just seems too weird that there are no tickets onsale. I did pull 1 off the amex sale, but none of my friends did and isnt that mainly the point of these shows? have fun with your friends?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:51 PM

what I find odd is the numerous sections of seats that are completely vacant of being sold on stubhub. Nearly every section of the Loge seating (sections 10ish thru 100) have ZERO seats up for sale on stubhub. I'm thinking this show isn't sold out and that there's another wave of tickets still to be realized sometime and somewhere. What do all you hummus loving creeps think?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:51 PM

The smoking gun is and continues to be the fact that nobody got caught in virtual waiting rooms. The demand for tickets (expressed as the amount of people hitting the site)was not as high as the rate of sellout. 4:13 is right.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:55 PM

James Murphy's celebity friends include Iron Chef, Bobby Flay, Rachael Ray & the ghost of Dom DeLuise

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:56 PM

Stages of Grief:

Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance

Looks like its somewhere between Anger and Bargaining.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 4:57 PM

I am scalper. I got 3 pairs. I don't look like any of those guys on the street (who work for brokers, btw). I have sophisticated means of getting tickets. This was a very tough ticket. I think a lot more than usual were listed for the presale. Others in my "scalper" network didn't get much either. There is no controversy here - just pure demand. It's amazing how many of you people don't understand that "StubHub" does not buy tickets any more than "eBay" sells the shitty faux-vintage bullshit you like to wear. It's an exchange. Did they not teach that in your Library Science courses at Fordham?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 5:02 PM

if you were lazy enough to wait until today in attempt to get tickets then you probably don't deserve to go anyways.. or you do.. but you deserve to pay $3000.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 5:03 PM

Of note is that the tickets for this show are comparable to Roger Waters tickets at MSG, and this is the peak market.

This is capitalism. Don't like it? Vote for the Green Party or move to Canada you fcks.

I am an LCD Soundsystem fan, that is the only subjective comment for this piece. I will lay out the facts and you can decide. At the end I will of course go on a tirade about my own personal conclusion, but you can easily ignore this.

Supply

MSG seating capacity (concert): 22,000 x 1 night = 22,000 tickets
Terminal 5 capacity: 3,000 x 4 nights = 12,000 tickets
Music Hall of Williamsburg capacity: 550 x 1 night = 550 tickets

Demand – Time to Sell Out/ Scalped Prices/ Rareness

MSG: Instantaneous/$135 to $3,500 /LAST SHOW EVER
Terminal 5: Weeks/$100/4 shows
Music Hall of Williamsburg: 10 minutes/$100/FIRST SHOW IN 3 YEARS

Black Market Supply: 708 tickets
Premium Seats Available: 329 tickets (46.5%)
General Admission Pit: 105 tickets
Section 6 (Center Floor): 70 tickets
Section 7 (Center Floor): 56 tickets
Section 8 (Side Floor): 21 tickets
Section 5 (Side Floor): 36 tickets
Sections 9 - 12 (Back Floor – Center): 41 tickets
Remaining Supply: 379 tickets(53.5%)

Ok, so let’s try and sort through some of this information. Let’s assume that the Terminal 5 shows represent the base case demand model for LCD Soundsystem. Further let’s assume that there were no repeats for the Terminal 5 shows to be conservative. (This is obviously not the case as I attended 3 myself.) That would total 12,000 tickets plus an excess demand of 10% for fans who could not get into the show (again conservative). That would mean the base case demand for an LCD Soundsystem show given no special circumstances can really be no more than 14,000 people. MSG holds 22,000 people. After some simple arithmetic that leaves a buffer of about 8,000 tickets to account for the fact that this is THE EFFING LAST SHOW EVER AND EVERYONE WANTS TO GO WOOOOO!!!! Would demand increase 57% because of this fact? Maybe. HOWEVA, that would only be the case for the show to sell out leaving all fans reasonably satisfied that they had a fair shot at a ticket and almost all fans holding a ticket no matter how craptastic the seat may be.

This was not the case as it has been buzzed about that finding someone with a ticket to this show is about as rare as getting away with doobie puffin at a Bowery Presets show. This show was sold out before the tickets even went on sale. I was both on the phone with ticketmaster and refreshing my website at exactly 11AM this morning and both sources immediately notified me that there were no more tickets. ‘You mean 1 ticket is too many Mr. Ticketmaster? Yes. Now go to Stubhub’
That is peculiar. There were no wait times. No you have 15 minutes to find out that there were thousands of people who can decipher an encaptcha faster than you. Just straight to sold out.

Then you turn to Stubhub as recommended by Ticketmaster and notice there are a disproportionate amount of pretty sweet premium type seats. There are 70 tickets available in Section 6 on Stubhub? WHAAAT how many seats are even in Section 6? And 70 of them made it up on Stubhub already. And 56 likeminded people in Section 7? AND 105 in the GA PIT AREA. /inner monologue Oh, I have the most coveted ticket at the show. Ill just throw it up on Stubhub instantaneously. I will not even entertain going and then a week before place it up for sale and count my money. /end inner monologue.

Well maybe this is always the case with MSG shows that are so popular. WRONG. Pulled up Lady Gaga’s (shes pretty popular right?) MSG show on 2/21 to evaluate. 608 tickets available. That seems similar. Without boring you with the details 26% of her seats would be considered premium. With a nice even distribution throughout the venue.

So what do I think happened here? Did Ticketmaster do something? They would have to be pretty dumb to be behind something like this after the Springsteen fiasco. Is MSG behind this? They get a lot more important shows for way more money to actually care about one lousy LCD Soundsystem show. MSG is the Mecca of concertgoing and sports. Ticketscalpers: NO WAY YOU THINK THOSE GUYS CAN ORGANIZE SOMETHING LIKE THIS THEY CAN BARELY HELP THEMSELVES FROM TRIPPING OVER EACH OTHER OUTSIDE.

So that leaves one last culprit: the band. One last show, one last money grab. I am sure they figured all the fans can get in and they can squeeze some extra nickels and dimes out of the corporate types. /James Murphy inner monologue ‘It won’t be so bad they will get to see us one more time and we will put on a show they will never forget. Oh I heard you can get even more money for premium seats. hmm’

These tickets did not go on sale they were held back and are systematically being sold through other avenues or are being given away to his new found celebrity friends.

Posted by Guy on Craigslist | February 11, 2011 5:36 PM

Why wouldn't they just make the face value of the tickets higher? they easily could have had "Gold Circle" tickets for $250 or something

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 5:41 PM

wow, i really didn't think it would get to 400, but the 400th commenter wins the last prize pack: 10 GA tickets, plus one nosebleed ticket for your "friend" who you actually can't stand AND you get to beat the sleezy scalpers from the mercury lounge line with chains on the stage at MSG while James Murphy tweets fromt he sidelines!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 5:42 PM

@4:13 Garden seats closer to 17k w the concert layout.

only 3k more than your terminal 5 #'s - not ridiculous for NYC-based act and "Last Show" hype.

most curious thing you don't address is why the presale was supposed to start at 11 AM and "fans" were only able to get tickets starting at 11:05.

could it be that StubHub/eBay had purchasing exclusivity between 11 and 11:05?

muahaahahahaha

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 5:45 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 6:01 PM

Agree with everything 5:41 wrote up until the conclusion.

Something isn't right about this, but this has happened with many other MSG/Ticketmaster sales in the past. It's some kind of corruption between Ticketmaster/Stubhub/MSG. I don't believe the band is involved. Though I do believe they are culpable for choosing this venue.

But it's definitely fraudulent, I don't think there is any doubt about that.

@ lcdsoundsystem called Ticketmaster. They sold some 8,000 tickets at the presale and had ONLY 355 tickets left for the sale today. WTF!!!

WHERE ARE THE REST OF THE TICKETS???
MSG HOLDS 18,000 FOR A SHOW WITH NO BEHIND STAGE SOLD.

10,0000 missing tickets!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 7:32 PM

@7:22 precisely for thinking they know everything. and it certainly didn't sell out in a minute. i would bet the majority went during the pitchfork presale on wednesday when we picked up 18 tickets, people were still getting tickets 50 min after go time. but then again I could be wrong.. unlike everyone on this thread who are the smartest, most in-the-know people in all of the land.

Prince charged $20 for the upper level tickets at MSG. He has been around for decades. Respect for one's fans is a wonderful thing.

You are paying money to see LCD, who is telling you, outright, that LCD does not have the staying power, drive, interest, whatever, to stick around and create more art under the LCD name. And you are desperate to get these tickets?

Sheep.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 8:04 PM

@8:04 Prince being around for decades lowers the demand and subsequent price for tickets. at least sheep herd into colleges and take basic economics classes.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 8:08 PM

upper level tickets for LCD were like $35. whoa.. no respect, eh?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 8:11 PM

i'm not sure if i agree with the ultimate conclusion arrived at by the craigslist theory guy, but the majority of the argument seems pretty damn sound to me. for example: why was there no 15 minute wait time? why did ostensibly everyone who did not use AMEX or another non-normal route get completely shut out? it makes no logical sense that so many people were able to refresh at 11:00:01-05, select the number of tickets they wanted, immediately enter the captcha (which probably takes, on average, 8 seconds or so in all), have zero wait time while Ticketmaster was "finding" their tickets, and then almost immediately get a "sold out" notification. that means the show sold out, at least for those who went through the "normal" (i.e., non-AMEX) route, in less than 20 seconds. pretty fuckin fishy to me. last thing: every time i've played the "refresh at 11am" game for a show that is in high demand, even if i can choose tickets and fill out the captcha in seconds, the wait time that Ticketmaster gives me while they are "finding" my tickets is always greater than 1 minute (and usually 2, 3, 4, and sometimes 5 or 6). this morning there was no wait time whatsoever. fucked up, i tell ya.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 8:15 PM

i hope i'm wrong, but i seriously doubt james and co. have any power to resolve this. i read something on the board about a TM ticket outlet in NJ and 6K+ tix were apparently sold during the presale, and 8K+ tix were sold today, or vice versa.

pretty confident this was a very well calculated hit by sophisticated scalpers/agencies using expensive software bots and the like, basically locking up the TM site for the first several mins. not really sure what can be done about it, unfortunately. unless they decide to cancel all tix (hopefully other than those obtained from merc box office) and resell them in some other format, i think folks are sol here (unless they are prepared to drop some coin, or wait it out).

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 8:19 PM

fucked up for sure. but what if ticketmaster accidently (or even purposefully) sold too many during the wednesday presale not expecting a ton of sales? plus by looking at stubhub there are several sections in the loge that clearly were never for sale in the first place.. so perhaps they are all reserved for friends.

holy shit
this here is just to say that we were more than taken aback and surprised about the speed of ticket sales for the april 2nd MSG gig, as well as the effectiveness of scalper pieces of fucking shit at getting their hands on said tickets before fans could, and it’s knocked us on our asses.
no—we didn’t have a smart paperless ticketing system in place, and no—we didn’t have the pre-sale worked out very well, but this is simply because we’ve never sold anything out so quickly in our LIVES, and certainly never sold out anything as big as MSG. i personally thought i was being bold in suggesting to our manager that we might sell it out “in 10 days”. that was my bold claim. everyone laughed at me. it’s us and liquid liquid. that’s it. we had MEETINGS and MEETINGS about the “other band” we needed to “fill the place”, as we were definitely considered to be nowhere near big enough (most of these bands were, like, way bigger than us, by the way).
we didn’t sell out hollywood bowl, and that was with both hot chip and sleigh bells. there was, i repeat, no expectation of our selling this out either. my main concerns at the time were things like ticketmaster charges—how they were going to make the tickets ridiculously costly… we never dreamed some shitbags would try to get THOUSANDS for our show. it’s insane.
but it happened. we all looked at each other in horror and sat there. i mean, aren’t you supposed to be psyched? your band sold out madison square garden! i live in nyc, and that’s THE PLACE. i saw the jackson’s victory tour there when i was a kid.
but there it was—the shit was gone, and people—not just people, but fucking proper fans—were PISSED. nancy from the band tried to buy tickets. failed. i tried. failed. our best friends—not wanting to hassle us for guestlist spots tried—failed. i bought 2 tickets to my own show for 3 times the value like an idiot to see if real tickets showed up. my family got burned.
it was, to say the least, weird.
we tried getting another day at MSG. i’d mentioned this before and most everyone kind of rolled their eyes at me. “2 madison square garden shows, dude? really?” i thought, well, just in case, you know? maybe some people would fly from other places or something. but MSG, being one of the most popular venues on the planet, was unsurprisingly booked. (for the record: just because it doesn’t look booked on the internet, doesn’t mean it’s available. just saying.)
we tried calling our lawyer about the ticket scalping. “it’s legal”. no joke. it’s fucking legal. i tramped around with friends and band getting insane. i wanted to buy some expensive tickets and then track the seller down to BEAT him. i acted stupid. i did some classic, shakespearean vain “fist shaking”, etc. i made angry tweets. (i’m wondering now what on earth could be less effective and more of a first-world spoiled idiotic move than “angry tweets”? jesus.) i read conspiracy theories about how this was some cash-grab i orchestrated. i read that there are 50,000 seats at MSG (i think our show will have 13k). i read that people had already bought flights, hotels. wanted to bring their kids. waited in the cold. i read that some people thought this was one of the reasons we were calling it quits (check). i read that this was a media stunt we planned. i read very funny comments from my friend aziz, one of which was taken seriously (that MSG had given me 30,000 tickets personally for guest list). i read that i was giving all the tickets to my “new celebrity friends” (aziz is about the closest thing i have to a “celebrity friend”, and we met at terminal 5 watching hot chip when we were, well, not very “celebrated”). i read that we should cancel the show and put the tickets up on sale in a better fashion. i read that we should NOT do that, for fuck’s sake. i read that we should go fuck ourselves.
i read a lot of stuff, waiting to hear if we could get another night at MSG, which seemed like the only option. but it failed. then i kind of sat in my house, trying not to worry for 20 minutes, and made a very, very good coffee.
i don’t know what people think about us, really. i’d love to say i don’t care, but i do. these people in my band—they are my very good friends. i love them very much. i love this band very much. everything about it. i’m very proud of it—of us, and i get defensive when people talk shit about us. i feel like we’ve been able to do something sort of special for 9 years: making music we like the way we like it. going on tour and playing, no computers or bullshit. no in-ears. a bunch of weird substitute teachers just trying to play something like the bands we loved growing up. whenever anyone said shit about us being sellouts or something, it stung, because i consider this entire thing—the band, everything—to be a communication between us and whoever is listening, and not just a thing unto itself. i remember being a fan and seeing bands, thinking “this is us. this is you playing and me/us watching” and how real that connection was, and i always wanted to honor that strange relationship with our band. so when someone felt wronged or hurt or outraged, it stung. it stung because, on some level, regardless of the “you can’t please everyone” stuff that gets rationally said to you when this shit happens, it meant that i’d failed. i’d failed to communicate. on the other hand, i’ve had my world turned upside down by a lot of amazing things people have said about us, or to us. i’ve met fans and made friends, and felt very strongly how that relationship actually works—and how we brought ourselves, each other, finally here, to where we play our last show—and biggest show ever—together, at this amazing place.
and then, this fucking ticket thing happened.
so to the point. you can’t make everyone happy, and i’m sure this will wind someone up somewhere (“but i paid $600 for one seat at MSG!!!) or seem like some shitty “plan” to someone else (“they were gonna do it all along!!! it’s all a big retirement money plan to bilk the fans!!!”) or something else that someone who theoretically likes our band thinks (why are you trying to buy a ticket?? how could you even listen to a band that you think is capable of some of this shit!??) but we’ve come up with the best solution i can think of, as quickly as possible so as to deflate the market for those scalping scumfucks.
we’re going to play 4 shows at terminal 5 in nyc leading up to the MSG show, and they will include most if not all of the songs we play at MSG. the farewell run-up to the last dance. it’ll be the 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st of march. OBVIOUSLY we’re going to look seriously at the way we sell these tickets. not “paperless, (i’ve been advised that the “paperless” thing is apparently now ILLEGAL in NY… seriously—don’t ask me) but there are some ideas floating around that could be just as effective (though it’ll take a minute to get folks in the door.)
we’ll announce the shows officially early in the week, and tickets will be on sale soon after. we’re announcing all the shows at once, and if they don’t sell out, i don’t care. i just want to give people who actually want to see us a chance to see us. for a reasonable ticket price. and i want to drop the price of the MSG tickets being sold by piece of shit scalpers.
oh—and a small thing to scalpers: “it’s legal” is what people say when they don’t have ethics. the law is there to set the LIMIT of what is PUNISHABLE (aka where the state needs to intervene) but we are supposed to have ethics, and that should be the primary guiding force in our actions, you fucking fuck.
and to everyone else: thank you. you rule. don’t let the shitbags win.
i feel like conan o’brien.

By the way i have participated in booking events at MSG and it does simply work that if the date is available you can book the venue. Especially, on a Friday night.
James Murphy is either lying or what is much more likely is that someone (most likely Bowery Presents) is lying to him. I have had the displeasure of working with them as well and all I would say is Julian Assange would not be fans of them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:15 PM

Agreed Bowery Presents is evil. The "conspiracy post" makes a lot of sense. But you have to follow the money trail and that ends at the Bowery Presents people.

James Murphy = one awesome dude. Period. End of (that) story.
But, bottom line here (IMHO), he got suckered...by TM would be my first guess. Next, his mgm't team simply didn't know what they were doing. Everyone got stary-eyed with "MSG...SOLD OUT".
They didn't believe that could happen?! I say to them (or anyone): read or re-read what James just said here...his love of the music, fans, etc...that is EXACTLY why it sold out. And the scalpers (and TM) were licking their chops all along the way.
It's VERY easy to see what is booked at MSG - just check their website. Every other night around April 2 is already booked...so LCD couldn't book another night (if that was even a thought OR what other people were thinking).
Adding shows at T5 huh? OK - excellent gesture at this point.
But it probably isn't going to diminish the desire for the ACTUAL LAST show (if, in fact, it really is the last show ever for LCD...and I still doubt that).

Posted by ecgroom | February 11, 2011 10:05 PM

i'm calling it now--it'll take weeks for all the t-5 shows to sell out. MSG did NOT sell out thanks to actual demand. however, enough fans did get tix and there aren't enough fanatics to devote an entire week of their lives to LCD shows.

There was definitely something fishy going on on Friday. I was able to get a pair of tickets during the presale--the page kept processing (looking for tickets) for about 7 minutes, then came up with a pair of seats not very good seats). On Friday, I was trying to do better. I got in right at 11:00 and the screen came back in a couple of seconds saying nothing was available. This makes absolutely no sense.
