FIGURES

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 8:49 PM

Who cares. Everyone in NYC who likes LCD got to see them this year if they wanted to. Unless these shows are 3 hours long like the msg show, than they are not worth seeing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 8:53 PM

Really? Where are these people coming from to warrant this? Wait, really????

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 8:54 PM

this just sucked the air out of the scalpers. Probably the last thing they wanted to hear.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 8:55 PM

holy shit
this here is just to say that we were more than taken aback and surprised about the speed of ticket sales for the april 2nd MSG gig, as well as the effectiveness of scalper pieces of fucking shit at getting their hands on said tickets before fans could, and it’s knocked us on our asses.
no—we didn’t have a smart paperless ticketing system in place, and no—we didn’t have the pre-sale worked out very well, but this is simply because we’ve never sold anything out so quickly in our LIVES, and certainly never sold out anything as big as MSG. i personally thought i was being bold in suggesting to our manager that we might sell it out “in 10 days”. that was my bold claim. everyone laughed at me. it’s us and liquid liquid. that’s it. we had MEETINGS and MEETINGS about the “other band” we needed to “fill the place”, as we were definitely considered to be nowhere near big enough (most of these bands were, like, way bigger than us, by the way).
we didn’t sell out hollywood bowl, and that was with both hot chip and sleigh bells. there was, i repeat, no expectation of our selling this out either. my main concerns at the time were things like ticketmaster charges—how they were going to make the tickets ridiculously costly… we never dreamed some shitbags would try to get THOUSANDS for our show. it’s insane.
but it happened. we all looked at each other in horror and sat there. i mean, aren’t you supposed to be psyched? your band sold out madison square garden! i live in nyc, and that’s THE PLACE. i saw the jackson’s victory tour there when i was a kid.
but there it was—the shit was gone, and people—not just people, but fucking proper fans—were PISSED. nancy from the band tried to buy tickets. failed. i tried. failed. our best friends—not wanting to hassle us for guestlist spots tried—failed. i bought 2 tickets to my own show for 3 times the value like an idiot to see if real tickets showed up. my family got burned.
it was, to say the least, weird.
we tried getting another day at MSG. i’d mentioned this before and most everyone kind of rolled their eyes at me. “2 madison square garden shows, dude? really?” i thought, well, just in case, you know? maybe some people would fly from other places or something. but MSG, being one of the most popular venues on the planet, was unsurprisingly booked. (for the record: just because it doesn’t look booked on the internet, doesn’t mean it’s available. just saying.)
we tried calling our lawyer about the ticket scalping. “it’s legal”. no joke. it’s fucking legal. i tramped around with friends and band getting insane. i wanted to buy some expensive tickets and then track the seller down to BEAT him. i acted stupid. i did some classic, shakespearean vain “fist shaking”, etc. i made angry tweets. (i’m wondering now what on earth could be less effective and more of a first-world spoiled idiotic move than “angry tweets”? jesus.) i read conspiracy theories about how this was some cash-grab i orchestrated. i read that there are 50,000 seats at MSG (i think our show will have 13k). i read that people had already bought flights, hotels. wanted to bring their kids. waited in the cold. i read that some people thought this was one of the reasons we were calling it quits (check). i read that this was a media stunt we planned. i read very funny comments from my friend aziz, one of which was taken seriously (that MSG had given me 30,000 tickets personally for guest list). i read that i was giving all the tickets to my “new celebrity friends” (aziz is about the closest thing i have to a “celebrity friend”, and we met at terminal 5 watching hot chip when we were, well, not very “celebrated”). i read that we should cancel the show and put the tickets up on sale in a better fashion. i read that we should NOT do that, for fuck’s sake. i read that we should go fuck ourselves.
i read a lot of stuff, waiting to hear if we could get another night at MSG, which seemed like the only option. but it failed. then i kind of sat in my house, trying not to worry for 20 minutes, and made a very, very good coffee.
i don’t know what people think about us, really. i’d love to say i don’t care, but i do. these people in my band—they are my very good friends. i love them very much. i love this band very much. everything about it. i’m very proud of it—of us, and i get defensive when people talk shit about us. i feel like we’ve been able to do something sort of special for 9 years: making music we like the way we like it. going on tour and playing, no computers or bullshit. no in-ears. a bunch of weird substitute teachers just trying to play something like the bands we loved growing up. whenever anyone said shit about us being sellouts or something, it stung, because i consider this entire thing—the band, everything—to be a communication between us and whoever is listening, and not just a thing unto itself. i remember being a fan and seeing bands, thinking “this is us. this is you playing and me/us watching” and how real that connection was, and i always wanted to honor that strange relationship with our band. so when someone felt wronged or hurt or outraged, it stung. it stung because, on some level, regardless of the “you can’t please everyone” stuff that gets rationally said to you when this shit happens, it meant that i’d failed. i’d failed to communicate. on the other hand, i’ve had my world turned upside down by a lot of amazing things people have said about us, or to us. i’ve met fans and made friends, and felt very strongly how that relationship actually works—and how we brought ourselves, each other, finally here, to where we play our last show—and biggest show ever—together, at this amazing place.
and then, this fucking ticket thing happened.
so to the point. you can’t make everyone happy, and i’m sure this will wind someone up somewhere (“but i paid $600 for one seat at MSG!!!) or seem like some shitty “plan” to someone else (“they were gonna do it all along!!! it’s all a big retirement money plan to bilk the fans!!!”) or something else that someone who theoretically likes our band thinks (why are you trying to buy a ticket?? how could you even listen to a band that you think is capable of some of this shit!??) but we’ve come up with the best solution i can think of, as quickly as possible so as to deflate the market for those scalping scumfucks.
we’re going to play 4 shows at terminal 5 in nyc leading up to the MSG show, and they will include most if not all of the songs we play at MSG. the farewell run-up to the last dance. it’ll be the 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st of march. OBVIOUSLY we’re going to look seriously at the way we sell these tickets. not “paperless, (i’ve been advised that the “paperless” thing is apparently now ILLEGAL in NY… seriously—don’t ask me) but there are some ideas floating around that could be just as effective (though it’ll take a minute to get folks in the door.)
we’ll announce the shows officially early in the week, and tickets will be on sale soon after. we’re announcing all the shows at once, and if they don’t sell out, i don’t care. i just want to give people who actually want to see us a chance to see us. for a reasonable ticket price. and i want to drop the price of the MSG tickets being sold by piece of shit scalpers.
oh—and a small thing to scalpers: “it’s legal” is what people say when they don’t have ethics. the law is there to set the LIMIT of what is PUNISHABLE (aka where the state needs to intervene) but we are supposed to have ethics, and that should be the primary guiding force in our actions, you fucking fuck.
and to everyone else: thank you. you rule. don’t let the shitbags win.
i feel like conan o’brien.
james

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:03 PM

it’s all a big retirement money plan to bilk the fans!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:03 PM

Why can't Slayer do this?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:06 PM

Why cant Stryper do this?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:10 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:11 PM

NORTH AMERICA!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:12 PM

I want to start a slow clap for James Murphy right now after his comment. Thank you for doing these four shows. We know LCD Soundsystem loves their fans.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:13 PM

James Murphy if you're reading this - you're the man, and please don't read BV comments no good will EVER come of it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:13 PM

will you be pumped to see their 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th to last show?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:20 PM

the second to the last show is a "zuba pants" show

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:20 PM

The only problem with James Murphy's post is that he may have validated all of the annoying bk vegan commenters. They now know that James Murphy read their complaints.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:20 PM

JAMES MURPHEY IS FUCKING AWESOME! Wow, love this dude! Cannot wait for these terminal 5 shows. Fucking count me in. Was bummed all day that I couldn't get MSG- this is the best news. Good job dude!

Posted by Anonyymous | February 11, 2011 9:23 PM

Most of you are truly awful people.

Great job, James. You tried to do a good thing, and it didn't work out as you planned. And so you tried again. That's why you're a success. I appeciate everything you've done today. Looking forward to some really fun shows!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:24 PM

an earlier post said that there would be 250 people in the pit at the Garden (from the mercury Lounge pre sale) and that they would have to put card board standups everywhere else to make it look full. Now with this addtion of these new shows and scalpers eating their tickets ..it's moved a little closer to happening. Garden party for sure.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:27 PM

I would be pumped to see LCD any time. Regardless if it was their last show or not. They are the best live band I've ever seen.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:28 PM

I am really glad LCD decided to add four more shows. Those shows are absolutely 100% for the fans who missed the MSG tickets. Yes, obviously, they will make money on those 4 shows, but playing music is not only their passion, but it' their FUCKING JOB. Let them reap the benefits. Let yourself enjoy the T5 shows, and know they are for YOU

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:30 PM

wait, why not 5 shows instead of 4? something fishy is going on here. murphy's up to something again. good thing I don't have any friends cause I couldn't be posting here if I did.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:31 PM

LOL @ 9:31

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:33 PM

too late, all 4 shows are sold out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:40 PM

scalpers have been elected president of Egypt.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:42 PM

take that hummus barons!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:42 PM

dont worry james will take all the tix and sell them on stubhub

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:43 PM

Well this whole thing has been a delightfully hilarious debacle. Can LCD Soundsystem go away now?

Anyone who already bought from a scalper is a real sucker!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:44 PM

This just cheapened the MSG show. And we just saw you play Terminal 5 last year.

LAME.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:44 PM

Tickets for LCD Soundsystem’s four T5 shows will go on sale February 18 at Ticketmaster.com for $40 each (plus applicable fees). Ticket holders will be required to show ID day of show to gain entry. There will be a 2 ticket limit per customer.

Posted by Tiki | February 11, 2011 9:47 PM

free concert in the park

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:47 PM

@Tiki, why a 2 ticket limit per customer? What if I am bringing some friends? I can't say I understand the need to limit it.

Posted by Cin89 | February 11, 2011 9:49 PM

Pearl Jam did this in 93.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:50 PM

LOL STFU Cin89. Are your friends invalids incapable of using teh interweb?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:50 PM

so proud of james for that post.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:51 PM

We just saw you play 4 shows at Terminal 5!!! Come on James! WEAK PR move!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:51 PM

the msg show is no longer special
suuuuuuuuucks

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:54 PM

@9:49

then have your fucking lazy friends buy their tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:54 PM

How about a month-long residency in Todd P's bathtub?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:55 PM

I feel bad for the people that waited online at Mercury Lounge. Seeing them in the GA at MSG is the same as seeing them at Terminal 5. What a weak offering from James. The intent is good, but the fans that did get tickets for MSG should be pissed.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:56 PM

EDDIE VEDDER>JAMES MURPHY

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:59 PM

No point in going to MSG unless you have pit tix

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 9:59 PM

9:56 - no offense, but shut up.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:00 PM

"the msg show is no longer special
suuuuuuuuucks"

Agreed.

Anywhere but Terminal 5! LAME.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:02 PM

there are so many lies in james letter. heres an obvious one: if paperless tix are illegal in ny then why is T5 paperless?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:02 PM

9:56 - "weak offering"? What, pray tell, would you have liked for him to have done instead, you entitled twat?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:02 PM

"I feel bad for the people that waited online at Mercury Lounge. Seeing them in the GA at MSG is the same as seeing them at Terminal 5. What a weak offering from James. The intent is good, but the fans that did get tickets for MSG should be pissed."

Completely agreed. MSG is lackluster compared to T5, and the final show is going to be significantly weaker than the previous four. They should cancel MSG, offer refunds to those with seats, and those who waited in the fucking freezing cold for 5 hours at Mercury passes for a REAL sendoff at Bowery or MHOW.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:04 PM

these shows should have been in brooklyn. that is where the band is from. that is where the real fans are from.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:04 PM

that said, still holding out for a mhow warm-up show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:05 PM

the best thing about this announcement is no seats!! everyone can f**in dance anywhere they please! and i know the sound/sightlines at t5 suck but i saw lcdss last year at t5 and it was amazing. even despite all the frat dudes dancing around me. thanks james!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:05 PM

Ummm at t5 shows, lcd will play for less than 2hrs....

at msg, they will play everything possible with 3hr banging set

msg show > t5 shows!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:05 PM

murphy himself is currently responding to 7 out of 10 posts on this thread.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:06 PM

these shows should have been in my pants. that is where the band is from. that is where the real fans are from.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:06 PM

10:02 - He could have booked any other venue. If he reads BV at all, he would know how hated that venue is. + they played shows at Terminal 5 last year. I attended them. This is lame, and I agree with the above, it cheapens the MSG show for those who got tickets, particularly those who waited in the freezing cold at Mercury Lounge for hours!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:07 PM

Y'all talk about this guy like he's Ronnie James Dio (R.I.P.) or someone of his ilk. I've never seen James Murphy slay a dragon or a giant spider.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:10 PM

I WAITED in the freezing cold for hours!!! Nobody wanted to see them play MSG. This SUCKS!

FUCK U JAMES.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:10 PM

james murphy hit on me in queens

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:11 PM

I don't understand why they don't want to play live shows with such a great fanbase.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:12 PM

Agreed with everyone who is pissed.

Thanks for screwing over the die-hard NY fans who skipped work to wait in 5 degree weather for hours to get tickets to your show, James....cancel MSG and play Bowery or Knitting Factory or something for us

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:12 PM

Let's see here....

1) capacity at T5....3000.....they sell 2700 tixs to the public 4 nights.

2) with promoters, venue, agents, managers, tech, and etc......they will probably get $20 out of $40 face value ticket

3) 2700 x 4 x 20 = $216,000

nice little paycheck for lcd boys hahahha

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:12 PM

20\m/. Horns up for LCDIO Soundsystem!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:12 PM

How about a show for people only with a brooklyn id?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:12 PM

your scalper's a sucker

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:13 PM

next thing you know, James Murphy will be all about Veganism and surfing. what a surprise

Posted by Eddie Vedder | February 11, 2011 10:13 PM

I'm glad for all of these shows because it'll get all of you whiny bitches off the streets for at least four or five hours. Plus you won't be at any other shows which should make for a douche free experience.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:15 PM

Bring the lasers and I'll be there.

A one night sendoff turns into a weeklong sendoff... and I think they deserve it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:15 PM

10:04 (MATT), please keep posting that same message everywhere on the internet.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:17 PM

BEST SOLUTION JAMES-

PLEASE REFUND ALL MSG TICKETS. HAVE THEM HONORED AT TERMINAL 5 SHOWS.

That totally works yo!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:17 PM

Seriously why not play 10 shows in a row at bowery with a paperless ticket maximum 1 per person. That is really the only fair way to do it. maybe 5 at bowery and 5 at music hall of williamsburg.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:18 PM

james, please dont let any foreigners come to this show

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:18 PM

THEY SHOULD ONLY PLAY MERCURY LOUNGE AS A YEAR LONG FAREWELL RESIDENCY

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:19 PM

"BEST SOLUTION JAMES-

PLEASE REFUND ALL MSG TICKETS. HAVE THEM HONORED AT TERMINAL 5 SHOWS."

Please do this! MSG "GA" sucks compared to T5

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:19 PM

wait arent paperless tickets illegal? i agree with the no foreigners idea

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:21 PM

10:04 - at the same time, it's kind of a big deal to headline msg, and doing so in your last show ever. plus, prices of that show will go way down now, and the band will still likely get a packed msg sendoff.

at this point, i don't care about msg floor anymore knowing i can see them at t5 days earlier, and also knowing that non-ga tickets will probably be available for a few bucks once the date nears.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:22 PM

wouldnt it be easier for his celeb friends to go if he has it at the wiltern in LA?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:23 PM

@boweryboston Bowery Boston
Book your train/bus tix now rt @lcdsoundsystem: march 28, 29, 30 and 31 at terminal 5 in NYC. details to follow.

BOWERY PRESENTS PROFITING - the real scumbags

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:23 PM

Why not look at it as an opportunity to see your favorite band more than once? How will it dilute your enjoyment of the MSG show which will be special (filmed, dress code, final, etc.)?

Also, I agree with the no foreigners idea.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:23 PM

The MSG show was no different than any other sold out MSG show, whether it's Dave Matthews Band or Phish. This was an obvious PR move to grab attention stolen from the hippy handbook. I agree with the rest, the MSG show is useless now. Fuckin hippys.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:24 PM

dont ever compare lcd to dmb!!!!

also i agree with the no foreigners idea

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:26 PM

10:04 demanding a smaller venue. You work for Knitting Factory, why don't you book them there, huh?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:26 PM

I agree with the no foreigners thing. Also, we shouldn't let blacks in either.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:28 PM

Pearl Jam PR team?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:28 PM

bottom line is the true fans are not being taken care of

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:30 PM

They should play the Weeksville Zion baptist church because Weeksville is the neighborhood in Brooklyn that has the real fans. Williamsburg...that ain't Brooklyn!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:30 PM

Who?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:30 PM

Heads up. You whiny bitches are putting a massive shit stain on what should have been an awesome final show. Not ticketmaster. Not scalpers. You whiney, entitled, pieces of spoiled garbage are ruining it. You are turning a show that should have been a wonderful, memorable send off into a debacle where James feels the need to make it up to you whining white fucks.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:31 PM

Should we make an exception for Egyptians?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:31 PM

10:30 do you agree with the no foreigners idea?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:31 PM

only whiny bitches like this band anyway. lcd soundsystem suck. ive seen them. boooooring.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:32 PM

make williamsburg what you will - but it is where the true fans and the band come from.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:32 PM

10:04 (Matt) here.....never been stalked across BV/FB before but thanks for being creepy enough to make it happen.

Shall I expect a phone call from someone in the next few minutes? Maybe I should cancel my credit card too.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:32 PM

Whoa! Am I a whining white fuck?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:32 PM

MSG scalpers just got owned.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:33 PM

"bottom line is the true fans are not being taken care of"

This is true. I waited in the freezing cold with so many people, because I love their music so much, and was unaware of added shows at Terminal 5. We were the true fans. This was no different than Dave Matthews Band selling out MSG. You're lame James. Fuckin hippies ruin everything.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:34 PM

Why is James always talking in the 3rd person.
Also, I agree with the Egypt exception assuming they dont enact sharia law.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:34 PM

...and the miners from Peru can come, right? The one dude can do some Elvis covers, open the show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:34 PM

true fans were born under the same astrological sign as murphy. all the rest y'all ain't true fans.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:34 PM

I don't think that's how Egyptians get down, they're the other kind of Muslim so we're good.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:36 PM

Real fans ride the ferry. They should have their final shows on Staten Island.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:36 PM

Will trade MSG GA tickets for Terminal 5 tickets!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:37 PM

@10:36 dont make a joke of this - james sold out brooklyn peeps and real fans that waited in the freezing cold.

EDDIE VEDDER > JAMES MURPHY

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:38 PM

I would like to express that if we go with the "no foreigners" idea, there will be no Lebanese people at the show to prepare quality hummus.

Therefore I warn against that proposition.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:39 PM

True fans - who says that? It's LCD Soundsystem.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:39 PM

EDDIE MURPHY > EDDIE VEDDER

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:39 PM

it is worth discussing whether this debacle puts a stain on LCD's legacy...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:40 PM

Your favorite band adds shows - and this is something to be bummed about?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:40 PM

10:04, your demands to cancel MSG and change it to a smaller venue make you sound like an entitled ass. James Murphy wants a big sendoff for the band and planned it for an arena that most bands will NEVER play. Dude wants to go out on his own terms and you're clamoring for him to: a) cancel his dream sendoff show, b) give you your money back, and c) guarantee you a spot at a show at MHow or Bowery.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:41 PM

you spend the first 500 posts trying to get with the plan.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:41 PM

Bath Beach and Mill Basin are up in arms over this Brooklyn snubbing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:42 PM

yeah, no can do then on the foreigner thing. i like to rub hummus on my face when i'm high on e.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:43 PM

So this show sold out right away and everything we heard from everyone including James was "fuck scalpers, screw scalpers, motherless fuck scalpers,..." Yeah, nobody likes scalpers. As someone who goes to 3 or 4 shows a week on average, I don't like them either. The number of tickets sold on scalper websites was not higher than 10% of the capacity of MSG. Is everyone under the illusion that if scalpers bought no tickets, people would be able to get theirs???

If, as he says, James and people around him had no idea this show would sell out fast, how do you figure that scalpers knew that for sure and bought all the tickets risking tens of thousands of dollars?

When a show is in high demand additional shows are almost always added and scalpers know this better than anyone else because they usually eat the tickets they buy when that happens.

This show selling out had nothing to do with scalpers. It turned out to be a very popular show at an unexpected level. Die hard fans wanted to see them one last time and everyone else read about it everywhere and thought they'd take this supposedly last opportunity to see one of the most talked about popular music acts in recent years.

Everybody seems to hate scalpers, yet when a $50 face value ticket is going for $200, I never see a single "fan" on craigslist selling his/her extra tickets for $50. Everybody is a scalper these days. Actually you can be sure that many of the LCD tickets listed on Stubhub are not from professionals, but "fans" who bought tickets with intentions of going and later realized they can actually make some money instead. People are hypocrites and they are always looking for somebody to blame when things don't go their way. In this case those scumbag scalpers are the perfect target for unloading the anger.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:43 PM

"@10:36 dont make a joke of this - james sold out brooklyn peeps and real fans that waited in the freezing cold."

TRUE TRUE. You sold out the hard core fans for that crap venue T5? Did you even think about the fans that bought MSG tickets? Do you read this blog James? No one likes T5 and we settled for that dump last year. When you announced MSG, that sucked too, but we settled. LAME.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:43 PM

The L train should be free / reimbursed by LCD to T5

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:43 PM

Definitely should be free..but you know LCD would never cover that cost...if they did, they would double the price to us as the buyer :(

Posted by Lap97 | February 11, 2011 10:45 PM

When you resort to Pearl Jam PR moves for hype, you lose my respect. At least Eddie Vedder had lasers.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:45 PM

If people in Egypt should read this blog...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:46 PM

Hey 10:43 - Is the L train free for me if I live in Canarsie?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:47 PM

then they may finally know a free nation....

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:47 PM

"If people in Egypt should read this blog..."

...they would be discerned at the lack of quality hummus being served at American rock shows.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:47 PM

Pearl Jam did this in 93, then reunited the following year. I predict the same (without lasers)

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:48 PM

James you rule!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:48 PM

Everyone just shut the fuck up and stop complaining. He can't satisfy everyone - this was a nice and generous move. HES playing FOUR MORE shows for the fans. Fuck off, seriously. Can't wait for my Terminal 5 show(s)

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:48 PM

i'm pretty sure pearl jam did something once..

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:49 PM

What's all this about Eddie Vedder and lasers?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:49 PM

James Murphy does not care about black people

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:49 PM

hipsters are such hypocrites!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:51 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:51 PM

hi vegan people. mubarak here. i arrange one last show at pyramids for ldc soundproject. i hope you make fun.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:52 PM

MSG is cheapened. The GA at MSG sucks compared to Terminal 5. Stubhub always posts tickets at high value right after a sale. This was nothing out of the ordinary. James should have waited till people realized this was nothing special, more tickets would be released and not everyone buys stubhub tickets.

This was all hype. James probably works with Justin Bieber's PR team.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:52 PM

Gonna Sharm El Sheik my booty!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:53 PM

@10:52 everyone agrees with you. only way to salvage this is a Mhow show!!!

you screwed up big.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:57 PM

anyone who says the MSG show is cheapened clearly does not have tickets and was too fucking lazy to get pitchfork presale tix on wednesday. thinking about stretching my shit out over three seats in the loge so i don't get cramped. you snoozed, you loozed.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 10:57 PM

@10:43 (the ranty one)

who says the scalpers/brokers have put up all of their tickets yet?

scalpers take risks that pay off. it's an industry and they are good at it, otherwise there most likely would not be such an industry.

ok, so it's a show with unexpected popularity; let's add some dates so all the fans get to go.

i have sold tickets to sold out shows on craigslist at face value. i have bought tickets to sold out shows on craigslist at face value.

everybody knows everything...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:21 PM

i dont like lcd soundsystem. personally could give a fuck about this show...

but anyone who says GA at MSG sucks is clearly out of their minds. it is incredible ($10 beers be damned).

Old Brooklynvegan comments > New Brooklynvegan comments

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:26 PM

MSG is gonna be empty now, no one is going to pay for anything off the floor when you can go to T5. Only ppl in the venue will be the garden party hipsters.

James Murphy I'm very sorry this just seems like a lose-lose-lose for everyone.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:26 PM

James should reopen Kokies for the real Brooklyn fans.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:31 PM

i also agree no foreigners

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:34 PM

zzzzzzzzzzz this cheapens msg ? pls... you people should listen to yourself. if you waited in the cold for a bit, great, youre going to msg or youre selling your tix for a few hundred bucks. you still win. if you think t5 is better than msg, well than ill tell you now, thats an easy trade.. you should be psyched. if youre like everyone else who wants to see a show, well now you have a chance too.

good move james...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:35 PM

How about we just ban white people from these shows? Then he could have it at Death By Audio and there'd be plenty of elbow room. Just a thought.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:36 PM

11:21pm, I don't claim to know everything, but I know concert ticket-related stuff because seeing concerts is pretty much all I do. Scalpers do list all their tickets right away. If they don't want to sell them right away, they'd list them at ridiculous prices. A super rich person might buy them after all. Especially with the added shows now, you can be sure that most tickets for sale are out there.

I also have bought face value tickets to sold out shows on craigslist, but I wasn't talking about shows like a sold out Best Coast show in Williamsburg. Trying to get rid of hard to sell tickets don't count either. If people are aware of the fact that they can easily sell an extra ticket for $200, they never sell it for face value. A few exceptions do not change the facts.

I wasn't complaining about the added shows either. It's a good thing that more people will be able to go.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:40 PM

this debacle cost me a day of work. i had to take off today bc i couldnt get it together.

now T5 shows make it worse

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:45 PM

I'm complaining about the added shows because I want James all for, me, me, me. It's not fair that these fake fans from Manhattan get to go.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:45 PM

I think next time LCD plays their last show, they're going to handle things a lot better.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:54 PM

i just don't think capital punisment is a deterrent and frankly i think that in today's society we should embrace the right to life no matter what.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 11:56 PM

great move. so happy. see y'all at one of the t5 shows.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:01 AM

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:02 AM

They should play their last show on the Bedford Ave L platform and have that guy who who does Michael Jackson covers open up.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:04 AM

Jack Johnson hangs out on the Bedford L platform, he can open up for them. He can even take over for James.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:14 AM

These handful of shows at T5 are fine and all, but the EVENT is still at the Garden. That's the one getting taped, that's the one with all the surprises and extra-long setlist, and it's the only one people are going to be talking about afterward. Not "show #3 at T5 when they totally rocked it."

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:15 AM

Final show on the rooftop of the Sabra factory.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:16 AM

I just want to know if Liquid Liquid will be playing more shows. I actually care more about them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:16 AM

Couldn't care less. I'm glad their breaking up so I don't have to read about this crap.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:16 AM

1. A show at pitiful Terminal 5 will never match up to a concert at Madison Square Garden. Anyone who says the T5 shows will be better and cancel the MSG show are people who are mad they couldn't get tickets today and will probably miss out in the T5 week.

2. Whether or not the band is from Williamsburg is ok, but do not fucking say that that's where the only "real" fans are from.
- From a "real" fan from Greenpoint.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:19 AM

I hereby declare this day, February 11, LCD Soundsystem day on Brooklyn vegan, every 2/11, we shall only talk about this one band, that started their 2 months of popularity.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:22 AM

those of us from other states actually got off of our lazy asses and bought tons of ticketmaster presale tickets and booked flights and hotel rooms because we're not dumb and bitchy and wake up and realize that we were too busy trying to read our diaries to anyone who would listen in some coffee shop at 10 in the morning.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:23 AM

you fucks who are complaining about waiting in the cold need to get a life. i waited from 6am, got 2 tickets and i'm am elated that i get to see them again with the amount of friends i originally planned on going with (2 dozen)...t5 sux major ballz, but seriously, fuck you. wah wah wah, i lost a day of work. get the fuck over it, you entitled pieces of shit. everyone in the world doesn't exist solely to serve you.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 12:24 AM

The band Kiss also has the same issues with real fans vs. the people who bought their cassettes after the make up came off.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:06 AM

Scalpers will still sell all their tickets to the MSG show and they will buy tickets for the T5 shows which will also sell out. It's a win/win situation for them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:07 AM

if MSG holds 20000 people and only 13000 tickets were sold, who has the other tickets?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:08 AM

Me, I have them, but I'm keeping them all because that's what real fans do.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:09 AM

I never thought I'd be happy to go to a show at T5, but after all this shit, I just want to see LCD one more time, and not have to worry about anything.

they didn't sell the tickets behind the stage, dumbass.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:10 AM

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA FUCKING HILARIOUS....YOU CHUMPS GOT TROLLED SO HARD...HOPE ALL THAT EFFORT TRYING TO GET TIX WAS WORTH IT!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:12 AM

yes scalpers will still sell their tickets, but they won't be able to get as much money for them because of the lessened demand (greater supply).

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:13 AM

yes 1:12 it was worth it. Imagine just for a second the euphoria that I'll feel singing 'Daft Punk is Playing at my House' once last time in a live setting with thousands of others. You can't picture it, can you? I'm dancing too, awkwardly.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:23 AM

James's paperless ticket comments make no sense. MSG has used them for shows plenty. They freeze out scalpers even though people bitch about it like they bitch about everything ticketing and TM. It's the best bad solution, by a long long way. If the band doesn't make a habit of knowing how to buy tickets for shows like this, someone around them should have clued them in. In reality, they knew they could do paperless, misjudged the demand, chose not to do it, and now this is the result. 1:08 asks a good question: God forbid that the sacred industry holds should be revoked. Those deals are set, and no one has enough juice or balls to simply kill them. Yeah, they will release tix from that rancid pile after they have been picked over. That's when the real fans scramble.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:45 AM

Yes, MSG used paperless tickets before, but that became illegal in NY state last summer. Paperless seemed to be a decent way of cutting scalping at first, but people couldn't get rid of their tickets when something else came up and Ticketmaster was also starting to let people scalp them through their own system. They wanted to create a monopoly on secondary markets too. You can complain about people trying to make money reselling tickets, but the biggest evil is promoters lead by the Ticketmaster / Live Nation monster.

THANK YOU bROOKLYN VEGAN for starting the train rolling last week. Overhyping this nonsense to what has happened now

And THANK YOU TO THE KNOW NOTHINGS who comment on here thinking they even have a clue.

It has been a pleasure reading this idiocy

Here is how you know for sure that you are a complete dummy:

-If you think this was just a hot show or hot ticket and not a major scalper pre buy/day of hoarding.

-If you think MSG does not lose it's luster with these added dates(OOh but it's being filmed and im dressed up lol)

-If you think that you won't be able to get tix to the T5 shows or MSG show(even GA) for cheap now week of.

Oh and the debate over which is better T5 or MSG. Hilarious. Like asking what you would rather do. Eat shit off the sidewalk or lick the piss off of it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 2:24 AM

Oh and to the person saying years from now they will be talking about MSG and not T5. Actually you poor idiot they will be talking about the Music Hall show as the one most memorable.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page, licking piss is far better than eating shit, right?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 3:10 AM

2:43, says you schmuck. Good comeback by the way. What's next for you. "I know you are but what am I"

2:50, odds are 100% both week of and day of you can get GA face. Unless of course you want to believe morons like 2:43 who know absolutely nothing. There has not been once concert i have attended at MSG and that includes Arcade Fire, White Stripes, Prince, Roger Waters, etc where I was not able to get GA or a great seat for at most face and sometimes less.

And to the people that think Brooklyn is where the real LCD fans are....go fuck yourselves. It ain't what it used to be and is largely full of worthless whining hipster fucks.

I will be at a T5 show and I will drop a couple hundred bucks on great MSG seats too because that market is going to collapse. Thanks to James for that! Good call given the circumstances.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 6:59 AM

fans had a concern about not being able to get into the show at MSG/and James Murphy listened/ and now you will all be able to see them for the last time.Your last time might be on March 28/29/30/31 ..but it will be the last time for YOU.Bottom line ..the band LISTENED to their fans. All the other stuff being haggled about is petty shit that you will never get an answer to because it's all based on an opinion. And like an asshole..everyone's got one./I believe the people that one should be upset about and put their energy towards is Ticketmaster. They have shown zero amount of accountability in all this. They haven't listened to the fans in that they would respond to what occurred as a debacle within their OWN SYSTEM.Yesterdays ticket sale didn't work because there was no integrity at the SOURCE of it all. And Ticketmaster hides behind the curtain/DOES NOTHING and silently says.. F*ck you.I would be impressed if they made a statement about what happened yesterday .. a statement that spoke the truth...Until then as long as it's an option.. I walk up to the box office and buy my tickets.I stood on line in the cold at the Mercury to get a ticket/ have no regrets about that/ I'm glad everyone's getting a chance to see a great band one last time.I thank James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem for listening.and I 'll do the same and listen to them for a long time to come.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:20 AM

I won't make as much on these as I did on MSG

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:26 AM

Glad to see a band do this for their fans. Can't believe people are still griping about the band and not about TM. How are these added shows going to make MSG less fun? Just b/c you want it to be more exclusive so you can say "I was there?" Shut yr pie hole, you! More shows = more fun

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:47 AM

why is ticketmaster at fault? they sold the allotment given to them. the band is at fault for only selling 13k tix (and btw ticketmaster says they sold only 8k - we still dont know where all the tix are).

meanwhile james is getting paid even more $ for these T5 shows, which cheapen the MSG experience and thus screw over fans who waited outside and screw over people from brooklyn where the real fans are.

this band wouldnt be where they are today if not for the real original fans - and james screwed them.

Finally the end of hipster dancing era.....

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:52 AM

bowery presents are the true scumbags. they are no different than live nation. remember that. dirty people.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:57 AM

These T5 shows do not make sense. MSG sold out so fast because people want to be at the last show. No one cares about the second to last show, or the fifth to last show. People want to be there when the music stops. Any other show but the last is just another concert.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:59 AM

When does the real last show get announced?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 9:09 AM

8:49 it only cheapens the experience if YOU SAY IT DOES.There's nothing being cheapened. YOU MADE THAT UP.You can also MAKE UP THAT YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT FUCKIN' TIME...no matter what the circumstances (Terminal 5)It's all made up.re: tickets...If that's accurate what you say/ that ticketmaster sold what they were given (where did you get that info from?)/my questions are- how do they process all that info (to acquire tix's) in less than 1 minute(or however long it took to be deemed 'sold out')/ and if there are 8k more tickets out there unaccounted for.. well, WHO is accountable for letting us know that information? I'm really asking.. What's missing is accurate information. Without that we're spitting in the wind. And as far as REAL fans/ please/ you happened to be in the right spot at the right time/Thanks for supporting them so they got to where they are now/ but to call yourself real fans is ludicrous and immature.I'm sure there is another band that you like .. that you weren't there for at the beginning. Are you any less of a (real) fan?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 9:10 AM

T5 sux. Shows shoulda been in bklyn but bowery presents only has mhow there which was too small. bowery is evil. james is stupid for listening to bowery. thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 9:17 AM

will this be the last comment?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 9:21 AM

I got tickets waiting in line at the Mercury Lounge, and this announcement doesn't upset me in the least. I might even try to go to a T5 show

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 9:53 AM

So basically , you screwing 1000s of fans, that bought bad seats to the MSG show?

REFUND MSG TICKETS AND HONOR THEM AT T5. FTW!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:18 AM

I'd much rather do my coke at T5 than MSG! Fuck You James, you shitty hippie!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:19 AM

the addition of the T5 shows will not have much impact on the ease or difficulty of getting GA tix for MSG. if you don't have them yet and are not willing to plunk down some ducats, prolly not gonna happen for you. all these people claiming that it's going to be a breeze to get GA for face week of or night of the MSG show are truly delusional. they didn't release that many, and a lot of those that were "released" were scapped up by the scalpers. i'd imagine the remainder of them are in the promoter's, venue's, or band's control for VIPs, guest list, and so on. i wish i was able to get one, believe me, but that's a pipe dream now and i am fine with the seats that i *was* able to get.

after all, MSG is the big blowout "final" show. that's the one i want to be at, not only for the reasons just stated, but b/c T5 fucking sucks donkey dick.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:23 AM

I bought tickets in the 400s for MSG! I'm not a true fan? Thanks for selling out the thousands of fans that bought shitty seats to see you. Never heard of this before, rewarding people for not getting tickets to a show that sold out. The ticket prices would have dropped, and more would be released just like every other sold out MSG show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:25 AM

HONOR MSG TICKETS AT TERMINAL 5

OR

REFUND MSG TICKETS FUCKER!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:26 AM

Enough with the waiting outside in the cold bit. Boohoo. Go look at the SNL standby line some day.

Would have been much better if instead of 4 shows at T5, it was spread out among other venues. Then instead of "I saw show #2 at T5" you could say "I saw the last show at MHOW" etc etc.

Anyway, not a fan and not going to any. But this has been an entertaining and informative read.

Posted by Cuse | February 12, 2011 10:29 AM

10:25 -This has been done before. Pearl Jam did this in the 90s. They reunited a year later.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:31 AM

True 10:29. The venue is key here. Terminal 5 SUCKS! When Pearl Jam used this PR move "for the fans" they added a week of MSG shows. That gave the fans an equal chance at grabbing tickets at the Garden. Everyone was satisfied. James sucks. 4 shows at Terminal 5? A venue that everyone on this blog hates. I guess he is not a regular reader on BV.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:35 AM

James - You sold out your true fans for publicity to hype you bloated ego!

THIS IS ALL HYPE. DONT BELIEVE HIS FAKE SINCERITY THAT THIS IS FOR THE FANS. THE T5 SHOWS WERE ALREADY BOOKED. THIS WAS HIS PLAN SINCE THE BEGINNING TO MAKE MORE MONEY.

MO MONEY! MO MONEY! MO DONUTS FOR JAMES!

Every Hippy band does this PR crap to make themselves more famous than they would be if they tried to earn it by making more than a few records. LCD didn't have it in them. SO they resort to Pearl Jam tactics. LAME decision. You and Eddie Cheddar probably go to the same spa. Fuckin sell outs!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:41 AM

The T5 shows and MSG can be re-incentivized with the announcement of the special guests.

Have one special guest at each T5 show - then have them ALL show up to rock the Garden for a 5hour send-off show.

Special Guests

T501: Liquid Liquid
T502: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
T503: Lady Gaga
T504: The Rapture

T504: Hercules & Love Affair

and thanks for adding the new shows James. Not a fan of T5 by any means - but thrilled to get to see LCD jam one more time w/o being rewarding a scalper's deplorable lifestyle.

though $40 tix? how about $20. and please dont mix "Empire State of Mind" in w "NY I Love You" - that was rough

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:47 AM

Good mix of Williamsburg mustachio'd fuckwads and Jersey poseur-brohams in this thread.

Laughable that you think any successful band would want to close out in a scrub-hall like MHOW surrounded by 550 unsuccessful trust fund babies who bought scalped GA tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:53 AM

ATickets should be $60-$70 (fees inclusive) - the actual market value of the ticket. The only reason scalpers survive is bands underpricing their tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:59 AM

The hummus here is so thick you need a knife to spread it on a pita triangle.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 11:03 AM

One show should be foreigners only. Extra hummus.

-Any other show but the last is just another concert-WRONG LOL WAY TO DELUDE YOURSELF.

-the addition of the T5 shows will not have much impact on the ease or difficulty of getting GA tix for MSG. if you don't have them yet and are not willing to plunk down some ducats, prolly not gonna happen for you-WRONG AGAIN MORON. YOU ARE EITHER A SCALPER TRYING TO KEEP YOUR PRICE UP OR HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A LARGE ARENA SHOW. FUCKING MISINFORMED DUMMY.

Still laughing at the T5 vs MSG comparisons. WAKE UP. Both venues suck.

MONEY MONEY MONEY

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 11:50 AM

I was at Nick's Lobster in Marine Park yesterday eating a squid roll, when I got to talking to my waitress about LCD Soundsystem. She told me that she loves them and that she first heard them via a ringtone of 'Drunk Girls' at the Verizon cart in the King's Plaza Mall. I rolled my eyes when she told me this and left an eleven percent tip that I calculated on my new iphone. When she confronted me about my 'apparent lack of class' as she said, I told her that she can't be a fan of Sir James Murphy because real, true original fans would not live in Marine Park, Brooklyn where one has to ride the bus to commute.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 11:50 AM

why are people complaining about these added shows if they already have MSG tix??

you're still going to their last show! they never said anything about that show being the only nyc area show or anything! all they said was that it was their last show. they've done nothing wrong in adding more dates.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 11:51 AM

T5 is the appropriate place to have a funeral bc it is such a depressing venue. it sucks. agree - shows shoulda been in brooklyn.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 11:54 AM

This site is called BROOKLYN vegan for a reason - brooklyn is at the forefront of the scene and made all these bands - there would be no DFA if not for the brooklyn fans that got screwed.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 11:55 AM

so I blacked out last night for no reason? Fuck.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 11:56 AM

Yeah, why not the Brooklyn Masonic Temple? Oh yeah because it's not in Williamsburg and the mean security guards yell at me when I stand on the grass.

I think the last piece of this puzzle is to release the seats behind the stage at MSG. Take a look at the venue map on stubhub for the show and you can see how much is not being used. I was taken back a bit in his message that said there were only 13K seats. Bands like Phish sell out the whole arena, and those that end up with seats behind the stage end up with seats behind the stage. It will def bring prices down - no question, and open up the show to a lot more people. Thoughts?

Posted by sushi roll | February 12, 2011 12:37 PM

We should have a sit in at the entrance to MSG until our demands are met.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:01 PM

"please dont mix "Empire State of Mind" in w "NY I Love You" - that was rough"

-I totally agree. That was so lame. This time around it's going to be "Losing My Edge" mixed with "Paparazzi."

Gawd, a gaggle of you chumps have already bought tickets off ebay.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:08 PM

The amount of buzz and excitement around these shows is incredible. LCD is hugely popular right now. Congrats to the who LCD Soundsystem machine. You deserve it.

Be gone James. You're old, fat and useless.

Bottom line - the Terminal 5 shows were booked way before hand. I work there, I know. Lame move, James.

Hippies...hipsters...they both suck.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:48 PM

T5 was booked but as a rehearsal run. He's now making tickets open a little earlier to make people happier. James rules and has been nothing but trying in all of this. Good for him and them going out on a high note.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:50 PM

LCD T5 tickets are now available on craigslist and stubhub.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:51 PM

Both T5 and MSG are lousy venues for electronic bands like LCD. This whole hype machine sucked since it started.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 1:58 PM

323 comments of pure crap. This band blows worse than their fanbase.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 2:03 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 2:05 PM

oh please, terminal 5 sucks! come on!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 2:06 PM

Man, all of you are such whiny fuckheads. No matter what they did you'd be upset. WAHHHH, there are no more MSG tickets. Now its WAHHHH its a terminal 5.

Do you all realize that MSG is a busy facility (that is also going under renovation). Its not easy to find a date to book there. So its impossible to have a whole fucking week of shows because of that.

I know T5 sucks, but its better than being at no show at all. Buy your tickets there, enjoy and just shut the fuck up.

All of you faggots sound so self-entitled and spoiled. Really its getting old.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 2:07 PM

Eddie Vedder will be opening for LCD at one of the T5 shows under the name - the other douchebag.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 2:07 PM

I still want to know what happened to the 8000 tickets that never went on sale for MSG! What kind of scam was that? They did not sell out the Garden. This is official. What was the point, to sell out 4 Terminal 5 shows? I don't get the connection?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 2:09 PM

wouldn't surprise me if they sell out the T5 shows then "release" extras for msg. looking on stubhub or fansnap there are hardly any tickets on there in the loge (which might be being held for guest list for now) and none in the 300s at the very back

This thread is a perfect example of what's sent our country down the shitter.. Entitled people who don't mind telling other people what they should do, and yet don't really do anything themselves.
We used to make things. Now we just push paper around.
America's chief export is "complaints". Who gives a fuck if you go to a rock show or not? I may attend one of these shows, but I'm a little worried I'll be surrounded by people who TAKE LIFE WAY TOO SERIOUSLY and that doesn't sOund like a great way to experience LCD SOundsystem. We are north American scum, rapidly losing our edge.

I know for a FACT, with 100% certainty that everything James Murphy wrote is COMPLETE BULLSHIT. They expected Madison Square Garden to sell out quickly but not as fast. These Terminal 5 shows were going to be added as soon as MSG sold out, NO MATTER WHAT. Yeah, that's right James...I can out your whole bullshit in a second if you want references. Disgusting. It almost seems so unbelievably diabolical but the scalper help and resale ticket prices definitely aided the cause, huh? So happy some of your "fans" are starting to see right through the horse shit. Enjoy your miserable life.

It's all James Murphys. My plumber, who also goes by the name James Murphy, and is also a foreigner from the old country by the way, promised to replace my old hot water heater for $540. Then I learned that he sub-contracted out for $1800, a cost passed on to me while he replaced four other heaters before me for $400. They're all jerks.

Haven't heard that word used in this context since the Taking Back Sunday high school days. Can't wait for all the young cockheads in Williamsburg to get priced out and robbed in Bushwick.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 3:36 PM

It's not really that fishy that T5 had those dates open two months in advance. Look at any Bowery Presents venues, there's tons of gaping holes on their calendars.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 4:29 PM

Can anybody prove these shows were already booked before the MSG debacle? @2:53 you sound full of shit and have no references. If LCD aren't for you than why waste your energy?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 4:37 PM

Eddie Cheddar

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 4:39 PM

Who is Eddie Cheddar?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 4:55 PM

Bitterness all around---who cares? It's just a band. You people would bitch if you were hanged by a new rope.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 5:19 PM

"Peter Criss of Kiss fame is originally from Williamsburg. True fans think 'Beth' is the best song ever."

He's from Greenpoint. His sister used to bartend at Kingsland Tavern and his folks had an electronics business on Greenpoint Ave. He wouldn't wipe his ass with Williamsburg.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 5:22 PM

People are bitching bc they were played

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 5:23 PM

^

No they weren't---they still get to go to the final show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 6:03 PM

@ 5:22 - you should fix his wikipedia page then

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 6:08 PM

you people would bitch no matter what

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 7:02 PM

got tickets to every show already and the msg show

Terminal 5 - the only club where the VIP section sucks worse than the floor. lulz!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 7:34 PM

James Murphy's such an egomaniac. This entire frenzy is to feed his ego and make more money off the fans. Happy retirement you fat turd!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 7:37 PM

I'm selling 2 GA/MSG tickets- klaferty@gmail.com

I'd rather hit a Terminal 5 show again. This was a disgracful ending to a good band.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 7:41 PM

My friend at bowery presents told me about the T5 shows before this mess. If I liked this band, I would have wrote in sooner. Lame PR scheme if you ask me.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 7:46 PM

REFUND ALL SEATS AT MSG OR HONOR THEM AT T5!

RETIRE WITH CLASS AND APPRECIATION FOR YOUR FANS. DON'T FUCK THEM OVER.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 7:49 PM

Hey James, don't wear the white t shirt at these shows. You've already fucked this "retirement" show up. You don't have to look like you don't care too. Stay classy, James.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 7:58 PM

Why is the band not acknowledging the thousands of fans that bought crappy seats to the MSG show? Seriously, I'm not a hater. It's a legitimate question. Anyone can get into T5. Thousands wasted money on those seats. I don't think anyone wanted to see an electronic dance band at MSG.

What a douche!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:01 PM

Why did this happen? James, I'm sorry about exposing your scam. We all made a shitload of money. I'm sorry I gave all the numbers in my craigslist post., but I can't take it anymore. You hurt me. Call me. We need to talk. 646 469 7111.

Julie :)

Posted by Tommy Tu Tone (Julie) | February 12, 2011 8:08 PM

Julie.... you and James are seriously not cool and don't care about TRUE FANS. I've know u both for years, and this is not okay. How much did you say? 600k?

I also agree with the no foreigners idea.

Posted by Lisa | February 12, 2011 8:10 PM

Why?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:12 PM

Makes me sad.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:14 PM

Is it really rock and roll?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:15 PM

niggas like hummus?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:45 PM

Let's just get the scalpers back the old-fashioned way. Everyone who reads this should reply to at least one ad (preferably more) on Craigslist. Bait the scalper. Talk them down a little bit. Settle on a price. Schedule a meeting spot. Then you can a) not show up or b) pick Union Square and keep "accidentally" giving the incorrect corner you're at. You can surf the web and misdirect them at the same time if you are on an AT&T iPhone.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:45 PM

We just need to calm down a little bit and share in a bowl of hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 8:55 PM

Anyone with specific info from a friend at bowery presents or whatever should post it on the lcd message board and email the lefsetz letter about it. It should be exposed that James is full of it and actually created this situation.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 9:08 PM

Has anyone made a hummus joke yet? I'm too lazy to read through all of these comments.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 9:28 PM

Is there any solid proof about this FEB 18th date of tickets for the T5 shows going on sale?

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 9:44 PM

Who gives a shit about this hipster friendly band!?

Thank fucking god this era of hipster non-sense dancing area to shitty music is over!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2011 10:33 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 1:10 AM

James Murphy is In the words of jersey shores ronnie "the fakest person ever"

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 2:30 AM

but...youre all fools if u think this is really the end of the band. there will be a reunion in 4 years tops. its so obvious..hes not that old and nothing else will bring in the $ like LCD. the bullshit acts on DFA dont exactly millions of records.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 3:50 AM

Barry Manilow was born and raised in Williamsburg.

@2:30, if you can quote Jersey Shore I am pretty sure you took your own title

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 8:04 AM

What time does Daft Punk go on?

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 10:31 AM

Stop bashing on james. There are worse people in the music business.

This is an updated link -- stuff happened since that BV article: http://nysbar.com/blogs/EASL/2010/07/reselling_tickets_in_new_york.html

It's hard to argue with that

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 11:39 AM

is lcd really on colbert tomorrow night?

hopefully Stephen nails him for this bs

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 12:14 PM

@12:14 Shut your ignorant mouth. Colbert Report uses the same strategy as terminal 5 so people do not scalp the show's tickets. Now go write some obscure delusional poetry.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 12:33 PM

Pathetic hipsters bashing each other....

I hope there's more LCD posts in the future!

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 12:43 PM

I can't wait for the 'New York I Hate You, But You're Making Me Rich' encore.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 1:02 PM

Because James Murphy really made a deal with Ticketmaster for tickets to go on sales 7 minutes later so no one could get them...what bullshit...it's ridiculous...and if there were T5 shows being talked about before MSG went on sale...who cares...maybe they were not announced for a reason...yes there are truly evil people in the music business, James is not one of them...also they blow your favorite band away live so quit your bitching...maybe they don't want to sell tickets for people seated behind them cause it sucks to sit there...

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 4:08 PM

I have an idea -- boycott NYC.

What a waste of a once important and evocative city.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 4:32 PM

this thread is drying up. can it survive to 500 comments??

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 4:52 PM

It can

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 5:14 PM

we want 500!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 7:00 PM

are all LCD SS fans whiners? holy christ.

and does anyone else find it odd that the terminally busy Terminal 5 just happened to have four completely wide open dates just before the MSG date???

what serendipity!

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 7:32 PM

You know, cause Terminal 5 doesn't have anything booked and announced for the last two weeks of March (but has shows booked later). OMG IT MUST BE A CONSPIRACY. You nutsacks make Birthers look relevant.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 9:14 PM

^^^^ big venues like t5 dont have shows every night like smaller clubs do.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 9:49 PM

T5 had five open dates before LCD, until Cut/Copy ate up Friday after selling out Saturday. Sometimes leaving a few dates open works out for the venue if they can't book an act they know will sell out for a premium price. Also, if James/LCD really were in it for the $ here, they would have A) charged more for tickets to MSG instead of playing for extra nights and B) would have done more of a farewell tour, with at least a West Coast version of the funeral.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2011 9:57 PM

i was bummed all weekend not being able to get tickets and i just got home and saw this and it completely made my day. i could care less if its the last show so long as i can see them 1 more time. thanks mr murphy

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:11 AM

It amazes me how many cynical bastards come onto a blog that they notably dislike - and cleverly write the word hummus in every other sentence (because that joke is totally original!)and spend time writing about bands that are a "waste of their time." Grow up. You clearly care because you take the time out to express it and if you keep coming to a site you don't agree with and write about how much you "don't care and... hummus hummus, James Murphy has weight on him omg, because he actually eats something other than hummus... hummus." The band isn't in it for the dough or the bullshit that surrounds the corruption in the music industry, and that is precisly why they are getting the fuck out and calling it quits. Yeah, it might not be for good, and maybe they will play again in the future but for now they say no more. Are they to sign a contract that commits them to no more musical performances ever? They are musicians, of course they may indulge again. They expressed themselves, made the music they wanted to, found a following of people who can appreciate it and they tip their hats to the rest if they want to nay-say or make up the most absurd conspiracy theories. To make the claim that ANY band is trying to cash in by calling for an early retirement is a bold statement, and is just fucked up. Sincerely fucked up. You have all experienced the relationship you have as a fan to a great band you enjoy, and they appreciate you in a way that can't be explained because, your support is what makes them the band they are. They wouldn't exploit you in that way. If they are good people, which LCD happen to be. Not everyone in the world is that fucking corrupt.. it's music. Nothing more, nothing less. Embrace it or discard it- but move past it because LCD has. Hummus. ;)

Let your angry commentary begin from this that I write. Although I only hoped to hault those comments have people think twice before being such shallow thinkers themselves.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 3:10 PM

"No one over 35 should be able to buy tickets?" Oh, I can't wait til you're "old," you sniveling idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 3:11 PM

I am still wincing from all those spins of whatever LCD's last album is called. I played it a lot and could only conclude it was the worst new album of about 100 new albums that I heard in 2010.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 3:14 PM

so happy i'm under 35.
show 1: Brooklyn only
show 2: manahattan and foreigners
show 3: sabra employees, mamouns employees, mubarek, all pets, todd p, and eddie cheddar.
show 4: 35 and overs

3:11, "you sniveling idiot" - hahahaha. I'm old, thanks for the laugh.
