LCD Soundsystem @ MHOW (more by Tim Griffin)

it's the end of an era as lcd soundsystem confirms an april 2 extravaganza at new york city's madison square garden that will be both its first time headlining the storied arena and the final, definitive and ultimate lcd live show.

billed as lcd soundsystem: the long goodbye, this three-hour farewell performance will be the lengthiest most career-spanning set the band has ever played. those attending can expect the return of long dormant deep cuts to the lcd setlist as well as the first (and last) live performances of a number of never-before-played music spanning lcd soundsystem's decade-defining albums lcd soundsystem, sound of silver, this is happening, the acclaimed 45:33, and more.

lcd soundsystem: the long goodbye will see james murphy and company going out both on top and on their own terms: as the ultimate lcd live performance in both senses of the word, the show will see the lcd core live band of murphy, pat mahoney, nancy whang, al doyle, gavin russom, tyler pope and matt thornley augmented by a choir, string and horn sections plus contributions and collaborations from both one-time-only special guests and many of the musicians with whom the band has worked over the years.

lcd soundsystem: the long goodbye will cap a banner touring cycle that has seen the band play historic headlining sets at the hollywood bowl, pitchfork, V, wireless and more, from their native nyc to korea to the stretch of south american dates currently underway.

the members of lcd soundsystem will be observing a black and white clothing only dress code for the long goodbye. They respectfully request that the audience do the same.

nyc post-rock pioneers liquid liquid will open the show. further details and special guests will be announced as they are confirmed (or maybe they'll just show up that night).

tickets for lcd soundsystem: the long goodbye will be on sale february 11th. [press release]

They also previously promised a February 8th presale. Bowery has announced that tickets will cost $49.50 and $35. UPDATE: Tickets and presale times are on Ticketmaster.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 11:41 AM

This shit spectacle at the terrible sounding arena is getting more laughable each day. By the time April 2 comes it will be so over hyped to make it an even bigger disaster.

Reading the above press release and some of the ridiculous comments I am reminded of a few famouse phrases namely

"There's a sucker born every minute"

"A fool and his money are easily parted"

Idiots the lot of you.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 11:42 AM

The last time to have fun in my life???

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 11:54 AM

LOLPatDabney!

wonder if there will be fire shards available

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 11:54 AM

cheapskates....heheh

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 11:54 AM

40 bucks to see a great band for the last time live ever and witness what will be an amazing party at that is basically a bargain when you consider it costs the same amount for 3 Red Stripes at some shitty Bushwick bar that leaves you with barely a buzz and judgemental eyes from the locals based on your wardrobe.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:09 PM

I really like LCD Soundsystem but let's step outside the echo chamber for a second here. "End of an era?" LCD was a great band but I don't think the "trilogy" (UGH) is ever going to be considered a legendary run or anything like that. This sendoff just seems disproportionate to what the band actually accomplished.

Posted by This Is Pushingit | February 7, 2011 12:11 PM

I can't wait for this! I wonder if its going to be the whole place or just the floor section?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:15 PM

Its a bit of an overindulgent send off, 12:11, but I do think that their legacy is going to be looked upon very positively in a "I wish I was around to the see that" way much like we look at a band like Talking Heads.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:15 PM

tonight's gonna be a good night

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:20 PM

""There's a sucker born every minute""

um, clearly you've never been to an LCD show. This is worth every ounce of hype it's getting. And I'm glad you don't think so because that's one more seat available for someone who realizes the truth.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:20 PM

I have a love/hate thing with these big send-off shows. I love how it's such a big happenin' event, but I hate how there's so much pressure to have fun and have the time of your life that there's always room for disappointment. Anyone else feel this way?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:22 PM

12:15 -- Comapring LCD to Talking Heads in any matter is f--king absurd!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:22 PM

nothing will ever be the same.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:25 PM

12:22, it's not really absurd at all actually

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:26 PM

@ 11:42 Doesn't it get exhausting being so jaded?

@ 12:15 Have you heard "Us v. Them?"

Posted by Scott | February 7, 2011 12:27 PM

Its absurd because the Talking Heads are garbage.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:28 PM

@11:42 Is the super fun dude at parties, every time.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 12:28 PM

same as it ever was

Whoever misses out on this very, special opportunity see Mumfords and his Sons play their final show in NYC of all places in the world is a fool! It should cost $250 for this Mumfords sendoff but they're being nice and only charging $35! You hipsters will never be happy, no matter how much your trustfundarians are worth! GO TO HELL!

12:20
12:27
and the COMPLETE CLUELESS FOOLS comparing LCD Soundsystem to Talking Heads are the reasons why this not deserving the hype disaster letdown will sell out.

They are also the reasons the music industry pumps out so much crap these days.

Oh and for the record I am 11:42 and I have seen LCD many more times than you(Studio B, Bowery, Music Hall and Angel Orensantz to name a few). Not to mention much more fun than you and not jaded at all. Just not caught up in hype and realize shows at MSG SUCK

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 1:45 PM

12:20/12:27/1:45, I'm happy for ya and I'mma let you finish but LCD SOUNDSYSTEM WILL HAVE THE BEST SHOW AT MSG OF ALL TIME... OF ALL TIME!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 1:57 PM

Hey 1:45, I'm 12:15 and ya know, just shut up because you don't know what you're talking about. The most influential niche bands out there are often the ones who put out only a handful of albums and call it a day during their prime: TALKING HEADS, My Bloody Valentine, for example. Weezer was looked at in a similar light before they came back in 2001. I think LCD Soundsystem can do the same thing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 2:03 PM

12:15/2:03

You are a know nothing idiot. I would give a more detailed response in explaining that but what would be the point. Dismissed moron.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 2:17 PM

You're both morons, especially since both of you have no idea about how the Ting Tings are the only band who've created original music in the past 20 years.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 2:23 PM

Bad Religion and Rise Against at T5 (5/5 and 5/6) BITCHES!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 2:24 PM

Hah ok 2:17, aka your response is a cop out for "I don't have a good enough response to defend myself so therefore I'm going to say that I do but it isn't worth my time."

12:15/2:03 - 2. 1:45/2:17 - 0

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 2:26 PM

So will James Murphy start sucking and riding a bicycle in the same way David Byrne did after his tenure in the Heads?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 2:28 PM

^ Can I see the David Byrne thing you mentioned in youtube form?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 3:20 PM

Vegan, why are you blocknig comments on this thread? Censorship much

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 3:46 PM

Talking Heads were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and routinely cited as one of the most infulential bands of all time. A Niche band you called them?

Now you are dismissed, moron 12:15/2:03

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 3:53 PM

You know who else was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? ABBA.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 4:00 PM

ugh...this clearly isnt the true end of the band. calm down people. hell never make as much $ w/any new project as he has with LCD. there will be shows again in the next few years. he's not old, its not like he cant handle it or something.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 4:00 PM

@4:00 ill be laughing when you are wrong

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 4:04 PM

Haha, 4:00pm with the ABBA comment just PWND you for me, 3:53. I think you're the one who's dismissed. You think you're a step ahead -- we're five more before you know it. Get outta here.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 4:27 PM

@427, PWND? Ahh i see it now. You are like 16 years old? No wonder you are a complete moron who thinks the ABBA comment dissmissed anything. LOl stupid shithead

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 4:46 PM

anyone who thinks talking heads are irrelevant or sub-par in any way really needs their head (and ears) examined, and has shit credibility, to boot. fact.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2011 5:16 PM

this is the end of music.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 10:33 AM

How can anyone hate this show? Its only 35 and 50 for who knows what, and many of us spend a lot more than that going to shitty bars and clubs on the weekend. And most of us will go to shitty bars and clubs AFTER the show. The last time...

Posted by james | February 9, 2011 9:47 AM

You can hate the show, 'james,' because MSG/Ticketmaster has an unholy alliance with ticket resellers which fucks everyone else.

It was nice to release at least some tickets via Mercury Lounge, but except for that small minority, everyone else will have to deal with a very corrupt ticket selling system where the only way to get anything decent is to know someone at the Garden or spend $1,000.

So most of their fans will now see them for the last time as tiny dots in the distance while spending $8 on beer.

I mean, I agree with the band. Better they retire then become the kind of dinosaur rock stars that perpetrate shows like this.

Posted by Anonymous | February 9, 2011 11:29 AM

Ticket master is a total rip off adding an additional 20% + to the product is a royal rip off, just because most people cant get tickets somewhere else doesn't give them the right to rip people off just like that.
