Neko Case

Neko Case and Lost In The Trees are playing the sold-out Bell House in Brooklyn tonight/Sunday (pics coming), but on Saturday night (2/5), the pair's tour brought them a different NY venue - the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center in Long Island. That show was not sold out, but not empty either.

Neko and her band sounded excellent as they played a 21 song, 75 minute set to a seated crowd. Neko seemed to be enjoying herself and joked continuously with back up vocalist Kelly Hogan between songs, much to the delight of the audience. The full list of songs they played is below.

Lost In The Trees were also very impressive and despite Ari Picker's weakened voice (cold/hoarseness) he still sounded wonderful, as did their gorgeous arrangements. Don't forget you can catch them Monday at Mercury Lounge.

More pictures from the LI show, with Neko's setlist, below...

Remember when Neko kind of used to be a babe? She looks like Hell here.

There are a lot of homely looking folks on that stage...

I forgot, we only respect women if they're attractive.

is that a tattoo on her forearm? never noticed that before. must be part of her hard/soft persona.

Marc Ribot played with her for a few songs at the Bell House show.

I don't think a performer (male or female) shows much respect for their audience when they show up looking like they never bathe or comb their hair and like they get their clothes from a dumpster.

Shitty venue with even shitty'r lighting. And Ya! 4 shots of the merchandise table!

Fashion critics be trolling.

I was privilaged to have been there at this past Neko Case concert at WHBPAC and I'll agree yes, her attire wasn't the best, but does that alone make a performer?? NO!!
I am commenting on someone who posted a comment on Neko's appearence earlier on the 7th of Feb. I certainly hope not!! I didn't know there was a "dress code" for one who is a performer. I do NOT believe that one's appearence/attire in TRULY indicative of one's personality or in this case, respect - self directed or otherwise (maybe this individual needs to learn some people reading or body language skills?). Just because one performs in Westhampton does not in itself require a "dress code!"
Now, for the issue on the rest of her appearence... whether or not she bathed or combed her hair, does that really matter??!! Now, I am a bit of a hygene nut, but I don't think One's appearence - and that's exactly what we are referring to here... is NOT a strike against them. Now, you fools who comment on such trivial stuff, TRULY do NOT know music and wouldn't know it if it bit you in the backside! As for the Venue... being "shitty" - maybe you need to get a grip on yourself as to what's a "shitty" venue... All I can say is WOW... NEVER ever have I heard this one before - at least, not for this venue - and I go to a LOT of concerts. WHBPAC is one of the best venues around!! Maybe you, the person who made that idiotic venue comment, need to get out more and do not be so quick to judge!
I'll say, aside from the pissing contest here... Neko Case put on one helluva show! AS did the warm up band, Lost in The Trees! WHBPAC and it's volunteers as well as staff, did a fabulous job! Maybe the negative comments that were directed at both Neko Case and the venue were from the fools that had either an issue with the venue or maybe, just maybe... some "mis-directed" anger issue?? Thanks again for a great show!!
