MSG

To quote James Murphy:

"we tried getting another day at msg. i'd mentioned this before and most everyone kind of rolled their eyes at me. "2 madison square garden shows, dude? really?" i thought, well, just in case, you know? maybe some people would fly from other places or something. but msg, being one of the most popular venues on the planet, was unsurprisingly booked. (for the record: just because it doesn't look booked on the internet, doesn't mean it's available. just saying.)"
According to the Internet (see Internet screen shot above), MSG looks booked on every day of the LCD T5 shows, and it looks booked the day after. The only day it 'doesn't look booked' is April 1 (the Theater doesn't count). Big announcement coming soon? (yes).

UPDATE: according to the comments, this post is making some people think I'm hating or calling James Murphy a liar. Actually, it's just the opposite.

They often "book" shows long before they announced them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 11:54 AM

There are rumors MSG is held for The Strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 11:54 AM

i smell a conspiracy!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 11:54 AM

you do realize it may be booked and not showing the concert because a band playing that night has not released their tour schedule, right? real investigative reporting there. nice job!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 11:55 AM

supposedly it's the strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 11:55 AM

if you think they are playing MSG on 4/1 that is not going to happen

the meadowlands on the other hand, let's just say keep your eyes peeled... this is going to be one of the biggest fuck yous to scalpers in the history of scalping

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 11:55 AM

"you do realize it may be booked and not showing the concert because a band playing that night has not released their tour schedule, right? "

That was sort of the point of the post, so yes.

Posted by brooklynvegan | February 14, 2011 11:57 AM

da stwokes!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 11:58 AM

This is getting so old FAST, can't wait til this show is over already

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 11:58 AM

The Strokes better not be holding that day, it's bad enough I'm missing LCD 'cos I'm out of town, I will punch things if I miss them too.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 11:59 AM

"Announcement coming soon?"

Do you mean an announcement about another LCD show, or some other band? The tone of this post makes it kinda hard to pin down the ultimate point.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:00 PM

Didn't he just say "just because it doesn't look booked on the internet, doesn't mean it's available." Maybe that day is needed to convert the basketball court configuration to an end-stage concert set-up for that comedy show?

Posted by M | February 14, 2011 12:01 PM

^^^ patience

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:01 PM

it definitely doesn't mean another LCD show is being announced.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:02 PM

Oh never mind... I see that comedy show is at the Theater at MSG.

Well, whatever.

I hate LCD Soundsystem anyway. I don't even know why I'm commenting!

Posted by M | February 14, 2011 12:02 PM

Shame on you BrooklynVegan for trying to call James a liar after the way he stepped up to the plate.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:02 PM

I heard from a reliable source that Creed and Nickelback have that date reserved for all the LCD fans who couldn't get into the 4/2 show. A nice trade off if you ask me.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:03 PM

"Shame on you BrooklynVegan for trying to call James a liar after the way he stepped up to the plate."

not the point... wait for it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:04 PM

the strokes with special guests- LCD soundsystem

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:05 PM

What comedy show? Oh, the Jokes...I mean Strokes...I mean who cares about a band with a passe sound representing the late 70's and subsequently early-2000's....sad!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:05 PM

^is no one getting what BV means by this post? i thought it was pretty obvi

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:05 PM

"you do realize it may be booked and not showing the concert because a band playing that night has not released their tour schedule, right? "
That was sort of the point of the post, so yes.

if thats the case theres probably a better way to present the story. after reading the post and the horrible comments brooklynvegan kind of comes across as haters. obviously you cant control the comments. i think i would have put something up there about the Strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:06 PM

Can you please write more about LCD Soundsystem? Fuckin hell get over it already

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:06 PM

RADIOHEAD WILL PLAY 4/1!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:07 PM

wadiohead, my favowite!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:08 PM

james said in his note that they asked about 4/1 and it was actually booked..i believe him. lets stop with the bullshit and move on

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:08 PM

THERE IS GOING TO BE AN ANNOUNCEMENT OF A HUGE SHOW THERE ON 4/1, not LCD. no one is calling anyone a liar.

End of story.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:10 PM

I'll wait till all the heat dies down from this saga. In the end, fun will be had by all.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:10 PM

eff LCD and the strokes, i'm going to see the Hot 97 April Fools Comedy Show!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:12 PM

will it be the strokes or radiohead?

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:13 PM

OK, so... if I understand correctly, this post is not at all about LCD. It only mentions JM's post to draw attention to the open date at MSG, and to get people buzzing about who it might be booked by. Which speculation so far suggests Strokes, Radiohead, Creed & Nickelback (/jk), and I'm going to throw in "your mom."

There.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:14 PM

Again, BV IS NOT SAYING LCD SOUNDSYSTEM IS PLAYING MSG ON 4/1. HE IS SAYING THAT ANOTHER BAND OF INTEREST MIGHT BE.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:18 PM

" It only mentions JM's post to draw attention to the open date at MSG"

thank you.

Posted by brooklynvegan | February 14, 2011 12:18 PM

Strokes with LCD opening would be a major fuck u to scalpers.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:19 PM

why in the hell would LCD open for the strokes? that's not happening.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:20 PM

So where else will the band playing 4/1 play when scalpers end up with all those tickets?

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:26 PM

^If it's Daft Punk, the answer is obvious.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:31 PM

4/1....I WAS THERE

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:34 PM

Either way, good opportunity to show up to whoever is playing 4/1 and then hide out in MSG overnight to sneak into LCD on 4/2.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:38 PM

imagine how fast radiohead would sell-out a single night at MSG... OMG

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:39 PM

The Strokes could not fill MSG even when they were popular. They played the smaller theater downstairs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:40 PM

ok BV, you're really milking this LCD "news"

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:41 PM

death from above 1979 opening for soundgarden

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:46 PM

Go Rangers!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:47 PM

Letters to Cleo reunion??

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:52 PM

12:41, relax. This is awesome. Ever since the ticket debacle, music news here has been nuts and entertaining. Arcade Fire brought it up a notch, then Radiohead blew it into the stratosphere this morning. This is probably going to be the best week/weekend for music news this year. I love it. People are talking, wagging their dicks out in the open air and stroking them and having a good time. Appreciate it while you can.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:53 PM

Strokes GA presale at Mercury Lounge tomorrow 10am, the line has already formed and currently spans the Williamsburg Bridge.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:53 PM

Duh! It's Arcade Fire w/ The National

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:53 PM

edna's goldfish reunion at MSG on 4/1. buy tickets in mike park's garage 10am on Friday.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:57 PM

This is what i'd call a NON-STORY

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:58 PM

It's Aerosmith & Killdozer.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 12:59 PM

12:53, comments like yours are the reason I'm dicking around here and not working.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:00 PM

^I mean the "GA presale" 12:53.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:01 PM

Strokes fans on the bridge are not acknowledging the bike lane.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:04 PM

no one acknowledges the bike lane. it's only there so that bikers have a reason to bitch out pedestrians and feel better about themselves

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:07 PM

The brooklyn bridge bike lane is even worse, because each tourist is the size of 2-3 hipsters.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:17 PM

I love you guys.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:30 PM

i like to stand in the bike lane with my camera phone in hand. nothing gets a biker's goat quite like the ol' camera phone in the bike lane bit.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:31 PM

Back on topic, guys, who does everyone think is the mystery April Fool's Day band?

Daft Punk?
Radiohead?
Rolling Stones?
The Strokes?
No Age?
Cosby?

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:36 PM

Duh....it's Mumford and Sons!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:37 PM

BV is saying pretty clearly that as James Murphy has said, MSG is BOOKED for 4/1. Its booked for another band. This booking is going to be very big news, VERY SOON.

RADIOHEAD IS PLAYING MSG ON 4/1.

Do you understand now, morons?

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:44 PM

They're also doing 4 extra shows in the bike lane of the williamsburg bridge.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:50 PM

12:53pm, on that topic, how big is yours? (or anyone else on here for that matter)

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:52 PM

Oh no, my fixed gear has no brakes

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:52 PM

what is more important the knicks or LCD?

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:56 PM

Duh, the Knicks

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 1:58 PM

James Murphy could dunk on the knicks all day long.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:00 PM

James Murphy is taking his talents to Madison Square Garden.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:01 PM

what the hell happened to this site??

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:05 PM

Hey 2:05, why don't you go jump off the Williamsburg Bridge and take a fixed-gear bicycle with you! (But don't splash on any of those Stroke fans!)

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:07 PM

If I'm any indication, it's been overrun by gawker commenters who are defecting from the shitty redesign.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:10 PM

2:05, Arcade Fire won the Grammy for Best Album last night which led a flood of new mainstreamipsters into the BV comment board so they could discover what they've been missing all these years. Thank you, Grammys!

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:16 PM

hey 2:07, you're missing the point entirely, which is not a surprise. Get your head out of your ass...you don't even know what the hell you are talking about, which is also not a surprise.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:16 PM

It is so unfair that Strokes fans get fifty degree weather while I almost froze to death at the LCD presale. James Murphy is to blame.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:18 PM

2:16, yes!!!!!
Especially since 2:07 has no idea what the hell he is talking about since he/she's basically ragging on the shit that is on his/her itunes since they are a bandwagon jagoff.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:19 PM

1:44, i do not understand :(

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:43 PM

Anon 2:16 has dinner reservations tonight....for one.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 2:45 PM

Where in all of this does the writing on the wall say Radiohead is playing? Couldn't it feasibly be any other big band? I wouldn't make such a big deal out of this if its The Strokes since its a given they're touring and playing mostly every major fest.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 3:03 PM

I got tickets in the pitchfork presale. I felt special. Now I am not special.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 3:14 PM

Raise your hand if you're a white kid with no job and no friends commenting on here? Holy shit what's happened to this site?

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2011 3:35 PM

Meeeeh, T5 sucks, hummus, What time is Daft Punk going on.

That basically rounded up the sense of humour on this board.

Wow.
