LAYDOWN OPENING

DEDICATING NOTHING COMPARES 2u TO Bobby Z Prince said
" A lot of people helped me along the way, Bobby was one of them Recover soon Bobby"

Medley portion...Prince was very into the crowd. Unlike last time...Prince teases us with the songs but actually responded to the crowds reaction and played the ones that got the big reaction...He:
Sang one full verse of Sign of the Times
One full verse of Alphabet Street
Two full verses of I would Die 4U
Two Full verses of Pop Life
First verse of When Doves Cry
Started Forever in My Life...but stopped (didnt get strong reaction)
Played "Single Ladies by Beyonce for two minutes while some guy picked from the crowd made a fool of himself dancing...Prince got a kick out of him.

MOUNTAINS...full version with Shake Your Body Down too the Ground

Most importantly he said the following:" DONT WORRY NEW YORK, WE'LL BE BACK SOON...I LOVE IT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[Tomeeboy]
After cancelling his Super Bowl-related Dallas charity show over the weekend, and then not showing up to a scheduled press conference at 5pm on Monday, Prince played the final show of his NJ & NYC "Welcome 2 America" tour at Madison Square Garden Monday night (2/7). fucking awesome setlist...damn

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 12:50 AM

There were 30 kids from the Harlem Children's Zone who were selected to go to that press conference and meet Prince and then go hang out backstage, etc...... if Prince didn't show, wonder how that all went down.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 12:53 AM

there you have it ladies and gentlemen.....fuckin' Purple Elvis

Posted by goood gawd | February 8, 2011 12:53 AM

f'ing amazing

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 12:58 AM

This certainly sounds better than staying home and sticking things up my butt.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 1:04 AM

that is long ass setlist, some gems in their for sure..but kim kardashian?

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 1:10 AM

HOT THAAAANG

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 1:39 AM

was a completely different show tonight. can't say which one i liked better, don't really care.
was actually happy, felt like i've been to two different tours.

and really, i was thinking purple elvis myself tonight! good call 12:53!
also thought, if hendrix was alive, i bet they would've tour together.

but one question: what happened to the twins sisters tonight??

HOT THAAAANG

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 1:53 AM

Show was unreal. But I will come back every single time until he breaks down and plays Batdance or Darling Nikki. It's bullshit. If he says somebody gonna get pregnant tonight Cee Lo should have been allowed to say Fuck You, but Crazy almost made up for that. I would also like to add that all of Prince's monitors had constant reminders during Cee Lo's set that said "NO F WORD" Pretty hilarious, love my little Prince.

Posted by Justin | February 8, 2011 1:54 AM

Also to set the story straight, Prince tonight was James Brown, Elvis, Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson, Jesus and Jimi Hendrix all rolled into one.

34th Street Uptown 'A' Platform Smells Like Lavander

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 2:10 AM

This concert was so amazing. That is really all I can say.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 2:14 AM

F'ing unreal. Like 4 encores. Wow.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 2:30 AM

He told her "to get off the stage!"

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 2:53 AM

Al Sharpton was in the audience, but he didn't go up on stage. He was on the jumbotron.

Posted by Alison Sikes | February 8, 2011 8:17 AM

no partyman, no care

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 8:28 AM

The Cyndi Lauper cover was cool. Great energy, but I would have liked less hits, more obscure songs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 8:33 AM

Please provide more detail about what happened with kim kardashian. I can't stand her and I think this is hilarious. I hope it was really awkward and embarrassing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 8:44 AM

why did she even go on stage if she wasn't going to dance with prince?

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 8:45 AM

Sorry, 8:44 here. I didn't realize the clip above was of that moment. Pretty funny. "Get off the stage!" Hahaa

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 8:48 AM

Greatest show I have ever seen.

Posted by RB | February 8, 2011 8:56 AM

You forgot to mention Reverend Al Sharpton was in the crowd as well.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 9:23 AM

wish i coulda gone to this one.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 9:30 AM

The Cyndi Lauper cover turned out really good.

Cee-Lo's guitarist was incredibly hot, although the first thing I would have done with her if I got on stage is change her pickup selector from the bridge pickup. The quack tone was annoying song after song. But she was a looker.

Good show. No rarities. Prince teased us with the beginning of When Does Cry (which he never plays) only to move on after a couple of words.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 9:32 AM

Amazing show...What Cyndi Lauper cover?

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 9:38 AM

After I finished screaming and hollering at the end I cried knowing he was leaving New York (me), but had he stayed any longer I would go broke buying tickets to see him. I have never spent this much money on a man in my Life but he worth every penny and more. He makes me wanna HOLLA when he swevals those hips.COME BACK REAL SOON PRINCE. I LOVE YOU!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 9:50 AM

"What Cyndi Lauper cover?"

BV posted it above:
"CEELO playing full version of "When U Were Mine""

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 9:53 AM

Should have covered Ram Jam's "Black Betty"

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 9:54 AM

When did he play Mountains/etc? Everyone left after the lights came on following Adore. Did he play those songs in the dressing room?

Posted by KF | February 8, 2011 9:57 AM

Prince wrote When You Were Wine, and Lauper covered it. Not the other way around.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 10:42 AM

Meant Mine, not wine. My bad.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 10:45 AM

Y'all do realize that the Cyndi Lauper cover is actually a Prince cover, right?

Posted by tommyboy | February 8, 2011 10:46 AM

"All the wine is all for me" - the National

Chicken::Egg::Prince::Cyndi...nobody has the info

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 10:48 AM

"Chicken::Egg::Prince::Cyndi...nobody has the info"

Two people just gave you the info. The song was written by Prince, and is from the Dirty Mind album.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 10:57 AM

KF, he came back out maybe 3-5 minutes later. The house light never actually went up.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 11:04 AM

If you left after the 2nd encore, then you missed out!

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 11:06 AM

I had about enough after the 2nd encore anyway. How many times can someone say "good night"? And those medley snippets were obnoxious--like a bad club DJ.

Posted by KF | February 8, 2011 11:11 AM

The third encore was a pretty incredible way to end the night.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 11:12 AM

When You Were Mine is a Prince song. Cindy Lauper did record a popular version of it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 11:17 AM

CABS ARE HERE

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 11:52 AM

3rd encore vindicated the 2nd. KF missed out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 12:05 PM

who was the ape trying to rape kim kardashian onstage? (when she was up with the group, not the earlier time)

I actually thought Prince was annoyed by the group that came on later. It was a bit on an energy killer.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 12:08 PM

Kim Kardashian was clearly unable to dance in her heels. She needs a lesson from the purple yoda.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 12:44 PM

who was the harmonica player dude on stage?

Posted by andrew | February 8, 2011 1:23 PM

she didn't know who prince was

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 1:59 PM

"I actually thought Prince was annoyed by the group that came on later. It was a bit on an energy killer."

It was actually worse in December. Prince was so annoyed that he didn't come back on for "another" encore.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 2:35 PM

It looked like Cameron Crowe up there trying to hit on Kim Kardashian.

Posted by anonymouse | February 8, 2011 4:00 PM

To all you KK haters: jealous much?

Sincerely, The Heathers

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 5:23 PM

I am still high from this concert - it was amazing. I saw him a few years ago (was it 2004?) and I thought that show was awesome... this one was ridiculous. As long as that man continues to wear high heels, I'll continue to pay to see him!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 6:09 PM

Prince > Micheal Jackson

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2011 9:33 PM

Who was the redheaded band girl in the white hat?

Posted by SM | February 9, 2011 12:27 AM

someone should post kim k's supposedly "second chance".

Posted by nj | February 9, 2011 2:41 AM

Kim Kardashian has a nice butt, but she don't know how to shake it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 9, 2011 3:48 AM

ATTENTION: Anyone who thought "When U Were Mine" was first recorded by Cyndi Lauper, please leave your Fucking Hipster ID cards and skinny jeans at the reception desk as you leave. You've been excommunicated. Please never show your faces in Williamsburg again until you've listened to Prince's Dirty Mind album at least 10 times.

Friend and I attended the 3rd night gig at the IZOD Center in NJ Dec 17 and the Jan 18 gig at MSG. We both felt the NJ concert was better. Sheila E guested.
Have a newfound respect for The Beautiful Ones with his ballet dancer which he didn't do at the NY one. Nor did he do Little Red Corvette which he did as a beautiful ballad.
He ended the night on four ballads with the houselights on. THAT was a freaking moment!!!
