Angles

That's the cover art for the new Strokes record, Angles, which is being released on March 22nd via RCA records in the US, and March 21st via Rough Trade Records in the UK. The first single, "Under Cover of Darkness," which you can easily find for free if you don't have it already, is now on sale at iTunes.

On March 5th the Strokes are playing Saturday Night Live. The band is also rumored to be playing SXSW in mid-March (not long after they hit Vegas), and they are definitely playing Madison Square Garden in NYC on April 1st, and Coachella that same month, and then the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. In June they'll hit Bonnaroo.

Tickets for the MSG show go on AmEx presale via Ticketmaster on 2/18 at 9am. After fees they will set you back $68.25 each. As mentioned in the initial announcement, they go "on sale to public" on February 25th. Whether there are any other fan presales remains to be seen.

No official announcement yet on when the LCD Soundsystem Terminal 5 shows are going on sale, though they did mention it would be this week and Friday seems to make sense, but stay tuned. Bonnaroo goes on sale Saturday.

UPDATE: at around 12:30pm. the Strokes' manager tweeted a picture of the Loew's Theater in Jersey City where the band apparently is right now filming the video for "Under Cover of Darkness."

The Strokes are the cover of a new issue of NME. Check that out below...

That album art is headache inducing.

Rammstein just announced a North American tour. Izod Center is booked but no NYC.

There should be a dildo-"do you like my seven and a half inches" joke in here somewhere...

AMEX pre-sale this Friday at 9am, per Ticketmaster.

The Angle, of the dangle....is?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 11:52 AM

Goofy album art - reminds me of that perplexing MGMT 2nd album cover.

That new single kicks ass though. Excited about the album.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 11:53 AM

$68.50?

Are you freakin kidding me?

Posted by Venkman | February 16, 2011 11:55 AM

post updated with ticket link, thanks!

Posted by brooklynvegan | February 16, 2011 11:56 AM

I have a feeling the first single is getting people excited in the same way every first single by Weezer is half-decent but the rest of the album sucks big time.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 11:56 AM

Oh wait, only $68.25- that's a relief.

Posted by Venkman | February 16, 2011 11:57 AM

fuck 70 for a ticket. Ill save my bills and see the growlers in may for 12 bucks, now thats a deal.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 11:58 AM

Totally off topic but the last time I saw The Strokes, there was this amazingly annoying couple who were not only talking during the whole show but were talking about TMI info. The guy kept asking her "Do you like my seven and a half inches? Do you like my seven and a half inches? Is it the biggest you've ever had?" Yeah bro you're cool

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 11:58 AM

1. I find it interesting that the Angles font is identical to the one Murphy used for This Is Happening.

2. Remember that scene in Inception?

3. The single is pretty lazy and uninspired but it doesn't matter.

Totally off topic but the last time I saw The Strokes, there was this amazingly annoying couple who were not only talking during the whole show but were talking about TMI info. The guy kept asking her "Do you like how I paid almost $70 for a band that was great from 2002-2004? Do you like how I paid almost $70 for an overrated act? Is it the biggest ripoff you've ever seen?" Yeah bro you're cool

Posted by James Murphy | February 16, 2011 12:00 PM

over-priced and over-rated. You better hope J Cas is not as drunk and obnoxious as the last time I saw them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:03 PM

68 dollars? Chill.

I saw the White Stripes at Irving Plaza for less than half the price and it was an infinitely greater time than I am bound to have with shit seats at MSG.

No offense, Strokes. No offense, any of you.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:05 PM

GA sold out. They're selling tix at Mercury Lounge tomorrow morning. But only if it snows.

The line will be catered for Danny. Footlongs!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:06 PM

.... They kind of look like dicks on that NME cover.

All of them..

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:07 PM

Seven and a half inch dicks?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:10 PM

Their image/look has always gotten in the way of their music. Just close your eyes when you go to the show and you should be fine.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:12 PM

Cant decide which is worse....the album cover or the actual music it encases?

Discuss, debate, but don't call me late for dinner.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:16 PM

Anyone else wearing their leather jacket to this show and going to act disinterested while there?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:19 PM

in bigger "WTF" news, who the fuck is spending money advertising a band like A Skylit Drive on Brooklyn Vegan?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:40 PM

I hate radiohead

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:41 PM

worst cover art ever? nooo, buts its damn close. jesus christ, who are these people?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:41 PM

looking forward to nabbing a ticket the day of for $10.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:42 PM

you know what's worse 12:16? JC's solo album. that was terrible

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:42 PM

I'm coming out of the closet today and going public as a couple with my new girlfriend. Wish me luck everyone!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:49 PM

Oh, I get it - they used to be 70s, and now they're 80s - cool!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:50 PM

amazing that people still care.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 12:59 PM

After a few years at it, the transition from late-70's to early-80's just seems logical.....logical for a b!tch-@ss bunch of has-been, never-will-be musicians. Yes, they are popular, but YES they are a crap band who had one half decent album witha few good songs. DONE, bye, go away!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:11 PM

Hear hear, 1:11pm! I think the only reason people care is because the band played their cards well with the lengthy hiatus, but seriously, that last album was utter garbage and I don't remember people giving a tenth of the shits they are with this new one.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:15 PM

The consensus is in: not worth it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:18 PM

Man I hurt my back stage diving last night. Wonder what I should do?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:21 PM

I saw them three times in the past, no fucking way I'm seeing em again. First time was at Roseland, second was at Bowery for a press show and MSG theater. 68 dollars to see these people play an album that will not be worth it? Nope. They probably still don't do encores anymore. All three shows I've seen: no encore, and Julian makes a speech about it and the last song is always, Take it or Leave it. How fucking clever.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:21 PM

^ these negative commenters are 'tards -

Go or don't go to the expensive show, but Strokes are a great band.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:29 PM

it IS clever. take it or leave it. HA! tell 'em jules!

i'm gonna go jump off a bridge now.

Posted by stefan urquelle | February 16, 2011 1:31 PM

I really want to see the strokes live but I'm not about to drop 70 to see them at Msg. Why not do a few nights at radio city or something. Do they really have such a busy scheule that they can't do multiple nights at a smaller venue? Kind of disrespectful of the fans.

if you're old enough, you will remember that strokes cover from a video game called crystal castles. Wonder if that's a message to Crystal Castles..
prolly not.

HAMMOND CUT THE HAIR?! FORGET IT I'M DONE WITH THIS BAND!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:54 PM

Is there anything more pathetic than clicking through an article on a band you don't care about to question why others care about them?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 1:58 PM

stroke me, stroke me...

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:02 PM

Man, they're really batting 1000 with the bad cover art.

Posted by streetdude | February 16, 2011 2:09 PM

At least we won't have to deal with all of those solo projects for a while.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:11 PM

@ 2:11 AGREED.

but $68? i paid $12.50 first time i saw them in 2002.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:11 PM

second 2:11... no one cares how cool you think you are

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:26 PM

1:53, Crystal Castles were named after the castle from She-Ra, not a video game.

Ummm... liking the Strokes is a signifier of bad taste? Hardly. They have more listenable songs than most bands posted on this site.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 2:42 PM

this band should stay gone-utter horsesh*T
Foals owns

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 3:02 PM

most of ya'll are a buncha jerks.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 3:03 PM

Strokes > LCD > Foals

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 3:05 PM

"but $68? i paid $12.50 first time i saw them in 2002."

I paid (I think) $10 first time I saw them at the Mercury Lounge residence in 2000.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 3:06 PM

Well that was 11 years ago before they even put out a full length, you numbskull.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 3:47 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 4:04 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 4:28 PM

I really like dudes with beards. If someone in the Strokes had a beard, I would like the band.

Posted by Kari Ferrell | February 16, 2011 4:45 PM

FOALS????? Good lord people. listen to a real band, like Mumford and Suuns

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 5:00 PM

Ah fuck these guys.

Hey ..quick question.. Does this post make me look fat?

Thx.

B

Posted by Burg | February 16, 2011 5:05 PM

I guess its a good opportunity to make some money by reselling the tickets...

unless they're breaking up I'm not going to see them at MSG (oh wait)

Posted by GW | February 16, 2011 5:08 PM

i saw these guys open up for toad the wet sprocket at malibu in long island for, like, 3 bucks in 1993. crazy good.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 5:21 PM

why spew so much hate???

i am so excited to see the strokes again! they are so fucking hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 6:04 PM

The Interpreters should get back together. They would blow the Strokes out of the water.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 6:21 PM

Scene cred. I saw the Strokes open up for GBV twice. Oh, and that Radio City gig was pretty sweet too! :)

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 6:22 PM

He Man's crystal castles is after crystal castles the game...

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 6:29 PM

Does anyone remember the horrible Strokes/Eddie Vedder collaberation?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vu_pX--4avE

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 6:36 PM

I saw the Strokes at their hype peak at the Hammerstein Ballroom back in 2001ish and Foals last year. Foals were so much better.

The Strokes are a bunch of pampered daddy's boys. Giving them $70 for a show is just contributing to growing wealth inequality.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 9:49 PM

^ I've seen both and thought the exact opposite.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2011 10:45 PM

68.00 for a ticket at MSG??? Let me just point this out. So the people buying GA tickets pay the same as the ones in the nosebleed seats? Pearl Jam did that last year and I did not see them b/c of it. I wanted to see The Strokes again but I think I will wait.

Posted by Matt | February 16, 2011 11:51 PM

I would go if I could have a stroke stroke my rod. Alas no such shit shall come down on me.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 12:48 AM

but you see, things have NOT changed -- same 80s style graphics and guitar playing. things have not changed. at all.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 1:42 AM

It's nearly totally off topic by this point, but the BV post and all the comments follow the Strokes website and state that the presale is 9am Friday. The TM site says that the Amex presale actually will be at 10am. So while that gives you another hour in bed, you will refuse to believe the vendor site and be up, anyway, alternately refreshing TM, and posting randomly on the Internet to find out the Amex password. We all win.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 2:57 AM

I like the Strokes, and I definatley plan on seeing them at MSG. But after last yrs album and live shows Foals are probably the best band on earth, and definatley the most underrated.

It's not a fair comparison.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 6:49 AM

luvin the foals luv

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 7:57 AM

they gave me free hummous the first time i saw them. now they want $68? bollocks!

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 11:15 AM

fan presale today at 4pm

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 11:42 AM

none of you are fans, so you won't be buying.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2011 11:55 AM
