The National

The National played a 40 minute encore-less set at Milk Studios in NYC last night (2/9), one night after their MTV taping at the Studio. The occasion was an invite-only Deleon Tequila Fashion Week party.

National week continues with two Bryce Dessner events tonight (2/10) including the first of three Brooklyn Youth Chorus shows at St Ann's. Fashion week continues as well, with among other things happening, a Richie Rich fashion show at Hammerstein Ballroom that you can buy yourself a seat for.

More pictures and the setlist from the National Milk show, below...

What a worthless crowd. Bet they couldn't wait to get out of there, hence scratched out songs.

/\ HAHA, plus they played all their "singles," which pretty much means they were insulting the crowd's ability to comprehend their music.

wank

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 10:37 AM

That crowd didn't deserve to hear "Daughters of the Soho Riots".

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 10:37 AM

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 10:40 AM

"Oh honey, it was absolutely ma'velous. The h u m m u s hor devours were absolutely delictable, and aside from the group of unkept vagabonds they hired as background music, it was a divine night..." *snorts line*

this random tweet i just found gives you some kind of indication as to what the crowd was like:

ashaleoā€ˇ watching The National play at Milk Studios NYC, trying to act hip, but really i just want to cover my ears

forgot the hash tag: #badnoise

The crowd was awful. I was luckily able to be up front with a couple of people (unfortunately just a couple people) who truly loved the fact that their favorite band was about to play this tiny stage.

Shouts to the insanely tall girl that HAD to be front center who looked like she was from The Nightmare before Christmas and insisted on wearing a sunhat indoors while "mouthing" the random choruses. She also apparently wanted to hear "Secret Meeting"...get the hell outta here with that....

As well as shouts to the two clearly drugged out photographers, elbowing patrons and being overall douchebags for whom I can only hope those pictures above are not theirs.

The night was a prime example of why New York can be amazing yet horrible at the same time.

11:33 - no, that wasn't me. thank god. one dude's elbow was either in my face or my lens all night, so i'm glad i wasn't the only one peeved. what was funny was seeing all the shots i took that were ruined by them blocking me the entire night. hope i didn't get in your way at all...

Haha, you know EXACTLY who am talking about then. The Arab looking Ben Savage and his light fixture guy who's eyes were rolling to the back of his head...The pictures are really great by the way, thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 11:52 AM

"/\ HAHA, plus they played all their "singles," which pretty much means they were insulting the crowd's ability to comprehend their music."

Best part of @ashaleo's tweet is her prior tweet:

Amazin performance by gladys knight, dionne warwick, elton john & stevie wonder at amfAR gala tonight. 1st time thy'v playd 2gthr in 23 yrs!

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 1:36 PM

10:34 prefers their "earlier" work. Since, they've continued to churn out solid, stylistically similar work.

It's that adherence to their roots that made them become the single-producing, arena-sell outs they are now.

I don't know about you all, but if I hear just ONE MORE National song on the radio, I'll just lose it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 1:41 PM

Isn't the girl with the white hat Maggie Rizer?

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 1:45 PM

blackhat and @1.35 correct... very hot!

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 1:47 PM

i wonder how much the national got payed to do this? sucks for them that there were photographers there. i'm all for bands making money but i wouldnt want photo evidence.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 1:49 PM

1.45 - there is a resemblance there! Both are hot if not the same person

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2011 2:07 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2011 1:53 AM
