[as rumored] The Strokes will return to SXSW on Thursday, March 17th to play the Auditorium Shores Stage (at Lady Bird Lake). The show will be free and open to the public, courtesy of the fine folks at Levi's, who will also provide footage of the show online one day after their performance. The New York five-piece rock-band return with their highly anticipated fourth album, Angles, to be released March 22nd via RCA in the US, and March 21st via Rough Trade in the UK. Angles is the band's first new release in 5 years, and their showcase will be their first return to SXSW since their now-legendary 2001 showcase at the Iron Cactus.

"Simply put, The Strokes rock. They embody the same attitude that has been synonymous with Levi's for years and we're ecstatic to present them for free at SXSW," said Christian Parkes senior director of marketing, Levi's Strauss. "We're also excited at being able to share the performance online, giving fans all over the world the opportunity to experience the show."

The Strokes play SXSW one night after Queens of the Stone Age do, which is the same night as the BrooklynVegan official showcase.

Tickets for the Strokes show at MSG go on sale to the general public on Friday at 11am (AmEx and another presale already happened).

cap is probably over 10,000. Auditorium shores is a park bigger than the mccarren softball fields.

Yeah, great, but no free show for your hometown.

"Yeah, great, but no free show for your hometown"

Yeah, but their hometown is not your hometown. Go back to the midwest for your free shows.

Good for them today its like music became a business while it could make money it should be a form of entertainment not a primary business.

I hate the Strokes too..... Fabrizio pinched my nipple once because I sort of look like Drew Barrymore's brother.

God, weak. Who cares about this band? If you care about this band, you need to find a new band to care about.

Both the SXSW show and MSG are going to suck. Because the band sucks and the sound will suck. Loose loose combination. Mark these words.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 3:10 AM

Every Strokes song sounds the same? Why is this?

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 3:12 AM

.....and this is why my decision to go to sxsw is AWESOME.

I like beer and dogs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 11:49 AM

@8:33 -You obviously care about them enough that you would take the time to click on this post, read it and write a comment about how you don't care about them. Great job.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 12:01 PM

Posting derogatory comments about a band you claim not to care about is a loose, loose combination.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 1:26 PM

12:01--yeah, that's right. It is a good job--of spreading the word about how weak and lame the Strokes are. What's it to you?

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2011 1:49 PM

thank you a lot's

Posted by احبك | February 24, 2011 6:47 AM

For once I completely agree - the strokes are equally cool as levis.
