"Hate to comfirm that most of our international acts did not have their visas processed in time for sxsw despite having applied correctly." - Wichita Records

"We're truly sorry to everyone who"s worked so hard on these bands' trips and to everyone who planned to see them.we're all devastated." - Wichita Records

Frankie and the Heartstrings

We're bummed to report that Frankie and the Heartstrings will no longer be playing their NYC show at Mercury Lounge on March 21st, or the BrooklynVegan Dot Com Day Stage at SXSW (we're working on a replacement), or any other SXSW shows they had scheduled like the Wichita Showcase which has bands dropping off it left and right. We can also confirm that as a commenter pointed out, Young Legionnaire (a Bloc Party side project) are also not making it to SXSW or Mercury Lounge.

Young Legionnaire were supposed to play Mecury Lounge after SXSW with Those Dancing Days who confirmed they were cancelling their NYC & Austin shows over the weekend, and before that it was Dam Mantle who cancelled all SXSW dates. The Witchita SXSW showcase now looks like this:

3/19 Wichita Records Showcase @Lattitude
01 Young Legionnaire
12 Those Dancing Days
11 Frankie & The Heartstrings
10 Veronica Falls
09 Dam Mantle
08 Her Space Holiday
You'll notice Veronica Falls is still on there. Though they cancelled their NY show, they are supposedly still making it to Austin. Their busy schedule is below...

this is really unfortunate (esp for those dancing days who are pretty awesome) ... seems like someone dropped the ball on this, unless the US embassy/ies were particularly incompetent in processing the visas ...

also, uh, i'd hit it/where's my hummus (just want to make sure i'm a true BV commentator)

Sad thing is, the same person probably wrote both of those.

I wonder if SXSW isn't confirming dates early enough for bands to get their visas sorted out on time.

Her Space Holiday?! They're still around!?

how does a visa not get done nowadays? I mean, this was probably planned well in advance, well at least the SXSW portion of it...
