The New York Dolls

"While most of the music-loving world has descended upon the indie music mecca of SXSW in Austin, Tx., some of us poor souls are stuck tooling around in boring ole New York. What's there to do in this city, anyway?

The answer to that was easy last night: see the New York Dolls. Even 38 years after their debut - which is still the most convincing argument that rock is best played loud, fast and in drag - the New York Dolls own the stage like they invented modern rock. Which isn't that far from the truth anyway." [Entertainment Weekly]

NY Dolls celebrated the release of their new album with two shows at Bowery Ballroom (3/16 and 3/17). More pictures from the first show, below...

Is their bassist the dude from Louis XIV? I thought that bottle of red wine looked familiar.

invented modern rock? hardly.

they were a bunch of junkies in dresses playing rough blues and rock. hardly groundbreaking.

in this respect, at least give The Stooges the credit they deserve

You gotta admit that Buster Poindexter still looks pretty good in that white dress for like 300 years old.

"overrated band"

100,000 X better than any new band discussed here in the last five years....

for real.

overrated band
^^
the irony here is that the person that wrote this is probably so incredibly insignificant.

Had a blast on Weds night! They were even better than I expected, especially being their first show since last fall. The band also included a new lead guitarist (Earl Slick - the real deal!)

These guys still know how to rock n roll!

5:55 thy name is ignorance.

"Is their bassist the dude from Louis XIV?"

Yes it is. He also produced the new album.

Is David Johansen wearing a wig?

Why aren't they wearing makeup and where are their dresses?
