Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark @ T5 (by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
OMD

"It's been a long time. The OMD lineup has not played in North America since 1988. As you can imagine, we are really really excited. We have been playing gigs now in Europe for three-and-a-half years. It has gone brilliantly. We have built up a really big following again. The gigs have been brilliant. And we've been really trying to get ourselves back to North America, so we are really delighted now that we have...." [Andy McCluskey]
The North American OMD tour is on the move and hit Terminal 5 in NYC last night (3/8). It was originally scheduled to take place at the smaller Webster Hall, but was moved up after it sold out. Oh Land opened the show like she will continue to do along their way to SXSW.

More pictures and some videos from the NYC show, below...

Why are there so many Asians in the crowd?

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2011 3:04 PM

same damn necktie as 1988 too

Posted by donn | March 9, 2011 3:10 PM

what a fantastic show, a very special one!
the place gone electric, great stage show,
above any expections.

and yeah, like a third of the crowd was asian, mostly chinese, i was surprised too by that.

and last, BV, don't send me early anymore to watch one of your mediocre millenial acts that you're pushing.
crystal castles she ain't...

Andy has aged very well. Still fit and danced around the stage with more energy than most kids a fraction of his age. That was the best part of it for me. Oh Land, combined with not enough material off the first two OMD albums (which I guess I was expecting after hearing about their Architecture & Morality European shows) were the low points. Still...good to see the vets having so much fun up on that stage.

p.s. To the Asian guys standing towards the back left of the main floor...obnoxiously pointing your finger to the sky like you're seeing a UFO while blocking everyone's view behind you is NOT equal to dancing.

OMG! OMD played "If You Leave"!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2011 4:03 PM

remember that commercial for the 80's compilation that played like 5 seconds of "If You Leave"? I think it was either immediatley followed by "Lies" by the Thompson Twins. Always made me laugh.

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2011 4:46 PM

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2011 5:11 PM

those bands suck too. this is not an either/or thing.

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2011 5:16 PM

all bands suck

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2011 5:49 PM

if you buy a ticket to a show at a venue, it should stay at that venue. fuck this T5 bs

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2011 6:23 PM

I got there late so I was alllllll the way to the right of the stage, not really in the event at all. Quite a different vantage point as compared to having the band in front of you. Band was enteraining as was the guy next to me who was screaming at this chick who threw a beer at him (for what reason beer was thrown I have no idea)This guy was in her face and then went after the (alleged) boyfriend who proceeded to HIDE behind his girlfriend. Comedy relief. The crowds enthusiasm and the band giving it all made for an entertaining evening. Walking to that venue from the subway is a royal pain in the ass.

Thanks to all of you who didn't go to the show and let us know how bad it must have been to have gone. Keep it coming.

Posted by worldclassfad | March 9, 2011 10:13 PM

I did go but left 1/2 hr into their set, cringe overload, horrible.. They're no Best Coast though

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2011 10:30 PM

Oh Land was good. OMD was brilliant. The only negative was the fact that they played at the worst venue they possibly could in NYC. I can only imagine how much better it would have been if they played at an actual venue rather than that old warehouse.
