Robyn Hitchcock & Joe Boyd on tour, singing, talking, reading Joe's book (dates include NYC tonight)

Robyn and Joe

Robyn Hitchcock and Joe Boyd are on tour and at Le Poisson Rouge tonight (3/11) for what should be a fascinating evening of conversation and music. Boyd, you may know, produced some of the most influential albums of the late ’60s and early ’70s, including records by Syd Barrett,  Nick Drake, Fairport Convention and The Incredible String Band. (And later R.E.M. and 10,000 Maniacs.) Says Robyn:

In this show, Joe tells excerpts of his story, largely reading from [his memoir] White Bicycles: I sing the songs he worked on or was involved with, the songs I grew up with – I also ask him questions and interrupt, like a kid that wants to be part of the story. The story is a big part of me.

Anyone who has seen Robyn Hitchcock before knows the stage banter is just as entertaining as his music, so the idea of him playing talk show host to the guy who produced “Arnold Layne” and Bryter Layter sounds pretty amazing.
