horrible.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 3:32 AM

I heard the Hummus Queens were originally slated to perform, but Julian Casablancas paid them off with some of the ultra-elite Sabra Top-Shelf Reserve.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 3:41 AM

not a good band. never understood why this band appealed to people. kick a little ass once in a while.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 3:49 AM

Little Joy reunion

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 4:43 AM

bring it.

Posted by charlie | March 6, 2011 5:35 AM

There's a reason why every "The" band disappeared!

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 6:52 AM

Much like Interpol, these guys simply sound dated these days.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 6:52 AM

very nice. can`t wait for the new record.

Posted by andas | March 6, 2011 6:53 AM

This band is fucking rubbish! They are a rehashed, unoriginal bar band with minimal creativity....never should've gotten so big
in the britches!

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 6:55 AM

Fab Moretti has a baby dick

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 6:56 AM

Albert Hammond Jr's hair is taking a turn for the Jude Law.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 7:48 AM

Really not impressed one little bit.

But when they're in MSG with all those fine accoustics there [cough], then I'm *sure* they'll sound less like a band whose best days are a decade behind them.

About all we can say is that at least, unlike Interpol, they have all their original members on stage. For what that's worth.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 8:01 AM

The bass player looks gay.

Posted by Henty Rollins | March 6, 2011 9:04 AM

I see them as an opening act. Period.

Posted by Lame | March 6, 2011 9:08 AM

they keep making the same song over and over again. do something different. they DO look bored as shit

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 9:16 AM

Still a better band than most everything else out there.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 9:24 AM

Bored is their schtick.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 9:24 AM

I bet Julian's penis has hair on it all the way to the tip

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 9:28 AM

Let me guess...all of you bitching didn't get tickets for MSG, right?

the strokes played 2001 (videos)

Posted by ESCORTE | March 6, 2011 10:07 AM

I don't know why anyone is surprised, the Strokes were never a good live band. They always just stood there. They make decent music, but have never been good live.

Unsurprisingly, Julian did not reach for the high note at the end of "Under Cover Of Darkness".

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:18 AM

i gotta say that first video performance was pretty awesome by jules. everything aside he is a killer frontman. who else currently has that type of old school swagger and can actually write the songs to back it up. 'someday' will still be one of the best pop songs of the last decade.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:21 AM

You guys are nuts - they sound really good! And music on SNL usually sounds like shit, so that's saying something.

For those saying they sound dated - you realize that has always been their objective, right? Their whole appeal is that they sound like 70's glam punk meets 80's new wave.

I do agree with the guy who commented about MSG and the sound there, however. My only regret with this band is that MSG is the only kind of venue they play anymore. I'd much rather see them play a smaller/better place, but they're obviously too big for that now.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:22 AM

Still a better band than most everything else out there.
Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 9:24 AM

Wow, you're pretty fucking stupid...and VERY wrong

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:23 AM

singer has fat legs

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:25 AM

julian said fuck it during under cover of darkness and it didnt get censored

bad ass

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:25 AM

I was Strokin' it to their SNL performance AND I'll be doing the same at MSG biaches~!

Posted by Deano Bravo | March 6, 2011 10:25 AM

Whose going to start with the Miley Cyrus jokes?

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:26 AM

all the SNL skits were terrible. the strokes were probsbly the best thing about that show and that's not saying much.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:35 AM

Your going to, not mine.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:35 AM

These guys make shoegaze bands come off like David Lee Roth in the 'Panama' video.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:41 AM

I thought they were pretty great, actually.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:52 AM

money talks/ the rest of us walk.
The Strokes are a joke. One day we'll all get it.And the joke is as funny as most of the SNL skits. Not.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:25 AM

If you payed attention in 2001, they we're bored then too. That's the point: no frills, no encores, cold and cool with only a vague interest in what they're playing. They're not gonna dance around a laptop like Ariel Pink.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:26 AM

boring

Posted by g | March 6, 2011 11:28 AM

At least Ashlee Simpson danced.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:36 AM

definitely said 'fuck it' on live TV, sweet

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:44 AM

god, this is just painful.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:48 AM

bland

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:51 AM

Show has been a little better since they added that hipster this year as a cast member. It's really a step forward for all hipster kind. Finally breaking barriers.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:57 AM

good performaces. welcome back.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:58 AM

"For those saying they sound dated - you realize that has always been their objective, right? Their whole appeal is that they sound like 70's glam punk meets 80's new wave."

@10:22 - OK...they sound dated three times over then.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:59 AM

Watever, Miley is hot.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 12:01 PM

That was the worst SNL I've seen in a long time.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 12:02 PM

BEST QUOTE on BV today:

"The strokes played 2001 (videos)"

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 12:05 PM

@10:25 - bad ass.....if you are like all of their other 12 year old hot topic fans.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 12:07 PM

[in a scene from "Brock Landers: Angels Live In My Town"]
Dirk: [as Brock] You still hungry?
Jessie St. Vincent: Starving.
[unzipping his pants]
Dirk: [as Brock] Then feast on that.

"Wow, you're pretty fucking stupid...and VERY wrong"

Name a better current band jerk off

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 12:15 PM

I suggest amputation

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 12:19 PM

@12:15 - i think that the opposite would be much less detailed. because i can't think of any worse bands. does that make it easier for you to understand?

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 12:26 PM

Julian sounds like Kim Jong Il from Team America in the second song.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 12:50 PM

STROKES ARE THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 12:51 PM

Hey BV,I know Sunday might be an 'off day' but please move this Strokes wank as the first story you see when signing on... at this point, all there is to look forward to are Sundays (show)listings. Isn't there a great show that took place in NYC over the last couple of days that we can get an update on...bc it's certainly not this drivel. The Strokes on tv..limp

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 1:00 PM

i thought i heard the word fuck at the end of the 2nd song.

Posted by rod STROKEr | March 6, 2011 1:11 PM

@ the sold out Smith Western show (Knitting Factory)there was surprisingly alot of room on the right side of stage. I attribute that to the pungent smell of a hummus fart. I just made believe it was mine, stayed put, and enjoyed the show.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 1:21 PM

Sometimes people dont start bands to be original but rather to play the kind of music that they want to hear.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 1:45 PM

@ 12:26 yeah, i think i got it now...you got nuthin

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 2:10 PM

i really would like to hear more synth in both of these songs. preferably 2 or more, both at the front of the stage. and maybe a guy off to the side playing some sort of rhythm machine while standing up and holding only one drumstick. also, their outfits are just not doing it for me. i'd rather not be able to tell what sex these guys are. too bad they are too big to play terminal 5 now - my favorite venue!!!

Posted by AnonyMEHus | March 6, 2011 2:26 PM

its pretty fitting, the first time i saw a that 'last night' video for the strokes, i was completely convinced i was watching a snl sketch from the 80s. i never believed an ACTUAL BAND could be that bad.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 2:44 PM

is the one guitarist balding???

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 2:47 PM

yeah totally look how bored they looked

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csD4ZgMPgvg

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 3:00 PM

holy shit nikolai and albert wear their guitars so fucking high up... nick is the only one that looks like a rocker

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 3:26 PM

When are they playing the Loews in Jersey City?

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 3:45 PM

can't say i agree with the bassist's choice of outfit, but im pumped for the album!

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 4:18 PM

Wankers.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 5:01 PM

wow, so much hate. i seriously don't see what is so terrible about the strokes. all the songs i've heard from the album have been very strong so far, and i'm looking forward to the rest of it.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 6:32 PM

bring on the backlash.....

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 6:36 PM

cool. i was out last night and really wanted to see this. thanks for the quick post.

Posted by JoeSchmo | March 6, 2011 6:37 PM

6:32- they only hate because The Strokes have been around for "too long" and people know they are not going away. The actual music is irrelevant to haters. The funny thing is they don't even listen to the music

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 6:46 PM

Loved both, just beautifully, nimbly arranged guitar rock. The slower tune is as good as anything they've ever done.

Who does he wish happy birthday at the end of Under Cover?

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 6:58 PM

Miley Cyrus looks stupid... surprise surprise

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 7:01 PM

Mofos been hatin on the strokes for one decade now. Time flies.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 8:12 PM

Fuck it y'all

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 8:21 PM

he wishes his kiddo happy b day

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 8:31 PM

Looks like Nic threatened to quit the band unless he could do more "solos".... anyway, these 2 songs are ok but I think, if Julian had used the songs from "Phrazes" for this album it would be called a real comeback....

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 9:28 PM

Remember when Billy Squire did The Stroke?

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:05 PM

some bands can look bored on stage but the execution of the music is so good i can easily overlook it. but if you're going to play music that's toothless, like the strokes, at least have some energy on stage. these guys fail miserably on both fronts.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:29 PM

I'm surprised anyone can watch those videos and not think they sounded great. Jullian always looks bored but he is the best singer in rock n' roll today. It's more fun to watch Albert, Fab, and Nick!

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 10:38 PM

Casablancas cant hold a tune...and they are his own tunes. He's lazy. If you want to mistake that for bored...have at it. When you have to resort to saying fuck on TV...you know. They know...watch Nick Valensis face at the end of the broadcast where the studio audience gave a low end unenthusiastic applause to them on the Strokes home court NY turf...they know. The rest of them know. Casablancas cant get on top of anything the musicians deliver...he wants to...but he cant make it. This is the beginning of a campaign not the triumphant end of... Casablancas is fucking you in the mouth straight back down to Ludlow St....and you love it...gaggers.

Posted by ummmmmm...... | March 6, 2011 11:08 PM

" if Julian had used the songs from "Phrazes" for this album it would be called a real comeback...."

totally agree. if the single from his solo record had been produced with guitars and stuff instead of synths it would have been a massive hit song for the strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2011 11:45 PM

11:45 i believe that was sarcasm

dummy

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 12:19 AM

i like em.. but for blog sake, and I mean sake not SAKE, can we call em THE JOKES?

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 12:30 AM

@11:08 Are you mark david chapman's son? Take it easy...

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 12:32 AM

like they never left...in a bad way!

Posted by mileyisadude | March 7, 2011 12:51 AM

Proto-Brunchwave

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 1:35 AM

seriously imagining a male over the age of 16 gettnig heavy into the song "12:51" by the strokes. laughing aloud

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 2:52 AM

At least they are a rock band that plays guitars, ya know, instead of a band like Animal Collective just trying to make weird noises in anyway they can.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 8:57 AM

strokes suck so much that the lead singer dropped the f bomb on national televison and nobody cared.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 9:26 AM

they're using real guitars to craft real shitty major-chord pop that all sounds the same, 8:57.

Posted by the jim | March 7, 2011 11:25 AM

the new songs seem like they are ok .. but i have to say it's difficult to go back to this after hearing Julian's solo album,
it had more depth in every aspect .. it seems the rest of the band just act as a neutralizing agent watering down the active ingredient ..

Posted by larry | March 7, 2011 11:28 AM

They look bored because they are. Jullian doesn't even seem to like the new album. This band is very close to just calling it a day.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 12:50 PM

the strokes were terrible. I'm in to all kinds of music and have a pretty broad range of musical taste. The strokes just suck, period.

Posted by jason | March 7, 2011 2:31 PM

how is Miley introducing them, thought she was in rehab.

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 4:26 PM

fat sausage legs stuck in tight black pants, you are not joey ramone

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 4:44 PM

seems like the lower you go on this comment section the more pathetic the haters sound. @4:44 really? that's why you don't like their music? hahahaha

Posted by Anonymous | March 7, 2011 8:09 PM

so much better than the tasteless shit thats been coming out for the past 5-10 years. all these people probably get off to shit from lil wayne and kesha. straight shit from the ass of budah and into the mouth of wannabees.
