Unearthly Trance at their last NYC show? (more by Jonathan McPhail)
Unearthly Trance

After returning from a quake/tsunami-ravaged Japan where they toured with High on Fire & Melvins (all bands are OK), preceeded by an Australian tour with Monarch & Dark Castle, NYC's Unearthly Trance have called it quits.

Unearthly Trance played our FINAL show in Nagoya, Japan. We will no longer be playing live again. Thanks to all who came to see us over the years! -Ryan Lipynsky
Hopefully "no longer be playing live again" won't also affect their recorded output (their latest LP V was one of my favorites of 2010) or Lipynsky's output with The Howling Wind. R.I.P. to one of my favorite NYC bands.

Melvins and were also in NZ for that earthquake. They need to take it easier on those dual drums

Great news! Now I never have to suffer through them opening for much better bands.

Well this is shitty news. 11:30 is probably a Doomriders fan.

Who knows, JT? I think 11:30 just needs to show up to the venues at a later time to avoid possible shitty opening bands. That's all.

good news!

So are they officially done (no more recordings) or are they just not performing live anymore?

Fuck you idiots above. I'm queasy reading this. Unearthly Trance is a phenomenal band. I truly hope they change their minds.

NOOOOO!!!!!!!! Unearthly trance is definitely nycs best metal band. This is a disaster...

Who hopes or is glad for band break-ups? Fuck, they're not Coldplay or the Strokes or some shit. They're HEAVY fucking METAL. They play LOUD, SLOW and AWESOME. How is this in any way a good thing? Were they my favourite doom band? No. But they were still pretty fuckin' rad.

It's really not a "disaster" if this metal band stops playing. No one died because of their ending and they will probably play again in some form or another. Must be a bad joke.

If you ever played to people in nyc,you would want to stop playing live too.

"If you ever played to people in nyc,you would want to stop playing live too."

I wouldn't let jaded crowds deter me if I was in a band, that's for sure.

They played a couple great live sets on WNYU's Hellhole too. RIP - Unearthly Trance. Their other assorted projects are good, too, but UT live was always fun.
