Yo La Tengo during Chanukah 2010 (more by Chris Gersbeck)

Yo La Tengo have scheduled a new round of dates, and they aren't Jewish holiday-themed benefit shows or to raise money for Japan, but they will, like the upcoming Elvis Costello shows, contain a special aspect. The band writes:
"For our ...[upcoming] tour dates, we've decided to take the advice of Blood, Sweat & Tears to "ride a painted pony/let the spinning wheel spin." And just in case that's not self-explanatory, read on..."The Brooklyn dates are May 10th & 11th at The Bell House. Tickets for both 5/10 and 5/11 go on sale Friday at noon (4/1), and can also be found at Other Music with no fee. More dates, and details on what these shows will entail, below...
---------
We're going to split our performance into two sets. At the beginning of the night, we'll bring a Wheel of . . . Fortune? Fate? What ARE those carnival things called? . . . on stage, and spin it. Whatever comes up, that's what the first 45 minutes will be. Here are the possibilities:Yo La Tengo does Seinfeld1. Condo Fucks:
50 million Fuckbook fans can't be wrong!2. Dump:
Why should Nijmegen and Claremont get all the fun? Is this the night Dump plays your town? Only the wheel knows.3. The Freewheeling Yo La Tengo:
You ask a question; we answer the question, and maybe follow up with a song.4. The Name Game:
Have you ever noticed how many Yo La Tengo songs include someone's name? More than 45 minutes' worth, that's for sure, so who knows which ones we'll do on any given night.5. Sitcom Theater:
The lucky audience in attendance the night the wheel lands on this space will get to see band and crew act out a classic sitcom.6. Songs Starting With S:
The only thing more common than a Yo La Tengo song with a name is a Yo La Tengo song starting with S (only one song fits both categories). So many, in fact, that we cannot promise that all of them are on the table, as it were. But we do promise that there will be songs rarely, if ever, heard live.7. The Sounds of Science part 1
8. The Sounds of Science part 2
All of the lovely sounds we created, but none of that pesky science. We're leaving the movies at home, and dividing the 90-minute program in half.

Yo La Tengmeh
Why not make the EC ripoff complete and populate your "Spinning Wheel" with EC songs too?

11:06.....hey buddy, get a f--king life!!

This seems annoying.

Hey Anonymous - you're wrong. I agree with Anonymous.
Jerk.

There should be another option on the wheel. They play nothing, everyone gets a refund and goes home.

One of the options on the wheel should be: "YLT plays Painful in its entirety"

>> do you think for a second they aren't aware of Elvis Costello tour way back when...? I'm sure they are and probably attended some of the shows and they'd be the first to admit that they took their inspiration from that. but I do believe they are taking it a step farther...

I hope the classic sitcom the act out is Two and a Half Men or Becker.

In theory, the possibilty of YLT acting out a Seinfeld episode sounds very funny. In reality, it is funny for about 5 minutes then just becomes kinda boring. Oh well, at least they're not resting on their laurels.

I'd pay in advance if I was guaranteed to see some 3rd season Major Dad.

Perfect Strangers would be better. But who would play Balki? Ira or James?

11:06 prefers to see the exact setlist night after night (Arcade Fire), or catching several of the Leaving On A Jet Plane Shows (LCD)
Life must be too short to watch talented bands which have been around for 25 years, huh?

I'm 11:06, and sorry Myron but you have completely misrepresented my post. I'm not surprised, since this board is made up of idiots such as yourself that cannot tolerate a differing opinion.
Listen here, Sally, Yo La Tengmeh are boring, and Styx have been around for 25 years too. You must be a Styx fan too then, huh?

MOST BORING BAND IN THE WORLD
Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2011 8:08 PM
wah, wah, fucking wah. if you don't like the band, why even post? have you even seen them live? your favorite band probably sounds great on record, and is boring-as-fuck live, unlike yo la tengo, who have amazing live shows.
i for one rejoice that they are playing for two nights (2! nights!) in the fabulous city of Minneapolis, in a tiny bar to boot. it will be awesome. i pity the hipster haters, wallowing in their self-congratulatory, boring pretension. have fun being negative while i'm having a great time a fun show.
