Animal Collective @ Coachella 2011 (more by David Andrako)
Animal Collective

They might not make the most sense playing right before a headlining set by Arcade Fire, and after Mumford & Sons, on the main stage of Coachella (like they did on Saturday), but a headlining show at Prospect Park's Banshell is perfect for Animal Collective who will return to the large outdoor Brooklyn venue on July 12th. Tickets for the Celebrate Brooklyn benefit go on AmEx presale Wednesdy at noon, and then on general sale Friday.

The band played two sold out nights at the same venue in 2009. The new Brooklyn show is three days before Animal Collective play the Pitchfork Festival which recently updated its lineup. Check that out below...

BLACK EYED PEAS in my hummus tonight at terminal 5

Coachella proved that Ryan Schreiber is a total retard. The two worst bands of the fest are his two favorites. Animal Collective and Ariel Pink. Ryan Schreiber is the king of awful limp dick indie for fattys.

it really was a pleasant place to see them back in aug 09. maybe it was because i wasn't up front with the asshole superfans but it was really nice to just light up a j and watch this band on a beautiful summer night.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:04 PM

yep agreed 1:04pm.

09 prospect park shows > 09 bowery > 09 terminal 5

Too Late! In a previous post we have already concluded that AnCo sucks live.

A bunch of self-important wankers!

"09 prospect park shows > 09 bowery > 09 terminal 5"

You are out of your mind there. Yeah Prospect Park was better than Terminal 5. I mean shit listening to them play just about anywhere else would be better than Terminal 5. No way was the Park better than the Bowery show. Sound wise alone Bowery was so much better.

Hummus yaaa my lord hummuss yaaaa
ANimAL collective hummus ya

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:18 PM

animal collective have always favored new unrecorded material over their current "hits".

it's almost like to fully enjoy an animal collective concert you have to go back in time exactly two years so you can actually recognize the songs.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:20 PM

Who is this band?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:24 PM

Actually, you'd have to go forward two years. They played almost exclusively MPP stuff at Webster Hall in '07, and the album didn't come out until '09.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:25 PM

What does this have to do with LCD!?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:26 PM

i only go to free shows

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:30 PM

their prospect park show was great. best outdoor venue in nyc by far imo.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:37 PM

right, but in '09 you would have full knowledge of the album. except if you went to an animal collective show in '09 you'd get like "my girls" and that's it. so you'd go back in time to '07 and see the entire album and actually enjoy yourself!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:37 PM

If you had the ability to time travel, would you waste it going to Animal Collective concerts?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:53 PM

^ good point. i'd go to wavves concerts

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:57 PM

Are you fucking serious, Wavves? Me, I'd go to Sleigh Bells concerts.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 1:58 PM

I would go back to early 80s and see the Talking Heads....

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 2:09 PM

Animal Collective playing AT Merriweather Post Pavillion on July 9!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 2:09 PM

OFF! should be headlining this whole event.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 2:11 PM

I don't see what the big deal is with the coachella set. when I saw sonic youth a year or two ago they played pretty much their entire new record. Ditto stephen malkmus. Last ac concert I went to was merriweather plus songs from strawberry jam (fireworks) sungtongs (leaf house, rabbit) and a few others from older records, it was a pretty good variety all in all. Let's face it, they're not the type of band to play phoned-in, uninspired 'greatest hits' sets - would you want them to be?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 2:11 PM

I've got a flux capacitor I'd be willing to sell to the highest bidder. Any takers?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 2:16 PM

how many jigowatts does it power up to? that is the dealbreaker.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 2:27 PM

I heard that James Murphy conceived frohawk while eating two gallons of hummus and three orders of pita chips.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 2:39 PM

wow I'm surprised the comments haven't reached 100 yet....did most of hipsters move out of NY after LCD broke up?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 3:06 PM

Boy, that weekend in Prospect Park '09 was special.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 3:24 PM

people still listen to this?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 3:42 PM

3:06, no. Just that no one cares about AnCo and their antics anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 3:45 PM

3:06: I think really 2009 was THE YEAR for Animal Collective. IMO, they were at their peak as far as hype/MPP/etc. goes. Ever notice that they seemed to drop off the face of the earth when 2010 started (relatively speaking, of course)? Even I didn't think about them much that year. So, in short there was nowhere to go but down since 2009, but I hope I'm proven wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 4:11 PM

And I really think 2011 is the year of the *fancy* hummus platter.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 4:34 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 5:35 PM

You guys, can we all talk about this cut-off jean shorts thing that has been going on? Bad news...

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 6:02 PM

Yay!! cobralegs!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 9:40 PM

Let me tell you people something important. Neko Case smells really, really bad. P to the mutherfucking U!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2011 11:37 PM

I've been wearing cut-off jean shorts fro a while. My friends mock me, but if you do it with the right amount of confidence and finesse they will actually be jealous.

Posted by Anonymous | April 19, 2011 9:08 AM

Jump the fence, yo. It's easy to get into the Prospect Park concert area. But only do this after the show has sold out.

Posted by Regular reader | April 19, 2011 9:10 AM

9:08,

No, we're not jealous. You just look like a fuck-up.

Posted by Anonymous | April 19, 2011 9:53 AM

"Jump the fence, yo. It's easy to get into the Prospect Park concert area. But only do this after the show has sold out."

The fence for the paid shows is much higher than the normal fence. You have your standard metal barricade, then a ~8ft wooden fence.

Posted by Anonymous | April 19, 2011 9:55 AM

i'd use my time machine for a Fun Lovin Criminals / Dirty Vegas shared headline show at Prospect Park
