Cults' debut full length will be released this spring via It The Name Of / Columbia Records, but you can listen to the first official track off the LP, "You Know What I Mean", now (streaming below). The band played their second NYC show in a row last night, 3/31, at Mercury Lounge with Magic Kids who didn't make it to the show the night before at Knitting Factory.

I came to see the cults at this show (who were great, of course) but I luckily got there early enough to catch whalebelly, who I'd never heard of before- what a nice surprise. This is why I live in NYC. They put on such amazing show with a combination of catchy melodies and folk rock, danceable songs with a dash whimsy thrown in. So refreshing. Apparently they're playing merc this sat too- I think I'm actually going to go see them a second time.

Whale Belly made the evening for me. Way to open it up with energy and start the night right.

Cults are awful live. I saw them at Knitting Factory the night before thinking I'd see two good shows, then I was hoping the first show was just a bad night. Then reality struck. They sucks asshole live. Missed Whale Belly. Superhumanoids were my fav of the two nights. (Member of LCD Soundsystem)

1:10, you clearly live a miserable life.

In my opinion, Cults sounded okay considering their lead singer was not there for their soundcheck. In fact, they had to go get her so they can start their set.

good to see that the kids got the van running

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 1:40 PM

I turned up expecting Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy........ disappointed.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 2:39 PM

Cults are overrated. 'Humanoids killed it. You BV trend followers won't even get their second album, if they make it that far. You'll be on to something else shitty in 2 years.

i saw cults once and intensely regretted it

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:48 PM

yeah, cults are terrible. i've had the misfortune of seeing them live, and more than once at that

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 10:56 PM

you two definitely didn't bang the singer before the show!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:02 AM

both bands suck live. they should learn how to do their own sound instead of whining about it on stage.

Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2011 1:01 PM

superhumanoids were far better than the other two.
