Cut Copy and a door @ Terminal 5
Cut Copy

NY PRESS: Every time you come back to the U.S., the venues seem a bit bigger. The shows at Terminal 5 sold out quickly. What's it like to see that progression?

Cut Copy: We've always found American audiences to be receptive. When we began, we were opening for people and it seemed when we started headlining all those people came back and brought their friends. It happened organically, as it should. It's not like we had a lot of press or hype behind that first record. It felt quite grassroots. We've found throughout the world we have such a loyal fan base. I never thought we would connect with an American audience. I'm not sure how it happened but it's amazing.

No dancey bands should have scheduled shows in NYC on Saturday, if for no other reason than they were probabably upset that they made it all the way to NYC on April 2nd, but couldn't go see LCD Soundsystem at Madison Square Garden, because they had to work. Daedelus and company played a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg that night, and Cut Copy and the DFA-signed Holy Ghost! played their second sold out show in a row that evening at Terminal 5. The other Cut Copy show was one night earlier, and Cut Copy will play the large NYC venue again, but with opener Midnight Magic, on Wednesday (also sold out).

The pictures in this post are from Friday and they continue, shot of Cut Copy's setlist included, and with more tour dates, below...

2nd ... dump of the day. I shouldn't have eaten all that Chinese food at midnight.

Posted by Lee Goldberg | April 4, 2011 1:30 PM

That's a really short setlist. I know Sun God is a long song and all but WTF?

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:30 PM

This sucked, and I'm not saying that because I didn't get into LCD. I wish I had, but I'm just sayin...

"2nd ... dump of the day. I shouldn't have eaten all that Chinese food at midnight."

And you'll feel like you're digesting a rock the whole day! Just like all the other BV clowns who post shit comments!

They put the exit on the stage so the band could walk out on their own set.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:38 PM

How long were their performances? That set list looks mighty short.

I was thinking about perving Craigslist for cheap tickets and combing the local middle school for a date but now I just don't know.

TERMINAL 5 is such a drag when attending sold out shows. The kids were out in force, probably blew their load on Friday , thats why we didn't see their annoying asses at MSG on Saturday. Cookie cutter show..boring.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:44 PM

Bondi after party rocked!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:47 PM

@1:30pm: The main set was an hour on Friday and they did two encores (the two songs listed above and then "Feel The Love") for another twenty minutes. It wasn't epic but it was substantial.

They really did put on a phenomenal show. I wasn't expecting much after seeing a video of their pool party performance, but they are now a lot more comfortable onstage. "Lights and Music" got the entire place moving and "Sun God" was even better live than on Zonoscope. Dan was thrashing against his upright patchboard like he was Dr. Frankenstein while Tim was pulling off some Hendrix moves, sodomizing his guitar with a drumstick and pulling the strings across the side of the stage.

Meaningless theatrics? Kinda, but these guys had no theatrics at all a year ago. It's great to see they've stepped up their game.

@1:51 great description. I thought they were tight and kept the crowd entertained.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:16 PM

It was a very short show just like the prior shows for a lot more money.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:34 PM

Had gotten tickets for saturday when they first went on sale - that worked out real well with LCD in town --- managed to dump the cut copy tix and make a couple bucks ---

mulling the idea of going on Wednesday but its sold out again somehow.

hmmm

Terminal 5 is such a shitty venue. Cut Copy was so much better when they played at Webster Hall.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:49 PM

Looks like a bunch of stock brokers on stage.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:55 PM

Stock Broker Rock is the new Lawyer Rock.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:59 PM

were they lip syncing like the did at Bowery a few years back. Their first record is great! Everything since then has been on the downslope!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:59 PM

"Looks like a bunch of stock brokers on stage."

That's certainly better than looking like a bunch of indie slacker losers who probably haven't taken care of their looks or hygiene for weeks on end.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:10 PM

that looks like a useless DOOR

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:22 PM

It was better when Bieber did it. Sorry...

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:05 PM

"It was better when Bieber did it. Sorry..."

It was better when the tyke's name wasn't mentioned in every place possible.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:14 PM

This isn't lawyer rock. Lawyers like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:25 PM

Great show. Got laid.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:36 PM

crap music. got laid anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:40 PM

How can anyone like this kind of music? I'm not hating. I really want to be hip. Can someone describe whats good about it, I can use some help.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 5:19 PM

I'm a lawyer and I like Cut Copy. Seriously...

(and I don't like Dylan or Springsteen all that much)

Posted by GW | April 4, 2011 5:52 PM

Cut Copy > Franz Ferdinand

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 5:56 PM

I like Cut Copys earlier work. Cut Copys later material is underwhelming and lacks sincerity.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 6:16 PM

Cut Copy sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 8:01 PM

She's screaming on the street and I mean loud, but she looked good. She had these violet eyes. I remember she's screaming, but mostly I'm looking at her eyes. They were just like Elizabeth Taylor's. That's what everybody said.

Posted by Henry | April 4, 2011 8:34 PM

Cut Copys pretty cool. I'd pay 5 dollars to see them.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 9:01 PM

Cut Copy rules!

Posted by Strokes fan | April 4, 2011 9:03 PM

all pussies. pussy music.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 9:15 PM

shit band, a perfect compliment to the shitty photographer who took these shitty, poorly-composed pictures.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 9:21 PM

Love the pics with this piece. Don't know why I never saw them before.
