Dean (& Britta) at Maxwell's (more by Chris Gersbeck)
Dean Wareheim

Dean Wareham continues his juggling act of playing Galaxie 500 songs one night (like he did at Maxwell's recently) and 13 Most Beautiful... songs the next (both with Britta Philips taking different roles). The pair play Hanover, Germany on Saturday 4/8, and after a couple days in South America, return to Europe before heading back to the US for some dates.

Those US dates include The Bell House on June 17th, where Dean will play the Galaxie 500 set. Tickets are on sale and if you have missed recent Galaxie 500 shows, Wareham suggests you make it this time: "We won't be playing this show of Galaxie 500 songs again soon in the NYC area". Dean playing those Galaxie 500 songs feels about as genuine as Jared Leto playing Kurt Cobain.

7:26, you are a total f--king idiot making one of the most inaccurate, elemantary analogies I've ever seen on this site.

Dean is not an actor, he is singing HIS songs!!

ps- I saw him perform this show last year and it was amazing. Stop b!tching and go check it out!

@12:17, i assume you're trying to be funny but the analogy has more holes than Pete Doherty's arm.

as the vocalist, Dean's got an inordinate amount of influence regarding what happens w/ G500 songs...influence that D&N don't have.

i saw Dean play these songs last year and it was a pretty amazing concert (and yes, I saw the original band a couple of decades ago too.)

Actually, on Friday 4/8, they're playing in Hanover, NEW HAMPSHIRE, not Hannover, Germany.

Dear post author,

Dean and Britta are playing their April 8 gig in Hanover NEW HAMPSHIRE, not Hanover Germany. I know this because I work at the arts center they'll be playing at.

So unless D&B are gearing up for the craziest doubleheader of performances in music history, you might wanna correct that.

Um, Dean sang, played all the guitar on, and wrote the majority of the songs in Galaxie 500. He has every fucking right to play the songs and he does it well. In addition he put out at least 2 solid classsics with Luna (Penthouse and Bewitched).

Damon & Naomi's post-G500 output bores me to death, personally (though I appreciate what they do with their publishing imprint, Exact Change, and Naomi is a fantastic graphic designer).

So, in short: go suck a hot, steaming poop log, haters.

I have seen him play this set. I'm not saying he doesn't have a "right" to perform these songs. Hell, Jared Leto himself could tour and do all Galaxie 500 songs and there's no indie rock rule book that says he can't.

What I was saying is Dean has lost any sense of the spirit that those records had. It just feels like such an empty gesture, which is hard to understand. The man still has the voice, his guitar playing never turned to the lame default blues bullshit that often strikes older players, and he doesn't seem to give a shit about money - it doesn't seem like a cash grab. It just seems like he doesn't care about those songs the way his fans do. There's an earnestness to Galaxie 500's music that left Dean a long time ago.

That said, I'd be at a Luna reunion in a heartbeat, perhaps because those songs always carried the smug indifference that I've come to associate with him.

Anyone know the set times for tonight?

Have to say..if this is truly his last G500 show in nyc then he really ended it on a high note. Britta's version of 'listen the snow is falling' was mesmerizing and he officially owns ceremony. Thanks d&b for a great performance at the bell. Those who missed it are less for it. It was also a nice night for my kid to celebrate his 21st.
