Are any of these bands good? I feel kinda in the dark here.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:39 AM

THE FUCKING WAKE

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:40 AM

fuck ya....summer!

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:41 AM

where's Drake?

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:42 AM

Some early promise here with Lower Dens, and especially Weekend, who fucking killed it at Mercury a couple of weeks ago.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:42 AM

yeah fuck you summer

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:43 AM

July 15th. Nuff said.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:43 AM

listen up y'all it's the fun lovin criminals

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:43 AM

Wow, July 15th is going to rule.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:43 AM

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU CUT THE BUDGET!

Last couple of years we had Wire, Superchunk, Polvo, John Fogerty.

Now we have shit I've never heard of , shit I've never heard of, shit I've never heard of and crap I don't care about (aka Sean Lennon).

I look at that photo of Henry Rollins on this page and that is the same expression I have on my face right now looking at a weak and desperate lineup created by people who have no money to spend on talent.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:45 AM

July 15th should be good, even if P4k didn't like The Radio Dept.'s set at Coachella.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:45 AM

I thought TBA plays the Seaport every summer. I'm suprised TBA didn't make this year's lineup

Posted by Dan | April 20, 2011 10:46 AM

yeah, honestly guys, this is terrible. new york city is over.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:46 AM

10:45 (1)
go die, aka move back to Kansas. fucking 'spot light' whore.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:48 AM

10:45 sure it's not as great as seeing Wire or Polvo for free, but I assure you Weekend were great opening for Wire a couple weeks ago and Lower Dens are also really worth checking out!

Posted by chris g | April 20, 2011 10:52 AM

Lower Dens and Dirty Beaches? I could be into that.

Posted by Rachel K. | April 20, 2011 10:52 AM

i know it IS lame to complain about free shows, but this is a really weak lineup. hopefully they'll be some TBA's that are good acts!? I mean, it's still a nice way to chill for a few hours on a Friday night, and maybe some of these bands will be good, but not promising!

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:53 AM

Underwhelming except for the Wake and Wire.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:53 AM

er..Weekend. not Wire.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:53 AM

remember when the seaport booked bands you've actually heard of?

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:55 AM

The Weeknd > Weekend

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 10:58 AM

Hey, I remember seeing Animal Collective before I even saw their name in the media. Then again, I was in my early teens.

Either way, happy to see My Teenage Stride!!!

Posted by citybug | April 20, 2011 10:59 AM

What is this shit? Last year we got Drake and Hanson!

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 11:02 AM

the number of free shows in the city this summer are really on the decline...too bad ... 10:45 said it best "this is what happens when you cut the budget" -- the people in charge of sponsorships for these gigs must really suck at their jobs. Why can't they raise more money to put into booking bands? It's frickin NYC. Some of these bands will be great, but remember when the Seaport Music Festival was like 10 weeks or so of really great bands? Battles & Deerhunter on same bill, The National, and yes Animal Collective.

Posted by back in the day | April 20, 2011 11:12 AM

the whole lineup sounds like a tuesday night at cake shop.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 11:12 AM

Wow, it's fucking nothing.

Posted by Joe Queer | April 20, 2011 11:22 AM

i am actually kind of stoked on this lineup

last summer i didn't go to a single free show, and there are at least 3 at seaport alone worth going to

the best part is none of these bands are going to bring an INSANE drake/hanson amount of people, so you can actually get a decent spot and enjoy the show

i'm fine with paying $ for wire or polvo

but lower dens july 1, weekend/the wake july 8th, and radio dept july 15... those are 3 shows right there worth checking out for free!

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 11:24 AM

i hope it's not too fucking hot this summer. i skipped so many free shows that i wanted to see last year since it was painful to be outside

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 11:26 AM

TBA got shafted before the festival even started? Ugh.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 11:35 AM

July 8 is the show for me. Missed The Wake @ the Bell House last year. Redemption! Saw Weekend opening for Wire. I'm sure they'll fill the night air with a glorious racket.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 11:45 AM

TBA jokes not so funny duh duh duh

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 11:53 AM

Where is the Ted Leo show? I want to know when an earthquake will hit NYC...

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 12:14 PM

I can't believe there are only 4 friday shows. will any more be added? This used to go for much longer.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 12:45 PM

TBA is funnier than hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 12:46 PM

guys, this is going to get drake'd.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 12:52 PM

Do u need tix for these?how do u get in to these?

Do u need tix for these?how do u get in to these?

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 1:10 PM

Weekend is the only good show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 1:36 PM

This is what happens when you people complain about taxes being raised. You can't have it both ways!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 1:45 PM

Yikes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 1:49 PM

7/08 & 7/10
The Wake & Weekend!
Pow wow!

Definitely checking that out

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 3:28 PM

im excited to check out sean lennon's band. i support them.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 3:39 PM

Excuse me government - please use my tax dollars for free indie shows, only. thank you

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 3:44 PM

BV - please send one of your minions to interview the people in charge of selecting this lineup. We would like to see them subjected to a thorough of degree questioning.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 3:48 PM

awful awful awful

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 6:12 PM

Sean Lennon sucks, Ted Leo sucks, but everyone else is cool in my book. It's another free summer show series so enjoy these while they last. You'll be complaining again when they're gone! Just shut up and go, then you can complain after if it really wasn't worth the 2.50 metro fare.

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 7:24 PM

the fucking wake

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 7:46 PM

Man i wish pitchfork didn't give the radio dept good reviews because i know it will be crowded. i just know it!

Posted by Anonymous | April 20, 2011 11:07 PM

Akron/Family!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:39 AM

Ghost of a saber tooth tiger were excellent when i saw them at the Rockwood.

i am definitely going to check this one out.

Posted by john | April 21, 2011 11:05 AM

WHAT? NO DRAKE??!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 3:24 PM

Lower Dens and My Teenage Stride are both awesome. Jesus Christ people, since when is "I've never heard of them" a criticism? Is only music pfork or whatever shoves down your throat worthy of attention? Seriously though My Teenage Stride is and has been one of the best bands in Brooklyn for awhile and they deserve a lot more coverage. Lower Dens is newer but they're great as well. Radio Dept and Asobi Seksu is also a great show. I honestly can't believe all the shit talking about this.

Posted by hojo | April 22, 2011 1:46 AM

one of the tba's is going to be lcd. i just know it.
