The Big Four

They hit the west coast last weekend, and now "The Big 4" will make the journey east for their second show together in The Bx. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth & Anthrax will play Yankee Stadium on September 14th. According to Metallica's site, "tickets go on sale Friday, May 6 at 10:00 AM via www.ticketmaster.com. Met Club members should log in for more information about a special pre-sale starting on Wednesday, May 4. Yankees season ticket holders will have their own pre-sale, also on May 4, starting at noon."

Hopefully by the time the NYC show rolls aroundm Slayer will have founding member Jeff Hanneman back in the fold, though he did made a brief appearance in Indio last weekend...

Slayer hit the stage and even the sun appeared slightly scared as it sank behind the mountains. They were the hardest and most relentless band of the day. Dave Lombardo's double bass drums were thunderous, not so much supporting but propelling the music as Kerry King delivered frequent guitar-shredding solos...They played a new song "America" (sp?) that fit right alongside the classics. As he has been since February, Gary Holt of Exodus sat in for guitarist Jeff Hanneman who is suffering from necrotizing fasciitis in his arm. To the crowd's great delight, Hanneman appeared and played during the last two songs of the set, "South of Heaven" and "Angel of Death". -[Seattle Post-Intelligencer]
Check out a video of "Angel of Death", one of "Am I Evil" and a trailer for "The Big 4" show, below...

This should have been at Randall's Island or some GA place.

Fuck the Yankees!

Actually fuck baseball!

Soccer > gay ass baseball

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 3:37 AM

Fuck you buddy. There'll be plenty of Field GA in front of the stage.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 4:07 AM

ummm no u fucker!

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 4:14 AM

OMG...what a bunch of fucking assholes these guys are. Yankee Stadium? Really?

Slayer just tour alone...jez

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 5:06 AM

Anthrax have not done a proper hometown show in years.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 5:31 AM

Maybe, just maybe these guys can give Yankee Stadium some lasting character...such an ice cold museum of a place that's half empty nearly every game.

Tear it up! Make 'em regret it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 7:08 AM

okay man, do you see almost ANY baseball game? they're pretty much all empty, not just Yankee Stadium!

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 7:30 AM

How much are tickets?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 8:40 AM

Big Four in CA was $99 GA, $199 VIP plus ticketmaster fees. Not sure about NYC...

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 8:51 AM

i haven't checked out the new yankee stadium for a concert yet, but i have seen a baseball game there and was VERY impressed with the amount of food selections- sushi, BBQ, pizza, traditional ballpark food!

one problem area however is, aside from the usual veggie burger fall back plan, the lack of vegetarian and vegan offerings

how about bringing in sabra or athenos as a sponsor of the big 4 concert? perhaps a hummus bar with do-it-yourself toppings and a pour your own tahini/olive oil dispenser instead of the usual ketchup and mustard dispensers placed next to the typical sauerkraut and onions

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 9:05 AM

@3:37 - typical metal fan. Homophobic comments with great grammatical skills. Fucking loser.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 9:15 AM

Megadeth and Slayer are the only 2 of the "Big 4" that play real metal.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 9:18 AM

"They played a new song "America" (sp?)"

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 9:22 AM

The Sword...now there's some epic metal.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 9:29 AM

first winter opening for sleep and now this...fucking awesome...going down to the blood bank see if i can start making some money to pay for this

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:05 AM

@915 what the fuck are you doing reading this post.

go listen to lcd soundsystem.

oh shit they broke up.

sorry they're fuckin horrible anyway.

go back to ohio.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:05 AM

More like the OLD four. Seeing old dudes play metal is hilarious, almost as funny as aging rappers.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:08 AM

What the hell is an LCD Soundsystem? Some Euro-trash techno rock?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:08 AM

I can't remember. Is John Bush back with Anthrax?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:10 AM

"one problem area however is, aside from the usual veggie burger fall back plan, the lack of vegetarian and vegan offerings"

Yeah. I just hate it when manly venues don't cater to progressive faggots.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:11 AM

Progressive faggots? This faggot progressed all over your mom last night, 10:11

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:12 AM

Anthrax should get a longer set since they are from NYC and many from the the Bronx itself.

Posted by Loop | April 30, 2011 10:13 AM

Thank god hipsters won't be at this shit. If they are....

Cell phone cameras have ruined concerts. Put your fucking phone down before I whale you in the goddamn gut, you dumb asshole.

GO eat your hummus and stay the fuck away from this show

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:20 AM

why on earth would they use a (generic) fender strat as their guitar of choice? it makes no sense. of all guitars, maybe the tele too, that least resembles the ones used by metal bands.

ftw?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:26 AM

"Progressive faggots? This faggot progressed all over your mom last night, 10:11"

Wow. A faggot and a witless necrophiliac.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:34 AM

It's not just hipsters that play with their phones at shows. All these fucking idiots wasting and ruining the shows for themselves, there are professionals filming and taking pictures that are almost always available on-line. But no every douche with a camera phone is now taking shitty pictures and seizure camera vids.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:34 AM

screw the haters, this will be fun. no, none of these bands are at their prime anymore, and Yankee Stadium is not the ideal venue, but for 80's metal fans, this will be a blast. if you're bitching, just don't go. seriously, what's the big deal!

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:35 AM

you losers must just sit around waiting for a new post to bitch about

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:51 AM

are we gonna be able to mosh?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 10:53 AM

For the record, Hummus is a very "manly" snack.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 11:03 AM

Yankee fans = annoying twats.
Pop metal fans = annoying twats.

Win. Win.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 11:17 AM

>but for 80's metal fans, this will be a blast. if you're bitching, just don't go. seriously, what's the big deal!

seriously? are you fucking kidding me? do you *not* read this post and did you *not* complete grade school grammar class you stoooopid eeeeediot?

let me as you this, my grammar challenged friend. what exactly is the 80 up top there holding on to? as in, why did you make it 80's. clearly you must have intended on making the 80 possess something, right?

'80s. '80s. '80s. get it straight.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 11:43 AM

it will be loud, it will be fast... it will be an awesome display of the power and glory of metal...

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 11:57 AM

Manowar are the true kings of metal

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 12:03 PM

I hate metal. But I'd take metalheads any day of the week over the mewling pussy hipsters who I'm stuck having the same taste in music with. But at least weepy hipsters are very easy to move out of the way if one wants to get closer to the stage.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 12:07 PM

LCD at yankee stadium?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 12:22 PM

When people start correcting total stranger's grammatical errors on a blog about a heavy metal concert, it's time to go outside and get a life.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 12:33 PM

God bless, Anon 12:03. Now if only Saxon and Helloween would tour?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 12:35 PM

11:17 = Annoying twat

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 12:41 PM

11:17 was really into the royal wedding (hence usage of the word twat over and over again)

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 1:14 PM

When I put my blender on the high setting, it sounds like a thrash metal guitar.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 1:33 PM

@11:43 you are an ass. this is a blog, you can abbreviate. and for the record i have a master's degree, so fuck you. if i wanna say 80's, i can. douche!

hahaha 12:07 hit it on the head.Wimpy mf'S.But 12:07 don't run into me at said show, because you will eat my elbow.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 2:03 PM

Yeah 12:07. You better not run into me either, cuz I will reach into your backpack and eat your hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 2:04 PM

The irony of this thread is that both hipsters and Metallica/Slayer fans are acting tough.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 2:20 PM

dont be the tool that wont come because its at yankee stadium it is the big 4

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 2:22 PM

metallica's site says, all seats reserved... great, will it sound like my stereo, where's the stage and will i be watching it on the jumbo tron?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 2:44 PM

5:06, telling Slayer to tour alone? Where the fuck have you been since the band's inception? They tour like crazy as the headliner with only 2 bands opening. Nothing new there.

This isnt the first time Slayer and Metallica have played together around here. They were both on the Tattoo the Earth tour stop at Giants Stadium in 2000.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 3:09 PM

Metalica and Slayer go together like chickpeas and tahini.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 3:57 PM

2:03 ftw

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 4:13 PM

James Murphy could kick all of Slayer's asses at the same time and then have Lars blow him.

He won't mess with Anthrax though - he's not that stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 4:59 PM

LOl I might just go to this simply to laugh at what this crowd will look like. Old long haired metalheads in leather with very little of that long hair left. Old fat ugly middle aged women with tats, cigarette stains and the overpowering smell of cheap perfume. Way too much makeup looking leather clad young ladies with their meathead bf's thinking they are tough and so with the times. And finally you round it out with a bunch of college nerds who claim to be up to date with metal but yet think it's so rocking to be at a fucking baseball stadium seeing a bunch of long in the tooth metal bands(although Slayer can still bring the goods)

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 5:29 PM

Is it any wonder that an article based on something like this (i.e. thrash, non-standard BV fare) would generate such shit commentary?

"The irony of this thread is that both hipsters and Metallica/Slayer fans are acting tough."

The difference is that the Metallica/Slayer fans will also try to act tough in person sometimes too. The trendy losers only can really do that just here and any other place where they're anonymous and/or behind a computer screen. If they tried that shit in real life, they'd probably be in the Intensive Care unit pretty quickly.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 6:44 PM

Damn if Metallica wasn't playing this would be the greatest show ever.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 7:36 PM

hey 11:43. you spelled ask. wrong. it's ask. ask. ask.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 7:45 PM

Why do i have to pay all this extra money just to see Slayer? I'm leaving as soon as their set is over.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 8:27 PM

Plus special guest DethKlok +5!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 9:02 PM

Slayer has been phoning it in for YEARS.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 9:07 PM

this is gonna be the sausage fest to end all sausage fests

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2011 11:09 PM

Who fuckin cares?

Posted by Klicka | April 30, 2011 11:45 PM

What's the difference between Yankee Stadium and a cactus? All the pricks are inside Yankee Stadium. James Hetfield & Dave Mustaine are born-again christians they should be playing with Amy Grant & Michael W. Smith not Slayer.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 1:40 AM

I love Metallica!!!!!

Posted by Corporate Gifts | May 1, 2011 2:57 AM

@9:07 Why for fuck's sake do you say that? I think Slayer would quite before they phoned it in.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 3:31 AM

LCD Soundsystem sucked.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 9:06 AM

MEGASLAYMETALLTHRAX SYSTEM Is a new super group that will bridge the divide between everyone leaving comments...if proper grammar is used of course and lighters are held up instead of cell phones.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 10:25 AM

Here are the problem with this show: Metallica hasn't had a full on metal album since ...And Justice For All. Megadeth hasn't had a decent album since Rust In Peace. Anthrax is too inconsistent with their sound. Just have Slayer play because they will destroy the place!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 11:30 AM

I think I'll hold out for SOUNDGARDEN...hopefully they'll play MSG.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 11:33 AM

Hey all you douche tooths. The big 4 are obviously Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. Fuckin duh!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 12:43 PM

They should just let Lombardo drum for the whole thing

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 1:34 PM

These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 1:54 PM

has anyone tried the frozen falafel balls from morningside farms?

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 3:51 PM

12:43, I'd say Tchaikovsky over Chopin. But that's just me.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 5:04 PM

What's the difference between Yankee Stadium and a cactus? All the pricks are inside Yankee Stadium. James Hetfield & Dave Mustaine are born-again christians they should be playing with Amy Grant & Michael W. Smith not Slayer.

May 1, 2011 1:40 AM

Yes thats true. Thought your words needed posting again.
Now that would be classic. Amy Grant with Mustaine and Hetfield.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2011 11:59 PM

10:08 -

but not nearly as funny as fauxhemians like you, in their prime, typing comments on BV

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2011 8:06 AM

Remember that pic of James Hetfield holding an Armani shopping bag while wearing plaid shorts and mandels.

Just google "james hetfield armani" - haha

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2011 12:03 PM

This is probably one of the worst collection of comments on BV for a long time, which is sad considering it reached 80+.

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2011 2:25 PM

Still can't get over the giant PUSS OUT on the part of the band/management and promoter. How the hell will a SEATED field work for this show?

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2011 2:29 PM

The floor is NOT seated.

Front G.A. floor: $225
Back G.A. floor: $175
Reserved lower level seats: $119
Upper deck reserved seats: $90
Additional Ticketmaster and facility fees will be applied.

Posted by Ken | May 3, 2011 8:18 AM

$90 for the NOSEBLEEDS? What a rip.

Posted by 1234 | May 3, 2011 11:37 AM

Ah, stadium shows ... because all the hipsters know that the sound will be sooo much better than T5 ... (:roll)

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2011 11:53 AM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 225 bucks plus fees to be on the floor upfront for this dreck. And 90 dollars plus fees to sit all the way up top where it will sound the worst and you have to watch video screens to see what is going on. I almost feel sorry for the stupid pieces of shit who are going to this.

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2011 11:59 AM

‎$225 for GA... Way to price it out of the ballpark!!

Posted by krantz | May 4, 2011 12:54 PM

Super-disappointed that tix are so much. CA Big 4 show tix were $90 ea. I'm glad I caught Metallica at MSG and the Slayer/Megadeth/ Anthrax show when it came by.

The Big 4 show sounds cool, but the reality is that the tickets are way overpriced for such a huge (and such a douche-filled) venue. Too bad. This could have been great.

Oh, and when did metal get so expensive (and excited about the Yankees)?????

Posted by Anonymous | May 4, 2011 1:02 PM

I wonder if Animal Collective will get added to the show...

Posted by Anonymous | May 4, 2011 5:13 PM

Im going to the show in NY i was going to see just Metallica but slayer and megadeath just add to the sickness.

Posted by Metalmainiac | May 13, 2011 9:07 AM

no mention of Dime or Pantera in any way, not even a tribute song..ridiculous and disrespectful

Posted by guidedbyvoices | June 26, 2011 12:28 AM

Big 1: SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 5, 2011 5:08 PM

Don't know why fans of one metal band have to spout off that their band is better than another. Surely there's enough space in the music business for all of them. Better more rock & metal bands than some of the other genres in my opinion.

Posted by vegan | July 19, 2011 10:36 AM

I've been waiting my whole life for this show! None of this negativity will bring me down. Here's what I'll be wearing at Yankees stadium!

http://www.cafepress.com/slegathraxica

Posted by BIGFOOT | July 26, 2011 2:03 PM

Can't fucking wait, not too exited for Metallica but from what I've seen they threw a lot of old stuff on the set list so hopefully they sound good. I like seeing people talk shit about the Big 4. It really put's a perspective on how idiotic the music industry has evolved metal into becoming. I don't see how putting your guitar into drop d and every song sounding the same makes these bands who can actually play their instruments suck, but it is what it is. People are just going to keep throwing money into the industry anyway and listen to what their told to. Looking forward to seeing Gary Holt play in Slayer. Jeff is a great guitar player, but Gary from Exodus to me is just that much better. THRASH TILL DEATH!!!

Posted by deathbyhanging | August 23, 2011 7:43 PM

i have 2 extra tickets. Section 222 Row 4 Seats 11 & 12. the ticket cost with tax and everything added up to $140 each. if anybody wants them feel free to email me at sesa7x@aol.com

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2011 9:59 AM

Saw 'em all back in the day - Metallica @ Lamours, Slayer (w/ Venom) @ Studio 54, felt absolutely no need to see any of them again especially at this price. I'm going to be there tomorrow with my guitar playing 10-year-old son. His favorite bands? Motorhead, Ramones, Hives, Metallica - in that order. Kids.

Posted by Vanya | September 13, 2011 1:13 PM

Does any1 kno about what time metallica will come on stage? Plzzzzzz?

Posted by G | September 13, 2011 11:11 PM

Cheap punks. I wipe my ass with 225. Keep your poverty stench away from my good time. I'll be rockin where jeter stands and I'll be sure to shit on third base. Keep your lack of great out of the city. 225 too much, please. Go spend your money on some henny, smack your bitch up, and don't foget to pull your pants up, It's illegal now white boyz.

As long as people are miserable, they will always find some way to sling shit as a means of (improperly) coping.

As it were, I wish it would happen, 2:34.

Hope the Big 4 kill tonight :)
