Dave Matthews Band

Like Chicago and Atlantic City, NYC & Washington will get iterations of the traveling festival with the extremely scary name (and headliner)...

"Dave Matthews Band Caravan" will come to New York City's Governors Island on August 26, 27 and 28 and The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA on September 2, 3 and 4. The events will feature a diverse lineup of musical talent performing on multiple stages during the day and a full set by headliners Dave Matthews Band each night. See below for ticket information.

In addition to Dave Matthews Band, the lineup for the Governors Island event will include Dispatch, The Roots, Gogol Bordello, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Josh Ritter & the Royal City Band, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, The Head and the Heart, Vieux Farka Touré, David Wax Museum and many more to be announced soon...."

At least the Flaming Lips, who play the NJ version of the fest, aren't on that lineup, because that gives hope that they'll announce their own real NYC show. "An online presale for the Governors Island event for members of the DMB Warehouse Fan Association will begin on Monday, April 25, at 10:00 AM ET at http://www.warehouse.davematthewsband.com/."

This is the second big Governors Island Fest to be announced this year. The other is the dance-oriented Governors Ball (Punk Island also returns this year).

Ironic that this would be a lot better if Dave Matthews wasn't headlining.

what, no Rusted Root?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 11:52 AM

I'm pretty sure that picture is from Red Rocks or somewhere else, but I've never seen that rock at the Gorge.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 11:53 AM

Brochella!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 11:54 AM

can we leave the bros trapped on the island?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 11:58 AM

I was ready to endure DMB band just to see the Flaming Lips. But now there is no Lips? What's the point?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 11:59 AM

As long as the Flips don't play T5, I am happy.

"run & hide"

Hide your kids, hide your wife?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:01 PM

hide your kids, hide your wife
and hide your husband
cause the dave matthews band caravan are raping everybody's ears out here

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:02 PM

Why isn't Darius Ruck a part of this shitshow?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:05 PM

you can run and tell DAT (dave matthews)

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:05 PM

Run & hide? I knew reading the dumb comments on his own site would go to BV's head eventually. "bro" comments for a lineup that inludes Trombone Shorty, The Roots, Robert Randolph, Vieux Farka Toure? If you are so afraid of the bros in the crowd, stay home. Dave Matthews appears to be much more enlightened than you are.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:05 PM

*Darius Rucker, excuse my faux pas

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:06 PM

darius rucker and dave matthews had a huge falling out after dave called "I Only Wanna Be With You" 'kinda lame'

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:06 PM

totally agree 11:52, I might see this if you could erase the headliner and the masses that go with them

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:07 PM

How come the run & hide warning isn't given when Animal Collective or Crystal Castle shows are announced?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:08 PM

Honestly I would prefer a Dave Matthews crowd over a fucking Animal Collective crowd

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:13 PM

^ agreed

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:16 PM

I would prefer to go to Bamboozle next weekend and hang with 13 year old girls from New Jersey than be among an Animal Collective crowd.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:22 PM

I'm just fucking psyched to have the chance to see Bela and the 'Tones again. Sick!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:23 PM

When are the Flips just gonna announce a NYC Soft Bulletin date?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:27 PM

I'm investing in a snorkel because I'll be drowning in pussy.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:28 PM

no big head todd and the monsters????? remember that band?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:41 PM

Photo is amazing

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:43 PM

shocking that Dave Matthews gets snarky comments from 'too cool' BV readers, but this is a very cool festival, it has some really diverse acts playing. I'm not a DMB fan, although i do really like the solo acoustic stuff he does with Tim Reynolds, but really, he has a cool collection of opening acts out there with him. For an 'alternative' music blog, ya'll are some close minded asses!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:46 PM

we are not close minded.....dave matthews just sucks...singin about the birds, bees and trees...i am sick of that shit...i think, as a person, he is a good guy. does a lot of good for the environment...but his music sucks donkey dick

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:48 PM

12:26, you'll do that all they way from you're little hometown of St. Louise? Stay there instead.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:49 PM

^^
you clearly don't come around here very often, do you? :)

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:49 PM

yeah, i've been and that's def red rocks. valiant effort at being funny...

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:50 PM

Man DMB is just awful, just...awful.

Posted by Slob | April 21, 2011 12:51 PM

brooklynvegan caters to some of the most diverse genres of music than most music sites even attempt to. the fact remains that Dave Matthews Band is just godawful music.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:53 PM

what time's LCD on?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:57 PM

MAN I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUT EARLY FROM MY STOCK BROKER JOB TO GO TO THIS I'M GONNA BRING ALL MY BEST BROS FROM SUNY (Oswego, Oneonta, Plattsburg, New Paltz, Albany) THAT LIVE HERE NOW IT WILL BE SO COOL DAVE MATHEWS IS GREAT F-CK THE HATERS!!!

(Et tu, Gogol Bordello?)

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:58 PM

White people love abusing their own children for photo-ops, then criticizing others for child abuse.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 12:59 PM

While I don't ever like listening to DMB, one who says the music is 'awful' is just a f--king idiot! Not hip, too mainstream, lame crowds...I get it. His band is probably more talented than most bands covered on this site. I'd even go as far as saying that DMB is more talented than ANY band to come out of Brooklyn in the last few years...suck on THAT!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:01 PM

Dave Matthews's best work was playing a retard on House ~!

Posted by Deano Bravo | April 21, 2011 1:04 PM

"12:26, you'll do that all they way from you're little hometown of St. Louise? Stay there instead."

Come at me bro....I dare you to fucking come at me bro.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:05 PM

12:58 has no love for Binghamton or Purchase?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:06 PM

@12:48 - i'm not a fan, but to say he sucks is ignorant. he's incredibly talented, his band is sick, and he can write some good songs. i challenge anyone to listen to the acoustic stuff he does with Tim Reynolds and say that it isn't amazing. but i'll agree, the DMB stuff is mostly uninteresting to me. i just get so irritated at the close minded nature of the fans here, like if it's not LCD or Animal Collective, it must suck.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:12 PM

blah blah blah blah blah I hope all of the above commentators are part of the crowd and don't come off this island and are abducted by aliens...AC destroys this mediocre boring predictable crap....love the Lips though

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:17 PM

Newsflash!!!! LCD IS F--KING LAME!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:17 PM

^ you act as though LCD and AnCo get no hate on here. They do. Quit your cryin'

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:18 PM

I hate Dave Matthews as much as the next card-carrying indie snob, but BrooklynVegan has some audacity being snarky about them when they've been promoting garbage like Oh Land for the past few months.

Dude, you're a fucking shill, don't pretend you have any fucking taste that matters.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:32 PM

It's funny to see Arcade Fire/LCD fans fight against DMB fans as to who's better. They all suck. Problem solved.

And although BV's coverage of music is very diverse, its commenters are mostly simpletons who don't listen to anything outside of bands who frequent Bowery Presents venues.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:36 PM

LCD reunion tour!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:40 PM

1:32, don't read then.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:41 PM

People that shit on DMB are worthless music fans and obvious no-talent hacks. I'm not even a huge DMB fan but they are some really fucking talented guys. Certainly better than 95% of the shitty NY indie scene bands.

Hate the fans because they suck ass? Yes, one of the worst fanbases ever. Dislike the music because it's not your style? Sure, I don't care. But saying the band sucks just shows you know nothing about music and/or are trying REALLY hard to be cool/impress that edgy chick who plays keys in a shitty punk band.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:49 PM

I am surprised Jack Johnson and Train aren't on the line up. This concert would be my nightmare.

Posted by The Real Real Yup. PERIOD | April 21, 2011 1:52 PM

lcd was special.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:56 PM

I heard Princeton was added to this. is that true?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 1:58 PM

1:32 PM is right. BV shouldn't make judgement call on the acts that our posted. Leave that to us commenters. Don't succumb to our level, Mr. BV, you must at least try to retain some kind of integrity!
Plus, we are funnier.

And 12:41, Big Head Todd was the shit.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:22 PM

WHAT'S UP BRO?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:29 PM

12:58 got really excited to write that at his job as "Creative Director's Assistant".

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:30 PM

white people's fest!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:31 PM

DMB seen sticking up on chickpeas at whole foods. Can anyone confirm?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:35 PM

I only like the taste of hot girls. The gross indie chicks from brooklyn taste terrible. like tattoo ink and hummus mixed with a wet beer fart. Fuck you all!

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:39 PM

1:32

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:45 PM

Indie rock unfortunately has lead to TERRIBLE looking girls. I mean, I hate 80's hair metal and wasn't really of age during that genre but, man, at least girls dressed up for shows. Now you're lucky if the girl standing next you bothered to shave her legs this week.

I'm sure it's the same for girls as well. Guys look terrible these days. Usually skinny-fat (skinny frame, beer gut) in cut-off jean shorts and balding with a beard.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:54 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:54 PM

Special guest daft punk

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:55 PM

I always wear a suit to concerts. I also get a clean shave from my local barber and apply some classy cologne. It gets a lot of attention and people think I am someone important.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 2:58 PM

jean shorts! i like jean shorts.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 3:09 PM

@2:58 you are being sarcastic and that would have been funny accept everyone is being sarcastic now and I was into being sarcastic before it was cool. Oh and your tattoos are ugly. Like your mother's vagina.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 3:16 PM

2:58, you're frohawk aren't you?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 3:20 PM

I love that photo of that kid.! classic!

Posted by Cape Rehabs | April 21, 2011 3:23 PM

I heard Tyler the Creator was added to the bill. Any truth to that?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 3:35 PM

I heard a chick sitting on numchucks was added to the line up. Any truth to that?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 3:37 PM

I heard two naked gay bears swinging on a tire were added to the show. Any truth to that?

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 3:41 PM

That giant rock in the photo looks just like a pita triangle. Is anybody with me on this???

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 4:04 PM

4:04 - you made me laugh out loud at work.
Nice.

And for the record, DMB sucks. I don't care how "talented" you are. You know who else is a "talented musician?" Kenny G - Fucking Kenny G. It doesn't make him relevant or good or anything but a fucking clown with a saxaphone. DMB is no exception. Plus, the bass player blows. Learn to play that thing you sloppy fuck. Seriously, are you people really going to defend the guy who wrote "I did it?" Fucking amateures...

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 4:53 PM

I did it
Do you think I’ve gone too far?
I did it
Guilty as charged
I did it
It was me right or wrong
I did it

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 4:57 PM

^ Hahahahahahahahaha... exactly.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 5:00 PM

Hahahaha thank you to 4:04, the pita triangle comment made me laugh out loud at work too. Great shit.

I don't listen to DMB, but I respect the shit out of him. Unfortunate the fan base is what it is (incredibly lame), but as an acoustic guitar player and singer he's incredible... not necessarily AMAZING at either (guitar or singing)... but combining the two he crushes it. Anyone who has tried playing/singing a bunch of songs knows what I'm talking about it.

Posted by The Dude | April 21, 2011 5:15 PM

seriously dave matthews is truly an artist. all the haters are just stupid who can't understand his lyrics. for example, did you know that Crash isn't about like, a car crash, but is a metaphor about sex, and love, and stuff.

"Oh and you come crash
Into me, baby
And I come into you"

It's because sex is so powerful that it's like a physical crash. Doubt that those pavement slackers could write a song with as much poignant symbolism as that.

Not that DMB doesn't know how to be straightforward and speak to the common man. I think the ants marching song is just about ants, since they like to march and stuff.

The only reason that I'm commenting on this post is to say that photo is FUCKING AWESOME.

Where did you get the photo from, BV? Thanks for posting it.

Album cover-worthy. Gonna right-click and save this. If I use it for any cover of anything, I'll give you props.

Posted by Anonymous | April 21, 2011 6:23 PM

Jump meet shark. The end.

BV comment section is the Sarah Palin of indie rock - consistently stupid, repetitive, ignorant, won't shut up, pisses everyone off, adds little value to overall society, embarrassing, immature, unable to hold basic concepts down, always fucking there, gives birth to retards but attractive enough that it is hard to look away.
