"Amazing time at the Garden. Still buzzed. Elvis was an officer and a gentleman. Thank you. Thankyouverymuch." - Julian Casablancas

The Strokes

As sort of hinted and then twitter-revealed right before the show, Elvis Costello (after he got done making a surprise appearance with the Secret Sisters at Irving Plaza), played a surprise opening set between opener Devendra Banhart and headliner the Strokes at Madison Square Garden last night (4/1). He only played three songs (starting with "Pump It Up"), but then he returned later to join the Strokes on stage for "Taken For a Fool" (that's Julian and Elvis together on stage in the picture above).

But this wasn't an Elvis show (he played his own show at Gramercy Theatre later in the night), it was about the Strokes. As Ms. Modern Age writes...

"I'll start with the end -- The very last song, in typical Strokes fashion, was "Take It Or Leave It" -- but this time singer Julian Casablancas took it upon himself to bring the music to the people - well, specifically to the people in the seated section stage left. Climbing up on the stage left speakers, and then grabbing onto the side railing, Julian positioned himself in the midst of the raised seated floor section, where upon everyone started grabbing on to him from behind.

At one point, Julian jumped down to the floor, and the barricade felt as if it were going to tip over -- terrifying me because that's where the handicapped folks were sitting. Luckily, Julian moved back up and further over into the crowd, bringing the rest of the song to the front section of the room, and a bit to stage right at the end, finally finishing on the stage."

Video of that & Elvis, more pictures and the full Strokes setlist, below...

This was brilliantly executed to go alongside my LCD show tonight. I hope Alberts the special guest

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:58 PM

The strokes stole the fire away from the LCD farewell show tonight.

This makes me angry.

Dim kids in the audience.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:30 PM

I saw The Strokes at Radio City (with the White Stripes opening) in 2002. I liked their first album, but seeing them play live left an indelible impression.
I thought they were a group of poseurs pretending to be a NYC rock and roll band.
They are so overrated; it's ridiculous.
BTW, I thought the White Stripes were fantastic!

was that the imposters backing up Elvis during the opening set? cause that fucking ruled.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:57 PM

Strokes new album sucks. So do all of you. Cut Copy at T5 was the shit. Fuck you all!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:58 PM

The new strokes does suck, but last night KILLED!!! They put on a way better show than I expected.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:03 PM

They were great at Lollapalooza last year.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:03 PM

Whoever was at that show and said it sucked must have been one of the many drunk children I saw falling all over the place at the Garden. The Strokes kicked it live in a BIG way. They were excellent.

Posted by Gio | April 2, 2011 3:04 PM

I never liked that song Juice box, but live, that song is epic! Epic show last night all around!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:16 PM

Julians fat. James Murphy is fat. Hipsters from Ohio like LCD and the Strokes. blah blah blah

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:27 PM

Excellent performance by The Strokes! I thought they would be rusty, but they never sounded so good. My only complaint is that I can't go again tonight

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:30 PM

I'm first too!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:30 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:31 PM

The Strokes are about as cool as cancer.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:44 PM

The only thing that could eclipse last night is if the Strokes come on during LCD tonight, along with Yo La Tengo, and all three bands start jamming together. How great would that be - LCD, Strokes, and Yo La Tengo? Then, the part that would make it awesome as fuck, a hijacked ICBM detonates into MSG, vaporizing the entire scene into a single note (a Gb, the most insincere of all notes) as James Murphy groans reaching for ... the ... last ... cheeseburger ... just ... out ... of ... reach

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 4:50 PM

The show was a complete let down. It didn't even feel like they were playing to a sold out crowd.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 4:54 PM

I'm still flyin from last night! what a party!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 5:09 PM

I agree, the only thing that couldve been better was if they played more songs. I wanted to hear Razorback, but if they cut songs for ELVIS to play, Amen to that shit!

You know you saw a good show when you go the distance and they leave you wanting more.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 5:12 PM

the show was out of control awesome! I haven't seen or heard a band that energetic since Nirvana in 92.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 5:14 PM

I tried to punch Julian in the face but he's too fast. the guy was raging all over the pit.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 5:20 PM

Razorback? Its RAZORBLADE you fuck! Oh, but thats right...you were one of those people last night who just got into the strokes and have no real idea about them.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 5:20 PM

Razorblades a great song! yeah, I wish they played that one too. Awesome show! Great photos BV!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 5:33 PM

I've seen Elvis in smaller venues before. He rules. But I never got to see him at MSG. That made my year! Thank you Strokes for the best April fools ever!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 5:38 PM

I wanted to hear SOMA. But not as bad as I wanted to hear Elvis at MSG.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 5:41 PM

Elvis Costello is music for lawyers and accountants. So is Bruce Springsteen.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 6:02 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 6:07 PM

I wonder when Devendra had the talk with his band and said.. "cut your hair or quit the band".

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 6:09 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 6:56 PM

It was a very awesome show. I thought that Devendra was pretty weak and I missed Elvis cuz of the crazy long lines to get booze (drunkenness has it's price!) but the Strokes were killer! Reptilla as the second song made me know the night was gonna be special. My only complaint is the four people to my right were sitting down and on there phones THE ENTIRE SHOW! I just don't understand why'd you'd spend the money on tickets and take seats away from real fans when you have no desire to really be there. Those folks aside, great show. Taken for a Fool live was really great as was all their old stuff. Please play Bowery Ballroom some time so we can really rock out in the pit!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 6:59 PM

didn't anyone notice how many times the singer fucked up? Forgetting lyrics, starting at the wrong place, not shutting the fuck up. Guitarist fucked up here and there too but its whatevs, didnt like the show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 8:30 PM

It was great, though I'm probably one of just a few people who wished they played more from First Impressions of Earth. I was really hoping to hear "Electricityscape."

Show was good, not great. Also, you can tell that they're more of a business than a band (which is fine, a lot of bands operate that way). They still seem to enjoy playing together which is a bonus.

Also, why didn't they play "Two Kinds Of Happiness"? That's the best song off the new record.

I dont get why people write about bands they dont like. Its useless. The Strokes put on one of the best shows of the year. I didnt mind watching Elvis kick ass either!

Posted by Anonymous | April 3, 2011 5:18 PM

I was there. One of the best shows of the year? Hardly. It was fine for what it was. But I can think of at least 5 other shows already this year that had (a) better quality sound, (b) better performances, (c) better venue, (d) better crowd, and (e) better set. To say that this was "show of the year" or any such nonsense makes you sound as foolish as the blind haters. Maybe more so, since even us that were there know that it wasn't.

Posted by Anonymous | April 3, 2011 5:21 PM

I'm glad 5:15 made that comment. It's true, the strokes connect with people of all ages of all kinds... kids, adults, moms, dads, fattys, skinnys, musicians, stoners, etc.

Thats the mark of a great fucking band!

Posted by Anonymous | April 3, 2011 5:23 PM

Hmm... 5.15 you are so far from the truth!

I'm sure that your mom would like the Stokes. She sure seemed to enjoy stoking my cock last night.

I've been a music fan all my life, and I gotta say that I just don't get The Strokes. Their first album was great, but they kinda lost me after that. I kinda feel like it's all hipster hype... like if you don't like the Strokes, you lose your Williamsburg membership card or something. I can name at least 20 current bands that do what the Strokes try to do, 10x better. They're not exciting to watch, they're not musically unique or interesting. Just attitude.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:04 PM

I took a nice shit this AM that gave me far greater satisfaction than the best Stokes song evar. The band blows, and if you like them you are an imbecile.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:09 PM

^Guess you were constipated...prunes help.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:10 PM

To add to 1:04, they are intensely mediocre, musically. Not a bad band, just not the best thing since sliced bread, like some of these postings would lead you to believe.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:12 PM

I was at the show, and the boys put on a pretty kick ass concert. The garden was a rockin friday nite. But am I the only who thought that the opening band was pretty decent? The audience was awesome, Julian being in the audience was even more awesomer (so jealous of those near him), and Elvis of course rocked, and the set list was banging (from what I remember). I have loved the Strokes for a few years now and this was my first time seeing them, wish it couldve been better and longer, and there were a few malfunctions by Julian, but otherwise, one hell of a show, can't wait to see them again.

But one word: EPIC!!!!!!!!

And to all the haters, why you commenting, get a life!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:13 PM

Those who love the Strokes do not love freedom.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:15 PM

^I'm a fan from Iran!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:16 PM

Was funny when Julian forgot where to come in during Last Night and forgot the words in the beginning of I Can't Win

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:17 PM

Maybe people who saw the Strokes and that it was awesomer or awesomest or whatever, have not been to a show by an actual GREAT band, and have nothing to compare it to? I saw the Strokes in 2002, and was bored to tears.

Hey 1:13 - if you consider anyone that has a different opinion than yours about the Strokes (or anything else) to be a "hater", I think that you are the one that needs a life, son. That is the sign of a feeble, maladjusted psyche. You maladjusted, yo!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:22 PM

I don't like the Strokes. But there are other people that like the Strokes. The people at MSG most likely like the Strokes.

There ya go. All has been revealed.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:22 PM

^ Maladjusted was a great Morrissey album!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:23 PM

The Strokes at MSG was an EPIC show .... if your idea of a swinging Friday night is watching the bug zapper and trying to guess the color of the next car to drive by.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:26 PM

My Bedford Avenue pass has been revoked because I publicly admitted that the Strokes are just OK, and that I just pretend to think that Kid A was better than The Bends.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:26 PM

While all ya Strokes people were blowing each other in the Port Authority waiting for your bus to take you back to Jersey, here's what the old man was doing across town:

I love how geographical location can somehow be determined just by what music you like or what albums of a band you prefer.

Some people need a life it seems.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:33 PM

In this case, music preference can be determined with an almost 70% accuracy.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:37 PM

I dont like the Strokes, but the haters on her are so lame, I'm starting to reconsider. Looks like they put on a tremendous live show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:40 PM

Julian in the pit for Juicebox was the highlight of the night.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:42 PM

Haters gonna hate, lovers gonna live the life.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:44 PM

Ahh, The Strokes. The band you love to hate. Only great bands are this much fun to hate on!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:48 PM

Albert Hammond Jrrrrrrrr....... I just came!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 1:50 PM

1:48, I will repeat what I said to you yesterday (7:50) to which you had no response (how could you?!?! you're a troll!) .... go take a look at the GYBE threads from a few weeks ago if you want to see what threads about awesome bands look like. your argument is incorrect, but you get points for keeping at it. like throwing shit against a wall, eventally one of the pieces is gonna look like Texas or some shit.

nice try. no soup for you.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:11 PM

anyone that disagrees with me is a hater
anyone that agrees with me is a lover

because i am the center of the universe

in my mind

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:13 PM

I love knowing I wrote most of the hate comments on here, and I LOVE THE STROKES! Lol! They're so much fun to hate, I can't help myself.

But seriously, that was the best show of the year!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:14 PM

^^ NOT

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

average show, mediocre band, imbecilic fans

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:18 PM

Hey 2:11! Nothing lamer than thinking you're talking to one of your dumb ass buddies on here, but here's some advice for you- make the hate funny. Don't just write some boring comment letting us all know what pathetic miserable existence you lead.

At least try! The Strokes are so easy to hate on! Give it a try, I bet you smile. Yuppie, I bet you do!

Posted by :) :) :) :) :) | April 4, 2011 2:18 PM

I've said it before, and I'll say it again- I will see any band with a drummer named Fabrizio in it! And, he does magic.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:22 PM

Ok, you got me! I'm just jealous I didn't get in to the pit.

you get soup.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:24 PM

^ OOOOOHHHHHH!!! a hater confesses! lol!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:25 PM

Wish I was there.

No I don't

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:25 PM

Strokes are the band of the future.
And will always be.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:27 PM

Fabriziooooohhhhhaaaarrrrgh! I just came in my pants!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:30 PM

wow! a lot of comments for The Strokes, and I dont even think Frohawk made the show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:32 PM

silly frohawk, strokes are for kids!

Smile. :)

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:34 PM

"Only great bands are this much fun to hate on!"

in a sea of stupid ass comments, that is the Queen fucking Mary of high seas stupid ass comments

it takes a real doofus to think that this is actually logical.

WHAT A DOOFUS! HA HA! LOOK AT THE DOOFUS!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:35 PM

assphinchtersayswhat?

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:37 PM

"my only complaint: during taken for a fool i could barely hear elvis"

agreed, that was a bummer

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:42 PM

I'm Julian's sneaker-tech, and he wants me to tell you he loves you all, and you should hate on Albert more. It makes him laugh, and he hates Albert offstage anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:56 PM

The thing I love about the strokes, is they have a hilarious sense of humor about themselves. Anyone that was at the show, knows Julians a charmer. More bands on BV should have a sense of humor about their bands, cause in the end, everybody gets stomped on here. It's awesome and that's why this blog rules.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 2:58 PM

of course they have a sense of humor! look at the outfits they wear!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:00 PM

^^^
and the sneakers!
no offense, 2:56

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:11 PM

Aren't those sneakers hilarious!?! lol! Julian wanted new converse, but I talked him into wearing those. They glow in the dark too. If you were at the show, you saw that shit. I got mad skills yo!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:14 PM

I wanna get some Jessica Lea Mayfield skank on ma fingah

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:14 PM

I don't hate the Strokes, so I'm not a "hater". I just think they're OK, and don't really get all the adulation. It's probably because I do not have a vagina.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:19 PM

^ its probably because you dont get vagina! OOOOOHHHHH!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:21 PM

Native New Yorkers: Lou Reed, The Ramones, Kiss (although Gene was born in Ha Aretz), NY Dolls .....

Pussies: Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Soup Nazi, Charlie Sheen, Osama Bin Laden ....

Good guys win!
Bad guys die!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:27 PM

My last comment was held by the moderator. I'm not sure what I said that was offensive, other than the fact that I said that they would not let me off the L train at Bedford because I was overheard saying that the Strokes and LCD Soundsystem are overrated.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:34 PM

B&T people take letter trains
Real New Yorkers stick with the numbers

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:38 PM

Definitely reconsider 1:40

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:42 PM

3:38, your logic makes no sense. Last I checked, the "number" trains cross over bridges and through tunnels to get to outer boroughs. Just sayin'.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:43 PM

HA, anybody who was at that show could Julians sneaks from a mile away, especially when they did that one song and the whole theatre was dark, all you could see was bright yellow on the floor of the stage

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:49 PM

3:43 - you are compelled to persuade an anonymous poster BV that their logic is flawed ... m'kay. Do you talk to sock puppets too?

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:49 PM

I pissed in Julian's mouth after the show. He asked me too. Apparently he's into that kind of thing.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:51 PM

^ No, but I talk to yo momma.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 3:51 PM

3:27, add Type O Negative and Biohazard to the 1st category there.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:02 PM

3:27, add Run-DMC, Anthrax, KRS-One, Blondie, Talking Heads, Wu-Tang Clan, Patti Smith (well, technically she's from NJ, but she gets a pass) to the Native-New Yorker list.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:12 PM

Did I hear someone say ABE FROHAWK was there???

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:13 PM

I was at the Elvis Grammercy show. It was alright. The last show I saw there was Stone Temple Pilots, and they put on a better show!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:16 PM

If I had to bet money on who would win a fight between Albert and Julian, I'd pick Julian. Alberts the pussy. Have you heard his solo albums? What a pussy!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:20 PM

Strokes at Terminal 5 soon...

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:22 PM

The Strokes are the Bon Jovi of hipster music. Interpret that however you want.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:24 PM

the quality of snark has gone down dramatically.
it must be the golden shower hour (between school getting out for the day and mom getting home).

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:28 PM

the word snark hasn't been cool since Dane Cook shared the stage with Abe Frohawk.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:36 PM

YOU CAN HATE, BUT WE'VE GOT A CITY TO LOVE!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:38 PM

The Strokes are the iceberg lettuce of rock. I put them up there with Nickelback, as most average band.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:40 PM

NICKELBACK > WINNING

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:42 PM

4:36 - case in point (re. 4:28)

also, you are trying too hard with the Abe Frohawk schtick. Just because you think it's funny and that it should be a meme doesn't mean that it is funny or that it should be a meme. This, is fail.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:43 PM

The Strokes, ah what can I say about them?

Yeah, me too.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:44 PM

^ he already succeeded. Abe Frohawk is everywhere...

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:45 PM

sorry loser, one guy cross posting does not a meme make.
Nice try though.
Or Not

No Soup For You!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:47 PM

HAHAHA. I'm the no soup guy! I wrote one post and now everyone is using it! HAHAHA

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:52 PM

and I love The Strokes! I love soup and Strokes on a mid-summer day. Yup, soup and Strokes make me smile!

:)

Posted by The Original Soup Nazi | April 4, 2011 4:56 PM

For anyone wondering, the guy who posts endlessly about frohawk is the same guy who posts hummus, who?, T5 sucks, GBV is old and whatver else you can think of.

His name is Ed Tonies, he is on my floor at my dorm at NYU. He admitted this to me a couple nights ago and was bragging about it and was showing me how he can't even post from his his iMac anymore because BV blocked his home IP address. He posts from his iPhone and takes his Macbook to the Starbucks near Washington Square park while he studies and posts these comments in his spare time. Find him on Facbook and give him sh!t!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 4:58 PM

I'd defy anyone to guess my musical tastes from my geographical location!!!!!!! Actually impossible if I don't tell you where I am. Haha

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 5:37 PM

How can we get Fabrizio inside terminal 5 long enough to burn it down? kill 2 birds...

Posted by Big Strokes Fan | April 4, 2011 5:43 PM

Amazing how Elvis looks like the long lost twin of the late great Ian Dury...

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 5:56 PM

Elvis is a troll! Who listens to Elvis!?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 6:01 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 6:09 PM

fuck you for wanting to kill Fab

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 6:50 PM

hey i'm in like 3 of these pictures! :) the concert was sick and probably one of the best nights the set list was just awesome and it was overall amazing. met julian & nikolai before the concert which was absolutely crazy! and to the haters, why bother hating? go write on some other blog for a band you like and see what it's like to have haters. unless of course you hate music because that would make a lot of sense since you hate the strokes...

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 6:57 PM

6:57 you're pretty fucking proud of yerself, aren't you sister? Well, if you were stupid enough to allow yourself to get photographed you are not smart enough to post here. THIS IS ANONYMOUS, PUSSY!!1!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 8:33 PM

Stop shitting with my fuck. The Strokes rocked!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 8:59 PM

If you think the Strokes are good, just wait until you actually hear some REAL good music. Your heads will explode.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 9:06 PM

The Strokes : music :: dick cheese : a starving man

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 9:08 PM

I saw Julian at Terminal 5 on his solo tour. He was awesome, but it wasn't like the Strokes. He's at his best with the Strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 9:16 PM

The Strokes are awesome in a eat-out-a-man's-asshole kinda way. actually that's ot awesome at all, that really sucks. so do The Strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 9:24 PM

Stokes suck

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 9:35 PM

4:58 outed the hummus barron and no one even cared. Amazing where your idiot priorities are

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2011 11:49 PM

That's because the hummus thing totally blew it's load like 30 seconds after the first post.

kinda like the Stokes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 7:33 AM

This is a question for all the Strokes fans here. And I'm not being sarcastic or a "hater" when I ask this. I'm genuinely curious about this, because I just kinda find them to be "ok". Can you honestly say that you like every track on the last 2 albums, or are you a fan just because the first album was really good?

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 8:58 AM

..or is it just because they're cute boys?

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 9:16 AM

Strokes fans are totally gay so answer (b) (above) is the real answer regardless of their posted apologies.

Just keeping it real.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 9:26 AM

At the time when they released the first album, they were heralded as a "return to rock n roll". The album was good. So I get the hype. Back then.
But then much better rock n roll bands came out and consistently released great material (i.e. White Stripes, Black Keys, and even the Hives), while The Strokes released ok albums (actually one really crappy album, and two ok albums). So, I don't get it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 9:37 AM

For us to live any other way was nuts. To us, those goody-good people who worked shitty jobs for bum paychecks, who took the subway to work every day and worried about their bills, were dead. They were suckers. They had no balls. If we wanted something, we just took it. If anyone complained twice, they got hit so bad they never complained again. It was routine. You didn't even think about it.

Posted by Henry | April 5, 2011 9:50 AM

Thanks Mr. Hill.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 9:55 AM

meh

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 9:55 AM

No one answered 8:58 with a real good argument, except that the fans are "gay". I suppose sexual preference might be part of it, but I'm curious to see if there's actually some substance behind why people actually like this band.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 9:59 AM

You got yer answer. Why, are you a pussy too?

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 10:05 AM

No one answered me. I want a real argument why someone likes the Strokes. same goes for Elvis Costello. Is there actually some substance behind this music? It's boring hipster rock. No substance. Glad I wasn't at this show BWHAHAHAHA

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 10:14 AM

if we can get The Strokes and Elvis Costello in to Terminal 5 for at least 30 minutes... I know we can burn it down. kill 3 birds...

Troll Troll Troll Trom Tram Tpam Spam Spam Spam Spam

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 10:21 AM

The only thing I see here, is some people genuinely like The Strokes and Elvis Costello. Some people don't.

and 2 haters, (or 1 refreshing the page like a 8 year old) think they're targeting one person for liking something they don't, like they're bullies on a playground.

If this satisfies you, you need to reflect on why you're so unhappy with your life.

Keep refreshing the page, you're pathetic.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 10:44 AM

Why do you hate freedom?

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 11:11 AM

The only thing I see here is some people genuinely like the sight of their own words, and some people fall for the bait.

Ain't nothing wrong with freedom from where I sit.

And 10:44: (a) you are one of the first group I described above, and (b) if you think that it's one person that is writing all the comments then you really have not been around here long enough. The place is full of idiots including you and me.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 11:26 AM

8.58 I'm a fan- loved every track on rooms on fire, skip maybe 3 on fioe and skip one track on angles- but you know what? How many bands release an album where every single track's a killer? They are a rare commodity!

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 2:40 PM

The people who post all these unconstructive pissy comments on BV fatigue me. There is nothing constructive or remotely interesting about your opinions.

It remind me of when a three year old walks around calling everything poopy because in their limited, underdeveloped mind they think it sounds funny.

Anyway, I am longtime fan who has seen them a number of times over the years and I agree with an earlier poster that it was a great show but no their best. But in reference to time and place, it seemed pretty epic to me. (My point of view is that they were the nice guys in a up and coming band in the early 00's who lived down the street and hung out at similar places in the east village were now playing MSG!)

The guys were in top form and their oddball charm shined through (Julian's slurry goofy asides, Nick's rock star swagger, niko's stoic stature, fab's boundless energy and albert's mod sense of style).

It was a fun show and I think that in the end that is what matters...

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 2:51 PM

Agreed! A voice of reason!

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 2:57 PM

<--8:58. To 2:40 and 2:51. That's all I wanted to hear... fans that gave good enough reasons why they like the band. Personally, I like a couple of songs, but they're not my thing.. But everyone has differing tastes in music, and I can respect that. I just wasn't sure if it was a thing where the hype from the early aughts overextended itself, or if there was actually something there.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 5:01 PM

5:01=WINNING

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2011 5:05 PM

Strokes fans preaching about this show's "greatness" = Nickelback/Hoobastank/Maroon 5 fans preaching about those shows' "greatness"

Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2011 8:14 PM

Contrary to popular belief, I am a huge strokes fan and did not care too much for 'Is This It.' Its my least favorite album of theirs, and of course youre not gonna love every track of theirs from every album, its impossible for any musician to have that much perfection.

"The guys were in top form and their oddball charm shined through (Julian's slurry goofy asides, Nick's rock star swagger, niko's stoic stature, fab's boundless energy and albert's mod sense of style)." SOOO TRUE and thats why I love them!!!!!!!!!

Posted by toast | April 22, 2011 5:36 PM

You mean to tell me that there are people who think the Strokes are good who are over age 14, and/or not at least mildly retarded?

Posted by Lemmy | April 22, 2011 11:50 PM

The Strokes are mindlessly overrated! They are mediocre. When I ever heard they played MSG, I simply couldn't believe that so many people are susceptible to this hype.

Bottom line....the music is forgettable and the performance is amateurish.

The Strokes playing MSG.....is the world ending?

Posted by In The Know | May 3, 2011 11:24 AM

To those talking garbage about Julian making mistakes, thats why we love. He is our hero, clearly you need to find a new band.
