Secret guest at the Strokes show??

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:47 PM

Since The Strokes all hate each other anyway, wouldn't it be cool if for the encore they just get into a fight and have a huge throw-down (Bobby Flay style) on stage? Who do you think would win?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:48 PM

i dunno but CABS ARE HERE

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:50 PM

^ I bet Nicolai (bass) would win -- He looks part-Frankenstein to begin with.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:50 PM

I think Nikolai would win by out-weirding everyone.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:50 PM

Kickball Katy and Frohawk are the special guests

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:52 PM

Nikolai is suddenly everyone's favorite Stroke (and don't lie faggots, everyone has a favorite Stroke)

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:54 PM

Definitely Nikolai, he's got that whole Die Hard Russian badass thing going on.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:54 PM

wouldn't it be funny if they all actually had Strokes onstage from all the drugz they do LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:55 PM

I'll bet Albert would be the first one to get knocked out in the fight. He just looks like a pussy

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:57 PM

Jules has fat legs...and yes, I like to call him Jules

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 3:59 PM

"I'll bet Albert would be the first one to get knocked out in the fight. He just looks like a pussy"

lol!

Posted by James Bond | April 1, 2011 3:59 PM

hey man...only i can have a fffwwwwwooo-down...

Posted by bobby fWay | April 1, 2011 3:59 PM

set times for Union Pool?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:00 PM

Valensi would probably refuse to fight, he seems like he would just stand in the background and bitch.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:01 PM

Yeah bro, you're cool

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:01 PM

Wad-r-u, a HOMO!!!

Posted by "Dice" Godfrey | April 1, 2011 4:04 PM

seriously? the dice hanging out of the back pocket mixed with the metal band shirt on under the leather jacket? dude, wtf? is this what the stylist is recommending to you these days? 'cause there's no effing way you ever listened to metallica at your little prep school or growing up around dad's models.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:05 PM

Don't fuckin Jimmie me Jules! There's nothin' you can say that's gonna make me forget I love my wife. Now she's workin' the graveyard shift at the hospital. She'll be comin' home in less than an hour and a half. Make your phone calls, talk to your people, than get the fuck out of my house!

Posted by Jimmie | April 1, 2011 4:06 PM

the jokes

HA!!!!!

i am funny

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:07 PM

AGNOSTIC FRONT > Strokes

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:09 PM

The Strokes Rule.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:10 PM

I like the dice.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:11 PM

@ 4:05,

Thanks for the advice Miss Jade. I'm sure he'll remember that when thousands of girls are screaming for him tonight.

No girl will ever touch you in your lame Sun O))) shirt

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:11 PM

Andrew "Dice" Clay was the first comedian to play The Garden.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:13 PM

Actually Julian listened to mostly metal until his late teens.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:14 PM

elvis costello is the guest at the strokes show tonight

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:15 PM

Dice Clay > Agnostic Front

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:15 PM

the Strokes suck balls

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:16 PM

Kickball Katy's Cans are opening

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:16 PM

Julian would look cooler if he was black and had a frohawk

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:16 PM

Stacks was always crazy. Instead of getting rid of the truck like he was supposed to, he got stoned, went to his girlfriend's and by the time he woke up, the cops had found the truck. It was all over the television. They even said they came up with prints off the wheel. It was just a matter of time before they got to Stacks.

Posted by Henry | April 1, 2011 4:17 PM

I'm going with Fab to win the fight. I've seen him punch latino dudes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:17 PM

Katey Segal
Kickball Katy
Katy Perry
Steely Dan (performing their 1975 lp Katy Lied in it's entirety)
Kati Roll
Frohawk

Beacon Theatre

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:26 PM

I was gonna be busy all day: I had to drop off some tahini at Mahmoud's to match some sesame seeds he had gotten. I had to pick up my brother at Sahadi's and drive him back to Piano's for Daft Punk that night. And then I had to pick up some new Lebanon stuff for Kickball Katy to fly down to some customers I had near Bushwick.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:31 PM

Do go on, Henry.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:38 PM

Stokes Pussy Fight.
I might even pay to see that.
Sure beats the fuck out of them playing.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:39 PM

lots of strokes tickets available on ticketmaster right now---pulling lots of obstructed view seats in the 100s and 200s if you're into that sorta thing

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:41 PM

2 costello tix for sale at face, loge, willing to meet for beer before the show. Uhm, if there is interest then i will put them on CL for the BV poster or someone make it work.

Posted by BLG | April 1, 2011 4:41 PM

Touché, 4:31, Touché indeed.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:44 PM

So I guess this is really gonna be The Strokes only NYC date. Really guys? REALLY???

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:47 PM

Given that most people who read this site are in their early 20's, The Strokes are the reason why we all love music.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:53 PM

what time do yall think strokes will go on?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:53 PM

^ we can only hope and pray that it is.
but you are correct, vigilance is the cost of freedom (from the cacophony of horrible pop music known by "Strokes")

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:54 PM

@4:53(a) you are in fact high on drugs, right? I mean, you are not THAT delusional, are you? The Strokes fucking blow dead donkey dick, and can't even keep that up.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:56 PM

4:53 has a point. The Strokes were a beacon of hope in 2001 when everyone was rocking out to Puddle of Mud, Staind, Linkin Park and a horrid assortment of bubblegum pop.

Now if only they could stop tripping over themselves...

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:57 PM

Room on Fire was great. Angles sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:57 PM

agnostic front is a combo of hummus-based diarrhea, herpes from the lid of a t5 toilet, and telepathe's live/on-stage sound engineering problems.

the strokes are all of the above but add some chili dogs and tres leches haagen-dazs that got left in an underpowered cooling unit inside teh LCD tour bus

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:58 PM

4:56 is a Linkin Park fan. He's still mad at his father.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 4:58 PM

Room on Fire and First Impressions rocked

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:00 PM

$:56, I'm just saying that The Strokes will always be the band who made me feel like I could do anything. i probably wouldn't even be living in NY if it wasn't for them.

They are the first modern hipster band, so naturally everyone has to turn on them

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:01 PM

meant 4:56, not $:56

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:02 PM

Nirvana > Strokes

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:02 PM

Angles isn't good, but tonights show will be awesome!

Posted by Jules | April 1, 2011 5:04 PM

Bay City Rollers > Strokes
Whitney Houston > Strokes
Yo Gabba Gabba > Strokes

ad infinitum

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:07 PM

I guess it's when God makes the impossible possible. And I'm sorry Jules, but I don't think what happened this morning qualifies.

Posted by Vincent | April 1, 2011 5:07 PM

Most of you pussies bought skinnies and a beat up leather jacket because you saw The Strokes on tv and thought they looked cool.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:08 PM

4:58 loves glory holes

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:09 PM

"i probably wouldn't even be living in NY if it wasn't for them."

HA HA HA HA that's great. So the Stokes are the reason why you moved here?

Right there is the reason this City isn't cool anymore.

Fake Wannabees follow a fake wannabe band and the L.E.S. fills up with poseurs.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:10 PM

yeah, Stokes are for pussies.
they deserve each other.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:10 PM

Does anyone who comments on this site even like music?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:10 PM

Strokes like hummus?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:11 PM

Why don't all of you people that "moved here" go the fuck back to where you are from?
Seriously
Get the fuck out.
And take those Strokes with you.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:11 PM

Stokes IN the hummus, as in
"Who Strokes in the hummus? It's RUINED!!1!1!!!"

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:12 PM

Drew Barrymore is the special ho tonight

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:14 PM

The Strokes at MSG! FUCK YES!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:14 PM

that bitch is CAH-RAY-ZEEEE!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:15 PM

I moved here because of the show "Friends". That Phoebe was so funny.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:15 PM

Kurt Cobain > Julian Casablancas

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:15 PM

5:11,

I like it here too much to leave. I'm pretty sure I make more money than you as well.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:17 PM

Room on fire is the reason I bought a guitar. Angles is the reason I sold it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:18 PM

I am a loser, I drive into the city, but I find most people who "live" in the city know shit about the "city" and need to be gone. Sorry, but it is true. I have no problem talking about different things with people who "live" there, then find out they know jack shit and don't take advantage of what it offers. It is truly sad and I pity those people.

That said, Elvis FTW tonight and I feel bad for my friends who opted for "obstructed view" strokes tix over Costello.

Posted by BLG | April 1, 2011 5:18 PM

lcd might be playing a few songs at that party later.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:18 PM

Have fun watching Elvis play his boring Jazz songs. I'll be enjoying The Strokes

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:21 PM

5:17 - don't count on it

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:21 PM

Angles is a grower... keep listening, its killer!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:22 PM

Meet me at Jay St Station and we'll count each other's money, pussy

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:22 PM

I hope most of the set tonight is from Room on fire.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:23 PM

Strokes or Interpol?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:24 PM

If you moved here because of a song or a band or a TV show, you are a dumb motherfucker.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:24 PM

I hope most of the setlist tonight is made up of Is This It, Little Joy, and the Julian solo record

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:24 PM

I moved here because of Agnostic Front

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:26 PM

I moved here because that's where the job was.
for the Strokes fans, a job is the thing that dad had where he went during the days before "special time" in your room when he got home (after a few pops)

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:30 PM

I saw the Stokes a few years ago. Do they still suck balls?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:31 PM

The Strokes always put on a fuck great show! I cant wait!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:31 PM

The Stokes are the Dirty Sanchez on the face of the New York music scene.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:32 PM

5:31(b) you are 15, right? I've seen the Strokes. They are boring and redundant and just bad music.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:33 PM

can't believe u people actually think the strokes are gonna show up at msg.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:33 PM

The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem? Todays music is dead.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:33 PM

LOL, all of you guys shoved your fat legs and stinky balls into girl pants because you thought Fab was kewl. Now you are all too cool for school.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:34 PM

Kickball Katy could kick all of the Stokes asses at once, Chuck Norris style, and then have enough time to rub one off before her gig at Brooklyn Bowl later that night.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:34 PM

I saw the Strokes back in 98 at the Mercury Lounge. The band was killer back then!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:36 PM

Elvis is with the Imposters, so no Jazz tonight... rock baby rock

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:36 PM

Elvis Costello = Dad rock

Strokes = Reason we all live in New York

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:37 PM

I saw The Strokes at the Little Steven Underground Garage thing a few years ago, sandwiched between NY Dolls and Iggy & The Stooges. Them old guys totally embarrassed the Strokes, just being themselves. Iggy was so fucking awesome the Stokes literally just disappeared into the ether as soon as the Stooges played one note. Fucking children.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:37 PM

Everyone in NY loves The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem. Pretty lame if you ask me.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:38 PM

5:37(a) - You don't speak for me, fool. Fuck off.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:39 PM

Buster Poindexter and a fat bald Jewish guy are not the NY Dolls. Iggy is amazing though. Can't rag on him.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:39 PM

You haters can write dumb shit on blogs while I party with Charlie Sheen at the Strokes tonight! I feel sorry for all of you

Posted by hint | April 1, 2011 5:41 PM

Everyone in NY loves The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem, but pretend that they don't . Pretty lame if you ask me.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:41 PM

I will take Elvis as dad rock, no problem there, but seeing Strokes in nosebleeds compared to Elvis in a 600 cap venue, you don't need to even question it.

Those who have pit, good for you, enjoy the rank, but I just couldn't be bothered.

I hope to meet a lot of these BV posters. Everyone seems so awesome and down to earth...which is totally NY.

Posted by BLG | April 1, 2011 5:42 PM

Julian Casablancas > James Murphy

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:43 PM

Nice @5:41

Posted by BLG | April 1, 2011 5:44 PM

Why do they both use that stupid microphone? Is that a NY thing?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:44 PM

Wait, so you're going to hang out with 599 other dads tonight instead of seeing a band that is still making decent music?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:45 PM

I have it on good authority that Tom (of the infamous "from Brooklyn Bowl" thing on BV) will be at the Elvis Gramercy show tonight. I talked to him today, and in his words "Elvis rocks. No pussies gonna be at that show".

So there. Tom said it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:45 PM

Anyone know set times for strokes show tonight?

Posted by Jibbs | April 1, 2011 5:46 PM

Why are we not focusing on the real enemy?

Who the fuck other than lame Social D fans wear dice attached to their keychain?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:46 PM

I remember the Little Steven Underground Garage Show. The Iggy and the Stooges were on fire.

After the crowd rushed the stage for Iggy, some numb skull jumped doc martin first into to the crowd and knocked me unconscious. When I came to on the rails, Iggy was in front of me telling me to sing through the pain and sing the chorus of "I want to be your dog" with him. Punk rock!

Julian was off(drunk)that show. They do put a good show but it is hard to match Iggy Pop. He is a beast.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:46 PM

I love Elvis Costello and The Strokes, but only one is still making great music.

Posted by I heart Strokes | April 1, 2011 5:47 PM

Anyone know set times for strokes show tonight?

Posted by Jibbs | April 1, 2011 5:47 PM

Julian is a punk. Not in a good way.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:48 PM

Wow 546 (b)

Some douchbag with a forhawk actually suplexed me at that show. Fabrizio came out and told me to sing through the pain, then he blew me

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:48 PM

WHO GIVES A FUCK WHAT TIME THE STOKES GO ON TONIGHT?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:49 PM

The more drunk Julian gets, the better he sings. If they are on schedule, Jules is finishing a bottle of whiskey right now.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:49 PM

I'll listen to any band with a drummer named Fabrizio in it! Does he do magic as well?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:50 PM

The Strokes are constantly overshadowed by Kickball Katy kicking things. Sux to be the Strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:51 PM

Is a forhawk like a frohawk? I've never seen a forhawk.
Forhawk ain't no haircut I've ever heard of. They cut layered in Forhawk?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:52 PM

Fabrizio fro The Godfather > Fabrizio from The Strokes

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:53 PM

LCD Soundsystem and the Strokes are my favorite bands! Its been a wild week!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:53 PM

Fabrizio and Julian
sounds like cheese merchants
or homosexual hair stylists
both of those choices are true in this case

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:53 PM

Why hasn't BV mentioned LCD Soundsystem being added to Coachella yet? What a joke

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:54 PM

I saw Julian in the pit at LCD last night, killing it! That bro is living the life!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:55 PM

I will now rank The Strokes albums:

Is This It - 10
Room On Fire - 8.2
Angles - 5.1
First Impressions of Earth - 3.8

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:55 PM

Julian hangs out with Pharell from N.E.R.D./ Neptunes all the time. pretty sure he is the special guest

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:57 PM

Some people think they're always right
Others are quiet and uptight
Others they seem so very nice, nice, nice, nice, nice, nice... oh-ho
Inside they might feel sad and wrong

Twenty-nine different attributes
Only seven that you like
Twenty ways to see the world
Twenty ways to start a fight

Oh don't, don't, don't get up
Sh-sh-sh-sh-I can't see the sunshine
I'll be waiting for you, baby
Cause I'm through
Sit me down
Shut me up
I'll calm down
And I'll get along with you

Oh, men don't notice what they got
Oh, women think of that a lot...
A thousand ways to please your man
Not even one requires a plan

And countless odd religions, too
It doesn't matter which you choose
One stubborn way to turn your back
This I've tried and now refuse

Oh don't, don't, don't get up
Sh-sh-sh-sh-I can't see the sunshine
Oh, I'll be waiting for you, baby
Cause I'm through
Sit me down
Shut me up
I'll calm down
And I'll get along with you
Alright

Shut me up
Shut me up
And I'll get along with you

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:57 PM

I saw Julian blowing Frohawk on 10th Ave. last night. Frohawk looked like he was thinking about which magazines to re-subscribe to. Julian can't even give a good blow job.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 5:58 PM

I work at MSG. the special gues is Aziz pretending to be R Kelly. Not really that big of a deal.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:00 PM

the special guest is 2001

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:01 PM

I'm stoked!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:01 PM

"Is this it" changed my life.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:04 PM

Most of you pussies bought skinnies and a beat up leather jacket because you saw The Strokes on tv and thought they looked cool.

5:08 PM

Thats for sure and the reason why the rest of the country laughs at NYC hipster rock via the brand Williamsburg. What the hell is that shirt hes wearing with all those neu metal bands on them.
So he listened to them or its ironic?

Theres plenty of tatted crap cookie cutter play by numbers metal bands you can check out there Julian at Union Pool.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:04 PM

OMG. I'm so excited.

Posted by Number 1 Strokes Fan | April 1, 2011 6:04 PM

weather you care to admit it or not, The Strokes put this city back on the map.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:05 PM

whats this got to do with the new Radiohead!?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:07 PM

I moved to New York because of JET.... then I realized they were from Australia

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:10 PM

Why won't you come over here? We've got a city to love!

Posted by Jules | April 1, 2011 6:11 PM

Oh great wise ones, tell us of the "pre Strokes" days when Williamsburg was so much better than it is now.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:12 PM

Strokes = hipster music

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:14 PM

I moved to New York because the hummus in Ohio was gross

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:15 PM

Strokes were the first modern hummus band

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:15 PM

The only thing you can accuse this band of doing is rock and roll.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:16 PM

I move to NY because of the great Hummus flood of 2010

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:16 PM

Before the Strokes, there were no places for vegans to eat in Williamsburg...no hummus, no nothing.

Also, if you had a fro. there was nowhere to get it "hawked".

Thank you Strokes!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:20 PM

JEFF photos please.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:37 PM

Lol at JET!

And 6:12 is right, before The Strokes, Williamsburg was a desolate wasteland of non-hummus foods and heebs.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:45 PM

6:05PM--- i'll have to double-check on this, but i'm pretty sure NYC was "on the map" already when The Strokes appeared....

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 6:45 PM

Before the Strokes, there was no such thing as a Bruize Cruize

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 7:06 PM

i just pulled GA pit for LCD tomorrow! yes!

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 7:08 PM

In the Pre-Strokes days, Park Slope was just a bunch of pregnant chicks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 7:09 PM

A medley of early 2k NYC buzzbands:

New York I love you
But your hummus is bringing me down

Yr citys a sucker
For chickpeas and pitas

Can't you see I'm trying?
I don't even like hummus I just lied to
Get to your apartment

We could go and get schwarma
fuck eatin that falafel
oh really your folks are away now?
alright let's go you convinced me

Before Fabrizio, all curly haired people were suplexed daily if they dared to step foot in Brooklyn.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 7:17 PM

@5:46(b) Careful, you are getting a little close to the hardcore scene dropping a social d reference. Next thing you know that guy who keeps attempting to hijack threads by rooting for SOIA, Agnostic Front, etc. will be here posting something. Oh wait, that's actually entertaining.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 7:22 PM

All these comments are between the same two or three people...and for a Friday "What's going on?" post no less.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 7:40 PM

What time do the strokes go on

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 7:44 PM

BrooklynVegan is life, the rest is just details.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 7:49 PM

weather you care to admit it or not, The Strokes put this city back on the map.

April 1, 2011 6:05 PM

Is that an April fools joke?? On the corporate hipster rock map?
Theres plenty of other bands who were around before them that are still playing.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 7:52 PM

What time does the Pussy Fight go on a Brooklyn Bowl?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 8:19 PM

7:52, still playing that made a dent as big as these boys?

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 8:26 PM

You mean recycled early 80's and late 70's pop rock sounding stuff like Blondie and art rock Television. But Strokes are meant for mass consumption

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 8:40 PM

laugh forever at the thought of a grown man listneing to the song 12:51 by the strokes. hahahahaahaahahahhahahaahhahahahhahahahaha. ahh

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 10:36 PM

If you just show up they'll be desperate to get rid of tickets by the time the show starts. Even if you miss a couple songs, they'd rather sell you the tickets for $20 than eat it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 1, 2011 10:48 PM

got a strokes ticket tonight for 25 from the first person i talked to

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:01 AM

I was in the same room with elvis costello tonight. This is why I moved to new york city.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:37 AM

If you missed the Strokes tonight- curl up in a ball and cry. They killed it tonight. Way better than what I expected. Surprisingly few songs off the new album, which was a good thing. Best part of the night- The Modern Age during the encore.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:47 AM

awesome show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:50 AM

"Is that an April fools joke?? On the corporate hipster rock map?

Name one NYC that had more of an impact on modern music than the Strokes. I'll eat my own kidney of you do. Sonic Youth, Ramones, and Velvet Underground don't count. We're talking about their contemporaries here.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:51 AM

Best part of the night- Julian in the pit for take it or leave it

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:52 AM

I thought New York city cops ruled.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:54 AM

I'm glad they only played a few songs off the new album. Great set list

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:11 AM

elvis costello opened for the strokes. crazy

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:15 AM

Wu Lyf...worth all the super hype? No...but a good, passionate young band. Much to soon to know where they're gonna end up. Best case scenario: Arcade Fire. Medium case scenario: Cold War Kids. Worst case scenario: Abe Vigoda.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:25 AM

I love New York City.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:27 AM

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:51 AM

Dont know what you consider "modern" music?
Is that radio friendly or CD's sold at Starbucks. The Strokes havent influenced anybody. Neither did the Yeah Yeah Yeahs that came from that scene and they were derivative of much past NYC music like Sonic Youth for one.

Well Swans have impacted a lot of bands as did Pere Ubu, Foetus, and maybe Talking Heads if your looking for "modern" radio friendly music.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:29 AM

Swans are technically an LA band

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:35 AM

Lol at all the retards who choose seeing Elvis Costello over the Strokes, You could have had it all

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:37 AM

The Strokes sounded good tonight... loud.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:44 AM

I cant believe how awesome that show was!

Not only did they influence tons of artists, but they also gave a big boost to the music scene of the early 2000s. There is a lot more to influence than just how the music sounds.

All those bands started in the early 80s. That does not count as modern music. Contemporaries means musicians who release albums simultaneously. There are some exceptions of course. Rolling Stones put out some albums the same time as Radiohead but they are not their contemporaries.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:55 AM

The Strokes influenced millions

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 2:56 AM

lol at grown men trying to justify their love for a teenage rock pop chuck taylors band by saying their incredibly derivative, slack, apathetic unoriginal rock revival sound somehow influenced a ton of NY bands even though their first bad record was released in 2001. also at me being in 4th grade when it came out and still being cooler than you guys.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:07 AM

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:16 AM

lol at you not knowing what the fuck your talking about. It feels good being 19 and being sure that everything you say makes sense.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:20 AM

We've got a city to love!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:21 AM

that Elvis show was really special. show to beat for the 2011 season (except for GYBE, which is like apples & oranges). Great energy, great setlist, great crowd -- 500 lucky people. Very special show.

Glad that you Strokes people got to see a couple numbers from Elvis as well.. That shows you what kind of performer, and guy, he is. A real mench. I'm sure that those 3 songs were fun, but believe me 2 hours was transcendent.

Really special.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:21 AM

The Strokes killed it tonight! Epic night!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:31 AM

Fabrizio Moretti rules.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:33 AM

^ Exactly. Not everyday does Elvis play a small show like that. Its definitely the best of 2011 so far. That's something to see, unlike the Strokes show at the biggest cavern in the city - besides Bloombergs head. Watch. Strokes will play like for nights at Terminal 5 in the summer.

Posted by Scratch That | April 2, 2011 3:33 AM

There's a passage I got memorized, seems appropriate for this situation: Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

Event of the week: Elvis Costello plays Gramercy Theater for 500 fans.

News of the week: LCD Soundsystem is announced as playing Coachella a day before their "Farewell" concert at MSG (how much did you pay for those tickets?)

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:41 AM

Julian was good tonight. raw and kick ass!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 3:56 AM

great set list tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 4:07 AM

great set list tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 4:07 AM

Again, 3:41, LCD isn't playing Coachella. Fucking idiots on this site...

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 4:13 AM

Good things from the strokes show...good things from his opening up at Irving, but his show at Gramercy was very good. This is a great city to be in and be around. Costello fucking took names and left people wanting more all around. Good job, old man.

Posted by BLG | April 2, 2011 4:46 AM

James is such s dick. Really, fatass? Now you're playing Coachella?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 5:48 AM

the strokes were influential the same way 80s hair metal influenced the 90s

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 8:11 AM

you are claiming that the strokes are influential on the scale of an entire genre of music? you want to stick with that? man, you're dumber than you even seemed.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:16 AM

Can't wait until Coachella. LCD is gonna kill, man!

Yes!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:22 AM

3:41 - "How does it feel to be an asshole, Neidermeyer?"

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:27 AM

how were the SUBHUMANS???????

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:28 AM

strokes were great but did not play long enough to justify the ticket price IMO

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:35 AM

Subhumans owe everything to The Strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:35 AM

1980s metal owes eveything to The Strokes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:37 AM

the strokes are an average pop band. like all pop bands, they are as much if not more a function of their marketing as their music. like a bag of jelly beans, they will leave a quick rush and then when they're gone they will be forgotten for solid food. Elvis Costello has been solid food for about 35 years, though multiple genres and in spite of multiple fads (like the strokes). to even mention the two in the same sentance is assinine.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:42 AM

@9:42 YES. Not even to mention a 500 seat venue versus the MSG echo box. Really no competition for Friday pick.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:46 AM

Uh, Friday is over guys. Shouldn't we start arguing over today?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 9:59 AM

That was the best Strokes show I ever saw!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:41 AM

Elvis ended his set at 1:00 AM. that is today, dicknose. and besides, all we're going to hear about in a Saturday thread is LCD LCD LCD LCD shitstorm. No thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:41 AM

I cant believe I got to see Elvis Costello play Madison Square Garden. I've seen him before, but not like that!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:44 AM

The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem are my favorite bands.

Posted by Hipster | April 2, 2011 10:47 AM

Elvis @ Gramercy >>> Elvis @ MSG

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:48 AM

Set times for LCD?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:48 AM

The Strokes were terrible last night. Total let down.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:50 AM

woooooow. the strokes rocked so hard last night.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:50 AM

My girlfriend asked me which one i like better
I hope the answer won't upset her
I was born with a bottle in my mouth
Now I got six so I'll never run out

I know it'll be OK
I get a six pack in me, alright!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:52 AM

AMAZING STROKES SHOW LAST NIGHT!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:53 AM

10:50 (a) = 10:50 (b)
Weak

And the strokes still suck ballz, yo

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:54 AM

The Strokes show last night was OK, not worth the ticket price or the hassle / sound of MSG. it was OK, just OK. Best part was Elvis. Wish I saw that Gramercy show last night. oh well.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:57 AM

I hope The Strokes break up again. I like Julians solo album more.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 10:58 AM

only fools devoid of experience, discernment, and common sense would believe such therediculous idea that the Strokes or their colliseum show are awesome. you kiddies really need to live a little more life and learn what awesome really means before you should be allowed to post such stupid shit again.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:01 AM

We've got a city to love!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:02 AM

Which show was Frohawk at last night?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:03 AM

This site needs more LCD Soundsystem coverage.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:04 AM

I like Alberts solo albums. cant wait for the Albert Hammond Jr band reunion!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:05 AM

Was that The Strokes reunion? Are they over now?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:08 AM

Julian does a great Elvis C impression.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:15 AM

i can't wait for the Albert Hammond Jr. Members Only jacket reuinion

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:16 AM

That Strokes concert was great kick off for the LCD show tonight! rockin a wild weeknd!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:20 AM

For an older guy, Elvis can still rock a packed madison square garden! I was amazed!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:24 AM

I always wanted to see Elvis Costello play Madison Square Garden. That was a dream come true.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:30 AM

Elvis opened for The Strokes. I missed it. Facepalm.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:34 AM

Last night was the best show I ever show. That still doesn't change the fact that Angles is a terrible record.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:39 AM

Elvis kicked ass on that new strokes song. killer night from beginning to end

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:44 AM

I didnt like Angles when I got it but the new strokes songs sound so much better live.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:48 AM

Looking at pictures I always thought that julian casablancas looked like a badass rock star, but at last night's show he talked, acted, and looked like a fat tool with pants that didn't fit him.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:51 AM

WHO SAW THE SUBHUMANS???

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:54 AM

Julian looked the same as he did when Is this it came out.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 11:56 AM

The Strokes were pretty badass with or without the old man.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:01 PM

you poor poor hipsters. so much life to live, so much to learn. it's really a shame that you settle for such mediocrity, not knowing any better. but that's OK, we've all had to date fat chicks, ride mopeds, and wear Members Only jackets. i can just hope that this phase passes quickly and that your ears are opened to what real music is. poor poor hipsters.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:07 PM

This is a drug for the world to give worms to ex girlfriends! You just dont get it here!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:10 PM

The Strokes, Elvis, LCD, this is a great time to be a hipster. yeah

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:11 PM

What a load of pretentious pricks. No one gives a shit if you don't like the band. The fact is the Strokes put on a great show and everyone there had a great time.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:24 PM

SHOW OF THE YEAR!!! ELVIS OPENED FOR THE STROKES!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:24 PM

@12:07 are you the queen of music snobs or something?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:28 PM

12:24(a) - sounds like a justification to me. either that or you feel the need to try to be everyone's dad? very presumptuous, very self righteous, very narcissistic -- that's one, Skippy.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:31 PM

what should we be listening to 12:07, Wild Nothing?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:32 PM

12:24 you do not speak the truth. i was there and the show was OK, not great. not even top 5 this year. you don't speak for us, so skip it, OK?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:33 PM

The Garden was packed! Everyone had a blast! Show of the year!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:35 PM

Elvis Costello is OK. He's not Sting. He's not Neil Young. I dont see what the big deal is. Elvis Costello plays little clubs all the time now.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:38 PM

12:07 is correct. By and large, this thread is filled with posters (or maybe just one, over and over again) claiming that The Strokes at MSG was the greatest show evar. Sorry, that's just crazy talk. I think that you all find it hard to take because it's a challenge to you (who take offense at it). take it as a challenge, not an insult. Keeps your ears open; there really is much better music than The Strokes and much better venues than MSG.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:39 PM

This wasnt a little club, it was Elvis rocking a sold out MSG! amazing!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:41 PM

12:38 i changed my mind - if you equate EC to Sting, you go on and love the Strokes. you are beyond help. You should be barred from posting, though, since you do have shit for brains and tin for ears.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:43 PM

always going to be 1 hater that didnt get into the show posting dumb shit. Haters gonna hate, lovers gonna live

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:43 PM

Haters ... hmmmm
"Elvis Costello = dad rock"

You should look in the mirror. You little child.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:45 PM

@12:39 you took a lot of time to write that comment huh?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:47 PM

I'm a Dad, and I love The Strokes and Elvis C.

Dad rock rules.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:48 PM

hey i lost my Members Only jacket at MSG last night. did anyone find one? it's black, shiny, and has that stretchy neck band.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:49 PM

How was devendra last night? did Fab's girlfriend Binky play in the Grogs?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:50 PM

The only dad rock show I've ever been to was Paul Weller last year. It was actually weird how many dad fights went on. Dad's were just getting drunk and fighting. It was pretty funny.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:53 PM

that Julians a charmer. charming show last night.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:53 PM

I'm a dad and I love the strokes. wheres all the dad hate coming from and why?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:55 PM

Devendra is so 2004
Strokes are so 2001
Elvis Costello is so 1981 Dad Rock

You people need to listen to better music

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:56 PM

You know why there are so many of these troll baiting "Strokes best show of the year, MSG rocked comments here. Because so many of you rocket scientists believe them and get so worked up about them.
Obviously The Strokes show was not a "show of the year" and anyone who seriously says "MSG rocked" is in need of psychiatric help immediately.
If you don't respond to the loser trolls they will go away.(At least you hope so)

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:59 PM

Nick Valensi is a remarkable guitarist. I thought Albert was the lead, but Nick stole the show. He was smokin!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:59 PM

What's with this dad rock? My dad doesn't rock at all. He listens to showtunes and forces me to lick peanut butter off of his shlong

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 12:59 PM

This is the same trolling as on the LCD thread. 1 pathetic hater cant allow the fans to discuss a great night, and the thread goes on forever. Try WINNING for a change, you'll feel better.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:02 PM

Dad Rock O)))

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:03 PM

You are the fucking troll you pathetic little weasel. Your attempt to turn it around is extremely lame.

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:14 PM

Anyone who likes Elvis Costello is a dad. Anyone who likes the Strokes moved to New York because of Is This It and needs to go back to the midwest. Anyone who likes LCD Soundsystem has a frohawk

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:16 PM

Ew, did 1:02 really just make the most stale Charlie Sheen reference ever?

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:19 PM

All of the pussy dads at the Elvis Costello show last night wouldn't last 2 minutes in a Sick of it All pit

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2011 1:21 PM

You haters keep hating. I'm gonna cruise over to the LCD concert with 2 smoookin hotties tonight.. see yall in the pit AGAIN!
