Davila 666 at Cake Shop (more by Chris La Putt)
Davila 666

The previously discussed 4 Knots Music Festival has announced its initial lineup. The Village Voice-produced free show at the South Street Seaport on July 16th, which is sadly REPLACING Coney Island's Siren Festival (RIP), will feature appearances from The Black Angels, Davila 666, Oberhofer, and more TBA.

The Black Angels will return from an Australian tour in time for that Seaport show, and have a few other upcoming shows scheduled in cities in the Southwest, and festivals like Primavera Sound in Barcelona, and Bonnaroo. All Black Angels dates are below.

Davila 666 played NYC three times in the past month, at Knitting Factory, Cake Shop and in a wrestling ring (no bullshit). The former show featured appearances from Hunx & His Punx and Shannon & The Clams. Download/stream entire sets by all three (from two separate dates) at The Empty Bottle in Chicago below, alongside all tour dates.

"id much rather be at the seaport than the hot as fuck tarmac of coney island..."

id rather be at both. I rarely make to Coney Island but Siren Fest always brought me there and i loved it for that. oh well.

"flop"

A free Black Angels show at South Street Seaport wouldn't be a flop on any day of the week. Stay home if you don't like it

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:37 PM

the only thing the Siren fest had going for it was Coney Island, now see shitty bands in a shitty South St Seaport setting.

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:38 PM

Who in the hell are these bands???

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:40 PM

There is no room for a decent show there. I don't expect any big names to be announced.

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:43 PM

I am not not not not going to this!

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:45 PM

I predict Ted Leo + The Pharmacists.

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:48 PM

WTF is this crap?

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:49 PM

well at least its a lot easier to get to than coney island

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:49 PM

shit will get draked!

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:51 PM

"Who in the hell are these bands???"

Your guess is as good as mine.

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 12:51 PM

like seeing bands at a shopping mall...

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 1:02 PM

not too shabby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 1:02 PM

I used to go to lots of free shows....now that I'm older I realize that my time is worth way more than standing around for hours, hoping it will get "good". Thanks, but n'thanks!

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 1:03 PM

AK is Alaska, not Arkansas

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 1:07 PM

ugh, i hope the lineup gets better than that.

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 1:08 PM

Are you really all so clueless and asking who the Black Angels are? The irony is that the same anonymous people admitting they don't know or care who a great band is on the Internet, are probably the same people pretending to know who the band is in conversations

"I used to go to lots of free shows....now that I'm older I realize that my time is worth way more than standing around for hours, hoping it will get "good". Thanks, but n'thanks!"

The moment I hear or see the words "free show", my immediate thought is "What's the catch?"

Oberhofer = the best thing out of Brooklyn since Totonno's pizza. A breath of fresh air unconcerned with crapping out inaccessible fuzzy "noise" to please the likes of Shitfork! Good on ya, Brad!

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 1:18 PM

BLOWS

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 1:22 PM

1:18 is so the frontman of Oberhofer

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 1:38 PM

the world will end on 5/21/11

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 2:12 PM

Does anyone know these bands?
No, TAINT say that I do.

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 2:27 PM

I hate fun.

Posted by Gerald | May 17, 2011 3:04 PM

212 who cares with such a shitty summer of live shows free/not free

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 3:05 PM

Knew that this wasn't going to be Siren-level line-up, but if this is the height of who's playing, still a disappointment.

Oberhofer are good but very local - they'd be the Brooklyn band who plays very early in the day at Siren, like DOM was last year. Davilla 666 are fine as an opener to a free show, but not second-billed on a festival. And The Black Angels are kind of love or hate, but certainly not big enough to headline any festival.

Right now, this is basically decent-to-good for a free South Street Seaport show like they have on Fridays, but nowhere near a replacement for Siren.

At least there's no threat of Drakening with this line-up (sorry for the ulta-overused reference...).

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 3:37 PM

seriously how do you not know who the black angels are? Guessing none of you are into a psych rock.

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 4:11 PM

the question is, why do they always have this event the same weekend as the Pitchfork Festival? It seems like all the bands that would be perfect for this are all in Chicago that day.

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 4:12 PM

NO the real question is: if you can't feed mogwai after midnight, then when can you feed mogwai?

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 4:38 PM

Me dig The Black Angels.

Posted by Anonymous | May 17, 2011 6:05 PM

337 nailed it. This is not at all a replacement for Siren. Moving a free summer show from the quirky Coney Island to the over commercialized South Street Seaport is a move perfect for the Bloomberg era.

bring yer own 32 oz. styro cup.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2011 2:48 PM

There will be only one stage and Black Angels ARE THE HEADLINERS!

In other words, there will be no bands as big/popular as the Black Angels.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2011 3:26 PM

BRING BACK SIREN

Posted by Anonymous | May 27, 2011 8:02 PM

4:38.... In the afternoon.

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2011 12:51 PM

First of all, LOVE the Black Angels. Secondly, if you haven't heard of the bands, why don't all of you nay-sayers check them out on Youtube or something before passing judgement. This festival doesn't sound like a "flop" at all; it sounds more like a kick-ass times!
