Why is everyone playing at the Afro-Punk fest black? Oh, wait...

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 10:53 AM

gnarly.

"This hater can't find a reason to hate!"

So true! The only issue, and it is a big one, is that it is free. It will be packed. They should do without Cee-Lo, because he is too big of a draw. But then again, I saw him open up for Prince, and his band is hot!

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 10:56 AM

whoa, sick fucking lineup

Posted by isfet | May 31, 2011 10:58 AM

Cee-Lo will show up really late and cause everyone to get upset, when really they shouldn't since it won't be like they paid to be there.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 11:10 AM

wow this is really awesome. and it will also be really crowded

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 11:17 AM

Other than Fishbone and Janelle, there isn't much that interests me here. Oh well.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 11:27 AM

where's the punk? Fishbone?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 11:28 AM

wowwowwow

Janelle Monae has AMAZING teeth!

And this lineup is awesome

Posted by Burg | May 31, 2011 11:32 AM

Hooray! A concert white people aren't afraid to make positive comments about!

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 11:42 AM

Fuck this show. Unless Prince is going to play with Jerry Garcia and Miles Davis, I can't find anything positive to say. It's gonna suck. Unless Cee-Lo has some bootleg episodes of The Voice. That would be tight.

Shame Dam-Funk isn't on this. Kind of a no brainer to anyone that's ever heard of seen "It's My Life"

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 12:13 PM

Frohawk, by default, will be at this event.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 12:28 PM

Posted by blah | May 31, 2011 1:00 PM

Black people are overrated.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:13 PM

I love the line up especially Cee Lo Green.

Posted by Matthias | May 31, 2011 1:33 PM

looks like fun!

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:27 PM

The word "overrated" is overrated (and overused).

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 4:33 PM

god I hope Dave Matthews shows up

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 4:52 PM

I hope Arlo Guthrie shows up.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 5:30 PM

Why isn't Raye 6 on the list? Isn't she from Brooklyn? She's a phenomenal performer! Dude we want that chic!

Posted by terrence taylor | May 31, 2011 10:03 PM

Why doesn't frohawk start a band and headline this?

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 6:08 AM

Good lineup, but shouldn't there be some "punk"? Fishbone are great, but what else?

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 9:34 AM

Sweet!!

Posted by Erica | June 24, 2011 4:00 PM

Do they all HAVE to be African Americans and do they have to be punk bands/artists? What about other underground music genres?

Posted by Leni | July 24, 2011 12:59 PM

All of the artists @AP aren't black. It's a multi-culti event (both artists and crowd) but yes, there is an emphasis on black alternative artists because unfortunately many of these artists aren't featured elsewhere on a regular basis. How many times have you been to a show where ALL of the bands were white? Do they all HAVE to be white? As to why there isn't more punk featured, I suggest you check out the AP website. It takes it's name from a documentary from a few years back about black kids in the punk scene. But the website and community itself has expanded to include a wide array of black alternative music/culture and the festival is reflective of that.
