Coachella

Coachella just announced....

We're excited to announce Coachella 2012 will be held over TWO WEEKENDS.

In an effort to try and accommodate everyone who wants to experience the festival, COACHELLA 2012 will be two separate events, held over two consecutive weekends. We will attempt to produce two identical festival weekends. That means same lineup, same art, same place, different people.

We know many of you were unable to attend this year's festival because passes sold out much sooner than anticipated. We were truly surprised by the overwhelming response and remain honored by your passion and enthusiasm. We also know some of you purchased through non legitimate sources and were inconvenienced, gouged or totally scammed. We hope that these changes will give everyone the opportunity to purchase directly from Coachella.com.

Passes go on sale beginning this Friday, June 3rd, 2011, at 10am PST until the following Friday June 10th, 2011, at 10pm PST. This advance sale will be the only opportunity to take advantage of the Coachella Payment Plan. Passes will be available through a payment plan of 10% down and 8 equal monthly payments OR by payment in full. The price of three-day passes remains at $269 plus fees for the sixth consecutive year.

Coachella Weekend 1 - April 13-15, 2012
Coachella Weekend 2 - April 20-22, 2012

Tickets go on sale Friday.

What band will want to hang during the 5 day week downtime! Weird!

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:26 PM

Anyone see any similarities between hair metal, grunge, nu-metal and this "indie" breakthrough of recent.

It all gets oversaturated and then mostly goes away. All these stupid festivals and most of these blogged about bands here have a shelf live of about 18 more months.

Don't you see, history repeats itself. Especially musical history.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:27 PM

This is possibly the worst idea EVER!

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:27 PM

This is stupid. I can't imagine the smaller bands being able to afford hanging out in CA for a week to play both festivals.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:30 PM

How will they recreate the same bands and set times over two weekends? That's asking much from smaller bands touring itineraries. A lot of bands who play in Coachella are on the east coast by the time the next weekend rolls around.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:31 PM

This. Is. Stupid.

Goldenvoice is just begging to lose their asses here.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:31 PM

Coachella Weekend 1 - April 13-15, 2012 = James Murphy and Frohawk do a special DJ set

Coachella Weekend 2 - April 20-22, 2012 = LCD Shitsystem reunion! Grab yer glowsticks, kiddies.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:32 PM

Also if you force bands to stick around in the area for a week, that probably means they'll be able to play LA venues in the meantime, which defeats the purpose of booking them altogether for their exclusivity.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:36 PM

Does this remind anyone of when Langerado tried to move to downtown Miami?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:37 PM

Did Jelly take over running Coachella?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:38 PM

As a retired tour manager I tell you all the above commenters, you have no clue on what you are talking about.

Posted by Me | May 31, 2011 1:39 PM

What's the point of going the second weekend when the first weekend pretty much spoils all of the surprises if you hear or read about them beforehand? A lot of cool moments from Coachella happen through the unexpectedness of one artist joining someone on stage during their set, or some unique stage set up. Now you're going to either be tipped off it happening, or worse yet, the special guest appearance might not happen at all and you'll feel duped.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:40 PM

^^ he did the exact same thing with Benny Goodman and it was BOFFO!

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:40 PM

Will the contracts stipulate bands must play identical sets on both weekends?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:41 PM

Everyone's freaking out over a 5 day break between the two fests??? Bands can easily do a west coast or southwest run within that time frame. Chill bros...

Posted by Durr | May 31, 2011 1:42 PM

@1:39pm

As someone who is still in the industry booking shows, I can tell you that this is a horrible idea that will not work as well as GV expects it to. They need two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LINE UPS for each weekend, or it's going to fail miserably.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:43 PM

"Will the contracts stipulate bands must play identical sets on both weekends?"

Ask a lawyer, oh wanter of totally useless information

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:50 PM

if one weekend sold out in 6 days, what happens when two weekends sells out by July?

Who do we think is going to have purchased all of those tickets? I can't imagine many concert fans are trying to plan their Spring in 2012 at this time.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:51 PM

this is a pretty terrible idea i must say. also... who is going to commit to buying a three day pass almost a year ahead of time when the headliner will most likely be Blink 182?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:52 PM

Coachella sucks open asshole. Same shitty bands on every festival circuit as the filler and then 3 or 4 different headliners each year. Gosh I wonder when Chromeo, Foster the People, Ghostland Observatory, MGMT, Fleet Foxes, and MSTRKRT will go on this year? Fuck all you stupid assholes who support this shit. Go see a few bands a night at a cool venue and then spend the rest of your night elsewhere not with a bunch of dickheads with headbands trying to spot an Olsen twin or Beyonce in the crowd. I hope your mothers gets cancer and your house burns down with a baby inside.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 1:59 PM

and apparently 1:59 is a bitter/failed promotor.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:02 PM

@1:59 - agreed. Coachellapalooza has been the same for the last 4 years.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:02 PM

@2:02 nope, I'm happily employed producing shows in NYC. Sorry someone left semen in your hummus faggot.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:05 PM

@2:02 did someone deposit semen in your hummus again you fag?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:07 PM

awesome...jokes on repeat...good one.

or two.

and yea...u seem like a real ray of sunshine and happiness - " I hope your mothers gets cancer and your house burns down with a baby inside."

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:22 PM

@2:05 is this Tyler, the Creator?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:24 PM

ja cuzzi boys and kick ball katy

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:28 PM

this year i hear we have soundgarden, pixies, red hot chili peppers, lady gaga, dinosaur jr, beastie boys

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:39 PM

this is a bad idea. they have become like bowery presents. just adding more shows.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:47 PM

Bands will not be playing both weekends. This will just waterdown the entire experience.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 2:55 PM

LCD Soundsystem will reunite for six nights only over the course of two weekends. Last chance guys!

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 3:05 PM

Looks like I'll have the chance to get my anus waxed after all, when all of you hipsters fly out to Indio for a couple weeks. Mr. Wong has a long wait list, thanks to all of you.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 3:07 PM

As a man who enjoys an occasional hummus dip, I am disturbed about the disturbing ideas that 2:05 and 2:07 have brought to the table. Please refrain from doing that... I was just about to dip a baby carrot in and now I have lost my appetite. Thanks a lot.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 3:13 PM

Isn't this what they do in England?? Is it reeds and leading or whatever?

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 3:30 PM

and having to stay around CA and them come back for a second weekend, maybe the bands will be sick of being there already.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 3:30 PM

@3:30 - The Leeds/Reading festivals are the same lineup BUT also the same weekend so the bands Leeds has Friday will be the Saturday lineup for Reading.

Posted by Anon | May 31, 2011 3:43 PM

My guess is that the "headliners" (2nd half of the day) would be the same, but not the bottom rung.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 4:04 PM

omgomgomgomgomgomg

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 4:19 PM

Daft Punk headlines all six nights and it sells out in about a day. Cunning GV, just cunning.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 4:20 PM

OG THE HATE THE USELESS ARBITRARY HATE!!! I love it. It gives me pleasure.

Especially the failing obnoxious "local producer."

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 4:24 PM

Seriously, does anyone read BV for info or just to throw around negative comments? I just want to see Nickleback.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 4:26 PM

Tool will be there for all you tools (nyuck nyuck nyuck). Releasing a new album in May.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 4:32 PM

LOL at some of these comments!

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 4:37 PM

Frohawk is headlining the first weekend. Kickball Katy is headlining the second. Both will suck miserably, though something tells me Frohawk's probably better at it.

When one door closes, another one opens. Today coachella announced this lame news but Hard announced a new event called Holy Ship! I'm so excited that I al,ost don't care about this epic coachella fail.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 6:37 PM

HOLY SHIP IS AN EPIC FAIL. More like douche cruise. Nice try 6:37.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2011 7:50 PM

its to funny that people keep making hummus jokes

Posted by instrumentals | May 31, 2011 9:51 PM

kickball katy has big tits. nice big tits.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 1:09 AM

Nobody here makes hummus "jokes" we are simply a conglomeration of individuals who both enjoy rockin music and rockin tan colored spreads who occasionally utilize the BV comment section to share recipes.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 1:20 AM

Mehchella

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 2:29 AM

6:37, Hard Shimehp! Is going to be the lamest music event of next year.

"A-Trak, Brodinski, Buraka Som Sistema, Contra, Destructo, Dillon Francis, Diplo, Doorly, Fatboy Slim, Gina Turner, HOLY SHIP!, Jason Bentley, Rusko, Skrillex, Steve Aoki, Tommy Lee"

Good god, the biggest douche bags ever will be present on that boat. I'd rather eat hummus out of frohawk's frohawk like a baboon taking care of his young babobon than be on a ship with rusko, shrillex, steve aoki, and Tommy Lee. Jesus, what kind of moron decided this is a good idea? If that ship disappears it will be mother-earth doing the world an extremely large favor.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 2:34 AM

Coachella USED TO BE a great fest, then it became the cool jock table at lunch. FUCK THAT scene for real. When people who dont know 95% of the bands are going to be "seen", seriously, FUCK THAT.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 10:47 AM

Wait...Tommy Lee is gonna be a on a boat, as part of an event called Hard Ship?

What were the odds?

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 11:25 AM

radiohead sucks donkey dick.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 11:36 AM

KID CUDI / ALOE BLACC / DJ IRIE / TAMARA SKY playing TERMINAL 5 on JUNE 13 - event includes OPEN BACARDI BAR. tickets guarantee admission

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 12:24 PM

if goldenvoice is smart, theyll book kicball katy and her big luscious pale redhead tits both weekends, and make her do a "solo show" each time.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2011 2:13 PM

Does ANYONE know if MGMT will be playing this year at Coachella fest 2012. I need to know so i can plan on going. email me if ya know!!!!
