Fountains fo Wayne

Fountains Of Wayne's new album, Sky Full Of Holes, will be released in the US on August 2 by Yep Roc Records, and by Warner Music in Japan (other international release dates coming soon).

Recorded in New York City, Sky Full Of Holes features 13 new songs written and produced by Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger. The album was mixed by John Holbrook, who also worked on Welcome Interstate Managers and Traffic And Weather.

Fountains of Wayne will celebrate the release of their 5th LP with five tri-state area shows surrounding the release date:
July 23 @ The Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ tickets)
July 24 @ Maxwell's, Hoboken, NJ (tickets)
July 25 @ Maxwell's, Hoboken, NJ (tickets)
Aug 3 @ Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY (tickets on sale Friday)
Aug 5 @ City Winery, New York, NY (tickets soon)
Those are also their only announced North American dates at the moment, but they "will tour extensively in support of the new album beginning this summer."

And speaking of the band named after a place in NJ who are playing NJ, download "Song Of The Passaic" above. The track off the new Fountains of Wayne album from a project they recorded for NPR last year is in fact a tribute New Jersey's Passaic River. Throw it on a mixtape with some Titus Andronicus, Yo La Tengo and the Wrens.

In the middle of those U.S. dates, Fountains of Wayne will also head to Fuji Rock. The 3-day festival takes place in Niigata, Japan at Naeba Ski Resort (nowhere close to Mt Fuji, its namesake). From July 29th to 31st the festival will host performances from Coldplay, Wilco, Faces (Wood, Jones, McLagan, Matlock, Hucknall- no Rod Stewart), Chemical Brothers, Beach House, Big Audio Dynamite, Best Coast, Wu Lyf, CSS, Four Tet, The Vaccines, Ra Ra Riot, The Kills, Buddy Guy, Cornershop, Atari Teenage Riot, British Sea Power, Battles, Mogwai, Fountains of Wayne and many more which have been announced in five separate groupings so far. The full list is at their site.

This band. What did they sing? Was it popular in the 90s?

Fountains of Wayne is a highly underrated band. Several great power pop albums, and fantastic songwriting.

Welcome Interstate Managers, while only known for Stacey's Mom, has a bunch of great songs. Hackensack is an amazing tune.

Also, Valley Winter Song was a great tune from Welcome Interstate Managers.

A genuine witty and fun band. Like a more real, better version of Ok Go

This feels like Weezer. I don't like Weezer.

The self titled record is one of my favorite all time albums - no filler and killer production to boot

Agree with above commenters. While I'm glad "Stacy's Mom" paid their bills, it got them an undeserved bad rap. Great power-pop, with several terrific albums.

Yeah, songwriting comes so easy to these guys it's a joke. It's pretty evident they're head and shoulders above most in the biz.

They have an incredible knack for a 'hook'

Most artists should be so lucky.

Some people have a problem with hooks, usually people who like Animal Collective or some other formless bullshit, devoid of catchy melodies.

I love their new song "Stacy's Dad...he's super duper rad!"

Animal Collective has a bunch of catcht melodies. Isn't that the point?
