Gang Gang Dance

Gang Gang Dance and New Moods shared a bill at Music Hall of Williamsburg last night (5/4). How was the show? If the picture above is to be believed, it was at least colorful. The video below kind of confirms the same.

If you missed it, or the opener, take note that New Moods are playing a FREE show at Knitting Factory on Monday, 5/9 with Sherlock's Daughter and Slowdance.

And the Gang Gang Dance party continues TONIGHT (5/5), as the band will DJ (not play) at clothing store Opening Ceremony's Cinco De Mayo Party at China Chalet in conjunction with a bigger partnership to promote all involved...

Gang Gang Dance and Opening Ceremony have paired up to promote the band's latest album, Eye Contact, which will be released by 4AD on May 10th.

It's a mind-warbling, multi-media collaboration spanning in-store displays, a band-curated mixtape, an exclusive 4AD Session and a Cinco Day Mayo record release party at Manhattan's China Chalet sponsored by a Swedish vodka company -- a multi-cultural celebration for the new album that only Gang Gang could conjure.

If you visit the Opening Ceremony stores in New York and Los Angeles throughout May, you will find eye catching window displays designed by multi-instrumentalist and reknowned artist in his own right, Brian DeGraw. Customers will also be able to take home their new clothes in a super limited-edition tote bag, also designed by DeGraw.

For online customers, you can visit Opening Ceremony's website (openingceremony.us) and listen to a Gang Gang Dance mixtape featuring Primal Scream, J Dilla and About Group to name a few. There are also exclusive band photos and, starting on May 9th, visitors can watch an exclusive preview of the band's 4AD session.

And to cap this all off, if you are in the New York area, you can hear members of the band DJ at Opening Ceremony's Cinco De Mayo Party on May 5th. It will run from 10 pm to 3 am at China Chalet, located at 47 Broadway. Other DJ guests include Spencer Sweeney and XXXchange. Admission is free and first-come first served. Again, Cinco De Mayo X Chinese bar X Swedish vodka...

i thought china chalet was an illegal club by night and restaurant by day? i'm surprised they are publicizing events there.

This is the perfect example of a band that, as it goes along, gets worse and worse and gains more and more fans.

This band has and will continue to suck. People just pretend to like it so they can feel creative and think to themselves and others that they 'get it'. Noone actually like this garbage.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 5:10 PM

4:57 is right guys; nothing they've done recently is anywhere as good as God's Money

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 5:11 PM

@5:10, you are thinking of joanna newsom and pre and post merriweather post pavillion animal collective.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 5:18 PM

@5:10 oh thats totally it! you nailed it! i just LIKE FEELING CREATIVE!

you people dont even read what yr posting.
this album is sooooo good.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 5:18 PM

yea 5:11 right. cause you have to make the same album again like god's money.

fuckin retard.

they're great at what they do cause they keep evolving their sound and moving in a different direction yet can still incorporate what they did with god's money.

go listen to fuckin fleet foxes and bon iver garbage.

ill take gang gang dance over any of those bands any day.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 5:29 PM

5:10 why are you even in ggd thread if you keep thinking they suck.

5:10 obviously you listened to probably 20 secs of their new material.

seriously fuck with these hipsters commenting on shit they don't know!

fuckin bands like wavves and best coast are ruining your brain.

go smoke a bowl and listen to their new album.

and better yet check out artists on animal collective atp uk. you might find some bands that you never heard of that will open up your goddamn mind.

God's Money is the last gasp of the band being decent...turned from a seriously heavy free improv crew into a bunch of hippy jammers...gross. Go listen to revival of the shittest. This is the original 4:57 BTW.

Great verbal sissy-boy slapfest everyone. Go talk like you do to perfect strangers in real life and see how long it takes before your asses are firmly kicked.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 5:49 PM

stoner rock just like grandpa used to listen to.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 6:23 PM

I hear interesting sounds & I'm sure they're interesting people but there's just not a lot here to sink your teeth in to. I feel like I'm looking at it instead of listening to it.

Posted by streetdude | May 5, 2011 7:48 PM

dope music. weak vocals.

Did you make any sense there?
Gang Gang dance is pseudo experimental for those that know nothing of real unconventional music.
GGD just looked at the back of a Wire magazine to see what they were going to copy from in a sloppy soup mix way.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 9:36 PM

setlist?

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 9:49 PM

@9:36 oh yeah thats totally what they did.
you guys spend more time think of fucking shit hypothetical criticisms than you do listening to/analyzing music.
this album is pretty fucking tight.
props to gang gang.
