Kylie Minogue

"New York City was feeling the love! We've earned it and have certainly much to celebrate - but no one could have expected the party that Kylie Minogue was preparing to unleash on the Big Apple when her Aphrodite Live Tour touched down on North America - the show officially arrived in Boston over the weekend, then DC, before 3 unprecedented nights at the Hammerstein Ballroom in the heart of Manhattan. The Goddess of Love radiates in a two-hour extravaganza unlike anything the pop icon has ever attempted before. Kylie Minogue has out-shined herself...if that's possible! This time the Impossible Princess comes close!

Minogue's shows have always been elaborate dance and fashion spectaculars but she has never attempted something having this dimension before. This show is bigger than her last visit to the States, a much tighter production with amazing aesthetic, and a non-stop dance escapade with death defying aerialists and a winged horse...and this is a scaled down version of the arena show the rest of the world gets to see! Celebrating the success of her latest album, last fall's Aphrodite, the stage venture takes its lead from the overall tone set by that release - co-produced by Stuart Price the album is a wildly futuristic foray into modern, electro rhythms & beats which Kylie has always mastered. Minogue has proven herself again and again a master minstrel of dance music.

Her song list on the tour features tracks from Aphrodite appropriately enough, and opens with the title track, since the mythological theme of the show situates Minogue as the embodiment of muses of myths and legends. Amidst the ruins of a Greek pantheon Kylie opens the show surrounded by her gorgeously assembled court singing "The One" before a rousing battle in the arena set to "Wow". Seamlessly transported by a powerful pegasus, the next act features "Illusion" and "I Believe In You." [edge]

That's one excited fan's take on last night's musical spectacular at Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC where Kylie does it again tonight (5/3) and tomorrow before moving on. More pictures (from the first part of the show) and the full setlist from last night (5/2), below...

She really has to start being more gay-friendly.

Is this Disney's stage adaptation of their 1997 animated classic Hercules?

"She really has to start being more gay-friendly."

She has more than just gay fans. She also caters to the "I like whatever the British like regardless if it is good or not" crowd.

Kylie is the QUEEN OF POP!!! If you not into her why click on this story?????? Her show blows any other pop show out of the water! She is the one and only QUEEN OF POP!!!!! :-)

Kylie is an incredible, under-appreciated performer, who wins over more and more skeptics as time goes on. As a popstar there's no one finer: better than Madonna/Britney/Katy Perry/Christina/Gaga combined. She's the real deal, Baby.

@ coltmodel

Couldn't have said it better myself! Why there gotta be so many haters here though?

Posted by kykyky | May 4, 2011 9:30 AM

saw the show.

over the top spectacle.
truly superb. kylie IS all that!

i felt bad though cuz the audience was very catatonic... lamest bunch of gays ever. ny crowds can be pretty a-pathetic but this by far took the cake.

gotta see her elsewhere for sure.

Was that kid the only female besides Kylie herself there?

Looks like the photographer had to shoot from the soundboard. Lame! I would have declined to shoot it due to such restraints.

I went to two of her London shows and she is just fabulous. I'm so glad you guys are all loving her over in America - our little adopted Londoner seems to be wowing crowds all over the world and the people who have been will agree with me when I say it really is a spectacular show. Even if you're an unsure Kylie fan, this show will convert you to a fanatic and that is a guarantee!!

There were plenty of costume changes... They just took place after every 3rd song or so

Kylie is the most amazing artist I've ever seen. I've been to her Aphrodite show in the Netherlands and she's just amazing! I respect this woman só much!

Posted by Margreet | May 6, 2011 6:47 AM

Kylie is all about fun! Her tongue sits firmly in her cheek- that's where her humour lies- a white swan to Madonna's black swan. She's an Ozzie lass and that means she doesn't think she's better than anyone else. Enjoy her America - you deserve her too x

If the "scaled down" show got great reviews, the full show would have blown you away! We saw it, two nights running, in London and it was two hours of pure brilliance.

We have seen Kylie countless times over the years. She would always turn up at the Pride March in London and she was never there to promote a new album or tour, she was there to say thank you to the gay community and we loved her for it. Somehow she manages to make us feel as if we actually know her as a friend.

Proof of her iconic status in the UK and other parts of the world is the fact that she is known as, "Kylie"....no need for a surname, like Elvis, Madonna, Cher. Not many celebrities achieve that level of recognition.

If you have nothing constructive to say about her or the tour, move along!

Kylie we are so pleased you have reached the "5-year-point" and we look forward to seeing what you achieve in the next five years.

I saw her grandfather, Richard Kiley, in
"Man of La Mancha" back in 1977. He was also a first rate performer.

Awwhh Houston Texas got the real scaled down show. No harp, oyster, background pillars or winged horse...still an awesome show! I'm straight and love the woman. Not a huge fan of hers to where I know all her music or follow her career obsessively, but there were alot of gay men there(a lil unexpected lol)...more gays at Kylie then it felt like what where at the Scissor Sisters show in Austin Texas. I was really disappointed in the crowd and thought they would really be into the music and dancing more...alot of people where like trees. Kinda shocked since gay guys like to dance, but great time reguardsless :) Dance mo'fos dance!!
