Billie god

"Charity rock....that's not quite right. Charitable rock? Hmmm...anyway, Bonny and Cairo and Ben and Pete and Rachel and Cassie and Peter and Billy and Mark are bringing the message to you with this one, talking about God on both sides. Then they're playing for you and you're giving back to them, and they're giving back to Save Our Gulf (a Waterkeeper Alliance campaign) and The Turtle Hospital. Help maintain the waterways! And they say there is no God...."
To quote Drag City, ""There Is No God" b/w "God Is Love" is the new single from Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and features the musical talents of Emmett Kelly, Ben Hall, Pete Cummings, Peter Townsend, Billy Contreras, Cassie Berman and Rachel Korine. The songs were recorded by Mark Nevers and mastered by Paul Oldham. Profits from the sale of these recordings will go to the Save Our Gulf and the Turtle Hospital to support efforts to clean up and maintain waterways and the lives dependent upon them."

Listen to/watch the video for "There Is No God", below.

That one's not out till June 21, 2011 via Drag City. Meanwhile pick up a limited copy of "The Mindeater", "a collaborative project birthed by ever-prolific Drag City recording artist Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Dominic Cipolla, multi-instrumentalist and main brain behind the elusive Phantom Family Halo." It's out now on "on vinyl from Sophomore Lounge. A corresponding CD/digital version will be available from our friends at Partisan Records in summer of 2011."

Bonnie plays Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago tonight (5/23), and then kicks off a free in-store tour of Florida on Wednesday. His other upcoming dates include ATP in NJ at the end of September. All dates are also below...

My head spins when I try to understand exactly what is the fascination with Bonnie Prince Billy, except that everyone born after 1975 has just had so much environmental poison passed on and is so bombarded with media from such a young age that you all really don't know what music is supposed to sound like. I really cannot begin to understand why you would want to listen to this crap. Cats having sex in the alley holds more interesting phrases than this. URGHGHGHGH! Wake Up, Sheeple!

tell me what really upsets you 12:28...

horrible music ... boring vanilla pablum, vocals without any real technique, songs not saying anything new, good to put the kids to sleep to but not much else. About as close to Muzac as we have nowadays.

very happy you know the word pablum, are an expert in vocal technique, value songs that say new things, have kids and are over 35 and bitter. where can we all find the awesome music that would meet your demanding standards, oh wise one, so that we may then worship at your feet for showing us the light? also, the word sheeple completely invalidates everything else you said and exposes you as a neanderthal troll. good day.

I could never really get into Bonnie 'Prince' Billy until I heard his cover of R. Kelly's Ignition. The humor, energy, just everything.. I started to understand his music differently. Still not the biggest fan, but he's a-okay in my book.

12:28 "what music is supposed to sound like."

What wise words! Can you please explain to us Sheeple what paintings are supposed to look like and what fiction is supposed to read like? How dare someone create something outside your personal taste!

1:45 = hipster asshole that brings nothing new or relevant to the conversation. Typical Liberal.

Posted by Anonymous | May 23, 2011 5:20 PM

haha. do you pride yourself then on newness and relevancy by invoking hipsterism and liberalism? we are asking for specific details of what music we should be listening to, since you know so much, having been born before 1975, and all you can do is change the subject and hurl what i guess are supposed to read as insults? typical troll. have you even heard bonnie prince billy?
