Summerscreen

Take the comforter off your bed and pack a picnic of Fritos and brie, SummerScreen presented by EPIX and The L Magazine is back for a sixth year. Every Wednesday for six weeks we're taking over the ballfields at McCarren Park to bring you a night of good music, great food and drink, and, when the sun goes down, we'll play one of the greatest movies ever made (that's not an opinion, these movies really are the greatest movies ever made). The best part? It's still completely FREE to attend. All you have to do is bring something to sit on.

We're proud to introduce this year's lineup:

July 6 - Friday
July 13 - Wayne's World
July 20 - Ghost World
July 27 - Ferris Bueller's Day Off
August 3 - Clueless
August 10 - Jurassic Park
August 17 - Rain Date
August 24 - Rain Date

So have you found something to sit on yet? You have less than two months, so make it a priority. Until then, cinephiles, we'll be stealing our Dads' Ferrari, searching for a cane with a mosquito fossilized in amber at the tip, and trying to get Marky Mark to plant a celebrity tree.
Brooklyn Bridge Park also hosts free outdoor movies this summer.

Sorry, but that's a generic and uninspired line-up.

OMG Rebecca Black's movie premiers in Brooklyn!

jurassic park? how mainstream

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:21 PM

how many more years until they show Over the Edge?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:24 PM

Gonna see Rain Date twice! Anyone else?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:29 PM

Why do I feel like this movie lineup was picked based on irony only?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:30 PM

I was hoping they would show this one documentary about chickpea farmers in Oaxaca, Mexico... Titled "the men behind the hummus"

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:32 PM

Ghost World. Nice.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:35 PM

I concur, 'Ghost World' is a great choice! However, big sigh for the rest of them. Really ... 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' and 'Wayne's World' have not yet reached the point of played-too-much-at-summer-movie-festivals?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:38 PM

have you watched jurassic park lately? aside from the cool special effects, it's the stupidest movie ever made!

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:39 PM

I wish they would play a Paris Hilton film.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:43 PM

Ghost World scares the bejesus outta me!

Posted by Richie Deschamps | May 16, 2011 12:44 PM

FYI- these dates are Monday nights, not Wednesday nights...

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:45 PM

why not Ichi the killer? It's family friendly and such.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:45 PM

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:53 PM

jurassic park is the best movie ever made!

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:53 PM

Are you people 12 years old?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:57 PM

Yeah, they should've played Schindler's list if they wanted to go the Spielberg route!

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 1:02 PM

^ Yes. And, I just picked up 'Gobblin', and I love it!

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 1:03 PM

Shitty lineup. They should have gotten Arcade Fire. These bands suck. Hummus. Meh. LCD Soundsystem. I hate you faggots.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 1:04 PM

Ernest Goes To Camp is the greatest movie ever made.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 1:07 PM

Im gonna piss off the Hotel Williamsburg onto this L Magazine bullshit. Get a fucking clue.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 1:11 PM

typical that hipsters love Ghost World since it plays like a documentary about their lives and they hate everything else

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 1:28 PM

if benjamin were an ice cream flavor, he'd be pralines and dick.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 1:43 PM

What time does James Murphy start handing out hummus and pita chips? I heard as a special performance they are going to be showing the behind the scenes of Frohawk.

BO eh NER

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 2:08 PM

no difference between the crowd for this and the characters in clueless

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 2:08 PM

Haha, 1:28!

Also, trendy movie types like the pretentious Wes Anderson nonsense that you trendies dig so much. All those jaded, stoic, sardonic reactions and the classic/punk rock (good stuff too!) used in ceratin motion scenes does a better job of making me vomit than too many shots of tequila.

"It sucks, and, it cuts."
"Well, it certainly does SUCK!"

Does anyone else share my sentiment when I say that "Glitter" was possibly the finest movie of the new milenium?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 4:43 PM

Missed out on these the past few summers. How easy would it be to sneak in a 40oz and some chronic for the Friday showing?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 4:49 PM

Clueless is awesome. RIP Brittany Murphy

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 9:23 PM

who the fuck picked these films to watch?

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:07 PM

It's like they're not even trying! C'mon how hard can it be to pick films for Williamsburg?

August 3 - The Darjeeling Limited
