Thurston

The above picture is an actual photo of Thurston Moore's new record 'demolished thoughts' on blue vinyl in front of one of the pressing machines. You can look for that in a store on Tuesday (May 24th) or pre-order directly from Matador. You can also download two of the album's nine tracks for free above.

Today is Friday, May 20th, which means that TONIGHT is Thurston's big record release show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. As mentioned before, poet Eileen Myles and I Feel Tractor are opening the show. As maybe not mentioned, Thurston will be playing "with the full band (including Samara and Mary, and adding Keith Woods on guitar, Matt Heyner on bass and John Maloney on drums)." Tickets are still available, AND we have THREE PAIRS YOU CAN WIN. To sweeten the deal, each pair of tickets comes with a signed copy of the new album. Details on how to enter the contest are below.

As mentioned before, Thurston also has a free show coming up Monday inside the Other Music record store. As maybe not mentioned, that show will also be "plugged in and full band." After that, Thurston doesn't have any other dates scheduled until June and July. They are all listed below.

Most of Thurston's July dates are with Kurt Vile, who as mentioned before, is also opening for Wild Flag and Sonic Youth at Willimasburg Waterfront on August 12th. Tickets are still on sale for that show, tickets go on sale today at noon for the DFA1979 & TVOTR/BSS shows happening at the same venue this summer.

A flyer for tonight's MHOW show, the contest details and all Thurston dates, below...

Is anyone else kinda surprised that tonight's show isn't sold out?

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 10:03 AM

no, this dude makes himself a little too available.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 10:08 AM

i'm surprised considering I heard Beck is showing up tonight

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 10:14 AM

"no, this dude makes himself a little too available."

I kinda see that now and with Sonic Youth also (but SY almost always sells out NY).

Funny, when I was younger and first heard of Sonic Youth, I always thought they seemed to-cool-for-school and had that dismissive jaded personalities. But it seems it's quite the opposite. Now they're open, available and friendly (which I actually kinda like).

"i'm surprised considering I heard Beck is showing up tonight"

Yeah, that too. I wa wondering about that.

"i'm surprised considering I heard Beck is showing up tonight"

where did you hear this?

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 10:34 AM

>>where did you hear this?

From the guy at Bowery trying to spur ticket sales.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 10:38 AM

kurt cobain is going to be there too.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 11:08 AM

by what time are you going to announce ticket winners?

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 11:10 AM

judgement day is saturday 6pm

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 11:12 AM

THE RAPTURE IS COMING!

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 11:22 AM

Judgement Night....am.i.rite???

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 11:34 AM

i personally can't wait for tomorrow night, either the world ends (which will be kinda cool to witness) or absolutely nothing happens and a bunch of crazy people get laughed at. it's a win-win

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 11:34 AM

Why are you people even acknowledging this nonsense about tomorrow? That's just what these people who made this shit up want. Attention.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 11:38 AM

Wouldn't surprise me if Beck shows, hope he does. I'll be there regardless, digging the demolished thoughts.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 11:38 AM

i'm only going if someone can confirm the beck rumor

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 11:49 AM

If you only want to go to this because someone on the internet said Beck might show up, you should just stay home. It's a Thurston Moore show not a Beck show.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 12:02 PM

beck, thurston moore, same thing

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 12:10 PM

If beck showed up it might be worth going to...I feel like I've seen Thurston SO MANY times both in SY and his own stuff. Love the guy but don't feel liek paying the money.

Posted by The Real Real Yup. PERIOD | May 20, 2011 12:21 PM

I can't confirm the beck rumor. But I do know for a fact that Thurston and Beck aren't the same thing. They're actually two different people. Thurston is much taller.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 12:26 PM

I heard they're both going to be there, but Thurston will have Beck's face and Beck will have Thurston's face and it will be directed by John Woo.

During the encore a lot of white doves will also fly everywhere.

Totally don't care about this end of the world crap. Me and the bros are renting an RV and taking a short cut through the "'hood" to a professional sporting event. Should be fun.

Posted by Emilio Sheen | May 20, 2011 1:14 PM

if $24 is expensive, then you shouldn't live in NYC.

this dude/dudette is selling a ticket for tonight's show for $15:

"i personally can't wait for tomorrow night, either the world ends (which will be kinda cool to witness) or absolutely nothing happens and a bunch of crazy people get laughed at. it's a win-win"

I'm more excited about the rumors that a midget Scientologist may play with Thurston Moore tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 2:06 PM

I heard the chef at mamouns is also gonna be there.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 2:35 PM

all of the above needs mega graphic design help...except the blue vinyl - thats hot.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 2:45 PM

DEERVANA never forget

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2011 3:05 PM

got duped by the mhow twitter saying it was just about sold out and picked up two with the outrageous fees. i'm sure they'll have 400 tickets at the door, like they always do.
