Sonic Youth at Prospect Park (more by Lori Baily)
Sonic Youth

We are truly thrilled to announce that Other Music will be hosting a record release party for Thurston Moore's fantastic new solo joint, Demolished Thoughts, produced by Beck Hansen for Matador Records. Thurston and his band will be performing at the shop at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 23, and signing records after. Please join us -- and, need we say, get here early! - Other Music
The Other Music appearance goes down three days before Thurston Moore is scheduled to headline Music Hall of Williamsburg (on 5/20) with support from poet Eileen Myles and I Feel Tractor. Tickets are still available.

Tickets are also still available for the previously discussed Sonic Youth show on August 12 at Williamsburg Waterfront that now also includes Kurt Vile on the bill, in addition to Wild Flag.

Kurt Vile & The Violators will play a sold out Bowery Ballroom on June 11th with Purling Hiss & Meg Baird, but NOT with Pissed Jeans who had to drop off the bill less than a day after it was announced.

All Kurt & Thurston dates, and the new video for Thurston Moore's "Benediction" from Demolished Thoughts, below...

> other music fits... what, 30 people?

Not true. They pack in closer to 100 depending on who is performing and how much equipment is needed. And while it might be a tight squeeze, it's an unbelievably fantastic way in which to experience someone perform. I've seen St. Vincent, Bill Callahan and Dirty Projectors, and all were initimate and unreal. I have no dout Mr. Moore will bring the fuckin' noise and rock the joint.

Someone gave me a burn of his new album, and it's definitely way worth buying. Ordered up the vinyl, gonna go to the MHOM show.

do they rearrange the store for performances in there? i don't see how they could fit a band and people in that tiny cramped space

"I have no dout Mr. Moore will bring the fuckin' noise and rock the joint."

Have you heard Demolished Thoughts? This is not likely.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 10:26 AM

$40 for Sonic Youth at the Waterfront is just way too much.

>do they rearrange the store for performances in there? i don't see how they could fit a band and people in that tiny cramped space

YES. the shelves are all on castors and they move them to the sides and back and it opens up the whole area.

>"I have no dout Mr. Moore will bring the fuckin' noise and rock the joint."
Have you heard Demolished Thoughts? This is not likely.

It's a figure of speech. Ass Munch.

Hey BV, the date description above is a bit off - the 5/23 date at OM is three days *after* the 5/20 show at MHOW.

Sincerely,
Helpful Guy

Only on BV would people bitch about a Thurston Moore show.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 11:05 AM

i don't see any instance of someone bitching about thurston moore. only the $40 sonic youth ticket. which in my opinion i don't find all the unreasonable considering the lineup

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 11:08 AM

^^ hey, dude/dudette. you do realize it's not just sonic youth on the bill, right? it's also kurt vile & the violators and wild flag. so let's see here ... three top-tier bands on a beautiful august night next to the water with the city of nyc as the backdrop. and you're complaining about a $40 ticket? you live in nyc, right? do you get out? ever? you really should choose a different city to call home my firend.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 11:14 AM

huh? i said i don't find unreasonable.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 11:17 AM

furthermore, unlike most people who comment here, i've lived in NYC my entire life so i call it my home with great pride.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 11:18 AM

oh yeah, i forgot to call you a douche.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 11:19 AM

$40 is a lot but i saw Sonic Youth for free last year at celebrate brooklyn and several years back at summerstage so i feel like it's time i coughed up some dough. psyched to see kurt and wild flag

I love the people who try to call someone out after misreading something and then refuse to comment back. I know it's hard to type when you're crying underneath your desk, but show some dignity

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 12:04 PM

I love the people that come to my dinner parties with extra pita triangles.

^??????

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 2:03 PM

people still buy music?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2011 3:50 PM

You would at least pay $20 to see each of those artists/bands by themselves. I think it's a deal. And it's only $33.50 for one ticket if you buy it at the Best Buy theater box office. That's what I did.
I just don't like how they put you in a far off, to the side area if you choose to drink beer at a show at the Waterfront. Other then that it will be fun.
