Cults

Cults will play a free in-store at Other Music on June 6 at 8pm, the day before their self titled debut drops. They kick off a tour with Guards and Writer one day later in Philly, and then return to NYC the day after that to play The Box on June 8 (though no details were ever announced about this show and it was removed from their public tour dates. It's probably private?) and then the sold out Music Hall of Williamsburg on June 9. All dates are listed below.

The album is currently streaming on NPR, and will be streaming in the little MySpace player embedded below as of midnight PST tonight (6/3). Amazon is giving away the song "Go Outside" for free at their site.

Cults also play a free Summerstage show on August 7 with Friendly Fires and The Naked and the Famous. Friendly Fires return to NYC in October to play Terminal 5. Tickets went on sale today.

Updated Cults tour dates and the stream widget below...

So, can we take bets if anyone will care about this band next June? I've got $400 on no.

Woah! Ian Astbury is wearing hot pants these days? W-O-W! Things really have changed since "Love Removal Machine". But hey, a guy's gotta pay bills and get popular with the Billyburger culture. It's not Robyn, but I'm still excited.

Man, Ian Astburys jams with Boris are pretty cool.

Nice way to fucking steal Robert Longo's style for your album art, assholes. For those of you who don't know him, go look. His work is the cover of Glenn Branca's "Ascensions" album. Hopefully these little bitches get busted for this.

the only thing those two album covers have in common is that they are both in black and white

^ get some glasses.

I think it's a corny design. Tired of pretend performance in general.

As far as Cults, don't know how or why they keep getting shoved down our throats. Saw them at CMJ and the crowd was practically silent. But I guess the "cute" means there's always some cash for Columbia or whatever to spend.

KID CUDI / ALOE BLACC / DJ IRIE / TAMARA SKY playing TERMINAL 5 on JUNE 13 - event includes OPEN BACARDI BAR. tickets guarantee admission

Nice way to fucking steal Metallica's style for your album art, assholes. For those of you who don't them, go look. Their work includes the video for "One" off of the "...And Justice for All" album. Hopefully these little bitches get busted for this.

Nice way to fucking steal The Grudge's style for your album art, assholes. For those of you who don't them, go look. Their work includes the movie "The Grudge" off of the Sony Pictures company. Hopefully these little bitches get busted for this.

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2011 2:13 AM

dialogue for when they discussed the cover art:

"what about the adams family?"

"what do you mean?"

"well, what about cousin it?"

"i like it! but it's not avant garde enough."

"okay, what about cousin it performing dance moves like it's straining to go to the bathroom? and what about making cousin it a WOMAN?"

"I LOVE IT!"

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2011 12:23 PM

it should be generally acknowledged that this bad is HORRIBLE

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2011 1:59 PM

before cults, there was pascalle. look closey and u will see a young ryan mattos, or as he calls himself brian oblivion. p.s. they never attended film school, and they tried really hard to be famous: http://www.ecarecords.com/artists/pascalle/index.php

Posted by god of the PR gold diggers | June 4, 2011 9:57 PM

Yes, their art is influenced by Robert Longo and their early covers were Longo photos. I don't see why that's some awful crime? Do you also hate the album covers to Exile on Main Street and Daydream Nation?

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 10:33 AM

why isn't anyone talking about the record? never heal myself makes the whole record worthwhile in my book. that song kills.
they may suck live, but this album is the shit.

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2011 9:16 AM

^^
I think people are getting tired of fake indie

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2011 9:59 AM

"why isn't anyone talking about the record?"

Because they thought it was about The Cult at first...

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2011 10:17 AM

'Fake Indie'? The hell is that? These are some catchy tunes! That's all I care about. Frankly, I'm surprised there isn't more love for this band.
