Bug

Press release reads:

Indie godfathers Dinosaur Jr. have announced the reissue of their classic 1988 album Bug on cassette via Joyful Noise Recordings. Slated for release on June 21, the cassette reissue coincides with the band's 15-date US/European tour in which Bug will be performed live in its entirety.

Originally released on cassette in 1988 via the legendary SST label, this is the first ever reissue of a Dinosaur Jr. album on its original cassette format. Hell - as far as we can tell, this is the first ever cassette reissue of any album originally released on the format...

Dinosaur Jr. start playing "Bug" in its entirety on tour on June 21st, the June 23rd NYC show at Terminal 5 with Fucked Up included. An updated set of dates is below.

Fucked Up

Fucked Up meanwhile are releasing David Comes to Live on Tuesday (June 7th), aka at midnight tonight, and they have a gimmick of their own too...

"To celebrate the release of Fucked Up's David Comes To Life, the album will be on sale for $3.99 (in MP3) as "MIDNIGHT MADNESS" takes over MatadorRecords.com starting at 12am EST tonight.

The catch is, the album will only be $3.99 for about 2 minutes. That's right. From midnight until noon tomorrow, the price of the MP3 album will be steadily going up until it hits full price once again.

And that's not all.... while we can't compete with Fucked Up's physical world antics in Toronto, our version of "MIDNIGHT MADNESS" will also include a virtual pop-up store with a screening room, characters from the "story", a live webcam from Toronto "MIDNIGHT MADNESS" and a preview of our just about ready to launch "MataCloudTM."

Act quick if you don't want to pay $4.01 or more! All tour dates below...

Yes, Dino Jr is great

Your other info is a waste of our time and $10. Please go away.

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 3:53 PM

actually, speaking of someone ... someone should kick that motherfucker's ass who keeps spamming shows on this site.

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 3:55 PM

i think they should reissue ghostbusters on betamax

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 3:56 PM

This nostalgia for cassette tapes is pretty stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 3:58 PM

they're only doing 250 copies... safe to say it's being done just to say it's been done

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 4:00 PM

Yeah, seriously. What's the friggin' point?

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 4:03 PM

"the hell you doin'?"

-cleaning lady from Ghostbusters on betamax

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 4:09 PM

The cassette tape nostalgia doesn't make much sense. No one has a walkman anymore, no one has a tape player in their car anymore. Maybe a few people have an old boombox.

In 15 years will there be compact disc nostalgia?

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 4:32 PM

I'm going to start calling people from landlines.

Posted by The Real Real Yup. PERIOD | June 6, 2011 4:35 PM

compact discs are SHIT, worst format next to the cassette.

if you're smart you know that vinyl is the only way to go.

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 4:55 PM

is it a maxell XLII high bias?

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 5:02 PM

4:45, personally I dislike ALL forms of recorded media. None of them capture the true essence and timbre of the instruments. Most of the time when I want to listen to music I commission a quartet to arrive at my penthouse and play for me personally. The only way to fly...

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 5:11 PM

@4:55 - worse than mp3? Everyone is all into vinyl now, but for the last 20 years most people couldn't have cared less about it.

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 5:16 PM

"no one has a tape player in their car anymore."

I do.

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 5:38 PM

@5.38 - probably why your reading BV...

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 8:47 PM

not to spam for a show or anything, but apparently fucked up is playing on the 11th, at "wunderbar". a german bar in lic. Does anyone know anything about this, and if it will be all ages?

Posted by Anonymous | June 6, 2011 9:14 PM

i saw dino jr in 1987. now i live in my parents basement.

Weiner Walter is playing CoCo 66 and giving out free cassettes of his new project this week?
Great!

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 1:57 AM

Cassettes aren't all bad... I still got some old rave dj mix tapes kicking about in a shoebox somewhere. I'd play them, but I fear it would bring back some serious acid flashbacks and I'd be doing liquid dancemoves all around my apartment.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 2:18 AM

Too bad they couldnt do a run of more cassettes so yes then it makes it sort of kitchy. I have the original SST Bug on cassette somewhere with old SST Sonic youth tapes also and T.G.'s Third and final report.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 3:08 AM

I'm going to start drinking water from faucets.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 7:12 AM

5:16 yes "everyone" is all into vinyl now, and by "everyone" you mean 1.4% of people who buy music. yes, it's a huge increase from even two years ago, but to get all huffy insinuating that vinyl is somehow overrated because "everyone" is buying it now is utterly ridiculous.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 8:51 AM

4:00 if Dino Jr is making only 250 Copies Cassettes just for the nostalgia "era"
i believe that if Justin Beiber do the same he will sell 250 000 copies of cassettes in the first day of release

Sad But True

Posted by Kazukovox | June 7, 2011 8:54 AM

I bought the cassette. Cost nearly $15 with shipping, but I still have a stereo that plays them and it's in good condition. I know cassettes are a novelty, but it's nice to pop in that piece of plastic everyone once in awhile.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 10:15 AM

I think you would be pretty hard pressed to find a Justin Beiber fan with a tape deck.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 10:16 AM

Beer.
