Ghost @ The Studio
Ghost
Ghost

After a strong reception at the close of Maryland Deathfest 2011, Sweden's Ghost headed to NYC to play the Studio at Webster Hall on June 1st with a stellar supporting cast of Sabbath Assembly and Natur. Ghost closed their NY set with their creepy cover of The Beatles "Here Comes The Sun" which appears as a bonus track on the Japanese version of their new album Opus Eponymous. Another highlight of the show, captured in the pictures above and below, was the unholy communion, wine and wafers included, delivered by the deathly priest frontman as the band played album cut "Ritual". More pictures from the show are below.

And it was just announced that Ghost wil hit the road to support Enslaved with Alcest as part of a US tour this fall. NYC gets a date of its own, Gramercy Theater on September 25th. Tickets go on sale at noon on Friday (6/10). Full tour schedule is below.

Enslaved recently released a new EP, The Sleeping Gods, via Scion that is available for free download. Stream it in full, with the dates and pictures, below....

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 4:40 PM

Okay, so when's the superior Ghost coming back to New York?

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 4:44 PM

yeah death to the false Ghost. It's not like the good Ghost hasn't been for around for 25+ years.

This Ghost is a bunch of clowns. BV has some questionable taste.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 4:50 PM

Worse than Hitler!

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 4:54 PM

Wouldn't it be awesome if instead of metal guys wearing cRaAzZy black & white t-shirts and had long beards and stuff, they wore hawaiian shirts and neon sunglasses?

Sliders should've done an episode like that

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 4:55 PM

BV: Boooooo! No more tattooed white sausage lame cartoon metal please. You have provided more than enough lately....

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 4:56 PM

"Okay, so when's the superior Ghost coming back to New York?"

Yeah, seriously. If it was Enslaved, Alcest, and the Japanese band Ghost, that would rule.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 5:09 PM

"Worse than Hitler!"

Hahaha! I never tire of this one!

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 5:13 PM

Yes there is another Ghost from Japan so the name choice is not unique. In fact, if you did some research you'd find there are dozens of bands named Ghost. However, everyone else's hating comments sound like similar objections heard when punk/hc was exploding. Maybe you're missing the rebirth of metal in exciting new forms that BV is acutely aware of. Besides, if you don't like it don't read about it. Just go back to reading all the flaccid, stale indie rock shit. @4:54- Surely you're overexaggerating.

Ghost have really changed.....

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 5:20 PM

Who wore it better?

Here Comes the Sun covered by Ghost at Webster Hall or covered by Paul Simon at Webster Hall?

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 5:24 PM

No joke, I see the lead singer of Natur on the train all the time and have always had such a crush on him. I had no idea he played in this band. <3

Posted by The Real Real Yup. PERIOD | June 7, 2011 5:27 PM

Damn. It looks pretty packed in there.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 6:23 PM

Chris from Total Social Suicide wears hawaiian shirts and neon sunglasses, DUH! I've see him on the train all the time and I definitely have a crush on him.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 6:35 PM

alcest are awesome.. I love metal, but Ghost is clearly ICP.

These guys read too many comic books growing up.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 7:04 PM

Wait a second, isn't there a well established band on Drag City called Ghost? How the hell did this shit get through the cracks?

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 7:23 PM

Will you trolls shut the fuck up?..if you don't like the band..don't read the post..I don't open posts about Clap Your hands and say Yeah..because I don't like them.
BV is doing a great job in covering tons of different music..

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 7:38 PM

That Ric bass doesn't really match.

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 7:43 PM

Bring back Portal PLEEEEEZ

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 8:00 PM

You never saw a Mexican with a Rickenbacker before?

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2011 8:56 PM

What is a clap your hands and say yeah??

BV is doing a great job in covering tons of different music..7:38 PM

Yes true but then again maybe its .. no really its a lot of mediocre metal that sounds the same which is not the purpose of having this many heavy bands for lack of a better term. You figure metal would try to be innovative now or cover new ground somehow? Nevertheless theres so many that just are damn typical of each other.

Ludicra is worth listening too, KTL, or maybe some old Budgie. Theres more examples, although there is unfortunately hundreds of unoriginal metal bands now that the trend has emerged so much indie or otherwise.

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2011 3:14 AM

@7:38- Thank you! @8:00- Yes, ASAP!!! @3:14- Learn to write a proper sentence. @5:27- To fuel your "fire"- he's a really nice dude. haha.

Natur was hilarious. They had all their buddies up front yelling, clapping, and moshing. They had at least two friends on stage taking photos (probably for their press kit, which will brag that they've "shared the stage" with Ghost). And they even had a fog machine. Some of the lamest "local band" antics I've seen in some time. Music was decent though, if you like Warbringer and the like.

Sabbath Assembly stole the show.

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2011 8:27 AM

Ghost is from Japan, correct, or is this another Ghost?

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2011 10:08 AM

@7:04
what's wrong with reading too many comic books?

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2011 10:47 AM

10:08: This is another band named Ghost. They are from Sweden and are relatively new (especially when compared to the Japan one!).

Funny how the past month or so, I've been hearing a lot on this band. I keep thinking it's the Japanese one, only to find out that I'm mistaken every time. Haha, oh well.

Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2011 10:54 AM

Posted by brooklyn vegan | June 8, 2011 6:16 PM

it's just one IP address trolling these metal threads. just ignore him and he'll stick to one annoying comment instead of 7.

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2011 10:39 AM

@6:16
by saying great do you actually mean "shite"? fuck liturgy and whatever trust fund they crawled out of...

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2011 11:41 AM
