Matt & Kim @ ACL 2010 (more by Tim Griffin)
Matt and Kim

Who would have thought back in 2006 when Matt & Kim were rising through the ranks of the Todd P Brooklyn DIY scene that one day they'd be third on a three-band tour with Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance?

As you may have heard in a commercial playing in the backseat of a cab or elsewhere, Blink 182 are going on the "Honda Civic Tour" with My Chemical Romance. Openers for that tour, which vary by date, include Manchester Orchestra, Rancid, and.... Matt & Kim. Manchester is supporting the first leg of the tour which hits NJ's PNC Bank Arts Center on August 5 and Long Island's Nikon at Jones Beach Theater on August 6 and 7, though Manchester won't open the August 7 show, as they will be at Lollapalooza. A different opener is to be announced. Pre-sale tickets are on sale now, with a general sale starting Saturday (6/11) at 10 AM. Matt & Kim open most of the dates in September and October, as you can see below.

Maybe Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino, who covered "Dammit" (video below), will come out to one of the shows (thinking from her seat during the Brooklyn duo's opening set, "that should be me!"). Mark Hoppus loves Best Coast and also interviewed her boyfriend Wavves.

For now Bethany will have to be satisfied with her contributions to pop punk band New Found Glory. According to the band's website, "Today our friend Bethany from the band Best Coast came into the studio and sang vocals on one of our new songs! We are totally pumped to have her guest on our record."

Best Coast play a Planned Parenthood Benefit w/ Those Darlins at Le Poisson Rouge on June 16, two days after opening the sold out Decemberists show at Prospect Park (6/14). Tickets for the LPR show are still on sale.

Wavves open for Guided by Voices in McCarren Park on June 18th and has other dates scheduled too.

Meanwhile, Matt & Kim are on tour with The Thermals (Who ever thought the Thermals would go on tour with a band that would go on tour with Blink 182?) (though it is consistent with The Thermals' thing about always touring with bands that include at least one female member). Their Terminal 5 show together is sold out, but tickets are still on sale for the show The Thermals are headlining (without Matt & Kim) at The Bell House on July 1 with Big Troubles and (the female-fronted) EULA.

"(though it is consistent with The Thermals' thing about always touring with bands that include at least one female member)."

Someone has to do the cooking and cleaning.

Bands like Matt & Kim, Wavves and Best Coast are to the kids these days as what Blink 182, NFG and Saves the Day were to my high school generation. It makes you wonder if Pitchfork would have praised them had the independent music industry and timing had been any different.

My friend dragged me out to a Matt & Kim show a few months back and it was unbearable not to mention a huge lesbian took out some little guy next to me at the end of the show for no reason. SO MUCH ANGER IN THESE KIDS TODAY!

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?

Nothing, you already told her twice!

The Phoenix, AZ date is Blink 182, Matt & Kim and Jimmy Eat World. Woooo!

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 10:14 AM

Worst. Band. Ever.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 10:30 AM

lol why is this being covered? blecch.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 10:47 AM

@1012am. I'm on the same boat. thursday, midtown, std, catch 22, grade, glassjaw, taking back sunday....early 2000 good stuff.

best coast covering dammit might have been the worst cover done ever by any band....

matt and kim = good thing for them making $$$ but seriously one of the worst bands i ever seen.

p.s. todd p is going down south. hasn't booked anything decent at all these past few months....

Um, didn't the thermals play the warped tour? You're acting like this is some kind of hardcore punk group.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 10:50 AM

How can you "try" to play Dammit? It's a rather simple song, Best Coast had to have tried hard to make it sound that awful.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 10:56 AM

The punkest band to ever play the Warped Tour was BE Your Own Pet only because even they had the balls to realize how lame the entire thing was.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 10:57 AM

Man, Blink 182, MCR are MUCH better than Wavves or Best Coast could ever hope to be. Not sure how those two latter bands get the "indie" pass.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 11:17 AM

Holy shit. Never has one headline contained so much suck. And article called "Hitler Takes Giant Dump on Kittens" would make me feel better inside than this entire post.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 12:08 PM

@12:08, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 12:15 PM

11:17 because their albums are kinda fuzzy. that's all.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 12:35 PM

its awesome to watch what $ does.

always felt that this band getting big was purely hipster driven, fully accelerated drivel...

felt bad for people who liked them, missing out on so much other music - yes, there IS music that exists that doesnt get covered by pitchfork or even booked by todd p.... there are great bands all over, clear out yr filters.

but its just always nice to grab that "told you so" feeling, especially when you never cared enuff to tell anyone "so" about this shitty band in the 1st place,...its just good to see them become who and what they really are.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 1:52 PM

Can someone please blow one of these shows up. Thanks.

"Man, Blink 182, MCR are MUCH better than Wavves or Best Coast could ever hope to be."

I love music blogs where we can come together and talk about good music. Some old dude played me MDC and I said "enjoy your hummus I only listen to real shit- like MCR" Pretty cool, huh, guys?

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 4:34 PM

Worse Than Hitler!

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2011 5:00 PM

Lol @2:33

Saw this band by accident at a festival - can't imagine anything worse than their music. Actually their show is worse than their music.

They should change their name to Shiteating Grins - that's all we got.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2011 1:22 AM

If they ate it on stage and then grinned, it would be more entertaining.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2011 1:47 AM

I don't think Mark Hoppus loves best coast, sounds like his typical and fitting sarcasm.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2011 1:26 PM

Hey Matt and Kim!! After this tour maybe you can charge even more for your tickets???!

Posted by Ashley | June 13, 2011 2:11 PM

MCR fuckin sucks. im goin for matt & kim and Blink 182 is alright. Im guessing all of you haters are little poser girls or boys or just deaf

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2011 1:06 AM

I'm not even into these bands, but some of you lot (ie: most) are such utter fucking whining bitter little trolls.
Typical fucking internet pussies moaning and bitching about stuff, be it music, films, etc because you are underachievers living in a world that tells you that ordinary people are entitled to an equal shot at fame - and that your comments and opinions are valid and should be heard.

Fuck you.
