Steve Earle

Steve Earle kicked off his summer tour on June 9th in Seattle and played the Crystal Ballroom in Portland one night later. The pictures in this post are from that show.

It's Steve's first full band tour in many years. That band, "the Dukes (and Duchesses)", includes his wife Allison Moorer who he sings duets with and who plays some of her own material half way through the long show.

"The show comes to an end after about two-and-a-half hours, until the artists return for the first of two encores. Earle and the Dukes (and Duchesses) open the first encore with the title track of the newly released album and novel, "I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive," a cover of the last song released by Hank Williams before he died.

The first encore ends with Earle's popular "Guitar Town," which re-energizes the crowd and sparks a second encore. Once Earle and crew return to the stage again, he slowly picks his guitar while praising President Obama, chastising republican Supreme Court justices and saying "I ain't no Democrat y'all. I'm well to the left of that."

This leads into the singalong "Come back Woody Guthrie" tune before three more songs close out the set.

Three hours after taking the stage to start the concert, the 56-year-old Steve Earle is still full of passion for singing and performing. It's clear he belongs above the crowd, not with them." [Oregon Music News]

No opener. That's likely how it will be when the tour finally gets to NYC in September. Tickets are still on sale for the shows at Music Hall of Williamsburg and Town Hall.

Since we last spoke Steve has also added a bunch of dates. All of them with more pictures from Oregon, below...

His old stuff is so much better

well if he professes to be "to the left" of democrats, what the FUCK is he doing "praising Obama"??? praising him for WHAT?

lying his ass off to get elected, continuing the patriot act, continuing the iraq and afghan wars (escalating troop levels in the latter), illegal drone strikes in sovereign countries (nixon's bombing of laos and cambodia comes to mind) and giving huge handouts to wall street, etc, etc, etc.???

obama has been nothing but a fucking CON MAN...the so-called "left" has been duped, willfully or otherwise by this wolf in sheep's clothing...

he's WORSE than Bush was -- he misled a large part of america into thinking he was far more progressive than he really is...jesus, at least Bush was honest about being a right-wing douche bag...

youtube: The Obama Deception if you want to see just how "progressive" obama is...he's a fucking empty suit...

And yes they cling to the dream just like similar hard head dummies never question the previous man who caused deregulation.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 3:06 AM

...and to further punctuate 1:41am's comment, he has NOT improved the lives of my fellow brunchwave brethren struggling on a $70k salary!! The price of hummus has gone up and continues to do so! How can we as brunchwave Americans afford to uphold our elitest hipster lifestyles if it costs just as much for rent as it does for a non-soiled cum rag?!

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 8:24 AM

1:41-agreed!

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 9:24 AM

Does steve earle have parkinson's? SOrt of a serious question. He shakes a lot.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 9:45 AM

^ Hmmm. I never noticed. I'll have to check.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 9:53 AM

>>This leads into the singalong "Come back Woody Guthrie" tune <<

The song is called 'Christmas In Washinton'

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 9:57 AM

Leave Obama alone. He's the chosen one.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 10:11 AM

Steve,

Cut the remaining 12 strands off the top of your head.

Sincerely,
Bald Acceptance

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 10:20 AM

every one of his songs sounds exactly the same.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 11:06 AM

i love bush

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 12:38 PM

And if Mr. Earle's response is "well, he's much better than a Republican would be" 1. that's a fucking partisan douchebag Democratic position and 2. see above poster's partial list of the ways in which Obama is more like Bush than Bush was

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 1:55 PM

^ Hey, 1:41 AM! Glad you could make it back! Gotta wipe that whipped cream off your face though, you look like you've got rabies!

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 3:49 PM

3;49, makes no sense at all. nevertheless, personal attacks instead of substantive responses to the issues...who looks like a jerk now???

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 4:46 PM

New band is getting rave reviews, especially Chris Masterson.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2011 5:28 PM

Seriously no love for Arkansas? wtf...

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2011 1:55 PM

arkansas is a red state and steve earle is an obama democrat

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2011 3:07 PM

"3;49, makes no sense at all. nevertheless, personal attacks instead of substantive responses to the issues...who looks like a jerk now???"

Obviously it makes sense, since you took it as a personal attack. So the jerk is still you, I'm afraid. No need to dig your hole any deeper, tex.

Posted by Anonymous | June 16, 2011 3:25 PM

3;25, no one "took" anything. we're all still wondering what point you're trying to make -- since it's obviously not articulate enough, nor related to the topic at hand...

I used to love his music. Then I went to one of his concerts and he was such a pompous blowhard who loved to hear himself speak that I can't listen to him anymore.

Steve Earle is the smartest, most talented & sensitive hillbilly ever!

Posted by Charlene Pursey | June 17, 2011 11:15 PM

RIP Harley

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2011 11:38 PM

I can't stand his politics but I do LOVE the music and that's all I'm there for. Guitar Town is one of the best albums ever made. I have had so many copies, all worn out with play.

Posted by Diane Barnes | July 27, 2011 8:07 AM

^^^ LAME.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2011 8:28 AM

5.27. Exactly. He should shut up and play. But he's such a bombastic asshole, that will never happen.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2012 8:51 PM

^^
"shut up and play"

Oh, fuck you.
