The Low Anthem @ Music Hall of Williamsburg

Last night, 6/15, The Low Anthem played their second NYC area show in three months with Daniel Lefkowitz (they played Bowery in March). The show was at Music Hall of Williamsburg and this time also included a set by These United States. Photographer Toby Tenenbaum described it as "one of the best of the year so far".
Former Low Anthem member Dan Lefkowitz opened the show with a delicate folk/Blues set. He was joined for the last two songs of his set by a bow and saw and the Low Anthem drummer. The Low Anthem have tonight off, but play Newtown, CT at Edmond Town Hall with Daniel Lefkowitz Friday (6/17) before heading to the Clearwater Fest, one of many festival appearances scheduled for te band this summer, both here and in the EU. Full tour schedule, and more pictures from the Brooklyn show, below...These United States followed soon after with an energetic set to contrast Lefkowitz's. The Low Anthem went on stage at 11PM. They played for just under 2 hours... the highlight of the evening [was] when the band surrounded the microphone for the ensemble acoustic numbers. During the encore for "This Old House" Ben Knox Miller performed his now-famous cell phone "69" feedback trick asking all audience members to call the person next to them and place their cell phone inverted next to each other to eerie, yet tuneful, effect.

Daniel Lefkowitz was really good - seen him a few times now and I think this was his best showing. 'These United States' are absolutely awful, a group of PopIdol wannabes. The Low Anthem are totally gorgeous. Probably the best band in America. (And therefore the world - which is a wishing well, and we are all pennies, and god is a little boy.)

Low Anthem are my favorite band, and I annoy my friends regularly proselytizing for them. Plus, I have a desperate crush on Jocie.

What a surprising, great show. They played a beautiful set. Last song, "This Old House" (?), complete with an audience full of chirping, feeding-back cell phones was a great mix of acoustic instruments and re-used modern tech. Incredible - worth seeing even if, like me, you'd never heard their music before.

The song is called "This God Damn House" and it has nothing at all to do with carpentry, Bob Villa or Home Depot.
