Amy Winehouse @ Bowery Ballroom in 2007 (more)
Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her home in London, it has been reported.

The Back To Black singer was apparently found at the property in by emergency services at 3.54pm this afternoon, according to sources, and her death is being treated as 'unexplained' by police.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: 'Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.

'On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.
'Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.'

It is thought her father Mitch has yet to find out about his daughter's untimely passing, as he is currently on his way to America to perform at a jazz festival.

Winehouse had been seen with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield earlier this week as the teenager took to the stage at the iTunes festival.

She refused to join in for Mama Said, but did support the 14-year-old with a few dance moves before urging the crowd to buy Dionne's new album Good For The Soul.

A source said: 'Amy staggered onstage and grabbed the mic to beg the crowd to buy her protege's new album.'

Winehouse's appearance at the concert came after she cancelled her European tour following a disastrous performance in June when she stumbled onto the stage in Belgrade and gave an incoherent performance appearing very disorientated and removed from reality.
Following the concert which saw fans enraged and the subsequent video that circulated to millions she cancelled the remaining dates of her European tour. [Daily Mail]

RIP Amy

The 27 club strikes again.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 1:01 PM

She joined the 27 club. Cemented in rock n roll mythology. Jim, Janis, Kurt, Amy.. super talented, gone way early. Sad, but not surprised.

This should be interesting
RIP

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 1:03 PM

Ugh. As inevitable as it seems from afar, there must have been people in her life who were trying to help her straighten out and held out hope that someday she would. I'm sure plenty of commenters here can relate.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 1:08 PM

I knew this would happen when I saw her shameful appearance in Belgrade last month. The world's no poorer and I look forward to her replacement. So fed up with self-indulgent, self-pitying people like her who have everything and still treat society with contempt.

She was already replaced by Adele, and well Sharon Jones is a million times better than she was.

Also, 82 children were killed in Norway yesterday. I'm much more sad about that.

the club 27 entry on wikipedia has already been updated. people have way too much time on their hands.

You must be a Republican. Oh, wait... that would make you a self-indulgent twat yourself.
As for Amy, only sympathy for her family and sadness at a great talent who couldn't beat her own demons.

You will have a prolonged chance afterward to reflect on such irresponsible behavior, but not without a cost. I honestly can't wait. For Amy.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 4:17 PM

@2:45 I don't think any of the d-baggery on here is really thinking about it that much. they're just in their own little self absorbed cloud, mindless typing away at the internet. 2.5 seconds after they posted they've already forgot about it and moved onto some other vapid self centered task.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 4:38 PM

Not sure why political parties have anything to do with this.. I have Republican friends who are sad about her death, too. Nonetheless, it's a damn shame about Amy. I'm sad for her family and friends, and for the fact that she didn't get to share more music with us.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 6:11 PM

3:11 - Member of the tribe? I didn't know she was Native American....

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 9:52 PM

Ive been told that Little Miss Cant Be Wrong was originally called Little Miss Cant Be Winehouse, but thats too may syllables, and if you could actually be Winehouse, you would be dead

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 9:52 PM

This is Chris Barron, lead singer of Spin Doctors. It was never publicized but Amy and I had a long and storied romantic love life together. The song Little Miss Can't Be Wrong is actually about Amy. The lines "She hold the shotgun while you do-si-do, She want one man made of Hercules and Cyrano" was in reference to Amy telling me that my beard's odor was so powerful that it could move mountains. Her armpits were equally as potent, but I liked her story better... and the rest is history. I immediately smelled #1 hit, and was right.

Posted by Chris Barron | July 23, 2011 9:53 PM

I had no idea that Amy had such close ties to Spin Doctors. It all makes sense now actually. At this point I would be less surprised if Amy Winehouse created a flying car powered by blow jobs than if she made it through a weekend without any of the stories like this.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 9:59 PM

I heard Chris Barron, lead singer of Spin Doctors, has a flying car powered by the hair from his beard!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 10:01 PM

Ive gotten high with Amy Winehouse, and she told me she thought cars were powered by blow jobs. So I drove her all around the city whenever she came to nyc

1:17pm -

Ahaha...What do you think she died of? A peanut allergy? Give me a break.

She collapsed on all that plus heroin back in '07. And she reportedly bought all that stuff over the past few days.

Wait until the autopsy and I think we'll all be told exactly what everyone already knows in the back of their mind.

Plenty of very talented people have cut their lives short because of drugs...sometimes it goes with the territory, but that doesn't make them any less of a douchebag for it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2011 2:47 PM

Spin Doctors “2 Princes” has to be the best song of the millenium, nothing else compares to the Spin Doctors first of all, they are quite the jacks of all trades, and then they hit us with 2 Princes and we aren’t suppose to cream. Just go ahead now. The art direction on the video was spectacular, wearing goofy winter hats, black and white, cardboard signs, zooming in and out. Just take that man and throw him a million dollars, because that man should be King, or perhaps a Prince, hehehehe.
Funny story, in 6th grade when we were first introduced in the class after summer we had to say our name, and the teacher thought it would be funny for us to include our favorite band. I had to go first because that was position in the giant U. I couldn't think, I froze up and said Spin Doctors. Worst day of my life, which turned into the worst year, no one forgets that.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2011 4:00 PM

A good meme makes you chuckle a little, shake your head and think "how can I add to this concept?". A bad meme is just plain fucking annoying. Good memes are started by intelligent genuinely creative people, while bad memes are started by zit-faced high school twerps that bear more than a striking resemblance to Beevis and Butthead.

The Spin Doctors thing, as seen above, does not even rank as a bad meme. It is a fail, utter fail.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2011 4:18 PM

While we are on subject on Beavis and Butthead, they are reuniting. The anticipation makes me almost as excited as a Spin Doctors reunion tour

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2011 5:08 PM

I saw her live at the Highline Ballroom with the Dap-Kings. Brilliant. Definitely one of the best concerts I've ever been to. She was just drunk and happy, before the slide into drugged and out of control. I always hoped she'd pull it together: hell, I'd have been happy with a record of reggae-tinged covers, like Monkey Man and Cupid, or It's My Party. Now I just hope for any kind of unreleased work. Two freakin' records is not enough for her massive talent.

Posted by RomanHans | July 24, 2011 5:32 PM

^^^ Amen! A comment about anything other than the Spin Doctors and Dream Theater.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2011 5:41 PM

The talent deserved a more responsible spirit to pilot it

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2011 6:42 PM

ive heard conflicting reports on a record in the can. one british paper said its done and island was waiting for her to get it together before it was released. us papers said the only thing she's done is covers including the bennet one lately

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2011 2:15 AM

And yet again, the kooky commenters are less annoying than the dim-witted cumstains who think they have any standing to lecture others or tell BV how to run the blog. SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP.

Kurt Cobain > Amy Winehouse

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2011 8:12 AM

^ Both overrated.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2011 9:03 AM

Yeah right. Kurt Cobain was a genius. Every Nirvana record is brilliant. Amy was a frumpy turd that corporate business turned into a overnight success. And no one liked her for long regardless.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2011 9:21 AM

Ol Dirty Bastard> Amy Winehouse

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2011 7:38 PM

If there's someone who doesn't deserve to be in the 27 club, its this one.

Who the fuck cares.

She only killed herself to be on the list.

I said, "Lay it now on the ground, throw in a white noise sound, like a tranny on a ten

Posted by John | August 9, 2011 4:03 PM

Did they announce who won the tickets?

Posted by keny | August 18, 2011 12:58 PM

I love Amy, I'm no fan of women singing, but after I met Alan, I started to like them more than women with the vocal style. Amy will make a big failure. She was a link between the extravagant and ecepcional.

Posted by linkkei.com | August 20, 2011 10:57 AM

Amy, rest in peace! Sorry about your death.

RIP Amy Winehouse... Its a pity, that such a great and famous woman died, but in the other hand, she was suffering from drug addiction and she was an alcoholic...

Posted by Webhostgeeks | September 20, 2011 4:37 AM

That´s a good view of the things: The talent deserved a more responsible spirit to pilot it.
