Iron & Wine in Chicago on June 6th
Iron&Wine_Pritzker_12.jpg

Iron and Wine have been pretty busy after the release of their major label debut Kiss Each Other Clean back in January. They kicked off the year with a tour that hit Radio City, have hit a bunch of festivals, and have more coming including ACL and MusicfestNW, in addition to other international summer shows. There's no evidence they'll keep this up and do a full fall tour, but it doesn't seem entirely out of the question considering they've just announced two NYC dates (and a show in Toronto).

Iron & Wine will play NYC's Terminal 5 on October 12 and 13. Tickets for both NYC shows go on sale Friday (7/15) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (7/13) at noon. No openers have been announced for the shows yet.

Back on June 6th, Iron & Wine played a free show as part of the Downtown Sound Summer Music Series in Chicago. A set of pictures and the setlist from that show are in this post. More of the pics along with all tour dates, below...

Nope not going! hahahha

T5 for Iron and Wine?! Give me a break...

PJ Harvey was bad enough.

P.S. Bjork better not play there next...

I saw Iron and Wine at T5 back in 2008 and it was brutal.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:01 PM

Big news: Apes and Androids are reuiting. It was on their new Facebook page today. Three nights at Brooklyn Bowl are being booked.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:03 PM

Horrible, horrible booking for this band. At least they'll probably only play 75 minutes like they did for Radio City.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:03 PM

Would be nice if everyone decides to just not go. Defend T5 all you want, but this is the worst possible venue for a band like Iron & Wine.

Posted by Cuse | July 6, 2011 1:08 PM

It's amazing that somehow bands and management have no idea how bad T5 is. Seriously- by far the absolute worst venue, which also attracts the worst crowds in the NYC area. Every show has been filled with obnoxious people that never shut the hell up during performances. I've gotten burned too many times, and have passed on so many shows I would have gone to if they were held elsewhere. Really sad...

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:08 PM

Agreed 1:03. I like Iron and Wine, but couldn't imagine anyone wanting to go to see Sam & Co @ T5. Better get some lively openers.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:10 PM

fail

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:11 PM

Iron & Wine is the best Clutch cover band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:14 PM

1:08
Bands and management know very well how bad T5 is. You know what. They just do not care all that much. They get into bed with the Bowery Presents scumbags, make their money and fuck the fans.

Welcome to 2011.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:26 PM

I've determined that everyone who hates T5 are always the morons who get stuck in either the back of the 2nd balcony or on the floor but way on the side near that entry bar. Otherwise, if you're on the floor and fairly center, the venue and sound are both fine.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:30 PM

i've discovered the most amazing spot at Terminal 5, which as long as you get there within an hour of doors opening, it's yours for the night. I'm not going to reveal where it is, but let's just say that I no longer hate going to shows at Terminal 5.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:37 PM

I've determined that everyone who makes comments like 1:30's are either Bowery Presents employees or friends of said employees. That or either morons who would not know a good sounding venue to save their life.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:38 PM

1:30, not everyone has time or willingness to get to the venue as early as needed in order to secure a spot in the 5 or 10% of the venue that's decent. It doesn't make us morons, but it likely makes you unemployed or a simple wage worker.

T5 is the worst, time to deal with reality.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:38 PM

Ok BVers,
Let's protest against managements booking @ T5 from now on...

I mean first it was PJ Harvey, Beirut, Explosions in the Sky, and it keeps going on and on....

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:44 PM

FUCK AND PORTISHEAD JUST ANNOUNCED TWO NIGHTS AT T5 IN OCTOBER. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:48 PM

Whatever, rumor has it the tour behind this album has been sucky anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:56 PM

Hi, I'm 1:30. Let's take this one at a time, shall we.

1:38 #1, I go to more shows than you each year, guaranteed. I know what sounds good and what doesn't. I doubt that you are a "sound expert". I've been to plenty of shows at T5 and it's fine.

1:38 #2, you can still be employed and get to the venue just before the opener and just stand near the back of the floor near the sound booth. If you're too big of a puss to venture through the crowd and want to stand on the side where it sounds like shit, well, then be my guest.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 1:57 PM

"Iron & Wine is the best Clutch cover band."

Don't you mean best Clutch look-a-like band? I don't think they SOUND too much like Clutch.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:05 PM

Hi, I'm 1:38 #1, Actually smart guy 1:30 , unless you go to shows about every single night and sometimes more than one, then you do not go to more shows than me. So take that little statement and shove it up your ass. Secondly, why don't you go ask any reputable sound engineer in this city or any others who have worked at T5 and ask them what they think. To a man they will tell you the place stinks for sound. There are no dynamics in the place.

But i am assuming you also think MSG is a great sounding venue as well. You probably "rock out" there all the time

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:12 PM

1:30/1:57 = Definitely not the seven and a half inch guy. More like the barely 5 incher lol.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:14 PM

YAWN

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:16 PM

Do you all really go to over 300 concerts a year? I manage about 75 a year and am drained from that many shows...

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:26 PM

huh? where have you seen that Portishead is playing two nights at Terminal 5?

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:26 PM

What's more respectable, going to hundreds of crappy shows a year or going to a couple dozen shows of real quality?

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:26 PM

2:12,

I'm gonna call bullshit on you. Really, a show almost every night?

I'm not claiming T5 is the end all be all of great sound but, still, it's enjoyable enough. I mean, it's not like you go there and are unable to decipher the difference between guitar, lyrics, drums, etc.

Also, where did you guys hear Portishead is playing at T5? I'm calling bullshit on that as well...

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:30 PM

sure, t5 sucks, but honestly, how could even t5 make an iron and wine show any worse? i didn't think that was even possible. i'd rather have a root canal on my balls.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 2:58 PM

^ You have teeth growing out of your balls...I think you have bigger problems than Iron and Wine at T5!

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 3:03 PM

Hot Steel (up yer ass) and Whine
Yup, sounds about right

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 3:07 PM

How can anyone stand up at an Iron and Wine show and not pass out?

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 3:09 PM

at least doctor up a fake Bowery Presents website screen shot or something if you're gonna make claims that Portishead is playing Terminal 5. Weak...

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 3:36 PM

arguing on the internet is the best

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 3:46 PM

Portishead are smart enough to not play T5....just like Radiohead, Bjork, Sigur Ros and etc.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 4:04 PM

^ Don't speak too soon, my friend. And never doubt the power of the almighty dollar.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 4:09 PM

4:04
Do you think that Portishead give a flying fuck about NYC clubs? They'll pay World Yacht if the contract is right.
Come to think of it, Portishead on World Yacht would be pretty cool.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 4:15 PM

4:04,

Jonsi (of Sigur Ros) played T5. Just sayin...

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 4:43 PM

How come every time a T5 argument pops up it always ends up into a "I go to more shows than you" e-peen measuring contest.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 4:46 PM

Because the people that drone on and on and on about how T5 sucks feel the need to prove the "concert cred" they have in their heads, which justifies their hipster self righteousness. I always laugh, 'cause I know for a fact that they are analogous to the shrimp that gets sand kicked in his face at the beach, only without the Charles Atlas buildup that used to follow such pathetic examples of humanity. Yep, I'm laughing still. So go on hating, I'll go on laughing.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 5:19 PM

Remember when Iron & Wine played Town Hall? That was great. This is not.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 5:49 PM

Well while 5:19 is busy laughing alone in a corner, the rest of us are in a group laughing directly at him. Apparently he forgot to see the irony in his little monologue of self righteousness and pomposity

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 6:26 PM

^ And you just proved 5:19's point. Congrats.

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 6:37 PM

more like rust and vinegar

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2011 8:22 PM

Jonsi of Sigur Ros should never have toured on his own

Sigur Ros will now be a footnote
