DOWNLOAD: Megafaun - "These Words" (MP3)

Megafaun at Bowery Ballroom in March (more by Ryan Barkan)

Megafaun are releasing their self titled LP on September 20 via Hometapes. Grab the single "These Words" above and watch the album teaser video below.

"Process, songcraft, and toss-and-turn emotion collided when Megafaun's Joe Westerlund looped together field recordings from his travels in Bali and rural North Carolina: a round-robin of gamelan, ambient sounds, frogs, and cicadas underpin a hauntingly indelible piano melody and a hypnotic beat. Then there are the voices.

This song stopped us dead in our tracks, encapsulating the Megafaun we know and the Megafaun we've yet to hear. In between? Well, that's Megafaun, out September 20, 2011." [Hometapes]

Megafaun will go on a short European tour at the end of the summer before returning to the US and playing NYC on September 24 and 25 at Mercury Lounge. Tickets for both NYC shows go on sale Friday (7/15) at noon with an AmEx pre-sale starting Wednesday (7/13) at noon. No other US dates announed yet.

Don't pretend you've heard of this band. BV loves to come up with obscure bullshit to keep there cred up! Your not fooling anybody!

I've heard them AND seen them...Megafaun is awesome! Keep listening to Cults and telling your friends about "the next big thing"

Sorry 1:02. you picked the wrong thread to bust out your insightful critique.

LOTS of people know Megafaun.
They've been around a good while & collab'd with some larger names along the way (Tallest Man, Bon Iver, more..), as well as being J Vernon's former bandmates pre-fame.

Semi-big band on the way to being well bigger.
If this is obscure bullshit to you, your bullshit pile isn't very deep.

1:02 Sure no one has heard of them. They just came out of nowhere, and that is why there are 3 links above to previous shows that BV has covered. They also played with Bowerbirds at Bowery.

I'm surprised you didn't also go with the ridiculously obvious d-bag comment of "Meh-gafaun".

these guys rip it, and aren't afraid to be awesomely funny and goofy, then switch to some seriously heartfelt harmonies and grooves that bring ya up smiling and teary eyed.

Saw them open for Sharon Van Etten at MHOW. They were actually a lot of fun.

yeah, @1:02, you could have said "I'm a fucking idiot" and it would have been similar to what you did say, just using a lot less words. You just lost any and all credibility you may have thought you have. Put that in the tears you cry.

Megafaun rules.

@3:33 you are a bore and your breath is offensive to those around you
please find a pastime where you're not able to write or speak

Never heard of them either... BV sucks!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 4:27 PM

What a huge thread... everyone has heard of this band. Yeah right! They suck!

Hey 3:54, your mom didn't seem bored, ask her about it. Also, I have found a pastime where I don't write or speak.
Again, ask your mom about it.

I really like Megafaun, they're swell. We're from the same state, Wisconsin. I saw them the first time playing at the practice space of Canine Heart Sounds in Duluth, MN, that must've been 4 years ago now. It was super swell.
