They were almost at $4000 when we posted two days ago, and now Silent Barn's Kickstarter is already past $25,000!

How do you get a hipster to actually donate to charity for once?

Rob Silent Barn.

(but seriously folks, pretty amazing what a little support can accomplish)

"How do you get a hipster to actually donate to charity for once?

Burglarize Silent Barn."

Fixed

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 7:38 PM

Is that because people are robbed, places are burglarized? I stand corrected and thank you for helping me avoid future theft related gaffes.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 7:50 PM

More idiots commenting on Silent Barn.
Were people living there legally?

get robbed and burglars give you money lol

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 8:17 PM

i've never even been to a show at silent barn but good for them. as a musician who has had gear stolen it is the fucking worst.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 8:25 PM

Question: Was the gear stolen even worth 25k?
Answer: Doubtful...

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 8:40 PM

"Question: Was the gear stolen even worth 25k?
Answer: Doubtful..."

I was kind of wondering where the fuck the 40K number was coming from. With Craigslist and eBay, I could replace all of their "staple" equipment for about 6K

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 8:46 PM

Exactly, it was a bunch of crap equipment. Were not talking vintage Moog's and Allen & Heath mixers...for god sakes!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 8:48 PM

Also, this person on Queens crap makes a GREAT point

"YOu don't have insurance so you made this value. Go the fuck home hipster scum"

EXACTLY. YOu want to operate a venue without insurance? Fine, but when something happens (fire, theft, etc...) you better have plenty of rich/stupid friends willing to bail you out.

I do not support this kickstarter campaign.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 8:50 PM

Impressive that they have raised that much so far, but like others have stated it's very dumb to not have some form of insurance, especially when there are a lot of people coming through. Also yea that stuff is worth no wear near 40k, let alone 25k.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 8:54 PM

and they DO have plenty of "stupid" friends to bail them out
so fuck you can fuck off

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 9:05 PM

And the only reason those stupid friends are donating is so they don't look like shit heels. This whole thing, though tragic, just REAKS of ego and keeping face.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 9:07 PM

Hardly * tragic*. getting shot in the face or sliced up and thrown in a dumpster, that's tragic.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 9:29 PM

I like the cut of Queens Crap's jib.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 9:30 PM

Wow, so this is hipster dialogue? neat.

Posted by sam miiler | July 22, 2011 9:40 PM

they donate for different reasons, a lot of them personal

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 9:42 PM

i donated because i know them and i support them
i donated because i'm lost
i donated because they ACTUALLY let me play there
i donated because i'm an idiot
i donated because i've lost myself there a few times
i donated because i love that place
i donated because i just fucking donated
i donated because i'm broke
i donated because i'm loaded
i donated because i wanted to flip the bird at BV
and i donated because i'm optimistic

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 9:45 PM

"I donated because I like rewarding people for their amateurism and stupidity"

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 9:50 PM

Attention NYC thieves: There's going to be some more deck gear there to rip off soon!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 9:55 PM

Why did they have insurance? And if they had insurance---why are they asking for handouts?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 10:29 PM

What good is a silent barn if people never shut the fuck up about it?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 10:33 PM

Obviously they didn't have insurance, and they aren't asking for handouts. If you don't want to see Silent Barn flourish, don't donate. It's pretty simple.

Posted by Anonymouse | July 22, 2011 10:55 PM

" they aren't asking for handouts"

AH, so the kicksstarter thing is performance art. DEEP

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 11:11 PM

impressive that they raised more then any of the people living there will ever make in a year

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 11:12 PM

Yes, because what a person makes in a year defines him

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2011 11:15 PM

True, 11:15. There are so many ways to define these clowns as losers without even getting into income.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 12:04 AM

that is too much money. they could replace that shit used for $5k tops. with $25k they should have a steller system.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 12:09 AM

Lots of legitimate charities could use $25k. Lots of hungry people in the world, lots without clean water. They are legitimately in need.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 12:22 AM

worldvision.org
one.org
thewaterproject.org
childrensaidsociety.org

to name a few

Let's find a way to hate on our fellow hipsters. It's what hipsters do best. But really, I hope they donate some of the extra funds that come outta this to other groups. Their drinks were always expensive as f*ck for DIY.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 1:12 AM

how is the the water project's PA?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 1:13 AM

^ now THAT'S why I always keep reading to the end of the thread

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 1:50 AM

i donated because i like them, and i hate you

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 4:39 AM

56 days until silent barn gets paid in the shade, and the haters can only just keep hatin
pace yourselves guys

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 4:44 AM

see the glory of the royal scam

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 7:39 AM

INSIDE JOB

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 8:56 AM

yes I fully agree with many of the above posts. the silent barn are not the open sorts that they may proclaim to be. I also don`t understand the legal side of things. are they legally there or not?? why should I help a bunch of nobody hipsters when they won`t help or give any of that money to the immigrant families they have displaced. when a black kid dies on a brooklyn street no one starts a kickstarter, do they?

Posted by anonymous | July 23, 2011 10:59 AM

INSIDE JOB is right! Look how much they will profit off of this. They will get the money, use 1/3rd of it on the gear and pocket the rest. Fucking fucks. They better donate some of that to a good cause.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 11:24 AM

if you build it they will come

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 12:37 PM

you guys are really so retarded, this was obviously NOT an inside job.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 12:38 PM

"Lots of legitimate charities could use $25k. Lots of hungry people in the world, lots without clean water. They are legitimately in need."

It's possible to give a shit about more than one issue, and to donate to more than one cause.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 12:48 PM

It's extremely difficult NOT to think there is something shady going on here. Sorry. If I was under 30, I MIGHT believe there isn't.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 1:57 PM

In other news, it is now hip to hate underground venues.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 2:32 PM

It is hip to hate underground venues with a Yelp page.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 3:10 PM

7:39 I wish I could kiss you

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 3:39 PM

What a bunch of limp dicked cynical turds most of you are. god forbid somebody actually get a little money to put a decent space together in NYC. Maybe you can ask daddy's lawyer to help em out with the whole insurance thing. Make yourself useful eh?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 4:19 PM

if you don't like it don't donate

simple as that

Posted by pfft | July 23, 2011 7:09 PM

I'm convinced, based on the above comments plus those from the previous 2 reports on the alleged crime, that the average BV reader has woefully little empirical knowledge of how the world actually works. As your Daddy, I am advising you all to (1) spend 6 months traveling in Central America, the Middle East or sub-Sahara Africa, then (2) when you return, get a job - a real job - and take your ass reaming like the rest of us for no less than 3 continuous years. THEN, come on back and post what you have learned about how others really live and what it is to be a productive member of society. That is all.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 8:13 PM

Thats a lot of money they are asking and were they living there legally? When you cant reply you might say its "hip to hate underground venues".

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 8:31 PM

INSIDE JOB is right! Look how much they will profit off of this. They will get the money, use 1/3rd of it on the gear and pocket the rest. Fucking fucks. They better donate some of that to a good cause.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 8:37 PM

RIM JOB is right! Look how much they will wiggle and squeak from this. They will get their fisting, do 3 guys at once on the new gear and swallow the rest. Fucking fucks. They better give up some of that free love to a good cock.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2011 8:49 PM

Look at it this way: if they successfully raise the money but then fuck it all up, no one will want to contribute to any similar cause in the future.

There's more riding on this fundraiser than is immediately apparent.

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2011 12:12 PM

They tried to get me to give money to Silent Barn
and I said "No, No, No!"

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2011 1:22 PM

y'all haters need to go hang out at terminal 5

Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2011 3:53 PM

"You want answers?"
"I think that I'm entitled to answers ..."
"You want answers!"
"I want the truth!"
"YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH"

this Academy Award moment was brought to you by 3:53, who does not want to believe.
