Soundgarden

Soundgarden played Borgata Spa & Resort Event Center on Thursday (7/14) in Atlantic City, NJ with The Mars Volta. Soundgarden's setlist was pretty similar to their earlier shows at Jones Beach and Prudential Center, save for a few songs.

The Mars Volta's setlist consisted entirely of new songs except for the last song "Goliath," off their 2008 LP The Bedlam in Goliath. The songs are assumingly off of their upcoming full length, which supposedly will be released in 2012. The Soungarden/MV tour continues through the end of July.

Always cool to go to a concert with your dad and have him buy and wear the band's shirt at the show.

Impressed with the SG set-list and the videos sound better than I thought they would. The few times I saw them in the 90's Cornell's voice kinda sucked.

Holy Crap! I wonder if Mars Volta played any ATDI songs? Also, saw Mars Volta live years ago and they sucked then too!

Shepherd was born on an American military base in Okinawa, Japan. His family moved to Texas, then settled in Bainbridge Island, Washington, where Shepherd grew up, playing in numerous punk-rock bands with friends before he was a teenager. After graduating high school, he worked as a carpenter and a laborer. He became involved in the grunge scene when he worked as a roadie for Nirvana and played in Tic Dolly Row with Chad Channing. He was being considered for the open guitarist slot (after Jason Everman was fired) in Nirvana when he joined Soundgarden.

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2011 7:31 PM

This was a great show. Soundgarden was on fuckin' point; stellar song selection (minus the omission of "Rusty Cage", of course). Very odd place to see a band, though.

Posted by Anonymous | July 19, 2011 7:35 PM

I hate how people think its OK for the Mar Volta to neglect their old martial, which is far better than the new garbage they been spewing out.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 3:16 AM

Volta is OPENING for a band from the late 80's/90's. They can play whatever the fuk they want. If you just went there to see them then dont expect to hear their greatest hits....which is about 2 songs. Deloused in the comatorium IMO is probably one of the best prog albums ever recorded but i wouldnt expect them to play those tunes on an opening slot for SG-who i thought killed it

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 8:18 AM

the mars volta always plays whatever they want. no surprise there.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 8:50 AM

Dana gettin' all moist on Chris Cornell.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 9:58 AM

"Soundgarden > Dream Theater"

Them's fightin' words son.

Just messin'. Never thought I would see DT mentioned here. Taste that, trendies!

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 10:20 AM

The Mars Volta are little girls that are aways complaining, they make odd future seem tolerable. I can't believe people are still listening to them.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 11:17 AM

I hope Spin Doctors play some old material, their new stuff sucks. Pocket full of Kryptonite is the bomb.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 11:37 AM

"The Mars Volta are little girls that are aways complaining, they make odd future seem tolerable. I can't believe people are still listening to them."

Never got their schtick either. At least Omar Rodriguez seems tolerable. Cedric is just an uber-annoying pompous fuckface.

Like most people, I had no idea the Spin Doctors were still around. Didn't Chris Barron lose his voice for a while or something?

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 11:58 AM

Yeah im in for Spin Doctors...a cheap night of entertainment! Your Mama's a Pajama!

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 12:36 PM

I don't know if I should cringe or laugh at the spin doctors.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 12:40 PM

At the time all of you fools owned Pocket Full of kryptonite...don't deny it! BMG baby!

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 1:01 PM

I think it's funny that some are questioning whether people still listen to The Mars Volta, when these same people are going to see a Soundgarden show, and talking about the Spin Doctors. Oh the irony...

Posted by D | July 20, 2011 1:03 PM

My dad owned Pocket Full of Kryptonite and I still haven't forgiven him.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 1:04 PM

There is nothing wrond with some occasional nostalga D. I don't listen to them anymore but for a nights entertainment why not. Same reason people see old movies on tv they watched ions ago just to recapture a moment from the past. No one here is a die hard Spin Doctors fan and that is the irony

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 1:14 PM

nothing wrong I mean :)

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 1:31 PM

Hey I took that video of Mailman, was looking for Mars Volta stuff and wound up here. Would have liked at least liked to get a message saying this would be used on a site, next time perhaps

Other than that the show was killer! Great setlist, sound was so-so a couple of times but overall fantastic show

Posted by Laura | July 20, 2011 8:15 PM

I saw spin doctors at sobs in 1990 and it changed my life. I grabbed the singers beard and now proficient in curing cancer just by the touch of my fingertips

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 10:46 PM

I heard the singer of the spin doctors had a huge pocket full of kryptonite until he got herpes

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 10:51 PM

I went to a spin doctors show one time to try and cure my herpes. It was then I realized that the spin doctors werent doctors at all.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 11:22 PM

I got my prostate checked at my last spin doctors concert.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 11:30 PM

I was a guest one time on the o'riely factor No Spin Zone, but the spin doctors came on there and just had to spin the hell out of it. Thanks spin doctors.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 11:36 PM

My love for the Spin Doctors is like diarrhea, I just cant hold it in

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2011 11:47 PM

Spin Doctors were sorta listenable, but I tried my best to avoid them since anything that smacks of hippie should die. Hell, I would have burned down Wetlands with a full crowd inside if given half the chance.

Nice try, anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2011 10:28 AM

This is the singer of the Spin Doctors. Any time someone mentions our band and diarrhea in the same sentence, then I know we changed lives. We are the reason Arcade Fire exist. We paved the way

Posted by Chris Barron | July 21, 2011 11:46 AM

Chris and I have been working hard on our Pocket Full of Kyrptonite reunion show, and based on the rapid fandom here we might have to change the venue from Bowery to Madison Square Garden. Arcade Fire & Soundgarden will open. In other news, I am currently working on a solo album called Satchel Full of Dynamite. It's going to be huge.

Posted by Eric Schenkman | July 21, 2011 12:45 PM

Hey Eric old friend. I cannot wait to spread our love to our millions of fans that have been music listening purgatory since our smash album Pocket Full of Kryptonite was released. I heard our show at MSG sold out in 15 minutes. LCD Soundsystem has nothing on us. MAYBE, I WILL CALL YOU BABY, JUST GO AHEAD NOW

Posted by Chris Barron | July 21, 2011 12:52 PM

As the singer of The Arcade Fire I can confirm that Pocket Full of Kryptonite was my favorite album when I was a teenager living in Texas. It had a drastic effect on The Arcade Fire sound. The lyrics "She hold the shotgun while you do-si-doe. She want one man made of Hercules and Cyrano" really spoke to me and Regine. We're honored to be opening for them in New York.

Chris Barron served me coffee on Bedford last week. that hack cant even make a decent cup a joe

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2011 1:31 PM

This is the singer from blues traveller. I was originally the singer for Spin Doctors. And I was kicked out when the guitarist heard Chris singing on the J train for money. The rest is rock history. Im still bitter.

Posted by John Popper | July 21, 2011 1:34 PM

The Horde Festival was a special time for me. The Allman Brothers jammeed on Southbound with the great Chris Barron.

It was special...

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2011 1:42 PM

I want to say that Soundgarden is not opening up Spin Doctors. We would never stoop to that level. Afterall, I'm Chris Cornell. I covered Michael Jackson, I was in Audioslave, I was in Temple of the Dog, I wrote the main song for a James Bond movie, I'm in Soundgarden, and I'm known for my wide vocal range, spanning B1-G5 in full voice, and up to E6 in falsetto, as well as my powerful vocal belting technique. In comparison to all of that The Spin Doctors suck, but I have to admit humming that Doba-Do Doba-Do, Diba Diba Diba, Daba Daba Daba part from Two Princes every once and awhile. Chris Barron nailed that part.

Posted by Chris Cornell | July 21, 2011 1:42 PM

you're not Chris Cornell... I watched him die...

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2011 1:46 PM

Spin Doctors “2 Princes” has to be the best song of the millenium, nothing else compares to the Spin Doctors first of all, they are quite the jacks of all trades, and then they hit us with 2 Princes and we aren’t suppose to cream. Just go ahead now. The art direction on the video was spectacular, wearing goofy winter hats, black and white, cardboard signs, zooming in and out. Just take that man and throw him a million dollars, because that man should be King, or perhaps a Prince, hehehehe.

Funny story, in 6th grade when we were first introduced in the class after summer we had to say our name, and the teacher thought it would be funny for us to include our favorite band. I had to go first because that was position in the giant U. I couldn't think, I froze up and said Spin Doctors. Worst day of my life, which turned into the worst year, no one forgets that.
