Mac & Keith (photo by Andrew St. Clair)
Superchunk

We have a full post with pictures and review of last night's show at House of Vans coming, but meanwhile check out a video of 2/3 of Superchunk's encore, aka the part where (Off!'s) Keith Morris came out and performed Gimme Gimme Gimme (Black Flag) and Where Eagles Dare (Misfits) with Mac and band. It was pretty amazing (especially the Misfits part, no offense Keith). Video below...

This was amazing. The whole House of Vans experience was pretty amazing.

You are going to give me free beer and great sight lines to watch Keith Morris sing Black Flag with Superchunk? Awesome night.

Relax with the over hype. It was good no doubt but cmon Keith sang one Black Flag song with Superchunk. He never sang on the Misfits song. He stood on the side.
A fun time but let's calm down a bit. Superchunk, as always, put on a great show.

Show ruled.

11:18 were you there? Were you enjoying the unlimited free beers? Calm down with the "cool" under-hype. That shit was insane.

And Mac does a damn good Danzig impression.

yeah... at the risk of overhyping and causing the future shows to fill up quicker... this shit fuckin RULED

superchunk, off!, and lemuiria, unlimited free beer, better sound than most NYC venues, in a sweet wherehouse with an outdoor patio?

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:25 AM

agreed, the venue was comfortable, the sound was very good, the beer was free, superchunk played and then superchunk played with keith morris. i can't think of a show i enjoyed more this year.

Converge/All Pigs Must Die/Special Guests on 8/25 will own all of these House of Vans shows!

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:30 AM

wait, what? Is that real 11:30?

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:45 AM

Super fun show! Kudos to the House of Vans folks for doing it right, I was pleasantly surprised. Totally positive experience on all fronts.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:46 AM

Agreed with the rest of the positive comments here. The whole vibe was cool - staffers were cool, very interesting space, great music. Free beer and water too.

I did think the sound was a bit muddy, but then you expect that in a concrete and steel warehouse, don't you. And if that's my biggest 'complaint' - and it is* - that's not bad at all.

Awesome night, awesome event. Well done, Vans!

*Yeah, Heineken Light sucks. But it was free, and for a free beer, you could do a lot worse. So not gonna gripe about that.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:51 AM

i wish i had known there was free beer. i wouldn't have stayed at the front of the stage all night :( i suck.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:52 AM

how was the pit?

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:53 AM

11:18 here again. Yes i was there and never said it was a bad show. I said it was a very good and fun show but "insane" "amazing" "best show of the year" "sounding incredible" OH PLEASE
That is completely ridiculous and over hyped. Come back to reality.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:55 AM

Nice show, but the sound was shit. so muddy! That said, had a good time and will no doubt be at the next one.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:55 AM

If the sound was muddy that is a pretty big deal. The sound is the whole point, not free beer.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:57 AM

Sounded great from... at home on the webcast.

Damn, I wish I went.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 11:58 AM

11:57 the place is a warehouse/skate park. The point isn't the sound. It isn't a real venue. The fact that it happened at all is amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:04 PM

how many people were in line by the time doors opened?

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:06 PM

"The point isn't the sound. It isn't a real venue. The fact that it happened at all is amazing."

This is exactly why the comments about shows on here are so off base and stupid. These are the types of idiots who make these hyped up idiotic comments. The sound is always the point you dumb motherfucker. it is shits like you that cause places like Terminal 5 to exist.

And the fact it happened at all is amazing??? Really, cause Superchunk have played in the city a number of times in the last few years and so has OFF since they started.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:10 PM

no, really, how was the pit?

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:17 PM

You had to move around the place till you got to a sweet spot for the sound, but it was fine for a free show. If I had paid I would be more disappointed, but you can't really go wrong with awesome free music from great bands and free booze.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:17 PM

Glad I wasn't there with you bickerers.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:18 PM

there were a LOT of people (myself included) lined up by the time the doors opened, but people who showed up after doors opened did not have a problem getting in.

There was a small (15-20 people) but aggro pit for OFF!

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:21 PM

Yeah 12:06, i spoke to one of the organizers last night outside. Everyone got in last night as well as the last one. They did not turn anyone away. It is a huge place. No need to line up for hours beforehand.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:28 PM

Lame

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:32 PM

The line SUCKED!

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:36 PM

Fuck that show would have been the joint to see

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:37 PM

12:10 needs to stop drinking so much coffee. Or maybe the awesomeness of watching Keith Morris singing Black Flag has him really amped up right now.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:38 PM

"These are the types of idiots who make these hyped up idiotic comments"

Definition of an idiot = anyone winning an argument against a hipster

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:40 PM

The sound sucked unless you were in the back.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:43 PM

there was no line. the venue was barley full.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:48 PM

flash photography ruins shows

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 12:53 PM

barley full? i would have said oat full...

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 1:55 PM

Got in around 9:30 to see Superchunk. Friend got in just after 10pm. No one was turned away at the doors and it wasnt all that packed.

Guess everyone was at tUnEyArDs. Around 8:30pm Vans posted on twitter that there was still plenty of space and to come on down.

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 2:15 PM

show ruled

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 3:49 PM

lousy show

Posted by Anonymous | July 15, 2011 3:57 PM

The venue was not barely full it was probably like 75% full it's a really wide space with a big outside section the only places that were empty was areas you couldn't see that well from
Agreed on the sound being muddy though it would hard to imagine what else could be done in a space like that.. Glad it was free. The overall vibe I thought was very fun so I think most people took the sound
with a grain of salt
