Flaming Lips at Sasquatch 2011 (more by Josh Darr)
Flaming Lips

We previously mentioned that the Flaming Lips would play after Weezer at their co-headlining shows at Jones Beach and PNC Bank Arts Center "because the Flaming Lips make such a big mess that its sort of logistically unwise to take the stage after them." However, it's just been announced that:

With their respective gear set up side-by-side, Weezer and The Flaming Lips will literally share the stage together on Thursday, July 28th in New Jersey and Friday, July 29th in New York.

"Weezer and the Flaming Lips will trade off songs back and forth for the entire length of each concert, allowing them to take turns playing a few songs each in one big exciting set." Yeasayer open each show.

Flaming Lips mastermind Wayne Coyne remarked: "The Flaming Lips and Weezer are playing a show together...where they are actually playing together."

"I asked Wayne if he has an extra bubble I could ride in," quipped Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo.

TIckets are still on sale for both of these shows.

I'm holding off buying tickets/sneaking in until they announce supersoakers full of red paint are being handed out.

Posted by Supersoaker fan | July 11, 2011 5:25 PM

I guess they need a gimmick to sell tickets.

PNC has a capacity of 7,000 in the seated area and 10,000 lawn seats. I don't know how many lawn seats are open, but using the new Live Nation pick your seat thingy I count 4,338 open tickets.

That means 62% of the venue is unsold for the night. Maybe they'll just do the right thing and move the show to Roseland.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:29 PM

yeah because its really really easy to sneak into Jones Beach or PNC....

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:29 PM

Jones Beach show is selling miserably, wonder what they're going to do to save face. This was a dumb pairing, and the shows should be at way smaller venues.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:31 PM

Actually sounds pretty cool!

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:32 PM

MOVE IT TO ROSELAND

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:32 PM

Weezer, Flaming Lips, Over, Done With, Moving On

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:32 PM

Jones beach has too many sections, I'm not going to count every one, but eyeballing it, the venue is dead empty as well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:32 PM

Thirded for Roseland.

LIVE NATION- Do the right thing, move this from the suburban sheds to Roseland and make these the best shows of the summer. Do it!

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:40 PM

this sounds awful

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:45 PM

2 different audiences.

Nobody who comes to hear "She Don't Use Jelly" is going to want to sit through "Pork & Beans"

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:46 PM

Somethings rotten in Wantagh...

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 5:47 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:06 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:07 PM

hope some wires/guitars/whatever explode and swiftly kill wayne and rivers. dudes need to get over themselves and under the ground. #RIPlease

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:07 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:08 PM

I would totally go to this if they added The Foo Fighters and Letters to Cleo

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:11 PM

weird

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:12 PM

This could make for some interesting collaborations since both band's karaoke style sets are really tired. But it will probably just end up sucking anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:14 PM

6:08 you lie the bubble didn't start til 2003!

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:28 PM

I would go if Sick of it All and CroMags were added

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:47 PM

roseland sucks too. a lot of the east coast venues suck. they should have this at Bethel Woods, where they know how to treat people with respect and its all about the fun. That place is amazing. who wants to see a concert at a corporate concrete prison?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 6:53 PM

i wouldnt even go if they added the hummus mehs, and thats sayin ALOT

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 7:27 PM

Droppin' loads all over the hummus mehs!
Wet hipsters

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 7:48 PM

Wow, got a buncha haters up in here.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 8:07 PM

wow, i can see TWO shitty bands that were popular in the nineties at THE SAME TIME?? sign me up!

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 8:09 PM

this is akin to watching a car race between an Edsel and and a Yugo.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 8:23 PM

hey !!!!!!!!! hipsters who have nothing better to do than comment on BV, and badmouth established musicians!!!!!!!

we, the general public, call you LOSERS

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 9:26 PM

MAN I CAN'T BELIEVE THESE TWO BANDS I DON'T LIKE ARE PLAYING A CONCERT I DON'T HAVE TO ATTEND. I'M SO MAD.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 9:39 PM

If youre a fan of one band and not the other, I would imagine this will be a frustrating experience. Besides, the momentum will be completely shot with them trading off after each song.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 9:40 PM

haters?!? on brooklyn vegan?!? whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 9:56 PM

"I would go if Sick of it All and CroMags were added"

and Biohazard.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 10:46 PM

Yeah, have it on the waterfront so we can toss that ball in the river and have the current take it far far away...Well to Staten Island anyway..

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 10:59 PM

i saw weezer about a month ago, they suck. i saw the Red Bull Soundclash-Wale vs. Tokyo Police Club do the back and forth thing. that was real good.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 11:25 PM

dude, we ARE the general public.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2011 11:49 PM

Remember when GBV and The Strokes played side by side with David Cross emceeing at the Apollo on New Years Eve 2001? That was pretty awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 12:10 AM

Move this show. The only thing worse than Jones Beach is a half empty Jones Beach.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 7:56 AM

The pairing is fine. It's the ticket prices that are horrible. Who would pay over $100 to see this?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 8:50 AM

..not to mention that Weezer tours way too much, and anyone who would have wanted to see them has already probably seen them 2 or 3 times in the last 2 years. Also, Flaming Lips hardly changes their show.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 8:52 AM

Yeah lawn should be $20 Pavillion $30-45 max!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 9:05 AM

$100? who do they think they are, the eagles?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 9:14 AM

Eagles are $300 these days bub! They were the first band to charge $100 back in 1994!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 9:18 AM

Nuts and gum! Together at last!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 9:40 AM

When hell freezes over, then maybe I'll pay $300 for a Weezer ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 9:46 AM

^Good one! Take it to the Limit!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 10:08 AM

Hey, ya gotta live life on the fast lane! :)

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 10:24 AM

Jones Beach has become a pain in the ass to get to. Went on Friday to Soundgarden and MTA no longer sends buses from the venue to the train station. Instead, you had clusterfuck waiting for cabs at the end of the night. Realize it is never gonna happen, but wouldn't mind having them move the venue either.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 10:37 AM

10:24 if you go it will be "One of those nights" What is $100 anyways "In the Long Run"

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 10:41 AM

No show in Boston? WTF!

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 10:46 AM

I think there was one of those party buses that went from the St. Vitus bar on BK straight to Jones Beach. Unfortunately, I didn't make it on time. Oh well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 10:55 AM

10:41: Yeah, at first I thought I'd stay home and Take it easy. Then I realized by going, I would leave the show with a Peaceful easy feeling.

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 10:57 AM

Yeah I may go then I will be "The New Kid in Town"

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 11:11 AM

Live Nation was selling $20 tix for this show at jones beach theatre this past Saturday before Soundgarden went on. But cheapest ticket on the website is $40. Lame

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2011 11:27 AM

Omg. I cant wait! I literally can not wait!

Posted by Jasmine | July 12, 2011 12:19 PM

Wow. The ppl commenting on this thread with their negative veiws really dont know what GOOD music is. I suggest you go back on you tube and watch Rebecca Black. These are two amazing bands!

Posted by Jasmine | July 12, 2011 12:24 PM

the people who comment on bv make brooklyn in general look bad but something tells me none of them live remotely close the tri state area

Posted by kevin c | July 12, 2011 1:20 PM

dan deacon no age and deerhunter did this a few years back

Posted by Mike | July 12, 2011 1:45 PM

just saw this show last night. it was awful. i want my money back. you're right, nobody who wants to hear "pork and beans" would listen to the same music put out there by flaming lips.

sooooo disappointed.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2011 9:27 AM

^What was dissapointing? Considering going tonight...

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2011 9:43 AM

pshhh 943pm. don't trust bv commenters. the show was great.

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2011 9:53 AM

yeah. We had fun last night as it was the first concert I've ever been to where we were outside with hurricane like rain and wind. Pretty crazy experience... cleared up though. The back and forth thing was a little odd though.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2011 9:59 PM

Have you ever been to a dinner party and alternated eating hummus and cheese? It's kinda like the way these bands were alternating. When enjoyed alone they are both fantastic, but when alternating the delicate hummus flavor gets overpowered by the robust flavors of cheese. Does this make sense?

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2011 11:17 PM

the show was good ,but could have been better, and no the flamming do not ,not change up their lineup , they normally play more of their pop type songs, which they didnt at the show , which i think was a bad idea, im sure if they played more songs like flight test and waiting for superman ,then the peopple who went that were total weezer fans would have complained less

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2011 6:44 PM

This show was bomb, I saw it this summer. Weezer really is a tight band, I hope to see them again this summer in Denmark.
